View Illustrator File in Document List

How do I view an Illustrator document icon? When I am in Illustrator and hit command O I get a list of Illustrator Documents. They have the Illustrator icon but thats all I get. How can I get a small image of the document like I can if its a PDF? I'm sure there is a simple solution to this but I cant find it. Takes too much time to open these files to view. Thanks.

Are you maybe talking about the thumbnail view that we used to get when opening files with Cmd-O? Unfortunately this has been discontinued since OS X came along. Seems they want to force us to use more RAM by having Bridge open as well. Dunno why - the old system was much better.
<br />As for icons in the Finder, I think it depends on what version of the system you are using. I'm on OS X 10.4.10 and get Illy and Pdf icons, but I have seen thumbnail icons on machines that have a newer version.
<br />For my part I rather dislike thumbnail icons (which I note that you can turn off on the new system). I prefer to see the format of files rather than their content. And of course you can easily make you own icons - I have done this for different kinds of pdf. It helps a lot when you want to see straight away which files are for newsprint, which for high quality offset and which for viewing only.

  • How to view Illustrator File Version in Windows XP Explorer windows

On a Mac (Leopard or Snow Leopard) I can add a Version filter to the Finder Windows List Views so I can see what versions my Illustrator Files are saved at and I can see the version and the application that created it if I Get Info on the file.
In windows XP however I cannot see any Version info even if I right click on the filter bar and add the Version Column to filter by. I also dont see any version of the files if I go under a files attributes. The only thing I can see is File Type which will only show me whatever the version of Illustrator on the machine that will open it.
The problem is that I dont want older machines that dont have CS4 to open up CS4 files but there is no way for me to tell which files are CS4 and which are saved down to CS2.
    Thanks in Advance,
    J

Things might be different in the most recent versions of AI, but you can always look at your .ai file in a text editor, such as Wordpad or Notepad. (I keep desktop shortcuts to both onto which I can just drag and drop files for quick looks.)
You'll have to scroll down a bit if you save with the PDF option, but you should come across some text that tells you what you want to know. It'll typically start off with the text string %!PS-Adobe-XXX.
In this particular example, the application used was AI 12.0.1 (CS2), and the file was retro-saved to version 8. (Yes, the variable name "Creator" is somewhat misleading.)
If you have the DTs or are otherwise prone to hitting keys unintentionally, open a copy of the file in your text editor to make sure you don't accidentally modify the original file.
Where did the Info that you had in the .png file come from?
I think that's a Command+I from within a Mac OS Finder listing, Larry.

  • Unable to open excel file in document list

I have an excel workbook that reads from several SharePoint lists. I have a group of users (5 to be exact) that are unable to open the excel file when its in the document list, however, when I email them the workbook they can open it and update the pivot
tables on it (that read from several lists). They were able to open the file in the past and this issue started around 6/20 when office updates were pushed out.
When they open it they get the following error message:
Excel Web Access please contact your admin.
The document list has 20 excel workbooks in it and they can open the other 19 without any issues and 5 of them including the one they can't open connect to the same lists for data.  I even created a test doc library and added the file into it and they
    got the same error message.
    What could be causing this?
note: we not using excel web services, just uploading workbooks where some connect to lists for data

    Hello,
Are you opening file in browser? if so please try to open in client by changing the library settings-->advanced settings-->then set client.
Another thing, what permission are given to both users. Try to provide some higher permission and see the result.

  • Viewing Folder/File sizes in list view

Anyone know of a good app to preview folder/file sizes across the entire HD?
Since I transitioned to a MBP I suffer from juggling my data from HD to external FW drives, especially when I return from traveling or I leave to travel some more. So I find myself in the time-consuming process of hitting "Get Info" on a few hundred folders to find where the data-heavy files exist on my HD, so then I can move them off to FW drive to get more HD space. I practice good file management but even still podcast downloads or project files from my students, colleagues, etc. can get out of control. I can narrow down the sources to Movies, Pictures, etc. and the Applications support files in my Library but would much rather be able to view the folder sizes in one list and locate the heavy files much faster. Maybe there is an Automater workflow? Or I just haven't been able to find the preference in the viewer so that I can see folder sizes, not just the "--" under the size column. I haven't been able to figure it out.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How to view Illustrator File Version in Snow Leopard?

I need to see which version of ai file I am sending to my vendors. Ever since upgrading to snow leopard I have not been able to see which version of ai my files are saved to. When I look at files on our server or copy them down to my local destop the version view is blank and when I do a get info it does not tell me what version the file is saved in.  Just that the file was created in CS4.  My vendors only use ai cs and I have to make sure the files are the correct version before forwarding on to my vendors.  I have been searching Mac OS X forums and Adobe forums to no avail.  I have been able to save the files to my desktop open them in ai re-save and then see the version that I saved the ai file to.  But that is not a feasible workflow what so ever based on the mass amounts of files that I transfer to my vendors.
    Thakns for any help.

    Works fine for me. 10.6.3.

  • DPT-S1 Feature Add Request: File Size (bytes) Sorting and Display in Documents Lists

Document Lists view should include option to sort by and display file Size (bytes), as in all other file tools.
That would permit discovery of duplicate files with different names, and trimming out the largest files to save space.
    Thanks!

  • How have a list view of last published documents when you are a contributor ?

    Hello,
    thanks for your help.
    here is the problem :
    - A library is set with versionning (draft and published) documents.
    - the library contain this documents
    - DOC A : version 1.3 : version 1.0 is published
    - DOC B : version 2.4 : version 2.0 was unpublished
    - Adam is a contributor of this library. He can create, edit, delete, publish, unpublish a document. His list view display DOC A v1.3 and DOC B version 2.4.
    - John is a reader of this library. He can only read the published documents. His list view display DOC A v1.0 only.
To manage this library, Adam want to have the same view of this library as John. He want to view only the published documents.
How can I give a published document view to Adam ?
My first reflexe was to do a view filtering the versions containing ".0". The problem is that DOC A not appear, because the visibility version of this document is 1.3 for Adam (and 1.0 for John)
How can I give him a published document view? perhaps with programmation, SharePoint Designer,...
thanks for every help and samples.

Give Adam a test account with the same permissions as John. It's the only way to be sure.

  • Packaging an InDesign document with Placed Illustrator Files which contain PLACED GRAPHICS!

I've got an InDesign document 215 pages long.  Each page contains a placed Illustrator document... and each Illustrator document contains a placed TIFF.
When I package the InDesign Document the Illustrator files are gathered into the new location, but InDesign does not gather the TIFFs.  I need to get this material to the book designer, but relinking 215 pages is going to be a very risky and time consuming process--one that will have to be done OVER and OVER again as the project moves from one location to another.  Can anyone recommend a solution?  Why doesn't InDesign look for nested files?
Does anybody understand what I'm talking about?
    --Jay

The reason behind link (.psd in layers) means in the future it can be edited.
If the person receiving to package needs to edit the layers of a PSD placed in an Illustrator file, then yes you would have to manually include the layered PSDs. But if it's just a matter of ensuring full res and color managed output downstream then saving as PDF does that and preserves the links to layered files locally. So if I save as PDF trash a link and reopen the PDF in Illustrator it will look for the link:
If you save as .ai with the links embedded, the users downstream would be able to unembed and edit a flattened version of the placed art.

After a little Googling, it looks like B.Media is a content management system from Wave Corporation used for making catalogs. Doubtful you'd be able to license it at less than an enterprise level.

  • List View Threshold and Relevant Documents

I have a Sharepoint Site that contains several libraries.  Some with infopath forms and others with pdf's.  On the site's main page I had added the relevant documents web part.  The relevant documents web part is used frequently by certain
users to attach hyper links in infopath forms to pdf's stored in a library filled with pdf's.
Recently one the sites users recieved the error message within the relevant documents web part saying: " The attempted operation is prohibited because it exceeds the list view threshold enforced by the administrator"
Strange part was it was only affecting this user.  So I went to the central admin site and increased the list view threshold from 20,000 to 30,000 which solved the problem for now.  None of our libraries individually exceeded the 20,000 document
view threshold limit.  However I believe all of them combined due which is what caused the relevant documents to stop working.
What I am wondering is if it is possible to filter which libraries the relevant documents list indexes/displays so that I can keep the lower view threshold limit to keep server load down?  I was not able to find any options in the web
part settings for the relevant documents web part that would do this.  My backup option is to move certain libraries to a new site, which is not ideal.  Some pdf document libraries cannot be moved because the hyperlinks would all be broken.

I instead used the greater than which looks like it worked in pulling only more recent documents.  The problem is most of the documents are in folders that were created years ago so if someone browses to the library certain folders will be hidden.
I don't know if setting up private default views will fix this for them and allow me to drop the list view threshold back to 20,000.
I will have to test this later today.

  • Why can't I import the u3d file as a view onto my pdf document?

After searching the web I finally found the instructions on how to import a 3d view onto a PDF document using Acrobat 7 Pro.
I created the .u3d file and clicked on the TOOLS menu, then ADVANCE EDITING and then 3D Tool. I highlighted an area where I want the 3d view to be and the ADD 3D content window shows up. I then brouse to select my .U3D file and click the OK button. But nothing happens, why? Maybe I need to install more options? Does anyone know?

    Hi,
is it possible to extend the search in the cad desktop's view DOCUMENT LIST?
when i click the button SEARCH i get to some kind of CV04N-Search. Is it possible to implement a new Tab? i want to search by a change service order and select all documents which are attached to the order's materials.
    thanks

is there no chance to do this?
another approach would be to insert a new "search"-button to the menu in this view. but i found no way to clear the document list and insert new lines.
    any help would be nice.
