View photos on my ipad

I have an Apple server at my house and have set up iTunes to share music, video and photos.    I'm able to view and hear the music and video just fine, but I'd like to be able to view the photos that are on the server from my iPad or iPhone or even another Mac (or PC for that matter).
I've been searching all over and am inundated with information either barely related or not related at all.
Any help would be great.

Unfortunately, given Apple's track record for lack of support of ideas like this for home or office system (IntraNet, I think they are going to focus more on iCloud routing then home sharing.
One example of lack of support for Intranet things is Apple's server.  Software Update is part of the server software, but unless you do a managed classroom style setup, you had to go to 3rd party software to point your Macs to your home/office server for updates.
Apple is fairly new to the "Home Sharing" idea, beyond simple filesharing and now with iCloud, I really don't see them expanding the home sharing much.
Just to be clear, Apple Software Update on the server would allow the server to download all the updates and then local Macs would just get the updates from your local server.   Download once, distribute many.   Much faster.  Yes, there are work arounds, but why wasn't there a simple checkbox and entry box in the software update preference pane?
I'd bet that someone in the 3rd party world will come up with something to do this.  iPad App that accepts any stream from iTunes (like the AppleTV).

  • How can I view photos on the iPad in order of the name of the photo instead of the date the photo has been taken

On the PC I edited the "file"names of photos in a photo-album, so that the photos are in a logical order after the file names. When I synchronise this photos with the iPad, they are shown on the iPad in the chronological order when the photo has been taken.
How can I pursue the iPad to show the photos in the order of the "file"names of the photos instead of the order after the date of the photo?

    hello Allan
Thanks for the answer. Wouldn't it be a nice feature on the iPad if you can choose on the iPad itself in which order the photos should be sorted -> for instance after capture date, after filename or after sorting in iPhoto
Maybe this will be a feature for the next iOS release

No, but you do need either the iPad/HDMI adapter OR an AppleTV so you can Airplay/stream to your tv

  • Viewing transferred photos on my Ipad

    Hi all,
I wonder if you can help, i am a new ipad user but have had an iphone for a few years.
I am trying to transfer and use photos on my ipad that i have transferred from my PC. I am sure it is simple but i can't make it work.
In the frist instance i am trying to e-mail myself just one photo and save it somewhere. It is giving me the option to save the image but it doesn't show in the camera roll like it always did on my iphone. Does it goes somewhere diffrerent with the new IOS 7 as it doesn't appear in my camera roll on my iphone anymore?? i have tried tunring both devices on and off and closing all open apps to see if that helps and it doesn't.
secondly, i am trying to use an app like google drive to transfer lots of photos. Again I have managed to transfer one photo into my google drive and i can view it on my ipad but when i try and open it, it tells me that i don't have an app which i can open it in. As it is a photo shouldn't i just be able to open it in my camera roll. If not what app can i get which means i can open photos?
Ultimatly, i want to achieve being able to transfer photos from my PC onto my ipad and be able to upload them to places like photobox, truprint or bob books (once they release there app). It can't be as impossible as I am finding it.
Any help would be much appreciated as i am getting very frustrated!
    Thanks

  • Can't view photos or stream videos from websites on iPad 3

When I go to a website with safari, I can't stream video or view photo galleries.  It tells me that I need adobo flash player.  That is not supported for this device.  How do I see photoographs or stream video from websites??

Jenpre.... keep your head down in that hurricane, and good luck. I hope it moves away soon for you all.
When I say "more modern", from what I've read many sites recognise that Flash can be a problem on mobile devices (phones and tablets) because it's very power hungry. So, if I understand things correctly, many sites are putting up html5 versions, which is supposed to be much easier on computers / devices. Quite oftne when I go to a site on my iPad it auto-diverts to the "mobile" version of the site, and I haven't found a single case where I can't see a video. To be truthful, even if not directed to a mobile version, I don't have much trouble with any of the sites I visit..... I can see most videos and pretty much all graphics, the same as I can on my Mac, which does run Flash.
Still, I'm sure a computing expert will know much more.
    Good luck in that hurricane....
PS... there are quite a few good hurricane tracking Apps you know....

  • HT201317 When I view photos on my devices some are not oriented correctly. I used Picassa to turn all photos upright and then copied those photos into the upload file but they are still not corrected when viewed on my devices (ipads)

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
    1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
    2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
    1. Right click images you want to share.
    2. Select Export version.
    3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
    4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
    See how you go.

  • Viewing full photo stream on iPad

Is there any way of viewing photos from your photo stream on my iPad that are outwith the last 1000 taken. I am abroad and don't have access to my laptop with the photo stream file? Thanks

Did you check to see how many photos are currently in Photo Stream on www.icloud.com?  It's possible that the 30 day restriction has caused all but 127 photos to be removed from Photo Stream.  My understanding is that the additional photos will remain in the Photo Stream album on your device (such as the 295 photos on your phone), however until your turn off Photo Stream as you did on your iPad.  At that point only the currently available photos would be streamed back to your iPad when Photo Stream is turned back on.

  • Can the IPAD be used as a monitor to view photos from Camera?

I do a lot of underwater photos and video.  I would like to use use the IPAD to review the days shoot while on the boat, in the hotel or on the plane.  I would rather not download all of the photos to the IPAD--although I do have the Lightning to SD card.  Is there any way to simply view photos and videos from my camera or the SD card without downloading?  You can do that on a TV--why not on an IPAD?

I believe you can do that.  When you first plug in the SD card using the Camera Connection Kit, I believe you will see on the iPad all the photos on that SD card.  You will have an option to import them, or a selected subset of photos.  Just stop there and don't do the import.  Would that solve your problem?

    Thanks for your thoughts.
Maybe I'm old-school, but I like the idea of a physical archive device that I can use with secured access.  There is so much info on everyone on the net.  The idea of having even more personal data in the cloud is not appealing.
I can load data from my PC on the drive, but it's not accessible on my iPad.  The same is true for viewing my uploaded photos from the iPad. They are not recognizable on my laptop.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Must have to transfer photos to the ipad in order to view them?  Or can I view them externally?

I would like to view photos externally from something such as an SD card, rather than first transferring them to the Ipad.  Is this possible?

There is a camera connection kit which has an SD card reader for copying photos to the iPad, but that will only show the thumbnails of the photos on the card, you need to select and copy them to the iPad before you can see them full-screen.
And if you are copying the photos onto the SD card from your computer (as opposed to it coming direct from a camera) then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them

  • HT201302 When I travel with my SLR I like to transfer all photos to the iPad so that they are more easily edited and viewed by others, using the camera kit.  Occasionally I would like to export photos - I have not found a way to do this.  Can you help?

I occasionally have the need to export photos from the iPad to an SD card (photos that were imported using the camera kit). This is useful for e.g. to print photos while travelling.  So far I have not found this functionality anywhere, including in any apps available on iTunes.  Can anyone help?

The camera connection kit can only be used to import photo/video files from a camera, SD card or USB flash drive. You can't import other types of files. You can't export any type of files using the camera connection kit.

  • HT201077 How to view Photo share comments on iPad

How can I view photo stream comments similar to those on the iPhone?

As far as I know the soft key icons hides when you watch a video but the "list" at the bottom is still there. It might be different in 3rd party photo/video players. So check Google Play for alternatives.
