View files on AFP fileserver fom the iPhone

I was just wondering if this is possible? If I try to search for an answer I just get results to browse files on your phone with AFP, but I have a user that wish to connect with VPN to browse files on the Mac OSX 10.4 fileserver (using afp or if possible another protocol)...

You might want to take a look at NetPortal.

  • How do i view my itunes videos offline on the iPhone 4s?

OK, i got some videos on my computer that are converted to .mp4. I put these videos into iTunes and connected my iPhone 4s. Then i dragged the videos over to my iPhone in the iTunes list and the videos ended up under Movies / Video in my iPhone in that list. When my iPhone is connected to my PC i can view all of these videos without any problems but when i disconnect the iPhone from the computer i cant play the videos any more. It just gives me the following message:
"You are not authorized to open this file"
and it sends me back to the start page of the "Videos" app in my iPhone. I get the feeling the videos aren´t actually synced to my iPhone, theyre just "synced" as long as the iPhone is connected to the PC. All my music and audio gets synced without any problems...
Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

How very strange... 10 minutes after i posted this the videos started working in my iPhone. Maybe the soul of Steve Jobs made my wish come true.
Anyhow, i would still appreciate an answer for my question in case this happens again!

  • App or podcast downloaded to iphone is deleted from iphone and transferred to iTunes 11.  How can I keep the file from being deleted from the iPhone?

I recently updated iTunes from version 10.x to 11.  In version 10, I could download a podcast or an app to my iPhone from the app store, then the app or podcast would co COPIED to iTunes during a sync.  Now with version 11, when I sync, the app or podcast is deleted from my iPhone and MOVED to iTunes.  How can I get back the old feature of making a copy?  This is a very dumb thing that happens in iTunes and I can not believe that I am the only one to complain abou this.  Please help me.  What do I need to change in iTunes to keep my copy on the iPhone.
Thanks to all you geniouses out there!
    Doug

Not 100% sure of your question.  If you are wanting to delete apps from itunes just right click then delete then empty recycle bin.

  • How to view my own iCloud photos on the iPhone

I have taken lots of photos (and videos) directly from my iPhone (6.0 with 8.1.1) and now I am unable to see them. They all exist in both iPhoto on my mac and iCloud Photos - I can see them and play the videos.
On my iPhone it shows a placement of my photo and then when i click on the photo itself, it show an icon at the lower right that resembles a download button. However it never goes past the 25% mark.....even after several hours.
I have 2 screen shots attached. Does any one have any suggestions on how to remedy this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Melissa

    Greetings anandhi108,
After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error with the Photos app on your iPhone. You may want to consider restarting the device first, and then resetting if that does not work. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities,

  • When syncing my iphone4, some downloaded songs from iTunes cannot be removed. Not all but a few.  They do not even show in the general music library at all but will not go away fom the iPhone. I even deleted the playlist it was syncing from and those few.

When I sync my iphone4 to my pc some iTunes music downloaded direct to the phone cannot be removed. They do not show in the music library or any playlist and they do not show on the pc even if you use a search by name. Any help is appreciated

Just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions.

  • Problem Playing MP4 Converted for iPhone via my iWeb on the iPhone

Hi, I converted a video file in iTunes specifically for the iPhone (MP4). Then I uploaded it to my iWeb site and tried to view it on my iPhone via a WiFi connection. At first I got the QuickTime window and then it turned to a play button with a slash through it and nothing more happened. It's a 3MB file formatted for the iPhone being accessed from an Apple server. It otherwise plays fine in iTunes and when synched to the iPhone from the iPod. Why won't it play?

    Restart the phone

  • Cannot view files in Time Machine

I have my time machine backup on Time Capsule. I cannot view files while I am in the interface of time machine. Some files can be viewed with quick look such as photos and some eps or .ai files. Indesign documents will not view, address book will not view and many others. I did a series of tests and the files will restore just fine, but you cannot view them in the time machine mode. Very frustrating!! Is there a setting that I am missing?

It would be nice to be able to go back in timemachine to a document that you had 6 months ago and ressurect it.
You can do that easily.  If you can't view it via QuickLook, restore it to an alternate location, such as your desktop.  See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #16.
I have been able to view documents in Time machine before.
Yes, some types of documents have always been viewable in TM backups.  TextEdit, Pages, Numbers, Preview, and no doubt others.  But some others aren't, and haven't been.
If bridge can view indesign documents, then Apple sure has the capability to add that as a feature to time machine.
Doubtful they'll do that for a 3rd-party app, but ask here:  http://www.apple.com/feedback/timemachine.html
In 30+ years of design, I have only a handful of times forgot to save my work as I go.
Neither have I, but (a) it only takes once, and (b) most users don't.  (Actually, most users don't even back up ).
Time Machine is not likely to change much in the forseeable future.  If it doesn't meet your needs, there are lots of other backup apps around.

  • Downloaded music from itunes on the iphone

recently i downloaded music from itunes strait to my iphone via wi-fi and i am having trouble figuring out how to get that music on the computer without having to re purchase it can someone help me please

If you automatically sync your music then any music purchased on the iPhone will automatically be loaded onto your computer. If you manually manage music then you need to choose Transfer Purchases from iPod/iPhone from iTunes' File menu while you have the iPhone connected to your computer.

  • Is there any way I can view / remove pictures from Camera Roll on the iPhone, on a Mac, without actually importing the files?

Is there any way I can view / remove pictures from Camera Roll on the iPhone, on a Mac, without actually importing the files? I just want to view / delete files without importing them.
For instance I have 1200 photos on my iPhone Camera Roll. Some of these are shots, that I've taken multiple times, some good, some bad. I just want to clean up my Camera Roll, but going through the pictures on the iPhone's small screen is tedious. I'd much rather look at the camera roll's photo's on my Mac, and then decide which files I'd like to keep, and which to delete.
I don't want to import the files, as when I import the files, and delete them from Camera Roll, now the Photo's are not on my phone, and the only way to get them back on my Phone is to Import them back in using iTunes, and then they go into the Picture Library and not the Camera Roll.
In the same way as I can view Pics from my digital camera's SD card on a Mac without having to actually copy them to my computer, is there any app out there that will let me view my iPhone pics without importing them.

    The short answer is yes.
Connect your iPhone to your computer.
    Open Image Capture application.
Click on the 4 little squares at bottom to view them as photos, not a list.
Select the photos them click the No Entry icon at bottom to delete.

  • After upgrading to ios6 my iphone will not open .xls files in emails with the default viewer. Is there a fix for this? The same emailed .xls files still open on my ipad using ios5 while viewing email like they did on my iphone prior to upgrading.

After upgrading to ios6 my iphone will not open .xls files in emails with the default viewer. Is there a fix for this? The same emailed .xls files still open on my ipad using ios5 while viewing email like they did on my iphone prior to upgrading. I have no special software like numbers or anything else installed on either device. Just using the default viewer provided by apple for viewing email.

The attachment is an .xls excel 97-2003 spreadsheet. I viewed the file in the email and did not edit it with any software. I can forward the file to anyone that is may want to check it out to see if they can help me. I was wondering if there was some way of forcing another ios6 install on my phone and maybe that would solve it.
Is there anyone out there that is viewing .xls files in email using ios6 w/o any other software installed like numbers or any other add ons? I am not upgrading my ipad from ios5 to ios6 so I can still continue to view the emails on my ipad. Is there an email viewer .xls plug-in that will be availablle in the next ios6 update?

  • Since upgrading to IOS 5 on iPhone 4, my Windows XP files directory will not view photos on the iPhone.

Has this feature been removed or is there a setting I need to make for the xp file system to see the iPhone when connected via USB port?

I updated my unlocked iPhone 4 to iOS5.
My iPhone 4 was factory unlocked, so arrived unlocked, and has always been.
There was no issues with the update.
My iPhone 4 is still unlocked.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to view a 'permanent doc' on the iPhone

I have a subway map in .pdf format, zip code map .pdf again, and Word docs that I continually refer to. These docs dont need editing but are purely referential. Current solutions are not working well:
    a. email them to myself - but then they get lost in a stream of constant email
    b. manually type the document detail in the "Notes" app. What an underdone app that one is. Cant cut and paste, doesnt support graphics, blah blah.
    c. Save as a pic file. This didnt work as well as I hoped, as the resolution of large .pdf file gets lost. In any case, I dont want to have to view business files as pics. Better as .pdfs that I can get to without searching very much.
I love my iPhone - please dont get me wrong - its a dandy handy little bugger. Anyone with a sugg out there in userland ?

This little app called Filemark Maker works great.
    http://www.insanelygreattees.com/news/?p=51
In fact, as you can see from their web page, they use a pdf of the NY subway map as the example of how the app works.
The app is NOT a hack. It does not alter the iPhone's file structure. Rather, it stores files completely in the url field of a Safari bookmark, which allows you to access the file at any time, even when you're not online (useful for when you're in an underground subway station). To delete the file, just delete the bookmark.

  • In itunes music the file size is less and in the iPhone it occupies en extra 1gb of space

in itunes music library the file size is 2.02 GB. But after i transfer those song to iPhone the file size in iPhone is shown as 3.3 GB

Where are you getting the file size of your music lib?  Are you looking at a playlist view by chance?  The iPhone size in likely including things like videos and album content that takes more space.

  • Which version of Adobe Acrobat is needed to read .pdf files on the iPhone?

I have Blackbaud's iBBDemo4.exe iPhone simulator for Windows XP. I'm trying to view/read various .pdf files with it. I received an error message that says, "file uses a new format that is not supported by the current version of Acrobat." Does anyone know which Acrobat version is needed for .pdf files on the iPhone and/or iPhone simualtor?

The iPhone has it's own built in PDF reader, and doesn't need Adobe Reader. So if your simulator software isn't working then I suggest you contact Blackbaud's support. Besides, Adobe doesn't make an iPhone version of Reader.
