View pics as thumbnails in finder?

Hi i only migrated to mac about less then 2months ago, and im wondering is it possible to view photos as thumbnails when going through folders, as apposed to looking at them through iphoto? Its just that this would make it a lot easier to go through a folder where i have photos, any help please?

If you are using the icon view, going to View > Show View Options and checking "Show Icon Preview" will change the icon to a preview thumbnail, and column view will also show a preview image in the Finder window.

  • .mp4 and .avi video thumbnails in finder view

Hi, Some of my .mp4 and .avi video files have a thumbnail in finder view and some don't... Does anyone know how I can solve this?

Maybe, but maybe not. I use DigitalMedia Converter to convert to DV-AVI Type II's (I'm only doing SD), and it has a Split function. However, I have never used that, so do not know how well it might work for your needs, if at all. I just do not know. I believe that Deskshare has a user forum, and that might be a good place to try, after you've looked down their FAQ's.
I hope that others will have a definitive answer for you, with iron-clad suggestions.

  • Question about thumbnails in Finder

A nice way of assigning custom thumbnails to items in Finder is by bringing up the Get Info panel of a given item, and pasting a copied image (either from the web or an image viewer) to the thumbnail editor in the top left corner.
However, something I've noticed is Finder's inconsistency with resolution. If I'm lucky, the thumbnail will retain the resolution of the copied image, so that no matter what size I readjust the items in a Finder window, the thumbnail will stay crisp. But a lot of the time, and sometimes as soon as the image has copied, Finder seems to decrease the resolution. A way of checking is to copy the thumbnail back from the Get Info panel and paste it into an image viewer. Lo and behold, the image is lower res.
Does anyone know if there is any way to control this and maintain high res thumbnails?
    Thanks very much.

Hi, what format are the Pastes o begin with?
    I think Finder/OSX prefers PNGs.

  • Viewing Nikon D300 images in finder

Hi, Is there anyone out there using Nikon D300 with Mac Book Pro under OSX 10.5.1?
Can you see the thumbnails? Can you see the NEF, TIFF, or PSD files in Finder?
How do you view your photos?
In Finder, if you click on one single pictures, does it close down your external drive and put you back in a clean desktop?
Is there a fix? Is there a work around?
    Please help.
Yes: it works find in LR and PS, but what about Finder and iphoto / email?

The issue should only occur if you shoot raw. Currently OS X can only display/read certain RAW camera formats. These are OS level, meaning iPhoto, Preview, Mail, Aperture and others are effected. However adobe products are different because they use Adobe Camera RAW.
I would expect JPEGs TIFFs and PSDs, both thumbnails and files, to view fine. RAW files will not view from the D300, but the D200 is supported.
There is no way of knowing when support for the (not-so-)new files will be available. Rumor has it it will be 10.5.2, but only Apple knows that. You can head on over to the Aperture forum and read to see if some have work-arounds.

  • Bigger thumbnails in Finder

Is there a way to make all the thumbnails bigger in the Finder view without using QuickLook?

Finder->View->View Options. You can make the icon sizes larger, though not nearly so large and legible as with QuickLook.

You can only view the thumbnail sized pics. You have to import to view full size.

  • No thumbnails in finder/preview after exporting files as dng out of lightroom?

Does anyone have experience sorting out the issue of no thumbnails in finder/preview after exporting files as dng out of lightroom?
There are several conversations in the forum about this problem, but cant seem to find a solution.
Anyone know how to sort this out?

    Thanks for your reply.
Mac does support previewing dngs in finder and preview. This has not been a problem before (besides when using my fujufilm compact camera, which mac now has updated the Apple camera for).
To answer your Q about dng files. Thats exactly what i do. I have work which involves communicating/transfering multiple lr -edited files to someone else whom further edits in ps. Not only that, I personally use dng as a way of storing my files. I suppose like to keep my files tidy and uniform.
Any mac users out there who has a a solution to my issue with previewing dngs?

Is your system up to date? Your profile says 10.5.2. You need at least 10.5.6 for Pages.
Download the 10.5.8 Combo update and install it. _[Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update|http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=answerlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsuppo rt.apple.com%2Fkb%2FDL866&answerid=16777216&src=supportsite.downloads.search]

trying to view pics on a cd, insert cd and I am given a message of "blank dvd"  The pics were downloaded by a professional photographer

Request the professional photographer burn the CD in ISO-9660.  Joliet, UDF formats are not supported as well as ISO-9660.  If he does not know those formats, he should give you a USB Flash drive with the photos.
There are other reasons why a CD might not work, explained here:

Um, because the camera connection kit is not a viewer, but rather permits downloading pictures from a SD card directly to your iPad.

  • Items "date modified" column when viewing files as list in finder

I'm not really sure if I can change this viewing option, but i will give it a try:
when viewing files as list in finder, "yesterday" items "date modified" column shows up with the term "yesterday", while this does not happen for "today" items, where what shows up is just today's date and not the term "today".
I found this rather confusing, since it is not immediate: i.e. if I want to check for items modified today at a glance, i need to pick today's date from a ist with a number of different dates. As a matter of fact, it's a way easier when checking for yesterday's items.
    Suggestions anyone?
    Thanks!

toygal -- welcome to the Aperture user-to-user forum. iPhoto was designed with you in mind. Aperture is 100x more complicated (and no faster). I strongly recommend that you revert to iPhoto and use it. Compared to Aperture, it will bring you more pleasure and cause you much less frustration. Whoever told you that Aperture is faster not only was wrong, they failed to take into consideration the hours that you would have to practice to become comfortable with it.
Here are some threads which briefly touch on the difference between iPhoto and Aperture -- use the search to find many more.

(have the newest apple camera update, using canon mark ii, 17-35 mm if that can have anything to with it)

Last August Eric Chan, head RAW engineer, said that OSX does not support previews for particular cameras' DNGs.  The next reply was that OSX didn't support DNG previews for cameras that embed lens corrections in their RAW files.

There may be a QT plug-in for DNGs but I'm not a Mac guy so am not sure if it is universal:
