View Audiobooks by author

I've found that with my nano audiobooks are simply listed by filename without care for which file belongs to which book or author, unlike the iphone where you go into audiobooks and then can choose and author and then a book and it will play the files in the correct sequence.
Can anyone suggest a remedy for this? As I've said it functions properly on the iphone so all my metadata would appear to be correct

So here is what I have noticed in importing book CDs of my own.
Each CD is treated by iTunes as a separate album. (IE: The Stand [Disc 1], etc).
With some audiobook CDs, the tracks are named too generically to simply change all the album names to the same name. For instance, on CD 1 the tracks are just named "Track 01, Track 02, etc". So if you change all the album names to just "The Stand", then you end up with all the tracks out of order.
Now in some cases, the makers of these things have done you a favor and have named the tracks in such a way that you can in fact put them all in the same album without getting then in the wrong order.
If this is the case, you can just shift select all the different albums, get info on them and enter one album name. Then in iTunes, you can right (or control) click and get info on the album. Then go to options, select "Media Kind" and change it to "Audiobook", then also make the selection to allow it to remember your position. Once you do this, sync it all up with your iPod, then when you go to the Audiobook menu on your Nano, it should be there and ready for you.
Okay, so I just did exactly what I described above with "The 6th Target" by James Patterson on CD and I think I am seeing what you are seeing.
Each track is listed separately, but in the correct order. I usually only have one book on the iPod at a time and never realized this. I just went to audiobook and started the book.
I am guessing that this is working as designed.

  • ITunes 8.0.1 Grid View & audiobooks

I'm experiencing weird views when using Grid View for Audiobooks. I have a lot of them (many 2 or more files per book) and only 1 or 2 are actually clustered by title. All of the others are appearing as single books. One or two actually have correctly clustered the 2 parts for the title and display as one cover with (2 items) underneath.
I've searched the forums and haven't found anything related to this. These are books by the same author with the same title, not compilations. Also, for the ones displaying "correctly," the titles are all formatted precisely the same as the ones displaying incorrectly. (Note: if I change to Artists view in Grid, it clusters all book files for that author under a single bookcover - obviously only correct for one of the books).
Anyone have a clue how to make audiobooks clsuter correctly? These are all being downloaded from Audible.com and come with the same metadata for each title.
    Thanks!

I have the same problem when I download from Audible.com. I gave them a call with no help. I suspect they are importing the audio book into itunes without sorting the download by book name somehow. If you get a response that helps pass it along. They basically said to look at it in the list view only. All the book artworks are loaded correctly but the grid view doesn't recognize the separate books.

  • Display Audiobooks by Author?

The new iPod Classic file system seems a lot more limited than the older models. I use my iPods primarily for audiobooks - the older models were able to display books by order of title or author, so that I could view all the books written by one author on one screen - this does not seem possible in the new iPod classic 160gb, where only titles can be displayed.
Am I wrong? Can I list books by author on the ipod screen?

No, you're correct. I, like you, have a crazy number of Audiobooks on my ipod. Until such time as Apple see's fit to add a wider variety of ways to sort my audiobooks on my classic, I'm leaving them with the music and out of the audiobooks section. I was so excited that I finally had the ability to move them there... until I realized that I'd have to sort through hundreds of files to find what I want.

  • How can I organise Audiobooks by Author

    Hi
I have a lot of Audiobooks on my iPod Touch.
One thing that I find a bit of a trial is the fact that the books are grouped by Title.
I would like to find a way of grouping them by Author (In order), then by title, similar to the way that they are ordered itunes.
Is there any way of achieving this?
    Cheers...
    Daz :o)

    Hi Jeff,
OK, I could look like a fool here. My 30GB ipod was, I'm sure, 5th generation. Earlier this year I changed to an 80GB one. I assumed it was also 5th gen because it looks almost exactly the same outide. But maybe it's a 'classic' instead. It looks like that on Amazon, anyway. (I may be exposing some ipod ignorance here.) I know my new ipod supports Cover Flow (which my old one didn;t.)
If my new ipod actually is a 'classic', then how would I do it?
    Cheers

  • How do I view audiobooks?

I accidentally changed a song (mp3) into an audiobook by selecting Get Info> Options> Media Kind> Audiobook. Now my song has disappeared - vanished! How can I view my audiobooks on iTunes & how can I view that song so that I can change it's Media Kind back to Music? It doesn't seem to be in the Music part of the Library & there isn't an Audiobooks part in the Library. I'm very confused, please help.

    iTunes prefs -> General.
    Under Show: tick Audibooks.

  • How can I view books by author?

I am prepared to be embarrassed that I missed something so obvious that only an idot could have missed, but can someone please tell me how I can change the listing of books in the iTunes Bookstore so that the books are listed by author? I've searched the menus and buttons, read the HELP articles, and even used Google to search the internet to discover the answer. So far I got bupkis (spelling?).
To clarify, I am referring NOT to how books are listed in my Library or on my iPod, but to how the iTunes Bookstore lists the books available for purchase. No offense to new authors, but by the time I have to read through every title in the list, my eyes cross and there's a distinct hissing sound eminating from both ears very similar to that which is produced by water boiling in a teapot. The mood for finding a new great book to read is long gone.

If you mean in iBooks, just go to the store and press the browse button on the bottom of the screen. Then, choose a author on the left.

  • How to create a form or report on a view or on a sql for update

Let's suppose to have this two tables:
    BOOKS(title, author, id_tongue)
    TONGUE(id_tongue, tongue)
where TONGUE contains (1, english), (2, french), ...
I want to create a report and a form (for inserting new books) so as to insert the right values in the two tables.
I've created a view VIEW_BOOKS(title, author, tongue) and an instead-of-trigger to update the two tables when inserting into the view itself. The problem is that with APEX it seems to me it's only possible to define a form or report on tables or on query and not on a view.
Any advice to give me? Or other solutions?
    I'm quite new on APEX
    Thanks in advance!

You are mistaken!! what version of apex are you on?
Select Form on a Table or View when creating a form using wizard

    Hello,
I am using crystal report XI with ACCESS 2003, I would like to create a field in my ACCESS table to insert the path of the PDF or word files I would like to view when I click on the report. Is there a way to do this? Whic is the best approach to view a PDF or Word document from the crytal report viewer?

Just so I get the first part correct - this is what I understand you to want to do:Add column to Access db, say something like 'FILE_LINK'Have a field on your report that displays the value of the FILE_LINK data for either PDF or DOC's. To do this:Populate the Access db as you'd like, including the file extension.Add the database field to the report.Right-click the field and 'Format Field'.Select the 'A File' radio button.Select the Hyperlink tab.Select the 'X-2' button in the 'Hyperlink Information' area of that same tabbed window.Enter a formula for what you want to be shown.  To show 'somefilename.pdf' on a shared drive, for example, enter this formula:"
x\" & {database.column}Click the 'X-2' icon with the green checkmark, near the top-left of the window.  Fix any errors reported.Click 'Save & Close' and then 'Ok' on the 'Format Editor' window.Drop/drag the field where you'd like it and you should be good to go.

  • How can I sort audobooks by author?

I just bought a new ipod touch with 64gb.
i'm used to sort my audio books in itunes 'reading' or 'radio play'.
now i must found out that ipod touch show all my audio books just after the title.
is there a way to change to different view like 'by author'?

For sure. That is a life saver for me till I get a Sort by Author option on the Right Most menu. Currently when I need to find a book by its author I click the middle selection which does not sort books by the Author but gives me the option to see all the books by each author in my Library. Thing is I can not organize me Book Rack sorted by the author. I can organize it by the Title. Or I can organize it Manually, now that is a huge job. Not worth the time it will consume.
    Many thanks for your attention.
Hoping Apple will give us "Sort by Author" option in the right-most button and the Sort option in the View menu; along with the existing Purchases, Title and Manual options.

  • Itunes 11 Book author and Album artist sort problems

(I've changed the name here, to protect the innocent and avoid comments about my taste. I shall call him 'Fred Anydude' )
I have an ebook by 'Fred Anydude'. He appears in book view under the [Authors section] in the right place i.e. with those Authors whose last name begins with 'A', (because the sort artist field has been set up as 'Anydude, Fred'.)
Then I acquire a music album, also by Fred Anydude (Hey, what can I say, he's talented). The problem is in the music view in the Artist section I expect Fred Anydude, to appear with the other artists beginning with F (as is the convention for music artist sort order), but he doesnt. He's appears with the A's again. The sort artist is blank in the case of the music album and its songs. So I set up the sort artist for the album and its tracks as Fred Anydude. I switch views, to give the opportunity for a refresh, I even restart itunes - Fred Anydude is still being sorted according to his book view sort artist despite what I've set up for his music: Still appearing with the A's
But to confuse matters, under Album view with the Album view sort order set to 'by Artist', the album does appear along with other artists beginning with F.
To make matters worse if I do a search for Fred Anydude, I only get shown the book in the results. The music doesn't even appear.
    Is there a fix?

I suppose a better way to differentiate between album artist and artist is to say Track Artist.

  • Date Parameters in 2008 Viewer

Date Parameters in the 2008 viewer (vs2005) are not working, It will not even prompt for them unless i throw another parameter in the report. And when I do put them in there it ignors them. Am I doing something wrong or is this a MAJOR bug in the viewer?

Hmmm this is not just Date parameters no Parameters will work in a record select, when added through the viewer, making the viewer Useless for running reports that require user parameters.  Do the developers even test things before they release them here

Well after working on this I discovered it is the upgrade which does not upgrade all the references.  I removed the viewer then added it and it worked...

  • Seeing author in Classic Mail layout

When I select the Classic layout in Mail, the column for Author is not seen and under View Sorting the Author column is greyed out and not available.
How do I reset this layout to a default mode so that Author is seen?

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

  • Questions on OCS and workflow

I am wondering whether I can configure the following:
    - Can I have multiple views? Example, view documents by Author, Project, Category? Can I customize document
    views?
    - Can I control access rights on a single document?
    - Can I monitor or extract a report on how often a document is accessed?
In addition, I have the following problems with OCS Workflow:
    - The Workflow has no default email notification. Documentations indicated that Email Notification has to be configured to work with SendMail. Can Email notification be configured with OCS Mail instead?
It does not make sense to use SendMail instead of OCS Mail.
    - Document can be viewed by Workspace members once it is uploaded. What is the purpose of workflow then?
    - Document has to be manually submitted for review to initiate a Workflow process. Can this be performed automatically?
    - WorkFlow approver is defined by the user. It should have predefined approvers.
    - In Workflow notification, Notification Detail provides the URL but does not have a URL link back to the document. In this case, the review process is manual because the approver does not have an easy
    way to preview the document.
Are my comments correct? Are there any workarounds?

    Roger,
    1) The default SPINCOUNT value is 0 (no spinning) for all platforms that are supported today. (At one time we had a default value of 5000 for Sequent hardware, but it has been many years since we supported that platform.) The SPINCOUNT value that will work best for any application depends on many factors, including the number of CPUs on the machine, the hardware platform, and the indvidual application. SPINCOUNT will only be useful when the machine has more than one CPU.
    2) /Q logs Q_CAT:1447 after 50 unsuccessful attempts to obtain the semaphore when the semaphore has never been released and reobtained by a different process or the same process during that period. The Access Control List code uses the same rule for logging LIBTUX_CAT:1511. If TMSPINCOUNT is set, then the number of unsuccessful attempts to obtain the semaphore is incremented by 1 only after TMSPINCOUNT spins have been done.
Code for the BB semaphore and the semaphore used by /Domain follows a different rule. This code will log LIBTUX_CAT:5005 or LIBGW_CAT:5010 if a process has to wait for the semaphore for 10 seconds and the semaphore has never been released by the original owner during this time period.
    3) TMSPINCOUNT is used for the BB semapahore, AOM semaphore, ACL semaphore, /Domain semaphore, and /Q semaphore. Locking the GTT uses the same BB semaphore that used to lock other tables in the BB.
    Regards,
    Ed
