View interactive PDF online?

Hi,
Anyone know if there are any PDF viewers out there which support interactive PDF documents, made and exported from Indesign?
What i want is to create a print catalog for a client in Indesign and an interactive version of the same catalog for online publication.
Most viewers i've come across don't support the interactive functions made in Indesign. When you upload a catalog the viewers
convert them to it's own format. So you have to put on all interactive elements and functions in their management tool, which is,
in my opinion, worthless (a lot of extra job).
So, why do i want some kind of viewer? First, due to demands by my client, whom think an ordinary PDF haven't got the
professional look as some viewers got. Second, it has to work in all platforms and devices (both the design as well as the functions).
Third, it has to be online, with no demand on my clients customers to download an program as Reader etc.
So, if anyone have any ideas how to solve this problem, please howl ;).
One more thing, the PDF solution must be cheaper than the printed version (therefor we can't make an app) and the work must be
done in Indesign to be graspable (the catalog is going to be made in over 20 languages for as many countries).
Thank's in advance!
/Fabian

Hi again,
I was thinking if you are able to get online access to an interactive PDF through a file sharing service like Dropbox?
Theoretically it should work to embed the Dropbox link, for example in a frame on a webpage or through a newsletter
in an email? Then it should be accessable on any browser, without the potential customer needing to download a plugin etc.
Or maybe i'm missing something here, any thoughts?

  • Is there a way to make links automatically open in a new window / new tab when viewing the PDF online

    Hi there,
Currently we are adjusting our PDF files at our company, in order to make them more "user-friendly".
We are looking for a way, when our customers view the PDFs online, that the URL that is in the PDF, when clicked on, will automatically open in a new window, instead of opening the URL in the same window as the PDF is opened..
Could some-one please help me this?
    regards,

It worked for me. See the source of my example at (PDF link to open in new window). (Sorry, that is the default title of the test page.)

  • Issues with viewing Interactive PDF.

I am a professor and use Indesign to design my digital slideshows—both images and videos. After exporting as Interactive PDF I view the files through Acrobat. I have two problems. After viewing one of the videos in acrobat I am not able to move on to the next image or video. The video just ends and the screen stays black. My workaround is to hit 'escape' to exit full screen mode. Upon entering fullscreen mode again I am able to resume viewing the PDF. There must be a better solution than this. My second problem is that the MOV files don't have sound when viewed in acrobat as interactive PDFS, yet these same MOV have sound when viewed with quicktime. Any ideas?

There's no way within the default workflow tools in Acrobat to automatically advance a PDF when a video annotation stops playing, but you can do it by replacing the video player widget with a customized one and adding some JavaScript to the PDF. However  it'll need to be done in Acrobat after the PDF has been exported.
As to the audio in your MOV file, it's because it's not in the correct format. Acrobat and Adobe Reader can render Flash video or native H.264 video streams, and AAC or MP3 audio, but cannot play the Linear PCM audio that is commonly included in Quicktime files (e.g. from a DSLR camera). You'll need to transcode the file into the correct format (H.264/AAC) - which is one reason why Acrobat Suite and Creative Suite collections include Adobe Media Encoder.

  • Best solution to view Interactive PDFs

    Hi there.
I have created an interactive PDF in Livecycle and I am getting a couple of customer complain they either cannot open it or there are problems with the rendering.
I am assuming that some of them do not have Adobe Reader.
Anyone have any other viewers/addons that will enable clients to open the interactive pdfs.
    Cheers
    Will

    Hi Will,
There are many threads on the forums dealing with third party viewers, in particular Apple Preview. Also I have a summary here: http://bit.ly/fMPYdg.
If it is likely that your users could be using a viewer other than Acrobat or reader, then it might be worth including a text message advising Reader.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • Are there compatibility problems with viewing interactive PDFs?

I created an interactive PDF in InDesign, exported to v5, looks and works great, but I heard
that you can in no way guarantee your PDF will work on the user's computer
because the compatibility of the PDF across viewers is shaky at best. For
instance, there is little to no support for interactivity with Apple OS X's
"Preview" application, which is the default to open PDFs on all Mac computers.
Support even wanes across Adobe's own Acrobat versions - for instance
some types of interactivity are supported in various versions, but not in
others. This goes with application version number (i.e. v5 vs v6) and version
type (i.e. Acrobat Reader application vs Acrobat Reader plugin inside the web
browser vs Acrobat Pro). ---This is the first I've heard of any compatibility
problems, do you know if this is true or something to worry about?

Those are the limitations you have to put up with.
Apple doesn't follow the PDF spec. It chooses which PDF features it will support.
As to the version number (v5 or v6 or the new multimedia features in v9), there is different support in different versions of Reader/Acrobat as the product has developed. You just need to post a message to downloaders that they need to view the file in Adobe Reader version X or above to get the best experience.
Other industry standards face the same problem: How can you add new feature like multimedia? You can't always be backwards compatible.

I just found on other thread. I tried this and it helped solve view the contents. I  other words this resolved.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Password protect fields in interactive pdf

    Hi all,
I have completed an interactive pdf online form and I want to make one of the sections (several fields) password protected. So two questions:
How do you password protect fields?
Do you have to apply password protection to each individual field or can you highlight a section (several fields) and password protect the whole section?
    Would really appreciate some help.
    Thanks so much. . .

Many thanks George for your helpful advice. It is appreciated.

  • How can I view just one spread at a time of my interactive PDF?

    Hi,
Apologies of this has been asked before.
I am creating an interactive PDF of a magazine, to be viewed online.
I would like to be able to 'flip' through the spreads one spread at a time. I do not want to be able to scroll down.
I do not want to use SWF for various reasons (viewing on ipad etc)
When I open the magazine online it displays like this (one spread below the other) Is there a way for the spreads to be 'stacked' so I can only see one at any one time?
    Thanks
    Ben

    Hi Ben,
You might want to create a pdf portfolio and check.

  • Cannot open/view/access interactive pdf form using Safari

I was unable to open interactive pdf forms from websites with Safari 6 on my iMac. I received the following message:
    Quote
To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
For further support, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html
    Unquote
I still couldn't view/open/access the form even after I upgraded to Version 11.0.04 of Adobe Reader.
This problem happens only (I believe) after I updated OS X and Safari. Previously I was able to do it without any trouble as recently as July 2013. However, I don't encounter any issue if it is just an ordinary pdf document especailly if it can be downloaded to be opened later.
As far as I can ascertain, I don't have any plug-in except for McAfee SiteAdvisor 2.0, 1Password 3.9.0, AdBlock 2.5.46 (which is disabled), Evernote Web Clipper 5.7, and Open In Internet Explorer 1.0 (by Parallels).
    I am using OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and Safari 6.0.5 (8536.30.1).
Can anyone please help? Thank you.

Thank you, Carolyn Samit and andyBall_uk, for your prompt responses and suggestions.
Although I didn't follow your recommendations, they gave me some idea regarding what to do to resolve the issue.
The solution is actually very simple. I uninstalled my existing Adobe Reader (using CleanMyMac 2 but I believe moving the app to trash should do it as well), downloaded a fresh copy (version 11.0.04) and reinstalled it again. When the software was being installed, it asked whether I wanted to make Adobe Reader (AR) the default PDF reader. I indicated OK and allowed installation to proceed and finish.
After installation of AR, I reopened Safari and went to a website to click the link to the pdf form. And lo and behold, I was able to open/access/view the document! It worked with a second website.
So the lesson is when installing an upgrade remember to make Adobe Reader the default PDF reader.
I hope that this procedure can help others resolve their issue if they have a similar problem.

  • Document viewer in interactive PDF?

I am making an interactive PDF portfolio in Indesign CS6, and I want to provide writing samples. I wanted to know if there is a pdf viewer that I could place in my PDF portfolio and have it appear when I press a button. Any help?

When you send a PDF, there is no way to "embed" a PDF viewer. How it will appear depends somewhat on the PDF reader installed by the person who views the document. If you keep things simple (limited interactivity), you should be fine.

  • Does Safari support a interactive PDF with hidden layers? I'm on version  5.0.3 and the interactive PDF displays just fine, but our web development team tells me all the layers display when they view the same PDF on Safari.

Does Safari support interactive PDFs with layers? Through the use of hidden layers and buttons we built in interactivity that allows the viewers to click on buttons to display different content. When I view the PDF in Safari 5.0.3 on my Mac OS 10.5.8 the PDF displays fine and the interactivity works. However our web design firm tell me the PDF displays all the hidden layers when they view it in Safari. Who's right?

Try updating your Safari to the latest version, 5.0.5.
Also check whether the rest of your system is up to date by going to Software Update in the Apple menu.

  • Having just made a interactive pdf with a interative table of contents which views perfectly in SWF

I have created an interactive PDF (CS6), with an interactive table of contents and animation that all work perfectly in SWF preview panel. All settings are for PDF export only and yet in Acrobat, despite having all the other buttons and animation work, the intertractive table of contents cannot be activated in Acrobat Pro.
The table can be activated by button and viewed, the rollover buttons can be seen, the close button works just not the text anchors to the pages. Nor can I see it at 100% it is visible at 50% opacity though i have not added any opacity edits to the TOC. Can you help, I have triple checked all the settings in InDesign looked at 10 videos all concur my settings are correct, but still not operable in Acrobat Pro

Ask in the ID and Acrobat forums.

  • IE pdf viewer kills interactivity in interactive pdf?

I have an interactive pdf that works fine in Acrobat reader, but when I
access it via an html link (in the IE pdf viewer) the interactivity
doesn't work at all.    Is there any way to tell IE to keep it interactive?

    Hi Bernd,
The interactivity is mostly just a bunch of links that allow navigation within the pdf.   Also, the page orientation where 2 pages display side-by-side (horizontally) is lost and the pages render singly in sequential order (vertically) when viewed in IE.    I was guessing that this was becuase the IE viewer imposes security restrictions.
    Thanks,
    Trey Carroll
