View Invisibles as default setting?

Is it possible to set the default for new Pages documents to "View Invisibles"
using a terminal command line like "defaults write com.apple.iWork.Pages..."?
Thanks!

We may get this behavior if we create a custom template with this feature set.
I looked in such a document ad found that the setting is stored in the property
SFWPShowInvisiblesProperty
Alas, when I installed such property in the preferences file, the newly created documents didn't reflect it.
I searched in the inthebox templates, there is no such property so, I assume that this one is introduced by the application code itself.
I guessed a way to force it by default thru the inthebox templates.
Navigate to reach :
Macintosh HD:Applications:iWork '09:Pages.app:Contents:Resources:Templates:Blank.template:index-iso.xml.gz
or Macintosh HD:Applications:iWork '09:Pages.app:Contents:Resources:Templates:Blank.template:index-trad.xml.gz
if you use American paper size.
Double click to expand it
rename the original ,file as
backup_index-iso.xml.gz
or
backup_index-trad.xml.gz
In the expanded file, search for the string
"</sl:SFWPCTShowDeletedTextProperty>"
Just after it, insert the string:
"<sl:SFWPShowInvisiblesProperty><sl:number sfa:number="1" sfa:type="c"/></sl:SFWPShowInvisiblesProperty>
Save the file.
After that, every document created from this template will default to "Show Hidden Characters".
If you are interested, I may write a script able to apply the trick to every inthebox templates.

  • Thumbnail view as the default setting.

    Two related questions.
    1) How do I make Thumbnail view in the project panel the default setting for all/new projects?   I've set my workspace and keyboard arrangement as my custom layouts, but when I make a new project, it always defaults to list view.
    2) In a project I'm already using, when I load it up, it's loading up in list view where as in all old Premiere versions, it would load up as whatever the previous setting was.  Am I doing something without realizing it that's making it default back to list view?
    Thanks.

It doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong. And as far as I know, nothing's been changed in this regard in terms of expected behavior. So my first guess is that your preferences aren't getting saved properly. The first test I'd try is to launch PPro, change a pref that's easy to test like Show Tooltips, save/close/relaunch, and check whether tooltips are displayed--or simply go back into Preferences and see if the setting stuck.
If that change to the prefs didn't take, then the next step is to clear the prefs by holding down the Alt key while you launch Pr.  Keep holding it down until you see the Welcome Screen pops up.

  • Moniter view moves from default setting

    Hi,
I'm having an intermittent problem with a dual monitor setup...
I have set up dual monitors using a HP Elitebook Folio 9470m (Windows 7 Enterprise) with the:
    *  Left hand monitor (Digital Display 1) being via a HP HDMI dataport cable
    *  Right hand monitor (Digital Display 2) being via a VGA cable
When I initally login - the monitors work fine; however, several time during the day (particularly if I have to wake the machine from "sleep) the right hand monitor image shifts about 2 inches to the right...
I have to drag all applications from that monitor and then go through a process of factory resetting the monitor several times before the image returns to the centre default position
Any clues as to what the problem might be?
    Kind regards,
    Ian

  • How do I change the default setting on  the 'view scale'?

I'll try submitting this a second time - it didn't seem to go through the first time.
I have an iMac G5 (OSX 10.4.4.), my first encounter with Apple. I find that the default size that text displays on screen in the wordprocessing application is too small for my eyes (I ain't as young as I used to be ...). The text always displays in what seems to be about font 8 or 10, no matter what size I set the document font (it will print in the size I set, but not display in it).
I have discovered that I can change the display size by using the 'view scale' tab in the lower left corner of the window. Size 140 suits me just fine. Problem is that I have to change the view scale each time I open a new document.
Can anyone tell me how to change the default setting on 'view scale' ?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You can create default documents with the settings you want for each type of AppleWorks document. I wrote a user tip, New, blank documents with your settings, that details how to do this.

  • Can I over-ride the default setting in Organizer to allow sorting photos by filename ?

I am converting slides from the 1970's and 80's to digital files and using PSE 8 to Organize them but it is important to me that they stay in the order of the file name I give them and NOT "Date: newest first or last" because it would seem that PSE, in the absence of metafile information, uses the date and time I uploaded the file to the Organizer as the "Date:".  ACDSee has a much more sensible arrangement in giving me full control of how my photos are sorted.  I am being driven to using ACDSee as the organizer and PSE as the photo editor, a not very convenient arrangement.  So my question is, "Can I over-ride the default setting in Organizer to allow sorting photos by filename ?"

The type of file system that you're trying to set up, is actually done better by creating you own file heirarchy in Windows, and then viewing by import batch.  For example; you might create a top level folder "My Slide Scans", then perhaps, "My son John". So, the scans of john all go in the same folder, you import the folder in one batch, and you're where you want to be.
That said, PSE will fight you at every turn to do this, since with the scanner hooked up with PSE, PSE is going to want to store your photos in "scanned photos" and import them as you scan them.
I woud suggest this.  After the scan and import, use PSE to move the photos to their final destination folder, say " Hawaii 1994", and create a tag of the same name". Then when you're done scanning photos of this event, use the tag to view all the scans at once. Then, delete all the photos from the organizer. (Yeah, sounds radical I know). Take heart! All you've gotta do then is to reimport the whole folder. All the same name photos will be in one import batch. And with all the photos of any given topic in one folder, you'll be able to also use Windows Explorer in any number of modes to view the photos outside PSE.
Keep in mind you can rename batchs of photos by selecting them, or by import batch or even tag, then "Ctrl. > Shift > N" will bring up the name change dialog box.
This technique is quite contensious, but, it makes a whole lot more sense than storing all your photos in the "My Photos" folder on the "C:/" drive where any viral or malware hiccup might cause the necessity of a reformat, which could cause the loss of years of work.
If a name search is a priority, that would be "Ctrl ."Shift" > "K" then type in whatever your heart desires.
Caution: Before attempting a delete/ reimport manuver, Alway, always, write the tag and file info to the photo. "File" >"Write Tag and Properties Info to File".
I always am quite adamantine about suggesting that you do NOT use the same physical HDD that contains Windows to store your photos, that's just asking for trouble. HDDs are quite cheap nowadays, and they're worth every penny in piece of mind. Plus to use a storage ("Volume") drive, you have to create your own file heirarchy anyway, so that leads right back to the beginning of this discussion.

  • How do you change the default setting in the motions tab?

    Greetings!
We have two macs in our editing suite. Both are running FCP studio 2. One of the macs has a default setting for the drop shadow of 2 in the motion tab. The other mac has the default setting of 10. How can I change the default settings (not as a favorite) so that when I open a clip in the viewer the default setting will always be my preference (1.5) instead of the standard 10. I also want to change the opacity to 90% as the default.
    Thanks for your help.

Below is a step-by-step process for changing the default font in CS6, Illustrator, Mac, Mountain Lion, 10.8.2.
There are several additiional steps needed to make this work.
Please feel free to us this for other inquiries.
To Change Default Font in CS6-Ai-Mac-Mountain Lion, 10.8.2
On desktop menu bar, hold down Option key, go to GO, pull down to Library.
Open Application Support, ~ Adobe, ~ Adobe Illustrator CS6, ~ en_us ~ New Document Profiles
Six choices appear (you can change each that you use, one at a time)
    Example: Double click Basic RGB.ai
A Basic RGB.ai blank document window opens
In Menu Bar, go to Window ~ Type ~ Character Styles
A sub-window opens with (Normal Character Style) highlighted in Blue
Double click the highlighted name and another sub-window opens
In left of this window, choose Basic Character Formats
Change to desired Font Family, Font Style, Size, etc.
Click OK when finished, widow disappears to reveal Character Styles sub-window
Click anywhere on the blank document in order to get option to Save
    Save the document
    Close Character Styles sub-window
    Quit Illustrator
Re-launch Illustrator CS6 ~ New document … check Font tool to confirm changed default font
Hope this works for other "Lost Adobe Souls" like myself.

  • Cannot change Printer Properties in Word 2010 with J6480. Properties revert to default setting

When I attempt to change Printer Properties in Word 2010, they simply revert back to the default setting.  I am unable to use the Printer Properties within the Word 2010.  If the default is grayscale, that is all the printer will print unless I change the default setup in the Control Panel. It appears to be an incompatibility with Office 2010 software as other programs allow the change of Printer properties.

I have the exact identical problem.  Brand new printer (HP PhotoSmart C4780) on a brand new PC (Windows 7).  I cannot access the printer properties dialog box when the PDF file has been opened in an embedded Adobe Viewer window in Internet Explorer.
When I select [Print] from Word or Adobe Viewer, or anywhere else, I can then press the [Properties] button and it opens the printer properties just fine.
But if I open a PDF document through Internet Explorer, clicking on that [Properties] button doesn't do anything.  No error or anything.  If I press the [Save] in the Adobe Acrobet-embedded Internet Explorer window, it too does nothing.  This leads me to think it is an Adobe Acrobat issue.  However, I have found nothing in their support forums on this topic.
Does anyone out there have any ideas?

  • PowerShell Script for Setting the Welcome Page View of a document set

    Hi,
We are using document set in the document library and we have created the separate view in the document set and it will show only particular metadata columns. We need to change from default view to another view. For this, we need to write the power shell
script and update the document set welcome page view link in the document set template. Please let me know how we can get this.
    Thanks,
    Mylsamy

    Hey Mylsamy,
welcome page view is stored in $contenttype.XmlDocuments. Here is how you can change the view using powershell:
    $web = Get-SPWeb "WEBURL"
    $list = $web.Lists["LISTNAME"]
    $contenttype = $list.ContentTypes["CONTENTYPENAME"]
    $viewid = $list.Views["VIEWNAME"].Id
    $xmldocs = $contenttype.XmlDocuments
    foreach($xmldoc in $xmldocs)
    if($xmldoc.Contains("WelcomePageView"))
    Write-Host "XML contains WPV"
    $newview = [XML] @"
    <wpv:WelcomePageView xmlns:wpv="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/documentsets/welcomepageview" ViewId="$viewid" />
    $xmldocs.Delete("http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/documentsets/welcomepageview")
    $xmldocs.Add($newview)
    break;
    $contenttype.Update($updateChildren, $false)
Write-Host "Welcome Page View updated at " $list.Title

  • Changing Primary only as default setting?

Is there any way to change the default setting so that it's not on Primary only by when opening Aperture? I find this really annoying and would rather toggle this setting when needed, rather than the other way around.
    Thanks for any advice!

Hmmm...wondering if there is something corrupt with my Aperture install then because I leave it off, yet everytime I open the program, it's turned on. Also, my browser window seems to have a mind of it's own as well...I will leave it on a certain file that I am working on close the application and reopen and it will be on a different file or will be in a different view mode altogether.

  • How to remove "all day" as the default setting in iCal?

How to remove "all day" as the default setting in iCal? The iCloud calendar works by double-clicking but the local behaves differently.

    Hello Valerie,
the default - "all day" or "time based" - depends on the view in iCal. In month view the default is "all day",
in week view or day view it is a time interval, if you use "File -> New Event". If you add the event by double clicking into the calendar, it will depend on the section you are clicking - in the all day section you will add an all-day event, in the time-grid you will enter an event with start-end time.
