  • Can't View DNG files in Elements 9 Edit Browser

I have Elements 9. I can view DNG files in the Organizer file browser, but not in the Edit file browser. When in Editor, I have to click on the file (or hold my curser over it) to see the file. Is this normal?

Thanks...if it is a Win7 window, then that makes sense. In my mind though, a DNG-compatible Adobe window would have been more user-friendly.

  • Thumbnails missing from DNG files in Finder

I have been converting Canon CR2 files to DNG files for archiving using Adobe DNG Converter 8.1. Conversion completed without issue and the files located in the appropriate folder on an external hard drive. Checking the folder I found the DNG files showing with no thumbnails and showing Dimensions 0x0 in Finder window. The last time I used DNG Converter was some 18 months ago and the conversions on CR2 files from the same camera converted to DNG files with thumbnails and Dimensions showing. The source CR2 files show correctly in Finder.
There have been updates to OS X 10.8, also to Adobe Camera RAW and Adobe DNG Converter since I last did such archiving. I have searched on Adobe website but have found no reference to this issue and googling has not helped. Has anyone had a similar experience and possibly found the answer?

Same here. Latest updates to Adobe Camera Raw, Lightroom, OSX 10.9. I could view .DNGs no problem before Mavericks. I can preview Canon Raw files no problem in the finder or with quick look. Not with Mavericks. And the file sizes are listed as 0x0, which is really reassuring.
My guess is botched Apple Mavericks programming. Or yet another Apple/Adobe spat where the software team managers' haven't had their diapers changed in a bit and are squabbling over whose toys are whose.
And, the end users get jacked. Again.

  • Problem diplaying dng files converted in Lightroom

When I import my RAW files into Lightroom, I convert them to .dng files.  They display just fine in Lightroom.  However, when I try to open them in Irfanview or Thumbsplus, the image is broken up into broad hoizontal bands with some of the image missing betweeen the bands.  I suspect that this is a windows problem since it happens with two different windows applications. Here is an example.
Anybody have an idea where this error comes from?

Thanks  for your help. I did  some searching on the ifanview forums.  According to somone there,  this problem can be avoided by disableing  "fast load embedding" when importing RAW files.  I have not been able to confirm this as I have not yet figured out how to import them without "fast load embedding".  However, it seems like a nice feature that I don't want to disable.  I guess, for now, I will just import my RAW files and not convert to .dng.

  • Dng files modified with lightroom 4 that are exported do not open in cs4 with the modifications

When I modify and export dng files in lightroom these modifications do not show up in cs4 when I open the exported file.    They do if I export the file in jpg format.

Jim, I appreciate the feedback.   I believe the issue is as you stated- I need an update to the camera raw in cs4 in order to view the changes.   Unfortunately, I do not think is possible since adobe has decided not to support cs4 anymore.   My choices as far as I can tell are  1) read the lightroom file out as jpg which has the changes, 2) update to cs6 which probably has the correct camera raw version, or 3) do this cloud thing with adobe which is what they want you to do.    I like to print my photos in large format, 17X22 etc, and since my set up prints out nicely from cs4, and pretty much looks terrible from lightroom, I probably will just read out the jpg files and print them in cs4.   The reason I use lightroom is that it seems to correct highlights and such much more effectively than cs4.    Any thoughts would be welcomed.    mike

  • View original Files in Finder

    Hello,
I just updated from iPhoto 5 to iPhoto 6 and I have a little problem:
when I right-click on a thumbnail (Ctrl+click) of my library, the option "View original in the Finder" appear in grey ... so I have to go myself in the Finder to retreive the original file...
    Can somebody help me?
    Tks,
    Lins

The Show Original File is grey because the image has not been modified. In this case the menu option is Show File. Once you edit an image then the Show Original File becomes availble.

  • Viewing iPhoto files in finder

I haven't been able to look at my iPhoto picture files through finder or adobe bridge ever since I got Leopard. It shows the iPhoto icon but there are no extensions from that and clicking on it only opens iPhoto, which is no help because I want to open the files with Photoshop to edit them. This was never a problem with Tiger..any ideas?

Your photos are in a package - the iPhoto library in the Pictures folder
To edit in Photoshop the best option is to set photoshop as the editor in the iPhoto preferences (iPhoto menu ==> preferences ==> edit photos n application and navigate to photoshop
Then just save from photoshop and iPhoto will maintain its database integrity

  • Lossless compression of dng files like in Lightroom?

Lightroom losslessly compresses DNG files to half their size, which is wonderful. Is there any way to get Aperture to do this?

I remember seeing a plug-in to call the DNG converter from Aperture, but I think it never leaved the beta phase.
Anyway, using Adobe's converter is no big deal, and it's free.

  • I recently lost the capability to "view" the "File, Edit, History bookmarks, tools & help" bar from the top of my screen, as well as the "Start" button on the bottom of the screen.

How do I get the "File, Edit, History, Bookmarks, Tools & Help Bar to appear on my browser. I also need my "Previous Page & Next Page" arrow... and my "Start" button to appear at the bottom of my screen. I can't navigate without these.

Be sure you are not in Full Screen Mode. The F11 key will toggle Full Screen Mode on or off. If you have no Firefox toolbars, tab bar, etc., you are probably in Full Screen Mode; your Windows Taskbar (with the "Start" button) will also not be visible.
    *See --> http://kb.mozillazine.org/Netbooks#Full_screen
You can choose to use the Menu Bar (''File, Edit, History bookmarks, tools & help'') or the Firefox button menu in Firefox 4 and newer versions.
    *See --> https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/common-questions-after-upgrading-firefox-36
The Back/Forward button (''Previous Page & Next Page" arrow'') are on the Navigation Toolbar; be sure the Navigation Toolbar is checked (to be displayed)
    *See --> https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Back%20and%20forward%20or%20other%20toolbar%20items%20are%20missing
Windows Start button and Windows Taskbar:
*Be sure that "Auto-hide the taskbar" is '''''not checked''''' (if checked, moving the cursor pointer to the bottom of your monitor screen will cause it to slide up; it will disappear again when the cursor pointer is moved up from the bottom
*It is best to '''check''' "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows" so that application windows like Firefox cannot cover it.

  • Lacie hard drive, how do I view the files in Finder so I can delete some backups made by TimeMachine?

I have a 500GB La Cie external hard drive which Time Machine says is now too full to make way for the next backup.
I thought it would automatically delete the earliest backup to make way for the new but apparently not.
Can I look at the files in Finder and delete previous backups manually as I can't see how else to do it except buy another hard drive?
I have a Macbook pro new using Lion.

Time machine should do that automatically.  Nevertheless, read this article:
    http://pondini.org/TM/12.html
If all else fails you might consider erasing your external drive and reinstalling Time machine.  That though eliminates all history that you have on Time Machine.
    Ciao.

  • Lacie hard drive, how do I view the files in Finder so I can delete some backups?

My LaCie hard drive is full so I need to delete some backups but although the disk is mounted in Finder I cannot see the backup files to delete any. How do I do this please?

Buy another backup drive. Keep this as is. depends on what and how you do backups. TimeMachine? there are program utilities to help manage but it is 'suppose' to manage itself (have 3.5x capacity of data you backup helps). You didn't say what type of backup method was used.

  • Viewing system files in finder

Is there a change I can make to enable finder to view /var /etc and other system directories?
    Thanks.
    -- James

I would strongly advise against killing the "Finder" - file transfers might be interrupted, or more unpredictably, data loss eg. in the form of "Comments" can occur. Avoid "Force Quit", "Relaunch" or any sort of 'kill' / 'killall' if possible.
Instead, quit it nicely, eg. using "Activity Monitor.app" (use "Quit", not "Force Quit"). There are other ways, such as AppleScript, or enabling the "Quit" menu in "Finder". That way, "Finder" will wait until it is finished doing something before quitting, and allow it to save any unsaved changes as well.

  • Lightroom 5 can't write metadata to DNG files

I have converted a large number of Canon and Nikon raw files to DNG using Adobe DNG Converter (version 8.2.0.94).
Using Lightroom 5.2 I wanted to change metadata in these master DNG files.  I import the files into a catalog, select all, modify the metadata, then invoke the Metadata->Save Metadata to Files...  For many (but not all) of the files I get the following message:
"Could not write metadata.  Unknown file formats."
The DNG files reside on a Synology NAS server.  If I copy them to a local disk I do not get the above error.  But I would like to make metadata changes to the files on the NAS.
I do not have problems importing or viewing DNG files from the NAS.  Why does LR 5 have problems writing DNG metadata to the NAS?  How can I fix this?

    Thanks for replying.
The problem is definitely not one of permissions. I am accessing the NAS from an admin account with full permissions to read/write the files and directories.
I'm inclined to believe it's the second cause you propose -- network protocol causing data corruption.
It seems to be specific to writing metadata to large files such as DNG or TIFF.  I don't get errors writing to JPEG.  And it is inconsistent -- sometimes retrying fixes it.  And, oddly, sometimes I even get the error "photos have read-only access" when it's clear the permissions are OK.
On the other hand I have had no problems copying thousands of DNGs to/from the NAS -- no errors and no corruption.  So the issue seems to be an interaction between the NAS and LR when LR is updating the metadata on an existing file and the file is large.

  • How to view vsd files on MAC

I am trying to open a vsd file on MAC but its not working. I cannot find a safari plugin to view the file too.

Since VSD is the format type for Visio, I doubt that there is a Safari plugin to open them.

  • Can't view new files just saved on a shared drive/server

I have just created a file in Illustrator and saved it in a folder on a network drive.
I then try to view that file in finder and I cannot see it.  I know it is there because I can view the contents of this network drive from a PC and it's there.  I connect to the network drive as a Guest and I've tried connecting as Clair Richardson.  When I connect as Guest I can see all files except the ones I just saved, when I connect as Clair Richardson the entire contents of the folder are not visible.
    Can anyone help me?
I just clicked on the network drive in question and it said I was connected as clairr and I can now see the files I just created!  Can anyone tell me what is going on?

    Hi,
Windows Media Player and Flip4Mac are both PowerPC only at the moment, so yes you'll have to use Rosetta for the time being.
Windows Media Player never will be available for the Mac Intel platform (Microsoft no longer develop it) but Flip4Mac are working on porting their plugin 'sometime soon'.
