"View Proof Colors" toggle wrong way round in PS12.02

The toggle and the display visualisation it controls appear not to be in sync.
I can post images if people cannot reproduce this apparent bug which I noticed with a LAB file.

  • Smart quotes sometimes wrong way round after a question mark or comma

I'm finding that Pages frequently puts the direction of the final smart quote in a piece of dialogue the wrong way round.  I use a single speech mark (apostrophe) at start and finish of speech.  This seems to happen most after a question mark or comma.  Anyone know why, or how to fix it?  Doesn't happen in Word!  Thanks.

Which language is your computer set to?
Have you set the system preferences for smart quotes?

  • Photos keep appearing the wrong way round in slideshow!

Photos which I imported from my old macbook (running 10.4) onto my new imac (10.5.8) keep appearing the wrong way round or stretched out when I play them as part of a slideshow even though in the library they appear fine. Can anyone tell me how to fix this please?
    Thanks

Yes the plist file is important, but next time you start iPhoto it will create a brand new one.
This file records various user settings - like the background colour, for instance. If you trash it then when iPhoto re-creates it it simply returns things to the factory default settings.
Trashing the plist file is troubleshooting 101.
Also don't understand what you mean by "If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again"
By default, your iPhoto Library lives in your Pictures Folder. That's where iPhoto looks for it. If you've moved the Library - and I'm guessing you haven't - then you need to tell iphoto where you moved it to. Why? Because that's a setting recorded in the plist file.

  • How differs soft proofing in View - Proof Colors and Save for Web - Preview?

Hi, I'm currently confused with one inconsistency. My working space is Adobe RGB and I use calibrated monitor. After I finish my work on image I go to View -> Proof Colors -> Internet Standard RGB. Image looks terribly with the overall violet/purple hue. Then I open Save for Web dialogue, I check Convert to RGB and from Preview options I select again Internet Standard RGB. Now the previewed image looks as expected. The same results I get if I manually convert image to sRGB before soft proofing and saving for web. So... what's the difference between preview in Proof Colours and in Save for Web? Thank you for your opinions.

Hi 21, thank you for your input. All what you say makes perfect sense, it is exactly how it should work and how I expected it works. My problem was, that while testing this theory in practice, I have come to different results. I expected, that if I stick to the theory (meaning keeping in mind all rules you perfectly described) I should get the same result in both soft proof and save for web preview. But... it was not the case. Save for web preview offered expected results while soft proof was completely out of any assumptions and colours were totally over-saturated with violet/purple hue. Also, Edit -> Assign Profile -> sRGB gave another result then Soft Proof -> Custom -> assign sRGB (preserve numbers), but the same as save for web preview.  What troubled me was why this is so.
Today I've made tests on hardware calibrated monitor and... everything works exactly as you describe and as I expected.
Then I went back to another monitor which is software calibrated (both monitors are calibrated with X-Rite i1 Display Pro). And again... I received strange results described above. So I did the last thing I thought and disabled colour calibration on that monitor. And suddenly... both soft proof and save for web preview gave the same result.
Probable conclusion: soft proof and save for web preview (together with Edit -> Assign Profile) are programmed to use different algorithm which is evident on standard gamut monitors with software calibration. Question can be closed.
Gene and 21, thank you for your effort.

  • Keyboard symbols wrong way round

My " and @ are the wrong way round. When I opened keyboard prefs I had an option to change keyboard so I did it then asked me to press the button next to shift then offered three types, I picked european as thats where I am but still no go. And now the option tot change the keyboard has gone from system prefs entirely.
Its a basic logitech keyboard and the awesomely bad logitech software does not even see the keyboard.
    Any ideas?

Go to system prefs/language & text/input sources and see if there is a box to check for Logitech UK.
Which key do you want the @ to be on exactly? Mac and PC Brtish keyboards are different.

  • HT4111 Logitech K810 UK layout problem with @ and " being the wrong way round.

I have tried this keyboard on Windows 7 devices and they work just fine, but on IOS7, either the first version or the version released today, it remains the wrong way around - i.e. US spec.

    Hi,
I have a problem with the same keyboard when I start up and hold the ALT key you can select a startup disk this is not working by my keyboard when I use a old keyboard I'ts working again do you have that problem also.

  • How to mirror/flip a photo? (were scanned from slides wrong way round)

How to horizontal flip a picture? Some 50 slides were scanned from dias and were scanned wrong way up. so now my pictures are lef-right mirrored.
    Thanks, Mark

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
You can do it in preview (in your applications folder) before you import the scans, by exporting the scans or by setting Preview as the external editor for iPhoto

  • The "@" and the " are the wrong way round? how do I change it

When using the keyboard and press the key for @ you end up with " and visa versa, so you press " you end up with @, anyone know why, this is a new Imac and I an new to Apple.

There are lots of different keyboard layouts depending on which country you are in. For instance, if I am using a US keyboard and I use the Language and Text system preference pane to switch my Input Source to German then I end up with the " when I press the key that has the '@' on it. Other characters also don't match up right.
The first step is to determine which keyboard you physically have, then compare it to the various virtual keyboard layouts available. I suggest opening the Language & Text System Preferences, and enable the Keyboard & Character View option in the Input Sources section. This will add a small icon to the upper right section of your menu bar next to the date/time. The Keyboard Viewer acts like a virtual keyboard which you can then compare to the actual keyboard you are typing on. Verify that the 'Input Sources' information is properly configured for your style keyboard and language. If you somehow ended up with the wrong keyboard then I would give Apple a call.

  • Duplex printing pages are wrong-way round with MacBook snowleopard

Hello, I've just installed a new Laser Jet Pro 1606DN and the automatic duplex printing insists on producing the pages in this order: 2-1, 4-3 That is, to read the document, I will have to manually shift each page so that they are in sequential order.
I have tried saving all combinations of checking and unchecking collate & reverse printing with no result. The "standard" preset has both checked and duplex printing - I don't know how that it got that way.  Any other setting I try to save as a preset reverts back to collate, but I do not know if that is part of the problem or a symtom.  We have: reinstalled the driver 3 times, found that it is the same with pdf and word files, used the diskrepair utility and DiskWarrior, found the same error when we created a new administrator, and finally the hp tech support said it was not their problem and apple tech support said that I will have to reinstall the system. Hp was also scathing about apple macs being "for fun" and "not serious for business."  So far this problem has taken 5 hours of today and we are no closer to understanding the reason or knowing how to fix it.  A colleague has the same system (10.6.3) and printer, and has no problems.
    Thank you!

The driver was updated 1/15/2011 and solves the duplex issue with Snow Leopard (10.6)

  • Palm Pre Pics Rotated Wrong Way 'Round

Some of the pictures on my phone, either taken with my camera or sent from other Pre cameras (I don't know which), rotate vertical when they should be horizontal, and vice-versa.  Is there a way to rotate the picture on the Pre, or is this capability forthcoming?

As for a way to rotate the pictures I have not heard anything about that. The best thing would be to leave feedback at www.palm.com/feedback.
Can you try to find out if this is pictures that you take or if you receive them?

  • Is there a way to turn on Proof Colors and Overprint Preview by default?

I prepare graphics mostly for print, so I like to turn on the Proof Colors view and Overprint Preview views. It's a pain to turn these on for each document. Is there a way to make these the default viewing settings in Illustrator CS6?
I tried creating an action to do it, but the Insert Menu Item command in actions causes Illustrator to crash every time, and the help file seems to say that View commands are unavailable to actions. So I'm not sure if that's a bug. Oddly, Photoshop has the very useful File> Scripts> Script Event Manager that let's me turn on Proof Colors (via an action) whenever a document is opened. It works very well. However, Illustrator does not appear to have these options. I found the View> New View options in Illustrator. They let me create a view that turns on Overprint Preview, but absolutely refuse to turn on Proof Colors. So it's the same number of clicks and pointless. Sheesh!
    Thanks!

Not sure about Proof Colours but you can select Overprint Preview in the New Document dialogue.
    Preview Mode > Overprint.

Try plugging it into a computer with iTunes opened. If you see anything that says restore, say no.
Sometimes these issues resolve themselves when you connect the device to iTunes.
What happens when you hold the home and sleep/wake button? I know it doesn't work, but does it shut off at all?

  • Why don't color values change when using proof colors?

    Hi,
i am very interested in obtaining exact replicas of the image in screen (in ProPhoto) and the image printed (using a suitable printer profile). However when I select Proof Colors from the view menu, the appearance changes but the RGBV or Lab colors remain the same. This is counter intuitive and goes against the well known recomendation to do color correcting using numbers instead of your eyes.
What's happening? Is there a way to accomplish what I want?
    Thanks,
    Juan

    Juan,
please let me tell you my opinion, based on working with i1Pro, ProfileMaker and a couple
    of printers and monitors:
    a) one doesn't calibrate a monitor for a better match of monitor view and print result.
The monitor has to be calibrated for preferred settings, here for 100cd/m² and 6500K.
In my case, calibrated in an almost dark room in order to avoid any flare, the minimal
luminance is about 0.3cd/m², which results in a contrast of about 300. With some ambient
light the actual contrast is probably not as large.
    b) one doesnt calibrate a printer with respect to a monitor. The printer is calibrated by
printing a target and measuring this, followed by profile generation. As a result, a printer
can print color patches with certain Lab values with a measurable accuracy, without any
reference to a monitor. By the way: calibration takes the paper color into account, there-
for one needs for each paper a new profile (as well for different printing modes or diffferent
    black inks and so on).
    What is to do?
You have already i1 Profiler. Each version can profile monitors, but you need a version
which can profile printers as well. In this German doc means Drucker=printer:
    http://www.pdfmarkt.de/index_de,marktcm,15,528,,49.php
It looks as you have a version which can calibrate printers in RGB mode (perhaps i1 Basic Pro2 ).
Then follow the procedures in these docs, mainly the third:
    http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/reviews/profiling/i1_profiler_overview.html
    http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/reviews/profiling/i1_profiler_monitor.html
    http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/reviews/profiling/i1_profiler_rgb_print.html
What means RGB mode? Epson printers, for instance my model 7890, can be calibrated in
RGB mode or in CMYK mode. Of course. the printer prints finally by CMYK inks, but the
targets are defined either by RGB values or by CMYK values.
RGB mode is preferred by photographers (RGB images), CMYK mode accepts as well CMYK
data as generated in PostScript workflows and is used for proofing offset-print-ready PDFs.
An example: technical graphics may contain one or two inks in order to avoid registration
errors. Sending these data to an 'RGB-printer' would result in printing by all inks.
I'm calibrating in CMYK mode. The profile interpretation by Profile Inspector shows CMYK
as device space. Available profiles by others (for common papers) show RGB as device space.
Profile connection space is in either case CIELab.
    How are the viewing conditions?
Probably not by viewing monitor and print side by side. The monitor has 6500K, prints are
to be inspected under 5000K. Thus, a simultaneous adaptation is impossible.
Also, it would be wrong, because the rendering is mostly not Absolute Colorimetric.
For the critical inspection of prints the illuminance should be very bright, 2000lx (lux),
according to ISO.  100cd/m² is roughly equivalent to 300lx (3-hundred).
As a result, one cannot expect a match, but an impression: looks right on the monitor, looks
right on the print. And an offset printing press can be adjusted by matching a proof print.

  • Soft Proofing:  View Proof Setup Custom:  Profile Disappears when Re-opened

    Photoshop CS6 on Mac
Edit an image file and get it to where I like on the monitor
Duplicate the file and set the new file to the profile for the printer which will be used, by using View > Proof Setup > Custom and setting an imported printer profile for the printing company that I use.
As soon as you do that, the file looks like crap, so...
Edit the soft proof file to get it to where it looks good again.
Save off the file for the printer and also save the new PSD file.
    Close the PSD file.
Reopen the new (soft proofed) PSD file.
Still looks good, but.... when you check View > Proof Setup it's now generally set to Custom: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 instead of to the imported printer profile which was set previously.  WHY????  Where did the printer profile go?  Is it supposed to do this?
If I then reset View > Proof Setup to the correct printer profile, the image goes to crap again.
Is this me doing something wrong, or is the PSD file not properly remembering the printer profile, or... what's going on here?
    Thanks much!

None of what you write makes any sense whatsoever to me, sorry.
Let's start by using correct terminology.  For the last time, you are not "importing" any freaking profile.  Wrap your head around that once and for all, please.
Let me try once again, totally disregarding the scenarios you were unsuccessfully attempting to describe above.  Forget all that mumbo jumbo for now, please.
You have not mentioned what your working space is, so let's assume it's Adobe RGB.
You have finished editing an image, so now you have an AdobeRGB-tagged image.  Fine.
Now you want to soft proof it to see what it will look like in that FujiWonderPrinterInAlaskaUsingMatteThaiElephantPoopPaper printer in Anchorage.  (Made up names of course.)
So you make a duplicate COPY of your finished image file named BabyPictForPrint.psd.  You're still in Adobe RGB, of course.  You put the original away in a safe and forget about it—forever.  That's like your negative in film days.
Now you soft proof the BabyPictForPrint.psd COPY by using the infamous FujiWonderPrinterInAlaskaUsingMatteThaiElephantPoopPaper.icc profile the outfit in Alaska sent you.
When you soft proof it with that Alaska profile, you have not imported anything.  Photoshop is simply using the profile you pointed it to to show you in your monitor what it would look like.  Your pixels so far are untouched, yet yo see your image "die" before your very eyes.  Ouch!  Now you need to compensate for the effect of printing under those proposed conditions, so you set about the task of editing the copy accordingly.  Remember, you're still in Adobe RGB.
Once you have the copy just the way you like it, YOU SAVE ALL YOUR CHANGES in that copy.  Now you have a fully edited image file in the Adobe RGB space but tweaked to look fine when printed in the FujiWonderPrinterInAlaskaUsingMatteThaiElephantPoopPaper printer.
At that point you are done!  Finished!
Now you are faced with two choices:
    A) Sending the finished, saved ADOBE RGB COPY to your printer if you consider him capable of knowing what he's doing.  (If you think he does not know his business, look for another printer).  Or…
    B) Assume you're dealing with a moron on the other end who wants the image CONVERTED to his custom FujiWonderPrinterInAlaskaUsingMatteThaiElephantPoopPaper.icc.  If that is the case, then open your COPY in Photoshop, go to the Edit menu > CONVERT to Profile… and convert the copy to the infamous FujiWonderPrinterInAlaskaUsingMatteThaiElephantPoopPaper.icc profile.  It's critical to use CONVERT TO Profile, not "Assign Profile"!
At that point, under scenario B), you do not EVER want to return to Proof View / Soft Proof mode, ever, EVER again, because then you would be applying the profile doubly and you'd see your image die before your eyes once again, and if you edited it you'd have real elephant poop!
    Hope that helps.
