View Photos over Network

I'd like to view photos on an HDTV with good quality at 1920x1080.  Can anyone help me implement the following idea?
I have a desktop and laptop both running Vista and PSE 5 and they are connected over a wired network.  The HDTV is connected to the laptop as a second monitor. About 15000 photos are on the desktop and cataloged in the Organizer.
I would like to open selected (using tags, collections, etc.) photos on the laptop running PSE using "View Photos in Full Screen" so I can zoom and move around the photos on the HDTV.
Is there a way to have the PSE catalog on the laptop "look" for photos on a mapped network drive that is on the desktop?
Obviously, the procedure cannot alter the catalog on the desktop so I don't lose photos, tags, etc.
I have used a similar, but piecemeal, procedure where I exported, say, all photos in a collection to the laptop.  I then showed the photos on the HDTV using "View Photos in Full Screen" and it has better image quality than a slide show plus I am able to zoom, etc.  I am not concerned with the "production" qualities, such as music, slide transitions, etc.  But I would like to be able to do this for all 15000 photos over my network without copying.
Can you forsee any performance bottlenecks like network speed, laptop RAM/CPU, VGA vs. HDMI connection to the HDTV, etc.
Any ideas?

Hi Jeffree,
does this happen on both computers?
Unfortunately, several posters to these discussions have had that problem and so far I can't find any definite answers or rhyme or reason to it.
You can try rebuilding both the libraries.
You can try just sharing some of the albums instead of the entire library.
I have an iMac with 512 memory and iBook with 640.
They are wirelessly networked with a older NetGear router. I can share just fine with both computers, so I don't think it is a memory problem.
Could it be a signal problem? How far are the computers from each other when sharing?

  • Share Aperture photos over network

    Hallo every body,
iam searching for a solution, how to share photo over network for a long time, in our company we have 40 macs(imac, mac bookpro) and 3 xserve, vtrak and 30pc. and we have round about 30000 pic they are saved in iphoto library on one of the xserve.
My Boss wants from me to find a solution to share these photos over network. the mac users must use iphoto to access these photos.
which program shall i install on the server so that the client users can access the photos from there macs through iphoto.
at the beginning i used the share library option in iphoto, until iphoto 9.1.1. By iphoto 9.1.1 on the client when i click on the shared library my searching field disappears and i cant search in the shared photos.
I thought Aperture is the solution, so i shared the aperture library over the network (with afp protocoll) but in order to access the network aperture library, first i need to install aperture on the client and then i open iphoto and from iphoto option i can choose the option access aperture library.
how can i solve it without to install aperture on the client, is there any iphoto plugin so that i can access aperture library without installing aperture
or is there somebody uses another solution???
    please help
    best regards
    Tony

Neither iPhoto nor Aperture is the solution for this.
The idea of using iphoto on the client machines is wrong, it's just not designed for that use. Iphoto is designed for a family with a point and shoot camera, or even a phone. Aperture is a pro level photomanager. Installing Aperture on all the mchines means you will have to purchase the app for all the machine, you need a site licence.
Also, it won't work anyway. You can't share an Aperture Library like an iPhoto one an only one user can access the Library at a time. So, one of the users acesses the Library and all the others are locked out.
Neither are what you need: you need a media server application. A pro level media server. Tell your boss he's fooling himself if he thinks anything else will work reliably.

  • Send selected photos over network to MacAir iPhoto Library?

Could someone provide me with the procedure for copying selected photos in my iPhoto library (on iMac) to my iPhoto library (on Macbook Air)?
Both Macs share the same wireless network.
Basically, I require an education on sharing files over a network. But filling in the missing photos that are missing on my MacbookAir is my most pressing concern...

It depends on what you want to move, exactly.
    1. Just the snap. Then export it from iPhoto on the iMac, and import it to the Library on the MBA
    2. All the versions, metatdata etc: Then you'll need to use iPhoto Library Manager

  • Can not view video over the Internet on WVC80N

I set up the web cam, set up the port forward etc so now I am able to:
       1. view/change web cam settings inside my home network.
       2. view video inside my home network.
       3. view/change web cam settings over the Internet.
But I am not able to view video over Internet. Every time I did so (using IE browser), after clicking the view video button, I got an error : There are too many user connections or the device is busy, please try again latter.
Anyone has a fix on this? I set up port forwarding on port 1024 (that's how I can chage settings over Internet).
I spent 2 hours on the phone with Linksys tech support but they could not find the reason.
    Thanks,
    Sam

Who is your ISP? How you are trying to access your Camera from the remote location? Along with Port 1024 you need to do port forwarding for port 80 on your router for the Cameras IP address. As WVC80N works on your HTTP Port.
To access your camera from the Remote location, you need to use http://wan ip:80.

  • Trouble viewing photos

I am struggling saving and viewing photos on my Bold 9900. Having trouble since I bought the phone.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No no...not "Camera", but "Camera Pictures"...
Homescreen > Media > Pictures > Camera Pictures
That should show a list or thumbnails (depending on your settings) of all images taken with your BB camera. There is no use of the  whatsoever in that sequence.
From what you describe, what you have now done is basically no different than launching the camera first...I am attempting to send you a different direction to find out if your pictures exist at all. As you know, there are multiple methods to access the locations where things are stored on the BB...I am attempting to get you to try those other methods, to check and be certain.
    There is also:
    Homescreen > Media >  > Explore
with which you would navigate through your whole Device Memory (since, as you say, you have no Media Card) to see if you can find where pictures are being stored.
There is also using Mass Storage Mode to explore your Device Memory via your computer.
Again, I'm trying to get you to use methods other than what you've already tried -- so that we can figure out where your pictures are being stored...but, using the same method over and over again would not, I would think, be expected to yield different results...hence using different means.

  • Cannot view photos in the stream on iPhone 6 but can with my other 4 iOS devices

I just purchased an iPhone 6 and the setup  smooth but one thing..photo stream.  I can take pictures and they go in the stream and I can view from my other iOS devices but I cannot view photos taken with other devices on the iPhone 6. All use the same iCloud ID.

    Hi JinnaWinkas,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try these steps first if the Photo Stream on one of your PCs is not updating:
you can't connect to the Internet, iCloud Photos will not be able to send or receive updates to My Photo Stream. If necessary, troubleshoot your Internet connection on your PC, Mac, or iOS devices.
Open the iCloud Control Panel and make sure that you're signed in to the same iCloud account that you're using on your other supported devices.
In Windows 8.1, go to the Start screen, click the down arrow in the lower-left corner, then click the iCloud app.
In Windows 8, go to the Start screen, and click the iCloud tile.
In Windows 7, choose Start menu > All Programs > iCloud > iCloud.
Make sure that iCloud Photos or Photo Stream is turned on in the iCloud Control Panel. Click the Options button and make sure that My Photo Stream is turned on.
Close and reopen the iCloud Control Panel.
Restart your computer. This may sound simple, but it does reinitialize your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.

  • How do I view photos in alphabetical order?

How do I view photos in alphabetical order? I have a little over 65,000 photos and I have them ordered alphabetically, first by folder, then by photo. I would like to view them in this way with the new Photos App but do not see an option to do so.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks

Sort options are very limited in this 1.0. version of Photos. In some views you can change it (in the View menu) from By Date, to By Title, but that's about it. Definitely an area where more features need to be added...
You can request features, point out bugs, etc, at Apple Feedback pages:
      http://www.apple.com/feedback/
    Or directly for Photos:

  • Streaming Music needs to reconnect each time after viewing photos

    Hi
I have 200Gb of music, so I stream this to my TV. Photos are obviously sync'd. However, to get to my photos, I have to go to the source menu, and choose TV (Since "Shauns Music" menu only says Movies, TVShows, Music, Podcasts, Settings and Sources. So I play
When I go back to Music, the connection is lost and I have to reconnect - i.e. I get "Loading Shauns Music". This takes 1 minute 15 seconds, which admittedly isn't that long, but when you have to waut every time you view photos and play music, it seems pretty unpleasant.
My iTunes and my TV are never off - isn't there some way I can "fix" the streaming connection?
    Shaun

I don't think it's an issue of the IP address. I think the behavior that is taking a long time is that it seems to be reading in the entire directory of your library in order to make subsequent browsing fast.
As annoying as the wait is, at least once it's over, it's very fast. You can scroll down an extremely long list of every song or artist and it accelerates faster and faster until you release the remote button at which point it nicely decelerates and stops.
I have a receiver that attaches an iPod directly with a special cable letting me scroll through its contents and select items via remote. At every selection point, there was a pause for it to load the next level. It couldn't scroll more than a few items before having to pause to reload. Now that was annoying.
It would certainly be nice if the Apple TV were smart enough to cache a library's contents, only re-loading if it's been changed, enabling a quick switch. Maybe they'll do that in the future?

  • Sharing Photos across Network - Features Of

    Hi
I want to share my Library across the network with other users. I also want them to be able to copy and paste my pictures or atleast save them and also to be able to Search them.
I've tried this with 2 machines running iPhoto 5.04 and also 2 running 6.0.2 but I can't copy and paste unless I move the image from the Shared Album to the local Library and I can't search the Shared Library at all as it's greyed out.
Anyone know if it's possible to do a Search on a Shared Library and how? (wherher apple supported or not)
    Thanks Matt
    Macs o Plenty   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Okay. I think I have the solution. As I read it, you have two issues. First, you need to be able to share. Second, you want to copy photos from one computer to the other.
    1. Go under the preferences section of iPhoto (under sharing) on the computer you want to share from and select "Share my photos". Make sure that you have either selected "Share Entire Library" or checked certain albums if you chose "Share Selected Albums." If you don't pick any albums with that option, nothing will show up on the other/destination computer.
On the other computer, go to the preferences section of iPhoto (under sharing) and make sure the option to "Look for shared photos" is selected. If so, you should see the library from the sharing computer show up in your album list. You should now be able to browse all of the libraries on the sharing computer (or at least the ones you selected, if you did not choose to share all of them).
    2. To copy photos over to the library of the other computer (the one that is accessing the shared library of the first computer), select the photos that you want to add and drag them over to your library folder. iPhoto will start importing them for you.
That should take care of it. Let me know if it does not. You would not normally need to open any ports on your router as long as both computers are on the same network.
One more thing, if you want password protection, make sure to put a password under the sharing preferences for the computer you are sharing from.

  • What are the options for viewing photos with Apple TV 2?

I have an old Apple TV, and load the family photos on the Apple TV itself. On the Apple TV 2, I know you can connect to MobileMe and Flickr.
Aside from MobileMe and Flickr, are there other options for viewing photos on the new Apple TV? Can you stream them from a Mac, or can you stream them from an iPhone/iPad?
If so, how is this initiated from the Apple TV, Mac, or iPhone/iPad?

You can stream from a Mac via itunes selection (iPhoto events or a folder) - it has 8GB of solid state temporary storage, but quite how things are cached/flushed from here is a bit of a mystery - you cannot say designate 2GB to hold photos or prioritise photos over other material.
Even rentals seem to flush if you've watched them and they haven't expired - relative fell asleep during a rental yesterday so i suggested she watched it today and it downloaded from scratch again, and the AppleTV hadn't had anything but music playing in the interim. Silly this really. There's a post on another section where someone used 17GB of their data allowance to watch a HD movie as it kept reloading!
Yes you can stream photos from iPod/iPad using Airplay, but to be honest i don't think ATV2 offers that much over ATV1 for photos (yet anyway), and in some ways it's inferior.
ATV2 is far more responsive/uses less power etc but I'm not convinced you get anything groundbeaking unless you have a lot of guests who could use it via Airplay from their iphones (and with ipads currently without cameras, photos would have to come from somewhere else in the first place).

  • Copy files over network and preserve original date modified/created

This problem originally cropped up when importing photos into iphoto. I copied all my pics across the network and stored them locally then imported them into iPhoto. Problem was, any pics that did not have EXIF data were sorted by iPhoto, by date created...which was the date they were copied to the Mac.
I got around that by trashing the iPhoto Library, then importing the photos over the network. The dates on the pics were correct on the Windows machine till the copy process changed them.
is there a way to copy across the network and keep all the file attributes as they are on the original..An archive type feature.
I had thought of RsyncX, but have not used that yet from within the Mac.
Is there a way from within Finder to copy and keep attributes? or a third party app?
    Neil

zip the folder with your pictures (control-click on it and choose "compress folder"), copy the zip files to the remote computer and unzip it there. this will preserve the modified and created dates.

  • Problem viewing photos on Facebook app

For some reason I am unable to view photos on SOME of my friends on the Facebook app. When you go to the 'photos of....' tab it says there is a problem connecting with Facebook. But when you go to another 'folder' on the same profile, you can view all of the pictures in that particular folder with no problems. Also in ANY folder I am having a problem looking at pictures over the number of about 24 or 25. It says "more pictures", and when you touch the highlight, it acts like it is loading them, then just stops.

I did once. I had a strange problem happen once where it would leave some of the pages blank where you could see your friends statuses and new photos, without having to go into their profile. The problem started before I did the recent itouch update, but has grown in the number of profiles afterwards. But I have not reinstalled it after I did the update I bought. Could that be it?

  • Any wat to display artwork over network?

I thought that iTunes was not able to do this but saw a post from someone who said that this is automatic. For my setup (standard router network with all computers allowing sharing of all contents of library) when a shared song is selected the art box shows 'Album Artwork Not Modifyable' and the view options 'List with Cover' and 'Cover Browser' are greyed out. If I look at 'get info' on an individual song "lyrics" and "Artwork" are greyed out as selections.
Anyway, is there any way to display artwork for shared music? Some obscure setting I have missed? Any help appreciated.
    -Bob

I sort of answered my own quetion - artwork for shared music that is actually playing is displayed by clicking on the triangle in the bar above artwork box, but arwork is not shown for music that is simply selected. This is likely due to increased bandwidth of need to transfer images over network; may well disappear as higher-bandwidth home networks become more common. I hope this helps someone.
