"View Content As" sticking after I mouse away

Hi, I wonder if someone has had this trouble before and if they have a fix?
For some reason when I click on 'downloads', for instance, in my Dock the resulting Fan appears and then sticks and will only disappear if I click on another area of the screen. This is happening whatever setting I choose (grid,list or fan) and was wondering if its some plist file I need to trash or theres something more substantial I need to do.
Sorry to ask but after a while on a new machine when little gripes start coming in you know its time, instead of accepting them, to get them sorted out.
Id be grateful for anyones help however brief

Your signature shows you running Tiger, so if that is what you were running earlier, then yes, in Leopard it works differently. In Tiger, there was only the list view, so clicking and holding the mouse button brought up the list until you released it, like a menu item. In Leopard, since there are now multiple views, clicking and holding the button just brings up the option menu for the fan, list, or whatever until you release it, otherwise the fan, list, or whatever view stays open until you click on something. The "Open in Finder" item in Leopard would be the equivalent of single-clicking the Dock icon in Tiger.

  • Lately, firefox sticks after a mouse click unless I keep moving my mouse

    I can click an icon and watch the moving circle indicating action. It will often be stopped until I move the mouse. Stopping the mouse stops the circle and moving it starts the circle again. I am using Windows 7 32 bit and Firefox 7.0.1
    It does not happen in IE. I'm not sure how long it's been going on but just noticed the connection between the mouse and circle movements today.

    For me I had to disable the new java add on. the one that is Java Console 6.0.24

  • Sharing a story with a touch device after Embedding web viewer content

    I've been able to successfully embed my digital publishing suite application in a web page on our website.
    http://www.equipmentjournal.com/digital_issues/?wv=s%2FEquipment%2520Journal%2F35dfd60870f 64065bcf2507eacc42abd%2FEJ%2520August%252019%2520-%2520Lifting%2520Equipment_iPad%2FCover. html
    Now the problem is that when I click on the above link on an iPhone/iPad it won't work since the embedded web viewer is only supported on a desktop/laptop.  How do I get share an article with an iPad/iPhone user?
    I've read the article "Embedding web viewer content in your web page".  There are two relevant sections ("Detecting a non-supported device" and "Launching the App"), and from what I understand you have to detect that there is a non-supported device in the javascript and then launch the app or send the person to the store to get the app.   I am able to detect the non-supported app, but how do I launch the app?

    Honestly... just wait a little bit. We will in the near future have something that makes this experience better for iPad users. You should give it a try and then decide if it is worth the effort of trying to do what you mention above for iPhone.

  • Mavericks unable to view contents of AFP shares

    I have one test machine in a digital production environment I manage that first exhibited this issue when I installed Mavericks. I have since reproduced the issue on personal Mavericks systems as well as other Mavericks systems at other client locations whom I manage. The basic issue is, the Finder is pretty easily taxed to the point where it cannot display folder contents without a lag. It is consistently reproduceable at a particular client's, who has a fiber-connected RAID shared from an Intel Xserve running OS X 10.5.8., but I have seen incarnations of this basic problem on other systems, at other sites, both with other network shares/storage, as well as directly connected external drives and even on a host systems' own hard drive. In all cases, the issue only exhibits in a Mavericks Finder, and other versions of Mac OS do not have a problem. When it occurs, you see a spinner in the Finder window corner that indicates it is fetching the contents of the directory, and ostensibly, the larger the size or folder depth of the contents, the longer the wait. I first noticed the issue with OS X 10.9, and it has persisted unchanged thourhg OS X 10.9.1.
    Here's a more literal/specific description, all shares are accessed via AFP:
    It first came to my attention when we were trying to copy some files to a machine with a USB 3.0 card, we were under the gun for time and intended to copy the files from our RAID to a machine that would then be able to copy files to an external drive the fastest. Said USB card was only supported/recognized by OS 10.9. When we went to the desired file location on our RAID, booted to a Mavericks OS, a certain folder (about 7 folders deep, on a 4TB RAID, viewing several Adobe CS files, some as large as 2GB's each) appeared empty. That same folder on another machine (OS 10.6.8) displayed the contents fine. I moved our Mavericks-installed hard drive to multiple Mac Pros, each one exhibiting the porblem only when booted to 10.9. Eventually I noticed the previously mentioned spinner in the Mavericks Finder when the files seemed to be missing, everntually discovering that I could leave the window open, and the contents would display after about 10 minutes.
    I have researched and tried the following (a general Google/Bing search on "Slow Mavericks Finder" will reiterate these same suggestions), all have not helped the issue for any machine in my reach:
    • Running these line commands:
    sudo vi /etc/auto_master
    In this file comment out /net with #  (#/net .....)
    sudo automount -vc
    • Disabling/enabling scrollbar display
    • Removing all "Tags" from the sidebar
    On thing tried that did work, was booting the Mavericks system in Safe Mode, which is not usable for all the other things it disables, but it displays the same problem shares/files fine when booted in this mode.
    My personal suspicion is that whatever was changed in the Finder in order to facilitate/support the new tagging system, lies at the root of these woes, but so far I have found no way to completely disable the tagging feature. I can only remove Tags from the Finder sidebar via Finder > Preferences, but the issue remains either way.
    Can anyone advise?

    I believe the quote means it disables file sharing as a host
    No, that's not what it means, but taking what you say at face value, the article may be out of date.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running a program at the suggestion of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
    Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait about a minute. Then paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only run the test in safe mode, do that.
    If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
    The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for your password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator rights.
    The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. There is no indication of progress until it's done. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear in the Terminal window.
    You can then quit Terminal. The results of the test will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. All you have to do is paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V again. Please don't copy anything from the Terminal window.
    If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." That's because the forum software falsely identifies something in the post as a violation of the terms of use. If that happens, please post the results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • Unable to view Content in Design View

    Hello Everyone,
    This is my 1st time creating a manual using Robohelp version

    "DHTML" feature in the Design View. I'm able to see perfectly fine
    (all content) when in the preview mode. I noticed this issue after
    I closed out and open the project. Are you experiencing this
    problem at all? Please let me know what's the best way to fix this
    issue.
    Thank in advance for your help.

    Hi Amarelv.

  • I have a "not authorized to view content" on my Apple TV.

    I have an Apple TV (1st Gen).  All software is up-to-date.  Last spring there was an issue where the Apple TV would not talk to iTunes.  After a week or so, Apple fixed the issue.  I was able to access and view all my movies on my iMac and I synced my Apple TV.  When I went on Apple TV I was able to watch all my movies except one, Les Miserable.  When I purchased the HD version a few months prior, I was able to watch the movie several times with no issues.  When I try to watch "Les Miserable" on Apple TV now, I get a message that says: "not authorized to view content."  I'm not sure if it's a hardware issue or an iTunes issue.

    What is the difference between HBO GO® and HBO NOW℠?
    HBO GO is HBO's online streaming service, that will remain available at no additional cost to HBO subscribers through their participating television provider.
    HBO NOW is a new, standalone online streaming service that is available to all customers with a high-speed internet connection. HBO NOW℠ subscription prices may vary by participating partners.

    I am not exactly sure what you mean by "authorised", but I am experiencing a similar problem...or the same, in that Apple TV keeps telling me to enable home sharing in my MacBook Pro. It does not seem to recognize that home sharing is already enabled on my Laptop.
    Is home sharing and "authorised" one in the same? It used to work just fine before these recent Apple TV updates.

  • Cannot view content grabber in Illustrator CC

    Hi all,
    I'm very new to Illustrator and finding the learning curve to be quite steep. Two questions - First, is there a kind of "getting started guide" with a brief explanation of the very basics and all features? The little random tutorials they show upon opening the program are helpful, but totally random and I can't find a list of contents even, to go through. I find I'm looking things up one thing at a time, issue by issue. That can't be the best way to learn the basics for a home user.. can it?
    Major question right now as I'm using it.. I'm finding that I often cannot see the content grabber on images that I open (from iPhoto, for example) in Illustrator CC. I'd like to see that brown frame to quickly crop the image but the content grabber never shows up so I can't do that. The only "solution" I've seen is to go to View>Extras>View content grabber. But in this version, there is no "extras" in my view menu.
    I feel like this is so incredibly basic but I'm learning as I go and totally lacking in resources here.
    Thanks in advance.

    Web Dynpro by default does not provide the option of printing the view content.
    However still you have a round about way of doing it. Create the an html page similar to the Web Dynpro page. Store the code into a String variable.
    String html="<html> ....<scripts>window.print()</scripts></html>";
    bytes[] source=html.getBytes();
    try{
    byte[] b=new byte[1];
    IWDCachedWebResource res=WDWebResource.getWebResource(b,WDWebResourceType.HTML);
    String url=res.getURL();
    }catch (WDURLException e) {
              // TODO: handle exception
    Now open the url in a new window and that would print the content of the html page.

    "view content preview in thumbnails" option is not available in view settings for "finder" for one user

    I hope this discussion can be revived. I have the same problem. There seem to be quite a few Japanese sites that don't bother specifying their encoding. Perhaps they are older and from a time when it was not necessary to adhere to standards. Examples: http://www1.plala.or.jp/CUE/cave_yozawa.html, http://chigaku.web.fc2.com/saitama/sanchi/youzawa/youzawa.html. Happy to upload screenshots, but how?
    Is there a way to tell Safari what encoding to use if the web page fails to do that?

    Hi. Whenever I go through one of the menus in firefox, the links remain highlighted after my mouse passes over them. Is there a bug fix for this or is there something wrong with my computer? I am running windows 7 if that helps. This problem started ever since I upgraded to version 5.

    I have downloaded and used the iPod Reset Utility, alot that did. My current state is iTunes on my XP Home with SP3 sees the iPod. When I drag a song to the iPod, the Sync message appears for about 5 minutes, then the Apple symbol appears. But no song has been transferred to the iPod.
    I tried to tap into the XP iTunes database from my iBook, but although it acted like it would add the XP library to the iBook library, it did not. I've got 19 Gs of songs on the XP. If I have to load each song from its original CD to get it on my iBook I'm going to start looking for some other app or device so that I can listen to my music.
    It is a shame, in the old days, Apple techs use to look at what was going on, now it appears they don't, so they never know they have problems until Apple's profits fall.
