View cache files

I was looking at a page on the web, but now it has vanished. It should be in my cache, and according to about:cache it is. But a hex dump is not really helpful. Is there a tool that will let me look at the contents of the cache as web pages?

  • CS2: Adobe Bridge Cache File on Desktop...Why?

For some unknown reason...CS2 has started placing "Adobe Bridge Cache" file shortcuts on my desktop. When I click on one, I receive a Win XP error message that says the file .bc is unkown and can't be opened.
These shortcuts have never appeared before. Now the simple act of opening Bridge and looking at jpeg files seems to initiate it.
Questions: Why is PS doing this? Do I need to pay attention to it? If not, how do I stop PS from cluttering up my desktop.
    Thanks!
    Ed

    Ed,
Yes you can. The cache facilitates the quick display of images in a folder.
When there's no cache, Bridge has to render thumbnails from every image file upon viewing a folder's contents. This can take a couple of minutes.
    Rob
    P.S.
    >I do, indeed, have image files in a folder on my desktop.
This would mean that there is a cache inside that folder, *not* on the desktop itself.

  • Is it safe to delete the cache file folder from library

is it safe to delete the cache file folder from library ?

As I understand it Robo doesn't really 'do' third-party
source control. We use SourceGear Vault, but really only as a
repository for the files. We can't really work concurrently because
Robo needs exclusive access to the top level project files. But it
kind of works for us, because we're on opposite sides of the globe.
I see what you're saying on the 'local' versions of (say) the
cpd files conflicting. If anyone else has an informed view, I'm all
ears. We've set it up this way ourselves - I don't know of anyone
doing the same. If someone tells me this is a bad idea, I'm happy
    to think again.
    Cheers!

Back up all data. Quit Preview if it's running.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following items, if they exist:
    Caches/com.apple.Preview
    Containers/com.apple.Preview
    Preferences/com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist

  • Bridge cache files for different bridge versions

Bridge with CS2 and now CS3 is a superb image browsing tool - particularly when the cache files are within the directory containing the images. It would be very very useful if new versions of bridge could read older version cache files.
If a user creates cache files in a disk directory and then backs up the directory to a DVD for archival purposes, it would be very valuable to allow the "current version" of bridge to properly read the "old version" DVD archived bridge files. This would add greatly to the browsing speed of the DVD archive - since a new cache file will not be needed (or desired).
In addition, if previous versions of the cache files are on a hard drive, the ability to process the old version files would allow bridge to work more rapidly when browsing images. Of course, there are problems if the user attempts to update information that is version specific, however I am sure there are sane solutions to the problem.
    tony

Not having to use a centralised cache was one of Bridge 1.0's strengths.
Not sure about the current versions insistence on centralising with the option of distributed as well or why the cache type as changed. A pain from an archival point of view as I used distibuted cache, which is now a waste of bytes.

  • Need to view .cashe files in Safari

I am able to find a lot of files with long path numbers (Example: 0469048316-1542506734.cache), and imagine I will have to look through quite a few to find the right one...
    but...
I don't know HOW to view the .cache files.
Can anyone help, using easy to layman's lingo... I know just enough to get myself in trouble, not a techie.

  • Problem viewing PDF File in JSP

    Hi,
I have the file location of a PDF saved in the database.
If I modify the PDF file on my directory and then try to view it in my browser, it still shows the old file .. (I do not modify the pdf file name)
However, when I close my browser and reopen it, it shows up okay. this looks like a browser level problem but can someone give me an idea on how I can solve this problem within my JSP...
Here is some code to view the file
    <a href="<%= response.encodeURL(fileLocation) %>"><%= binderName + ".pdf" %></a>
    Thanks,
    Yasir

The problem you are having is a browser cache issue. If you open the same URL, the browser is trying to save you time by giving you what it got last time. The trick is to make the URL different each time it is opened. Just append a hash or some other unique code:
    Instead of:
    http://myserver/pdfMakerServlet/newpdf.pdf
    Use this:
    http://myserver/pdfMakerServlet/newpdf.pdf&012345
If the URL is different each time, the browser will ask the server again for the file.
    Does this help?

  • Where is browser cache file for Firefox 5.0? For example, if I hear a sound on an url, how do I retrieve it or anything else that's in the cache??

Where is the browser cache file in Firefox 5.0? It's my understanding that in prior versions, one only had to type "about:cache" in the address bar to retrieve the cache file. But this doesn't work on 5.0. I want to retrieve sound files from Cornell.edu ornithology website but cannot find where the file is located. In IE6.0 one only had to go to tools > internet options > settings > view files = viola!! As for prior versions of Firefox, the plug-in CacheViewer was very helpful but is incompatible w/ Firefox 5.0. Please help!

A-OK, Xircal. Absolutely correct. I had a space where it should not have been. Problem solved. Thx bunches.

  • Can I restore cache files to full res?

I somehow deleted a folder from my system months ago that I now need. I can't find the folder anywhere in my hard drive or backup, but I can find the cache files. Is there anything I can do with those?

If I understand it correctly, if you have Bridge set to store full sized previews in cache, then it stores a JPG the full size of the image.  If you zoom in to '100%/actual pixel size' with the Bridge viewer, then you do indeed see a representation of a full res of any particular image.  But AFAIK you can only access the cache via Bridge.  You can't go in with My Documents, and pull out a single JPG.
This also presupposes that the Bridge cache keeps a copy of deleted documents.  I can just imagine the outcry on sites like this, if it was discovered that Bridge was that sloppy with cache file managment! So I suspect that you are out of luck, in that respect at least.
But you mention a back up, so the files were stored in two locations prior to being deleted?  That doubles the chance of a file recovery program finding them.  I'm guessing that you have tried the Recycle Bin, or whatever Mac systems use?

  • Safari & Firefox behaving badly when viewing pdf files

Since upgrading my Mac to Lion, Safari and Firefox have not displayed pdf files for viewing.
SAFARI:  When I click a pdf link in Safari, a dark grey blank page appears. When I try to save the pdf file to my desktop, an error message says the file is not properly formatted.
FIREFOX: When I click a pdf link in Firefox, a white blank page appears. I can successfully save the file to my desktop, and in turn open the file using Acrobat.
CHROME: Everything works normally...no problems found when viewing pdf files.
I tried dumping the plist file for both Safari and Firefox, and resetting both browsers clearing them of cache, etc., but none of that worked.
Has anyone else seen similar behavior? Anyone have a solution?
I have posted this problem twice in Apple's Safari Forum, but have had no response in almost two months.
    Thanks

In Safari you to have the Acrobat PDFviewer plugin installed, or the The PDFBrowser plugin by Schubert of Germany Installed.
If you use the PDFBrowser Plugin you need the 2.4.2 version in order to work with the version 5.1 of Safari and 2.2.3 version for Safari 5.05 and lower.
In FireFox  version 3.6.X and lower you need version of the PDFBrowser Plugin version 2.2.3 which also works with Safari 5.05 and lower. And version 2.4.2 for Safari 5.1 and above and FF 4.0 and above, and Seamonkey version 2.3 and above.
THE ADOBE PDFVIEWER PLUGIN has only worked with OSX for Safari. Adobe quit supporting any other browsers on the Macintosh with the roll out of OSX years ago except for Safari. And despite repeated request by many users, its gone on deaf ears.
As a result This Schubert fellow from Germany has had to fill the void. It works on "any" browser on the Market for Mac. And works for any browser for Windows except Internet Explorer.
The only thing it doesn't do is online forms which the Acrobat Plugin will. But since it only works with Safari its Useless. I'm not going to Crank up Safari just to fill in Forms.
Oh, you use to be able to install both plugins and would work fine. Now if both are installed neither works. Its either use the one that works on one Web Browser and allows form filling.
Or use the one that works on everything, but can't do forms. Oh Schubert on his Web site explains his is forbidden from installing support for forms.

  • Viewing FLV files offline

I am currently using Bridge CS3 to view all of my FLV files
    on my Mac.
Is there a dedicated player, or a plugin for Quicktime that
    will allow
me to view FLV files without having to open Bridge?
    Thanks.

I would NOT recommend you waste your time downloading Adobe Media Player, there are already numerous complaints about this player. It appears to let you 'download' the videos. There is a download screen in which you can see the progress of files being downloaded for 'offline' viewing and the files are stored in your application cache folder. They then show up as 'downloaded' ready for offline viewing.
However, the player MYSTERIOUSLY deletes these files later at some magical time, an hour or two hours or six.... later for some STRANGE UNEXPLAINED reason. In addition, you will not know which ones will be deleted. I had 20 episodes in m Flex course already downloaded. Of these all but two were deleted. You can prevent this, by going in the cache and copying the folder and then opeing the flv files directly.  This begs the question, why delete the files in the first place.
Despite many complaints made to adobe about this 'bug', nothing has been said, no replies received from Adobe. As a newby to Adobe development I take this a sign of the indifference this company is to a straighforward problem. What a waste of bandwidth, download quota, server time. Just LET US DOWNLOAD ONCE.
If you like, you can try using the media player but to prevent having to redownload the files a few hours later you can try to just copy the respective folder and do the annoying thing of opeining up the files.
    Thanks Adobe for ....
