View PSD files as thumbnails

My PSD files used to be visible as thumbnails now they are shown just as PSD files with no preview pic. I have searched the older topics and couldnt find an answer. I am using CS2 with Vista Ultimate 64bit. Thanks in advance.

  • Cant view PSD files !

I cant view PSD files I just get a blue icon,  I also cant see the pic larger of course in preview.  Is this normal!!!   I have no trouble viewing PSD files in other graphic viewers not made by Adobe!!  I can even view them in my explorer program (total commander).  Surely you must be able to view PSD files in a program made by adobe or what is the point in using Bridge?!!!
I should say I am using Bridge CS5 and the psd file was made with photoshop CS5
OOOPS It was my fault   the size limti I had set was too low, I increased this and now its fine.

The XMP thumbnail is probably what is getting used in this case.  Even for images saved without Maximize Compatibility, the Ardfry PSD Codec can use the image in the XMP for the thumbnail if it's present.  Recent versions of Photoshop allow you to choose whether to save a thumbnail image independently of whether or not Maximize Compatibility is set.
However, larger thumbnails and viewing a large image in the preview pane (as well as Windows Photo Viewer and Windows Media Center) are dependent on having the flattened image available.  The same behavior is found with Preview on the Mac.
If any bit of your workflow is non-Adobe, then setting Maximize Compatibility is probably a good idea.

  • View PSD files in windows explorer

Is there a way to view PSD files in windows explorer?

I use FastPictureViewer Codec Package its low cost and generated thumbnails for Raw and PSD files for Windows File explorer.

  • Why Can I No Longer View .PSD Files In Windows?

Recently, I installed PS CS3 10.0 Extended on my PC.  It replaced PS CS3 10.0.1 Extended, a version which was not mine.  Before the change, I was able to 'view' the .PSD files in Windows.  Now, all I am able to view is the icon.
I addressed this in the Microsoft forums, to no avail, as of yet.
Is this an issue with Windows or, perhaps, a setting in PS?  I am at a loss and would appreciate any help.
    Sincerely,
    Su Hall

    Su,
The display of PSD's in Windows is related to the psicon.dll (think that is the correct name). It was included for years in PS, but was discontinued, due to troubles at about the time of XP. At one time, the user could get a copy of that .dll, and install it, however at a point in the past, that trick stopped working for most users. Not sure why you had the Thumbnails for a while, but not now. My guess is that the .dll was removed, or corrupted.
I just use other utilities, like Bridge, and ThumbsPlus, and seldom have my View Option set to Thumbnails in Windows.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
BTW - what OS are you on?

  • Cannot view .psd files in Preview since upgrading to Leopard

Last week I upgraded my iBook G4 to Leopard 10.5.6. I've noticed that since the upgrade, I can no longer view any .psd files in Preview. I could do this with Tiger, but in Leopard all I get is a question mark symbol instead of an image.
I deleted the plist, but that didn't work.
Any suggestions? When I need to print something out quickly, Preview loads much more quickly than Photoshop CS 2.

I ended up solving the problem by using Graphic Converter to open the files and then using 'Save As' in the exact same format. Once I did that, the files opened up as normal again.
Still not sure why it happened in the first place, but I'm glad that things worked out.

  • Adobe Assets: Option to disable "tranform: scale()" CSS3 rules when viewing PSD files?

Although right now I nolonger see the CSS3 rule being shown on any element, but the font sizes seem to rely that the scale rule is still there.
From what I understand the "transform: scale" is used to get a size closer to how it is viewed in Photoshop. But I haven't noticed any difference when I grab the offered CSS rules or if I calculate the font size by multiplying the two.
Why can't we just get the font size in pixels like they are set in Photoshop? They have always seemed correct and precise to me.

    Hi,
`transform: scale()` should only appear on text that has been scaled in Photoshop. Here are two examples:
in http://adobe.ly/1DmLCGj the text has no transform, and so no transform CSS is emitted
in http://adobe.ly/1Estf4k each layer has a different transform, and it is shown in the CSS
If you think the scale is being added to the CSS incorrectly, would it be possible for you to share your PSD with us, so that we can investigate?

  • Viewing PSD thumbnails in a directory

I'm using Photoshop CS 4. When viewing PSD file thumbnails ina directory I cannopt see the actual image - just a PSD label.  Is this functioning correctly? Why can't I see a PSD thumbnail in Photoshop?

Adobe stopped shipping the dlls that showed PSD thumbnails in the CS3 time frame. IMO the best solution is to buy and install FastPictureViewer codec. Not onle will you get thumbnails for PSD files you will also get thumbnails for many RAW image formats.
If you also have or had CS2 installed you may still have the two DLL on you machine aiicon.dll and psicon.dll they would be in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Shell". If they are there you need to also have some registry entries tor them.

  • PSD files in Windows Explorer

I've used Photoshop Elements 2 for a few years and have recently upgraded to Photoshop Elements 4. I am sure I remember being able to view thumbnails of .psd files in Windows Explorer when I was using PSE2. However, now with PSE4, when I select thumbnails in the View menu, all my .psd files show up as a PSE icon (camera). Is there anything I can do either in Windows XP, Windows Explorer or PSE4 to allow me to see my .psd files as thumbnails?

    Stuart,
It is the famous story of Adobe leaving the 'psicon.dll' file out of
Elements, starting actually with PSE3. In my experience, reinstalling PSE2
does not seem to work. I never uninstalled it and still lost the
thumbnails. So I went through all the motions manually to get them back.
Take a look at the following thread, which will link you to yet another one
and read it all. There is supposed to be some risk in using psicon, but I
    never had a problem.

  • Can't view RAW files in Organizer

I have Elements 5.0 and I just downloaded the Adobe Camera Raw 4.5 (latest version to work with 5.0) and while I can now edit raw files, I cannot see them as thumbnails in Organizer.
Is there something else I need to do?  Does Elements 7.0 fix this problem?  My camera is a Canon Xti.
I am unable to view RAW files as thumbnails in Windows Explorer either, and have been told it's a Canon driver issue, but I don't think that is related.
    Thanks for any help.

This advice also applies to your case, PSE5 and ACR 4.5 (by the way, 4.6 is the latest version to work with PSE5)

  • How to enable Windows Explorer Thumbnail Viewer to display PSD files?

    Hi,
I am using Adobe Photoshop Extended CS5 (64-Bit) on Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit).
When using Windows Explorer to browse through file folders, I notice that the Photoshop files (.psd) do not display a thumbnail preview, like other graphic files do. How can I enable the Windows Explorer Thumbnail Viewer to display PSD files?
    Thanks for your help,
    The MiJiT

Adobe software doesn't provide a 64 bit codec and as far as I know there is no freeware to do it on x64 systems.
There are two pay-for applications that I know of:  Mystic Thumbs and Ardfry's PSD codec

  • How can I access the thumbnail/preview image of a PSD file?

Hey guys I'm trying to salvage some work from a corrupted PSD file via the thumbnail. What happened was I saved my work and closed photoshop and hit the reset button on my PC afterwards by mistake (i dont see why this caused a problem because the program was fully closed at the time). When I open the file now it says it uses an unsupported blending mode, if i press ok I get an error saying incompatible PS version, if I press flatten it says unexpected end of file was encountered. Ive tried PSD repair tools and searched the net for solutions and there doesnt seem to be any - Ive pretty much given up on trying to repair the original file.
The thing is, the thumbnail of the file seems to be intact because I can still see it as the file icon. I wanted to know if there was any way i can access this thumbnail image so i can enlarge it. Any help would be very appreciated!!

I have an idea to try...  Earlier I mentioned the Windows Picture Viewer...  Normally that won't read PSD files, but I'm used to using that to look into PSD files because at one point I bought the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack.
Something to try, and it won't cost anything:
    1.  Try downloading and installing the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack from here:  http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/
    2.  Once it's installed you get a free trial period, so you can try opening your PSD file by right-clicking on it and choosing Preview.
If that fails, here's another thing to try:
Open the Bridge component of Photoshop and navigate to the folder in which you have the file.  It may be able to make a larger thumbnail than the one you're seeing.
Other than that, are you saying you're seeing the thumbnail in Windows Explorer?  If that's the case, what happens if you right-click in the white space near the file and choose View - Extra Large Icons?

  • Psd files in My Pictures--No thumbnails in Vista

    Hello!
I recently began working on a new HP TX1000 laptop/convertible running Windows Vista. I downloaded PhotoShop Elements 5, and transferred my enormous picture collection to the new hard drive. No problems here. :-)
But when I open My Pictures to preview items I want to open in PSE, all the psd files come up with a graphic of a camera, no thumbnail. This was not a problem in XP, as far as I remember.
I know this is more of a Vista question than a PhotoShop question, but I am hoping someone here has an idea of how to resolve the issue.
And yes, I have the latest, Vista compatible, version of PSE 5.
    Thanks,
    Sharon

Do you mean a thumbnail or a customized icon? Which view of the folder are you using.
I seem to recall that there was a DLL that Adobe supplied that made this work. That used to commonly screw up other icons, which upset lots of people.
Why not just use Organizer ... ?

  • Saved PSD files show up as small thumbnails oinly in Bridge

Ive been working on some photos in ACR/CS2 and a strange thing happened. After working on raw files I save them in a separate working folder as psd files. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, my PSD files are showing up in Bridge as tiny thumbnails. This just started happening in the middle of working on a folder of raw files. The first few were fine and then the saved files began showing up as thumbnails.
Moving the slider to make them bigger doesnt do anything. I can make all the files smaller by moving the slider to the left, but moving to the right only makes the files thumbnail size. Very weird. This problem seems limited to Bridge. In PS they look fine. Ive even checked their file size and that looks fine. Ive closed and reopened Bridge, but that had no affect.
I cleared ACR preferences and purged the folder; that brought back some files but then others became small. Also when working on new files, the first few were again OK and then again files became thumbnail size in Bridge. I can open the files, save them to another folder and then copy them to the original folder, over writing the old, thumbnail size folder. I suspect all this has to do with cache and some setting, but I can't figure out the random nature of all this.

Actually I found the problem... under Bridge preferences, check to see if the "do not process files larger than ____MB" is less than the PSD file size.... i.e. my psd file was 229.24mb and my limit was set at 200mb... then once you change this go to cache settings and purge, it will reset the thumbnails and clear the small view issue.

  • PSE9: No thumbnail images of PSD files in Windows Explorer

    Win7 x64 SP1
    PSE 9.0.3
When using Windows Explorer to view a directory, *.psd files are shown with a generic PSE icon rather than as thumbnail images.  PSE9 is set as the default program for *.psd files.
Is there any way to get thumbnail images to display in Explorer?
    Ken

Yeah, I've heard that too, but I'm not buying that excuse:
It's not MicroSoft's responsibility for making someone's thumbnails work.  MS provides the documentation (I assume) for developers to write code for a DLL to display thumbnails in Windows Explorer.  It's up to the developer to do it.
Other software programs which use a proprietary image format do supply those DLLs.  Three examples that I use on my PC are:
        a.  Corel's CorelDraw and PhotoPaint install the appropriate shell DLLs to display their native files as thumbnails.
        b.  Xara also provides a 64-bit DLL which, when manually registered, displays their native file format as thumbnails.
        c.  The open-source Paint.Net group registers the DLL to display their native format as thumbnails.
God knows that those three, and especially the Paint.Net group, don't have the hundreds of millions of dollars and hundreds of developers that Adobe does, yet those three chose to do the right thing and provide what I consider to be an essential feature.
Apparently this has been going on for a long time -- certainly long enough for Adobe to write the darned code, if only Adobe had the will to do it.
PSE9 is the only Adobe product I currently have purchased and this issue just sticks in my craw.  Other than that, I've got nothing but praise for the program.
    Ken
