View Options Messed up

Just like everyone, v7.3 was a disaster. Took many hours to get me back to where I was before updating to v7.3, even then, I had to go back to 7.1, since I had no copy of 7.2. Anyway, now that things seem normal, I notice my view options are messed up. All my view options have the same categories checked, but when I look at different playlists, some show ALBUM, some show ALBUM BY ARTIST, some show ALBUM BY YEAR. I compare all the view options & they are the same. I compare INFO settings and they are all the same. Why?

Letting something arbitrarily delete every .DS_Store file on your computer invites bad things to happen.
Running rm is dangerous as is--letting it run rough-shod all over your computer is infinitely dangerous.
I don't know why there is a .DS_Store file  inside an app package, but removing it "damages" the App just as if some malicious code might write malware into the package. So, it is no mystery why they do not work anymore.
Deleting specific .DS_Store files in folders is not normally a problem.
If you have a problem in one folder that doesn't hold its settings, deleting the .DS_Store file is ok.
Here's how I would do it, though:
Open the folder and Cmd-F.
If you don't already, use the Other... option in the Criteria popup to add the System Files and Visibility options to the criteria menu (check the box to include in men).
Set the Search criteria to System Files are included and Visibility is invisible.
Type ".DS_Store" in the search field. You should see the .DS_Store file for that folder at the top of the list, and then all the others in the subfolders.
You can delete it from there.

  • Global View Option Problems!!!

In Tiger you had the option to choose "This Window Only" or "All Windows." In Leopard you can select "Use as Defaults," for the view you are in such as icons, coverflow, etc. The problem is it only works for some windows. If you try to change the size in the window there is no way to get back your global settings. Am I missing something?

Yay, I found it! (Your message prompted me to look further.)
If you hold down OPTION the "Use as Defaults" button changes to "Restore to Defaults". This gives you an easy way to set a folder back to the global settings.
Really if you mess with anything in the view options pane, it is being set JUST for that individual folder and is equal to Tiger's "This Window Only". The reason that the defaults button is often grayed out is because that folder is already set to use the global settings.
They made this feature a lot more confusing than it was in Tiger.
So the only main functionality change seems to be that the view setting (icon/list/column/coverflow) is now set globally instead of per window:

  • Seperate view options for each folder? ie Apps, Downloads, Movies etc

Hey Mac community. I'm an experienced mac user, have been all my life, but I have a question I am hoping one of you can answer. I like to use column view in the Finder and I want to sort the Applications folder by Name and the Downloads folder by Date Created. Even with the appropriate folder selected, using View Options to change the sorting criteria affects every folder. Is there a way around this?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hey Michael,
I'm also a long time Mac user, way back before OSX. I responded to another thread a day or so ago on a similar subject. It's kind of a long post, but you might find it interesting/helpful. Basically, how an old Mac user approaches the 10.5 Finder (which I've grown to really like, btw).
    Here's the thread link...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1766829&tstart=60
Here's the post I put up there...
    "Re: Global Finder Window Problems..."
This is actually the default viewing system in 10.5. I little weird at first, but read on for my take on why I think 10.5 is much nicer than 10.4 and preceding OXSs.
I started using Macs in the pre-OSX days, so was used to the completely dependable and always predictable "spatial" Finder of OS9 and down. Spatial meaning, folders all opening in new windows with every window position, view setting, icon position, even scroll bar (if there is one) remembered without exception. Also, no browser mode at all.
So I tried to recreate the old OS9 default folder view in 10.4... First, create a desktop folder, set to icon view, turn off Toolbar/Sidbar, which causes nested folders to open in their own new window. Great! Now all folders within created within that folder adopt that view, right? They do, but not if you drag one to the desktop, at that point the Toolbar/Sidebar magically reappears. It also reappears if you navigate to the same folder via Dock's cascading menu system (assuming you've placed a hard drive or folder there). Another 10.4 oddity...if you have Finder set to open at the top level "Computer" when activated from it's Dock icon, it would never remember icon size and position. Sometimes even forgetting window size/position (at least my install of 10.4 did this). On and on....life with the forgetful, stubborn OSX Finder.
However, 10.5 is fantastic at remembering folder view settings. Only thing is, that's not turned on by default. Instead, the default behavior is for folders to adopt the previous folder view setting. This is actually not a bad thing if you prefer to use the browser style navigation the Finder offers. You alter a view setting, list view for example, browse a while, then change it to icon, continue browsing, etc, etc... Thats 10.5's default behavior. To make a specific folder remember a view state, all you have to do is set the view you want, open the Show View Options and check the Always Open In... check box. Now, it will very dependably remember it's view state.
Personally, I've always had my own ideas about how the Finder should behave, and have suggested them to Apple. I've always thought there should be a separate Finder/Browser app that boots up from the Dock Finder icon. It always opens with the Toolbar/Sidebar on (ie: all folders are navigated to via a single browser window). You set it to some browser friendly view (ie: list, column), and it retains that view state as you browse no matter what view settings you may have set for an individual folder. That's the Finder/Browser. To see unique pre-folder view settings, you open the hard drive icon from the Desktop. It opens with the Toolbar/Sidebar off (ie: all folders open in new windows). You could consider this to not even being the "Finder application". Just think of it as "manually looking at the contents of the hard drive". As you drill down, opening new windows, you can create view states which are always remembered when opened via double click the hard drive from the Desktop.
I attempted to created this behavior in 10.4, but the Finder was just forgetful enough, and stubborn enough, not to cooperate fully (see explanations above). However, in 10.5 it works beautifully. I first set the Finder Preferences to open "Computer", opened the Finder via the Dock icon and set it to Column view. From re-boot to re-boot, this set up is remembered exactly, even the window size and position. This is great for browser navigation.
For "manually exploring" (or as some referred to as "spatial"), you must first tell every window on your hard drive to "Always Open In...." whatever you want you default state to be (other wise it will just open in the state in whatever the most resent folder was opened in). I created a script for this with the settings as...Toolbar/Sidebar off & icon view. I then ran the script on the entire drive, and all sub-folders. Over time, I've changed the settings of folders I want to open differently (mainly list as apposed to icon), making sure I open the View Options and rechecking "Always open in..." to whatever adjustment I made. My drive is in great order now and remembers every view detail. Any windows I don't mess with default to a completely predictable "Icon View".
So 10.5 gives me the best of both worlds. Very reliable spatial (ie: old fashion manually opening window after window....handy for dragging files around the hard drive), and super streamlined browsing...good for navigating to and opening files quickly.
My 3 cents...sorry for the long post.

The programme keeps ‘not responding’ and I am unable to view options as the programme keeps freezing.
I am unable to use Firefox on many sites as it keeps not responding. Every time I click tools and then options the programme freezes. I have tried starting in safe mode still did not work I have re-installed Firefox and that has not worked. I have not used ‘Explorer’ for at least 10 years but I may have to change soon as I am unable to work with Firefox at present.

Spent about 4 hours yesterday trying to figure out why bookmarks is behaving so poorly with such a slow response. The response time is directly related to the number of bookmarks in each folder. It takes 8 seconds to process a bookmark. The 8 seconds occur between an sqlite shm unlock and the next sqlite lock.
At the start, the first and 3rd systems were behaving OK, the 2nd system was responding poorly. Did all the usual basic, restarted FF, rebooted system, etc.
THEEEENNNNN--the 3rd system started acting up. Tried tracing, etc. -- didn't see anything specific. Messed around with systems 2 and 3 and ,THEEENNNN, the both started working OK!
'''And about a minute later, the first system crapped out! '''
Screwed around another 1/2 hour and THEEEENNNN, all 3 systems started working OK. Cannot recreate the problem and I don't have a clue as to what I did to correct the problem!
All 3 systems are on the same internal network--192.168...... This leads me to believe that there is some kind of cross communications between systems. I do have Sync turned off, so I don't think that's the problem. But what.....????

  • OS X 10.8 cant remember the View Options in Finder

so that's not the only problem that i got after the uprade but it's really annoying that every time i move files, like from downloads to pictures, the pictures folder's view options are messed up and shows that "Sort by: none" thing
p.s. sorry for broken english i'm trying as hard as i can

OK, so here we go:  Go to Finder, Preferences, Sidebar, and click those folders that you want to show in the left panel of the Finder.  When all the folders you want are in the Sidebar, close Finder Preferences.
The sort feature in Finder is not Global, so you need to sort   Folders you want to view in the order you need them.

  • Year/Annual planning/view option in iCal

I would like to find a way to print a Year/Annual planning/view option in iCal, but I could not figure out a way to do it.
Does anybody knows how to do do it?
If it is not possible, can anyone recommend a script/plugin to achieve it? Or another software that can import iCal calendars and then print Year/Annual planning/view?
    Thanks,
    Anselmo

Me too! Please please someone reply to this request! This is a vital option that needs to be made available as a view AND print option.
Some small improvements to the print dialogo window would also be appreciated:
I think it would be more efficient if the calendars/subscriptions to print were all OFF by default: I would imagine it is more often the times you are printing a selected calendar, rather than all of them together.
The frame containing the calendars also needs to be expandable making them all visible at a glance. Scrolling through lists in a dialog is a no-no (or for Windoze).
Thanks for any help on this.

  • How can I turn on the Compatibility View Option?

In viewing a vendor's online reporting, I noticed that the report's header appears on the right, while the report's content appear on the left, creating a confusing viewing.
The vendor has recommended that I turn on the Compatibility View Option, but I cannot find this option anywhere.
Would someone direct me to the section where I can turn on the Compatibility View Option?

  • View option in bi publisher 11g

    Hey,
There is a bi publisher report embedded in obiee dashboard page. There are several view options in the report. When we try to view the report as excel or rtf it gives a pop up to either open or save.It acts more or less same as Export to Excel/rtf option.
Is there any option to make them viewable in the same window .Is this a tool limitation?.
Kindly reply if you faced the same issue
    Regards,
    Ishwarya.

    as far as i know
in 11g from 11.1.1.6 you can hide the entire parameter section not the single parameters which needed check this link
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E25178_01/bi.1111/e22257/whatsnew.htm#CHDCDBCA
New report viewer action button to show or hide parameters
This release adds an action button to the report viewer to enable users to hide or show the parameter region. This enhancement complements the new parameter display options. When report parameters are configured to display as a dialog or in a separate full page, the parameter display region is dismissed when the viewer displays the report. Use the Parameters button to redisplay the parameter region to make new selections.

How do you remove a web site from popular list?
If you mean from the Safari menubar item "Popular"
Choose "Show All Bookmarks" from the Bookmark menu in the main menubar, or click the icon for that in Safari's menubar -
The page that opens should show a list of Bookmarks. In the Left column, click the item under Collections named Bookmarks Bar.
In the new view, locate the folder named Popular and click the reveal triagle to the left of its name - it will open and reveal all the items listed in Popular.
Find the one you want to remove, click it once to select it, then press the Delete key on the keyboard.

  • Whenever I drag photos from safari to my desktop, it keeps on auto-arranging them. I've tried checking the arrange to none view option but it doesn't seem to work. HELP, PLEASE?

I just want them to stay exactly where I dragged them on my desktop. Can anyone help me on this. It's starting to get really frustrating.

Can't find the "sort by" option. I've tried the view options and clicked "none" in arranged by section as I've seen in forums, but still doesn't work.

  • Feature Request - Please allow for a "classic" view option.

Please allow for a "classic" view option like you have in Mail.  Miss the sidebar that had a list of all the calendars using.  The pop up list is not nearly as functional.  iCal in Lion may be great for touch screen users but is a step back on the intuitive scale for Mac users.
Also, the delete / revert button are too close to the done button.  Too easy to hit on accident.

This is a good feature request and should be submitted here: Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
The team reviews all the requests that come in through that form. It is a guaranteed way to get your request seen while we do not always see everything that gets posted to the forums.

I understand you are on 11.1.1.3.
However, this is documented in the Known Issues section of the Smart View 11.1.2.1 readme and could be worth a try:
When you try to open a Planning web form in Smart View through Workspace, you may get this error: “Web launch operation has been cancelled.” This happens if Essbase has not been added as a server in Shared Connections. Workaround: Open the Smart View Panel in Smart View and add an Essbase server as described in the online help or "Adding Essbase Servers" in chapter 2 of the Smart View User's Guide.

  • View options in iTunes

Under view options, I would like to sort albums by year and descending. This 'descending' option was in earlier versions if iTunes. How can we sort the albums where the new content appears on the top of the list?

    Hi,
In song view you can sort a number of field by either ascending or descending order.
You can select year, click on heading, this changes to descending order, click again to get ascending.
Is this what your looking for?

  • Is it possible for Apple to add "key" to the view options selection?

Is it possible for Apple to add "key" to the view options selection?

DJ1970,  Unfortunately no.  iTunes does not have the key in the database.
People who want to know the key of a song can use (unless they already have perfect pitch!) key detection software such as Mixmeister.
Once you know the key, iTunes does not even have a field to store it, although you could stick it into Comments or some other unused text field such as Grouping.  These fields are indeed viewable in iTunes.

  • Change view options for a single folder

I use the Finder exclusively in "column view".
I have a folder that contains some huge (> 1 GB) .tiff files. If I navigate to one of these files, the Finder tries to generate a preview image, but this typically takes more than a minute. I want to turn off the "Show preview column" for this folder (but only for this folder). Under Finder>View>View options I can hide the preview column, but this change applies to my entire file tree. I can't find a way to restrict the change to a single folder.
Note - if you work in "list view", the view options menu gives you a choice of making changes to "this window only" or "all windows". Not so in column view.

Probably the best option is to put that folder in list view. When you navigate to the folder containing that folder in your normal Column view, you can hold down the Command key and double click the folder. It will then open in a new window and display in List view. If you use this folder frequently, drag it to the Dock, when you select it from there it will open in List view. I have a number of things that I prefer to open in List or Icon view, rather than my usual Column view, but don't want to clutter up my Dock, so I keep aliases to some of them on my Desktop, and some in my home folder (depending on how often I access them). The ones on the Desktop open in the preferred form with a double click, the ones in my home folder open the way I want with a Command double click.
