View Mac screen on TV via a Sony PS3
Hi,
Is it possible for me to view my computer on the TV or have an extended desktop onto my TV via my PS3?
I have the new Macbook (13" white) just released this month, a Panasonic 50" Plasma TV, and a PS3 (80GB version) and my Macbook and PS3 are connected to the same internet network.

if i understand you correctly, you wish to share you screen over the LAN network you have???
if so the only option is to use a VNC based app. even at that i doubt a PS3 would have VNC compatibility. VNC has a fairly slow frame rate, and Mac OSX will not stream video at native speeds across network connections.. Try using something like a mini DVI - composite or component converter instead.

Is there a way to transfer your normal Mac screen to the TV via Apple TV? Shouldn't pose to many techincal difficulties and would be a nice feature as you could run a webbrowser and BBC Iplayer that way. Is this possible?
I noticed your reply about "can't stream anything via an Apple TV that isn't a file in an itunes lib."
You should be able to use an ATV with your Sony TV via HDMI cable and you can use it to display your iPhoto photos from your iMac.
Otherwise, the only way you can provide content to an ATV is through an iTunes library, either by syncing or streaming to it from the library. If you make your own files, you can import them into the iTunes library and then you can sync or stream them to an ATV.
You can also get content directly on an ATV from the iTunes store from the available content listed in the ATV menu (such as podcasts, movies and TV shows). -

Is there any way to do this via some type of screen sharing technology, or any other helpful tips to achieve this?

Hi all, I'm trying to connect my macbook pro to Sony Bravia tv using Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support , when connected to the HDMI on tv I get a picture of the mac screen saver ( the starburst ) no video/audio,any ideas? thanks, Derek
Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.

Finally took the plungs and upgraded to Lion OSx so that I could access icloud. Everything worked ok but I now find it difficult to view the screen. Everything has a grey tinge and with my poor eyesight it's really frustrating. Zooming in is ok but I would really like more contrast. What was wrong with crisp white and deep black? Have tried to change the profiles in System Preferences but it's confusing to follow and after 3 attempts I still don't like any of the profiles. My photos all have an unnatural colour now. How can I improve this and bring everything back to 'normal'? Whose 'bright' (?) idea was it to make everyting grey and why???
Thanks. Very helpful. It's now less of a strain for me. But the fonts are still too pale. I really need to be able to read words that are black. In Mail, the sender and headings are dark enough, but the content is still too light for me to read without straining. Any other suggestions?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

Imovie quits unexpectedly whenever I try to publish, or view full screen. How do I fix that?

Dead screen, transfering documents via firewire - need help
Greetings,
So I've got a 1 Ghz iMac (floating pivot screen.) - my primary mission critical workstation. My screen died today. Grrrr.
No time to muck about, I went out and purchased a mac mini (1.5 Ghz single intel core), I want to transfer all data from the old box to the new asap.
The migration assistant that appears at first boot up is cool, and I was able to move all applications. (handy!)
Problem is that I couldn't move all my user documents because the old Mac's drive is 80 gig and the new is only 60. So I figured I would just drag and drop as much as I can manually.
I've gone and reattached the old mac to the new via firewire and booted up the old box as an external drive. Problem is, when I open up the user folder on the old hard drive I'm not seeing any files.... ie. all folders including the old desktop folder are empty....its like the files are hidden or something.
Help please.could it be because under ownership and permissions I have no access to these folders? Is that why the folders "appear" empty? - then my next question would be, how can I give myself access to them?
Remembering that I am unable to boot up and use the old iMac (except in external drive mode) since the screen (or video card???) is dead.
Also - I'm attempting spotlight searches from the new mac on the old mac's HD for known files on the old mac's desktop and its coming back with nothing...

Creating PDFs for viewing on screen

I have had a problem recently when I have created PDFs from InDesign. I have outlined the text, and created the PDF. It previews fine on my Mac, but when I send it to a client who is using a PC they notice that certain letters (eg. 'l') appear bold. This is not in the original file. I have had this problem with Illustrator aswell. One work round that I notice was that instead of outputting at 72dpi (Mac screen resolution), I have outputted at 96dpi (PC screen resolution). However, this increases the file size.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
ThanksOutlining the fonts is your problem. The text loses it's hinting, which is the "artificial intelligence" built into fonts, without hinting the information will grow by pixel depending on where it falls on the grid - making it as simple as I can, that's why it looks bolder and it is actually bolder.
Don't outline your fonts, it makes the file size larger for one thing.
When you make a PDF, File>EXPORT> from InDesign you can choose a Subset of fonts. A subset is usually 100%, which will only embed the glyphs used within the document. If you set this to 0% it will embed all the glyphs within the font into the document whether you used it or not. This can increase the final size of the pdf too (just the 0% option). But leaving the text as text without outlining will significantly reduce your file size.
As already said the font will be embeded in the PDF so your client will be able to view the PDF without any problems, any print vendor worth their salt should be able to handle a PDF with embedded fonts.
But the font appears bolder because it actually is bolder when outlined. And some characters can lose their natural shape as a result of outlining.
It is perfectly fine to outline fonts if you have no other choice, licence restirctions sometimes don't allow fonts to embedded, for example. Other occasions would be the instance of creativity with a piece of text where you want to elongate a tail of a letter or something for artistic purposes.
But for genreal text, there is no need to outline. -
Loading videos freezes my mac screen!
Video loading causes my mac screen to freeze forcing me to restart the mac! any ideas would be aprecited
It's time to get back to basics since we know very little about your system and how you are trying to view the videos.
What model iMac do you have?
What version of the OS is installed?
What application(s) are you using to view the videos?
Have you tried creating a new user account to see if the issue goes away?
Is there another application you can try to vide the same video? (eg use Firefox instead of Safari)
Have you run the built in Apple Hardware Test diagnostic to see if it generates any errors?

FB05- screen layout different via FLB1
Dear SAP Guru's
I need your help. The layout of Post with Clearing: Create residual items is fine via FB05 where the user can see the right side of the screen that has the amount entered, assigned, difference postings and not assigned cannot view this without scrolling over via the lockbox postprocessing FLB1. I can't figure out where in the set-up is wrong? I tried the transaction codes for defining line layout and attaching the line layout to Transaction code are as O7Z4S and O7V3 for FB05 but that didn't work. The set-up o FB05 is fine if you access the screen directly but if you are processing lockbox via FLB1, the screen is different.
PLEASE HELP!

I get an error-box asking for 'Mac OS reinstall' after trying to invoke Mac OS X Utilities via 'cmd-R' for startup.
The MacBookPro has been working fine without visible issues on Lion after normal startup. What do?

For this I rebooted with the 'cmd-R' Option without any external HD or DVD connected. Apparently this invokes what you call the 'Recovery HD' (partition). Then the error occurs.
I have exactly the same problem. This happened because of an interrupt to the reinstallation process. After the interrupt, whenever I reboot my lion with the cmd-R option, it gives me the error message: 'There was a problem installing "Mac OS X" Try reinstalling.' in exactly the same screen. After I press ok, I am in the installer. But I cannot figure out how to reinstall. The problem is definitely with the os in the recovery disk partition, not the full lion os in the regular disk partition.
Some people have encountered the same error message. They contacted Apple and were asked to reset the PRAM. I looked through what it did. I believe that it is an overkill. There should be some easier way to fix it. Let me know if anyone knows the details of what happens when BaseSystem.dmg is run. -
Sometimes when I quit Firefox, it makes my Mac screen display solid blue color. The computer does not crash, but I can't see anything. Opening programs, nor hitting any shortkey makes the display work again, so I have to shut down.
I am using Macbook pro, OS 10.6.8, 4 GB memory, 2 ghz intel processors i7. This has happened about 6 times in the last 3 months. Seems to be getting more frequent. Sometimes happens after using Netflix streaming video, sometimes after browsing sites that don't play video. I frequently use Pandora, but have Firefox set to dump cache, memory, etc. after each use.Have you tried a safe start by holding the shift key when you boot? If that works, and it can take a while to complete, see if a regular boot now works. If it does, you need to free up space on your hard drive.
If a safe boot doesn't work, you need to either boot from an OS X DVD or go into target disk mode to connect via firewire cable to another mac to free up space on your hard drive. You need 5GB min, with 10% to 15%, or more, better, for systems usage. If you have a backup, move some data files to it, erase them and empty the trash. -
CC logo vanished from top of Mac screen
I used to be able to update and install new CC programs using a small CC logo (looks like a link) at the top bar of the Mac screen. But it seems to have vanished.
My subscription is still valid. Does anyone know how I'd get this link back?

Just noticed that it's moved to the top of my second screen. But is greyed out. And if I scroll over it I get the Mac spinning colour wheel.

Please rename OOBE to OOBEE.OLD Folder from the following location
location in Window C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
location in Mac: library>.application support>>Adobe>> OOBE
After renaming the OOBE folder please uninstall Adobe creative cloud from the cleaner tool and re-installed the product from from www.creative.adobe.com/apps
PS: Please uninstall Creative cloud connection if you see in Cleaner tool.
As the above discusson also mentions renamimg, Please disable the firewall of the system & network & then retry.
