"View as Icon" in Mail

Hi all!
I wonder if it is possible to set attribute "View as Icon" as default for all attachments in messages in Mail?
(Sorry for my russian English)

Hello!
Your English is great.
There is no default setting for this in Mail but check Mail Attachments Iconizer.

  • Default to "view as icon" in Mail.app messages (with attachments)

    Hello,
Other than using Mail Attachments Iconizer (http://lokiware.info/Mail-Attachments-Iconizer), does anyone know of a way to default mail.app to "view as icon" when adding attachments to messages?
Working in print design, we're always sending PDFs and images and it's a little annoying when you have a large (in dimension, not bit size) attachment and it just takes over your message.
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

  • Default Mail attachments to "View As Icon"

Is there a way to default attachments to "View As Icon" instead of previewing them in Mail? Specifically MP3s, since there's no way to drag the preview player directly into iTunes. I know I can just right click to change, but I get a lot of emails with MP3s attached and need to pull them straight into playlists.
Thanks in advance for any help.

"Iconizer" or "attachment tamer" could be your answer.

  • In Mountain Lion, Mail why no "view as icon" option

I used to be able to compose a message, attach a PDF and right click to "view as icon." Now when I attach, I see a preview of the doc. When I save as a draft, the PDFs appear as icons. When a PC user receives them, will they arrive as PDF attachments icons only showing or will it show a preview of the doc in their opening window?

In Mountain Lion mail, it is still possible to switch between a preview and an icon of an attachment.
How somebody else is seeing it when he/she is receiving it it totally up to their mail app. It has nothing to do with PC or Mac or whatever system they use.
So you have basically no real chance to control what the receipient will see when looking at your mail.

  • View as Icon help

I am trying to attach a jpeg image to an email.
I attach the image and select 'View as Icon' and send it.  To the recipient, It appears as the image, however it is the size of the icon and it can not be opened.
I have attached it from the desktop and it is only 500 kb.  The other option is to attach as a full size image which works but I want to attach it as an icon.
Unfortunately I cannot get this to work.
    Frustrated
    Can anyone help me please
    Kind Regards
    Gregg

How it appears at the recipient's end will depend on their email software.
If their email software does not use html format your attachment will just be a file they will need to open, otherwise the sent image could well appear as an image in the body of the email as it does with you.
You can add the image through either the Mail toolbar Attach, or drag the image from your Desktop into the email.
For the file size, after you add it to your email, at the bottom of the window will be Image size. Choose the desired size, Actual Size would be satisfactory for something 500k big.

  • View as icon - Wheres it gone?

I use email attachments a great deal - sending documents and drawings etc. and as there are usually multiple attchments and mail defaults by inserting a preview of the attachment I often right click and select the "View as icon" button. This is really useful if sending over 5 or so documents but I noticed today that "View as icon" has disappeared from the right click menu.
Anyone know where it has gone? Is this the result of an update I haven't noticed? On a similar front is there a way of changing mail preferences so that the attachments appear as icons as a default?
Thanks for your help in this folks.
    David

    Seems to there for me:
This is in a new message. Also was there on incoming messages.
As for setting it permanently, don;t see anything in Preferences, don;t know if there is another way to do it.

  • Attachments - "view as icon"

Is there any way to make "view as icon" the default when attaching files?

    You're welcome.
I used the very first OS X Mail.app version for a short time until Office X was introduced when I began using Entourage.
I switch back to using the Mail.app exclusively when Jaguar was introduced thru Panther and now Tiger and the Mail.app has always displayed image/picture and smaller PDF attachments (1-2) pages inline or viewed in place within the body of the message.
I quickly grew to prefer this since I can confirm the correct image or picture attachment has been selected before the message is sent.
I have not experienced the same problem and I've installed all available updates.
Anything special about these attachments or does the problem occur with any and all image or picture attachments regardless?

Have you done a sampling of all users, or only those users that don't like it? While I don't mind it, I don't think I even noticed it at first until someone pointed it out.
I note that if you get Info on an item the icon is still colour so this is some OS level (we know best) overaly that's turning everything bland and boring, it would be nice if Apple let the user actually chose this rather than force it upon them ... just like Microsoft I'm sad to say.
Microsoft? The '90s are over. But regardless of what decade you are living in, Apple has never been too big on end-user customization of the operating system. Apple has always discouraged the use of "themes" whereas Microsoft will allow people to do pretty much whatever they want.
The file system icons are still the same as they have always been. The new monochrome icons are clearly a design trend more than any change to the underlying operating system. If you turn off the expanded view in any file save dialog (other than in Safari), you can still see the old, glorious, multicoloured icons. If you really wanted to, I'm sure you could change the system-level images and make Finder and Mail look just like they used to.

  • Does he eggs icon in Mail tell me I have attachments?  Can't open them.

I assume the eggs icon in Mail shows up to let me know I have attachments. Yes? No? At any rate, if that is the case, I can't open them. I click on them, I swear at them, I make them unreal promises, nothing happens. Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Eggs icon??? If you have an attachment you will see in the Preview panel you have an attachments column - if this is not showing to go View > Columns > Attachments and make sure that's ticked.

  • Attaching photos as icons in mail

Is it possible to set up mail to attach photos and pdf's as icons automatically? It is a real pain to have to convert each one individually.
    Martin

    Hello Martin.
Not without a 3rd party plugin for Mail.
You do know this has no effect whatsoever on how the attachments appear when the message is opened by the recipient?
When selecting View as Icon for an attachment that appears inline or viewed in place within the body of the message and sending it this way to a Mail.app user, the attachment will appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened by the recipient.
Unless you use HTML with embedded images or objects in the message body, the sender of a message has no control over how attachments appear when the message is opened by the recipient. This is determined by the recipient's email client.

  • Is there a way for all attachments to be 'viewed as icon' both sending and receiving?

In Mail for Mac OSX 10.9, is there a way for all attachments to be 'viewed as icon' both sending and receiving?

Not sure if this still works with Mavericks, but in Terminal try:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes

  • I can no longer view Word attachments in Mail

I have received an email containing a word document as an attachment on my iPhone 5. My wife received the same email on her iPhone 5. She can view the attachment but I cannot. We have the same version of iOS (6.1.4). Even if I keep my finger on the attachment and select Quick Look I still cannot see the document. All I can see is a grey screen with the name and type of the attachment. Can anybody let me know if there is a setting or something I need to do to view the attachment?
Also, when I view an email in Mail I get a bar at the bottom of the message that will allow me to flag the message as unread, move it to a different folder, delete it, etc. My wife does not have that bar on her iPhone. Can anybody help with that? I've gone through all of the settings and they seem to be the same on both phones.
    Thanks for your help.

The problem on my wife's phone has been fixed by simply restarting it. It hasn't worked for my problem though. Incidentally, I can view .docx and .xlsx documents but not .doc or .xls.
Has nobody else ever had this problem?

  • What happened to the attachment icon in Mail?

I just upgraded to Lion, and I noticed that there wasn't an icon for mail attachments.  I looked into preferences and no option there.  I have to go into the menu to attach a file.  What happened?  That seems to be a pretty basic function.

You're right - it's not there, but it's such a long time since I've used it, I hadn't missed it! You can either go to File > Attach file, or do what I always do which is to open the folder containing the doc(s) you want to attach and simply drag onto the body of the email. You can also select more than one doc at once by using the Shift key (or the Apple key if they are not sequential) and attach several.

  • HT201403 It would be very helpful for Apple to re-instate the view as icon option for a pdf file in an email on the right click menu? As far as I can see no easy way for a basic user to get this back?

Would be great for Apple to reinstate the pdf as icon in mail - but using the right click menu. It seems to have gone - and as a basic user there seems to be no simple solution - I used the rich/plain text swap but it didn't work...
Apple - we need you to solve!

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
It's highly doubtful that Apple will change this in Mac OS X 10.7 since that OS version has now been discontinued for quite some time. Whether they will change that in OS X 10.9 or a future version I can't say.
If this is a serious issue for you, you can look into Attachement Tamer:
    http://lokiware.info/Attachment-Tamer
It's not free, but it addresses much more than the issue of PDFs appearing as images, not icons, so it might be worth the price.
