View remarks of an approver directly within the "Messages / Alerts" window.

Hi,
Here is a need from some customers. It makes snes to ask for this functionality... It works from one side (requestor side) but not for the other (approver side)... Could this enhancement be implemented in future patches / versions ?

Be able to view the remarks of an approver directly within the u201CMessages / alertsu201D overview. Identical behavior as it is for the approver when he receives a request for approval.

With no view of the remarks coming from the approver, we can miss important information from the approver. .. And to have to open a u201Cdecision report u201C in order to view the remarks that the approver has written, that makes no sense and in addition, Itu2019s time consuming !
Examples (Please describe a typical example, how the functionality should work):
Sophie wants to create a sales order, but she needs an approval to do it. So, when pressing the u201CAddu201D button in the Sales order window, the system launches the approval process. She writes in the REMARKS field u201CNeed your approval ASAP pleaseu201D.
Bill will be the approver of the sales order, so he receives the request for document approval in his u201CMessages / Alerts overviewu201D window.
Bill clicks on the u201CRequest for document approvalu201D in the u201CMessages / Alerts Overviewu201D window. By doing that, he sees in the middle part of the u201CMessages / Alerts Overviewu201D window that Sophie wrote a remark as this :`u201CNeed your approval ASAP pleaseu201D.   By knowing this, Bill will open the approval window and will take his decision immediately.
He writes a remark to Sophie as this : u201CPlease, donu2019t create any sales order for this customer before next week because we donu2019t know if they will pay us soon enoughu201D, he selects u201CApproveu201D and sends his approval to Sophie.
Sophie can see that Bill has approved her sales order in the u201CMessages / Alerts Overviewu201D window.
By clicking on the u201CDocument generation approvedu201D, Sophie can see very quickly, in the middle part of the u201CMessages / Alerts Overviewu201D window, that Bill gave her the instruction to avoid sales order creation for this customer in the upcoming week. So she wonu2019t try to create any sales order anymore for this partner.
Current Workaround (Please describe the workarounds you are using at the moment):
Open the u201CApproval decision reportu201D and filter to find the appropriate document approval, in order to view the remarks of the approver.   This is a big time consumingu2026
Proposed solution (Please suggest how the new functionality should work):
Itu2019s simple !! Why couldnu2019t you just simply standardize the way things work and do as it works for the approver side ? The approver can see / read the remarks coming from the requestor in the u201CMessages / Alerts overviewu201D window !   It would be so easy to do the same thing on requestor side ! It would be nice to be able to see / read the remarks coming from the approver in the u201CMessages / Alerts overviewu201D window !

I don't know if someone will take care of this... And I have to close a question since I want to post a new thread... So I have no choice, I must close one of my questions...

How to access MailItems within the Message View?

I'm working on an Outlook 2013 plugin that needs to access the emails currently displayed in the Message View.
I already searched around a lot but I could only find ways to list emails by folder (and also the current folder). E.g.
Outlook.MAPIFolder curFolder = this.Application.ActiveExplorer().CurrentFolder;
Outlook.Items mailItems = curFolder.Items;
MailItem item = mailItems.GetFirst();
This would work fine if the user didn't apply any search filters; but if a filter is applied via the instant search bar this code would produce the same list of MailItems as if the filter wasn't applied.
I thought of two ways of potentially solving this but couldn't find any resources online that worked for either. 1) Preferably, get direct read access to the MailItem list currently rendered within the Message View. 2) Alternatively, read the value in the instant
search text-box and apply that to the currently selected folder using the Items.Find()
command.
From what I've read I don't think either of these elements have supported direct access in the Outlook Object Model; but there must be some way to solve this problem. I've also tried using
this.Application.ActiveExplorer().Filter;
but this appears to output a DASL query in the format ("http://schemas.microsoft.com/mapi/id/{00062008-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}/85700003" = 0) so I'm unsure if this is could be reformatted or be used as a filter.
Any guidance or explanations would be greatly appreciated; thanks in advance.

The Filter property is useless in that case. I spent some time researching that and found the following way:
The
GetTable method of the TableView class returns a Table object
that represents all of the Microsoft Outlook items that are contained in a TableView object.
Here is what MSDN states:

returns a table of items from one or more folders in the same store or spanning over multiple stores, in an aggregated view. For example, an aggregated view obtained by a search across all mail items by using Instant Search. This behavior differs from the GetTable method
of the Folder object,
which obtains a table object that contains items from the same folder.

You can (I do all the time). The oreview window can be resized by dragging the message list window border - you might accidentally have closed it up

You can use the Share button on Preview's toolbar. Choosing Email pops open Mail with the PDF already iconified as an attachment. If it doesn't behave this nicely for you, select the PDF in Mail and choose the right contextual menu, where you will find View as Icon. I also have Send Windows-Friendly attachments enabled.

The new ribbon user interface in Win 8.1 should display appropriate buttons depending on the currently displayed folder within the explorer.exe window.

To begin with, in file-explorer (.\system32\explorer.exe) normally, the new ribbon user interface in Win 8.1 does indeed display appropriate buttons depending on the currently displayed folder within the explorer.exe window.
But when one re-parents the explorer window handle to any window handle other than 0000 (desktop's window handle), then the UIRibbon fails to do so.
You might ask 'Who does that ?' and I would say no-one usually, however I use BrightExplorer which
is a great little app that gives me a tabbed file-explorer experience.
Now, this app works fine since Windows 7, but with Windows 8 the file explorer introduced the new UIRibbon in its UI. It's that new UIRibbon that gets confused by what I think may be be caused by the re-parenting that BrightExplorer does
to pull a file explorer session into its tabbed control.
This phenomenon relates to Windows 8 + and is observed only by doing the following steps:
Download BrightExplorer from BrightNewWorlds.com by going here: BrightExplorer,
In the address bar go to This PC,
then go to any other folder and note that the UIRibbon is not keeping track of the changing folder selections.

All the message dates in the message list changed in every mailbox to a recent date, I don't know why.. The dates within the messages' headlines themselves remained correct. How do I re-establish the correct dates also in the mailboxes' message list?

First thing is to forget all the complex configs and just try to schedule the report to run once now, no alerts, no notifications, no nothing.
Does that work?
Then you can build up the schedule, to see where the problem is coming from.

Delete the current Firefox shortcut on the desktop and create a new desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu on the Firefox.exe program (Send to > Desktop)

Any hack to make the iCal Alert window larger? Expandable?

I live and die by the iCal Alert window.
It's way too tiny for me.
Has anyone seen a hack that allows it to be larger, or even better, expandable via the lower-right corner expando trick?

You can also turn on zoom in System Preferences/Universal Access, then use *cmd opt =* (that's holding down the command or apple key, the option key, and the = key) to enlarge, cmd opt - to shrink back down.
