View of developers on Netweaver as a Development Platform

Hello,
My company is looking into using Netweaver as a development platform (customised web applications, extensions to existing SAP functionality). As a developer, I would like to hear the view of other developers on this - should I be worried? Is this a good development platform and if not, what are the major areas of concern? How does this all compare to using Java / Weblogic as an application platform? Thank you!

Hi Neeraj,
SAP B1 would support your requirement and is the right fit for your health care industry.
You can check with appropriate SAP partners who have done implementation in specific industry as yours, so you could get to know from them the whole cycle of implementation(including the time and resources required ).
For Standard implementation without any customizations it would to take 2 to 3 months.
If there are specific needs you have which is not supported in standard SAP B1 then you would require customizations like the use of  addon to specific industry which could cost extra as well as take more time
Hope it helps

  • How to access Views of ERP with Netweaver BPM?

    Hello,
i want to create an example-application with Netweaver BPM and Visual Composer.
For this, more employees should share the creation of a new Material in an ERP Backend.
Every emplyoee should enter data of a different View of MM01 ! (like Basic Data, Sales..., Purchasing., ..)
I thought about using the Service "Create Material Basic Data" but there are only little options for the data you can enter
    (only InternalID, Base Units, Description...).
So my question is, how can i get access to the usual views of MM01 with Netweaver BPM and Visual Composer?
Or how can i enter more Materialdata with Webservices?
    Thanks for your help,
    Oliver

What you could also do is make use of MDM Webdynpro Components since your intention is probably to update master data at the end you can use MDM Webynpro Components and then use them a webdynpro application. Use the webdynpro component in the BPM Process in return or use the option given in the previous reply as well.

  • Problems with installing Netweaver 2004s SR1 Developer Workplace with MS

I get the following errors when I try to install Netweaver 2004s SR1 Developer Workplace with MS SQL Server:
    saploc does not exist
FJS--0003 TypeError: this._name has no properties in script NW_Workplace

    Hi
I think you must be geting this error soon after givening the java cd path.If this is true then the problem is with your JDK.Usually this kind of error appears during the installation if there is some incompatibility between what is required and written in the instaaltion scriot and what actually you have installed(i mean version incompatibility also)
Please make sure that you have taken correct CD's and JDK
Reward points for my explanation if it is useful for you

  • Logging/viewing SQL statements generated by the SQL Developer IDE?

I know it is possible to view the SQL statements that the SQL Developer IDE generates to fetch result-sets from the database whenever one performs any action - say expanding the "Tables" node for a database, for example. I would appreciate if someone could point out how this functionality could be enabled.
    Thanks,
    RG

In 1.0, you could use the AddVMOption -Daudit.trace=db_api option inside the sqldeveloper.conf file.
In 1.1 however, I don't get output inside the console anymore (for expanding trees, etc.).
Kris, has this option been replaced by another one? Please let us in on all the fun ;-)

    Hi MonsterMMORPG,
I made a mistake in my previous reply. What I suggested is that you created a new and simple WPF app, set the platform to
x64 rather than x86, and then build the app to check the result.
If a new WPF app also has this issue, then I doubt whether this issue is related to your VS.

  • Professional opinions on web development platforms

    Dear JEE developers,
I'm currently part of a research team at the Free University of Berlin, looking into the ways in which the major web development platforms differ. In addition to our work with the Plat_Forms contest, we're now looking for actual professional opinions.
If you have practical experience in the development of non-trivial web applications with two or more web development languages then we would like you to participate in a short survey. Three Java teams participated in this year's Plat_Forms contest but no one used a pure JEE approach. It would be good to have your opinions and experiences in the survey.
The questionnaire asks you about your experiences and opinions on two of the web development languages you have used, and should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. To thank you for your participation, you will be able to provide an email address and we will send you our final report when we are finished compiling it.
    http://www.plat-forms.org/survey/
We look forward to your answers and experiences, let me know via email if you have any questions.

First define "pure JEE approach", what exactly do you mean by that and what made you decide noone used that system?
Maybe your defintion is wrong, maybe you have tainted your decisions based on incorrect or incomplete assumptions.

  • About oracle spatial development platform

    Dear sir:
At present,I can set the spatial data with oracle spatial in Oracle dba 11g,and can view map throught IE with Javascript API.But is there any oracle spatial development platform. With it ,I can drag the visual module(as:JavascriptAPI) to finish the Web page edition.Like ArcGIS,they supply them(as:throuht visual studio,asp.net API).
Can you show me the way to get it?
    Looking forward your reply.
    Thanks your attention.

    Hi,
It sounds like you are using Oracle Maps - i.e. the javascript API of Oracle MapViewer. In that case you are better off posting on the MapViewer forum:
    MapViewer
As for looking for a development environment, JDeveloper is likely to be your best bet for integration, but that really depends on what type of application are you developing? Is it Oracle APEX? BI? ADF? .NET? etc.

  • Photoshop Touch SDK and development platform

The photoshop touch SDK announcement is very exciting, however I own a CS5 windows license and of course I do my ipad/ipod development on Mac: given that unfortunately photoshop licenses are not cross-platform I was wondering if there is/will be a way planned for SDK developers to run photoshop on both platforms for testing etc. (maybe via a limited/timed/no-saving/... version of Photoshop on the platform we are not licensed for?)

Can we now assume that the touch SDK has been abandonned by Adobe? It's now a year after "should be updated soon", and currently if you try to download the touch SDK from this page you get the Photoshop 3 SDK instead!!!
I ask as I'm about to remove Touch support from my app; the very few people that use touch are now having problems e.g., timeouts, with the latest version of Photoshop.

  • Best development platform for enterprise applications on the Oracle DB

We have been developing enterprise applications for many years based on Oracle technologies, right now we have reached a significant number of systems developed with Oracle Forms 6i and a few ones with Oracle Forms 10g. Although according to Oracle Statement of Direction of March 2012 Oracle remains committed to the support of Oracle Forms and Reports, there won’t be new features added to these products, and we can predict that eventually they are likely to be discontinued. Although we will continue using the Oracle Database, we have started to look for a replacement of our development platform, for the new developments and the migration of our existing Forms applications. Our Oracle database is installed on a Linux server. We are also planning to retain our existing programming staff and most of them have no experience with other tools or languages.
This way, I would like to hear from people who has faced the same problem what development platform (development framework, IDE, programming language, application server) they chose for developing their next generation enterprise applications and what factors they considered in making that decision.
Any suggestions, ideas, recommendations, considerations or advices you can give us would be welcome and really appreciated. Thank you very much for your time and thank you in advance for your answers.
Edited by: lorpad on Aug 10, 2012 9:05 AM

Your question is not an uncommon one. However, my opinion is that which product or technology you use for an application should not be solely based on what is "cool" today. Some of today's most popular product may not be able to do what you need them to do or at least may not allow you to do it easily. You need to use a product and/or technology which falls into this group:
    1. Does the product/technology offer the features our application will need?
    2. Does the product/technology scale to the level we need? Both in user base and application size?
    3. Does the product/technology offer the level of security we need?
    4. Does the product/technology fall in line with our development team's skill set?
    5. Does the product/technology fall in our budget?
Whether you are speaking of an Oracle product or competitor's product, all have their advantages and disadvantages.
The views expressed in this posting are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of Oracle.

  • Risks and benefits with developement platforms?

    Hi,
I'm wondering about the risks involved with different developement platforms such as xampp or other software like it. Previously I've been running EasyPHP and xampp as well as apache php and mysql each by them self in a windows environment restricted to the local ip range. However since the past year I've mostly used either a FreeBSD machine or my Arch Linux setup (my main computer) and I'm thinking of using xampp on this setup but I'm unsure about what potential threats it poses. Any tip on how to get a smooth and secure yet powerfull and customizable developement platform is greatly appreciated!
What are the critical risks requiring immediate action post installation?
Is there maybe another more customizable LAMP or one that's better suited for Arch?

Clustering will make ZERO difference to most standard GUI apps.
Where it will make a difference is in applications that have been specifically written to take advantage od distributed computing. For example, complex mathmatical simulations, video encoding, gene sequencing, etc. In these applications the workload can be divided into chunks and passed out to nodes in the cluster for processing. When each node completes its calculations it passes the result back to the master node and waits for the next task
This model doesn't apply to iChat (you can't IM any faster than you can type), or iTunes (ok, audio encoding might benefit, but most tracks encode pretty quickly and you might find the time it takes to transfer the raw audio data over the network outweighs the advantages).
From a developer standpoint you can distribute your compiler tasks across a grid so that each node compiles a chunk of code and the master handles the final linking, but that's about the only advantage I can think of off-hand, unless you're planning on writing a distributed app.
