View front panel by going to a registered domain name

Hi all,
I have a registered domain name, say,  www.frontpanel.com
By configuring a router, I can now view a running LabVIEW front panel within campus by going to 128.200.xxx.xxx/frontpanel.html, my questoin is, how can I view the frontpanel from outside of our campus. Say, I have a registered domain name as shown above.
The LabVIEW is version 2012, and the system is Windows 7.
Thanks for any help,
-Chen

This has nothing to do with LabVIEW but...
You need the network to be configured to allow external requests to the PC and to set up the domain name to point to the external IP address of the computer.
If it were a home network, you'd configure your router/modem to forward requests on the ports required (port forwarding port 80 for the frontpanel.html and any ports that Remote Front Panels needs) from the internet to the PC that is running the Remote Front Panel VI.
For the domain name to work, you need to configure it's DNS settings to point to the external IP address as above. If it's a static IP address then that's pretty easy to just put in the IP address but if it's dynamic then you need to use a dynamic DNS service (e.g. dyndns).
If you're on a Campus network, you'd have to go through / talk to their IT department and I'd be very surprised if they allowed that to happen.

  • Switching from Muse Business Catalyst site to register domain name.

My domain name is registered through web.com
I recently created my site through Muse and previewed it using Business Catalyst. I would like to fully publish it using Adobe as my hosting and the registered domain name I purchased through web.com
How do I do this? Where do I find the DNS info they are asking for?

    Hi
    try
    http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/using/change-site-domain.html
it shows the domain names in Step 2 point 3. I recently went through the same process and my site started working within 5 mins. I might have been lucky!

I have a mobleme account and an existing iweb website. I would like to create a second website with a registered domain name. How do I do this?

All you need to do is create your second site in iWeb, move it to the top of lhe list of sites in the left hand pane and publish to your MobileMe account. You must make sure the second site has a different name from the first.
Then setup domain name forwarding to the second site following Apple's instructions here: iWeb: Using your own domain name. You will need to setup forwarding at your domain name provider also.
The key is that the second site (with the domain name) must the top top size in iWeb.
Note:  with MobileMe scheduled to be discontinued on June 30, 2012, you might begin looking into obtaining another host.  When you do you'll find that both sites will need to have a domain name.
When the time comes take a look at HostExcellence.com.  I've had excellent results with it. They have a couple of packages that offer free domain names.  And most important they have outstanding 24/7, ear-to-ear customer support.

  • View front panel tabs online

I am experimenting with viewing a front panel online.  I have 5
tabs on the front panel.  Is there a way to change the tabs on the
front panel remotely, without being able to control the VI?

    Hello Brad,
You have to request control over the VI in order to be able to click on any parts of the program. Once you are done you can give the control back to the server.

  • View Front panel runing on RT target

    Hi,
I developped an application on SBRIO, and it works fine on developpment : when I launch the main VI, it is loaded on RT target.
Now I want to find the best way to run my application on any PC (just with Labview Run Time Engine).
I found this link : http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/F8E716543334806286256BC9007CF3EB, and if I well understood, I could run an .exe on a desktop pc, and this would deploy the application on my RT target.
The problem is that I didn't found the option  "on the Application Settings tab when running the Application Builder."
    Any idea ?
    Best Regards,

When you made the rtexe, you opened a window where you selected the RT vi etc to build the EXE. right?
In this window, as attached in the picture, you have the 'Source File Settings' page. You can see the 'Customize VI Settings' button in this page, when you select the Main VI.
Click this button and then you can set the VI settings.
Try this and let me know.
    One more question:
    ramses64 wrote:

So when I start the application on RT host, the host can't open any front panel, isn't it ?
what are you doing with the RT Main VI Front panel? Where is your GUI? Is it on the RT or on the PC?

  • Register domain name question ---

    Hello all,
I'm looking to use iweb and setup a website for a friend of mine's business using my .mac account.
In the past --- I had my own web site, I paid an ISP so they would have my site on their server, and I also paid to register my host name - this way the name belonged to me/nobody can use it.
I want to do the same for my friends website ---- I would like to register a name which is her business name, then publish the site on Apple thru .mac.
Do you fee thats a good idea ----- pay the registration fee this way the name is hers ? and if I register a name - it can be used on Apple's site right ?
Just wondering the best way to use my friends business name as her URL, and I thought it would be good to register the name so nobody else can possible take it ?
Anybody have any names of companies to register your host/url name ?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    if I
register a name - it can be used on Apple's site
    right ?
No. On Apple's site you only use their urls: web.mac.com or homepage.mac.com
If you want to use another name, either you have to forward it to your .mac url or host the site elsewhere.

  • Going straight to my Domain Name

Not sure if I posted the right title.. Anyway, why is it that my welcome page does not go straight to the domain name? let's say my domain name is example.com, my welcome page goes to http://www.example.com/Site/Welcome.html. If I type in just example.com then I go to the godaddy site that informs people that the webpage is parked free.
How do I make my Welcome Page just my domain name?

unfortunately there may not be a way to get rid of the Sites bit using CNAME. if you want to get rid of that then you need to use forwarding and have it go to www.example.com/Sites/, if possible set it up as *.example.com/Sites so it hits both styles.
if you don't care about the Sites part showing up then try changing the CNAME at Godaddy to *.example.com or adding a second line as such. that should cure the issue of one going to mobileme and the other to a parking page

  • "The VI's front panel may have been removed."

I was running my program in the development environment and had a sudden exit from labview (w/o a microsoft crash dialog).
So I start labview, file recovery comes up so I recover all and then save all (don't remember if it involved the file in question).
Now a subVI is throwing this error every time I try to open it:
Everything seems to be working and no broken run arrows, etc., but I can't get it open and I need to.  Anyone know how to recover from this?

bah! I meant to post this in LabVIEW.  Can someone move it?

  • Problems linking to registered domain

I have used the Associate Domain Form to link our registered domain name: "www.totneseuropeanschool.com" (registered with Go Daddy) to the Business Catalyst Site.
However, typing in the URL www.totneseutopeanschool.com does not bring up our the website.  What have I done wrong?
Do I  also need to change the DNS on Go Daddy ?
Isuspect this is straightforward to anyone woo uses DNS regularly, but as a first-timer it is daunting!

I am going to assume there was a typo in your link and the t was suppose to be an r? As you can see you havn't changed the DNS servers.
You need to change the Name Servers to

  • Using a registered domain instead of .Mac standard URL

Is it possible to use a registered domain name that I own (the name of my business) instead of the standard .Mac string URL?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Welcome to the discussions, Firestorm.
If the company that has your domain does forwarding, you can have them forward your domain to your. Mac site. That's how I did http://www.makentosh.com.
Also, if you want to use the .Mac counters, you have to use normal forwarding and not stealth forwarding.

  • View Cluster Control/Indicator as Icon on Front Panel (sub VI's)

I make a lot of use of clusters to pass data into and out of sub vi's.  I keep everything typedef'd and the clusters can often grow to be rather large on the front panel which makes navigating the front panel quite difficult.  I usually have maybe 2 or 3 other controls and indicators that are not within the cluster.
Is it possible to view the cluster as an icon in a similar way to the block diagram?

    Hello DNichols,
I recommend placing the cluster(s) in question partway off-screen, with the label displayed.  If you really need to minimize the footprint of the cluster front panel object, set AutoSizing to "None" via the right-click menu and resize as needed, but keep in mind that the FP object is now more-or-less useless to future developers except for ease of clicking to link to the connector pane.  Since you're type-defining everything, accessing or viewing the contents of the cluster might not matter much, though.
Redefining your architecture is probably not a priority right now, but you might also want to consider using classes in the future, as others have suggested.

  • Front Panel Views in Network Assistant are Incorrect

Hi, I am having problems with the network assistant not showing the front panel view's correctly when connecting to our stack of 3850's. As can be seen in the attached image of 3 switches they show that identical ports are enabled on each one.  Switch number 3 should actually be all grey as no devices are connected to this new member.  The Network Assistant Version is 6.1,  Is there a way of fixing this?
    Thanks
    Phil

    Hi Miguel,
It is possible to programmatically set or change the position of front panel objects. (for example: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/4D0DA06B43195B3F862572F3000AF2D3?OpenDocument) However, if you haven’t intentionally done that, it seems unlikely that it is the problem.
Have you tried copying the entire block diagram in to a new VI to see if the problem persists? While it is unlikely, you are right that it is possible for VIs to become corrupted. I’ve never heard of a situation like this except in the situation where the settings Tom had you check have been changed. Here is some information about those settings:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/7567EF257B9CFDF986256F630073228F?OpenDocument
Since there was no rearrangement when you copied the front panel to a new VI, you might try copying the block diagram a little bit at a time to see if there is some particular part of it that creates the problem somehow.

  • Why does my Web Publishing Tool fail to create an image of my front panel when I select the "Embedded" viewing mode?

I am trying to create an html file for access by a client computer through the LabVIEW Web Server. I want to enable the client to control the vi, so am chosing "Embedded" for the Viewing Option in the Web Publishing Tool. The small preview screen in the Web Publishing Tool shows an image of my front panel, but the resulting html file does not include this image. The Web Server error log shows a 404 error which I believe is due to the lack of an image (or any front panel objects) present in the html file: Error: 404 "Not Found" for "/.lv_frontpanelprotocol.rpvi100", file "c:/program files/national instruments/labview 2010/www/.lv_frontpanelprotocol.rpvi100": Can't access URL
If you are aware of this problem or know any solutions, please post a reply.
    Thanks,
    David

Does it work if you preview the web page locally?
Does the client computer have at least the minimum 2010 run time engine installed?

  • Viewing the logged front panel data

I’m writing into the datalog file, I can see that the data is recording every one second, but when I retrieve the data i.e. viewing the logged front panel there is only one data since the range is from 0 to 0 ([0..0]). Does anyone know why? And how can I fix the problem?

You should Never rely on the abort button on the tool bar to stop a VI in a loop writing to a file. The abort stops everything immediately and you don't properly close the file. Instead of using a boolean contant in your loop to get you an endless loop, add a Stop button (a boolean switch) to your front panel. Wire that through an inverter to the Continue terminal of the loop, or (if you're using LabView 6.x) right-click on the Continue terminal and change to Stop if True, then wire the Stop button directly to the terminal. Then pass the file RefNum out of the loop to the Close File function.
For debugging purposes, I do use the Abort toolbar button, but I never create a VI with the Abort as the only means of stopping a VI. Anytime you want to st
op a VI in a loop, you may want to have some control over how it stops. There may be files to close, instruments to shut down, results to process, etc. Even if the VI is very basic or even temporary, just get in the habit of using a Stop button on your front panel rather than a boolean constant to get an endless loop. It's really not that much more work and it gives you control over your VI.
