When I right-click on a webpage and left-click "view page source" nothing happens. Yes, I have tried view source on a wide variety of sites and none of them work.
Thanks for any help provided.

The [/questions/749801 other topic] does work (it's locked now).
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).<br />
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins<br />
<br />
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.<br />
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.<br />
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• When I type a link to a page in my root directory in code view and I click on the link in live view it does not go to that page.  But if I preview in a browser it works fine.

When I type a link to a page in my root directory in code view and I click on the link in live view it does nothing.  When I then go to preview in a browser it works fine.  Can anybody help?

I am not sure however I suspect live view is for viewing the page you are working on. You would have to open the other page to see it in live view. The browser on the other hand is doing what it is designed to do. I jump back and forth all the time from live view to the browsers I have installed.

Just bought brand new new iMac. When browsing in Safari, sometimes the text suddenly gets super large. I'm doing nothing except reading the screen, tho I usually have my hand resting lightly on the mouse. I can get back to normal size by clicking "actual size" in View. But then it does it again a minute or two later. What gives? Something seems defective--but what?

From System Preferences, Mouse, Point & Click, Secondary click.  Go to it hover over Secondary click and watch the short video sequence change it left right, left right, you will see exactly what is does. No I do not think your Mouse is defective, you simply need to take control of your Mouse finger.

• Why does nothing show up in Design view?

I'm using DW CS5 and creating a page to upload as a Facebook tab. I'm working in code view and the only thing I have in the code is an image. When I switch over to Design view, it shows nothing. But clicking on live view or previewing in browser shows the image perfectly. In Design View, the screen is gray instead of the normal white and there are two icons (one resembling a think bubble and the other a piece of paper). If I click on the little icons, the gray screen turns white but clicking doesn't allow me to edit or place anything new in Design view. Does anyone know what's going on? I can't continue unless I can see the image and click on it in Design view since I'll be mapping the image to link to another page!

• JimP: Setting srcview in View Source -- how?

Gentlepersons,
I'm reposting this question because my previous posting on this topic had an error in it that made responding difficult.  My bad.
Run this tiny Flex app (which does absolutely nothing of interest):
         http://www.igetitmusic.com/blog/SWFs/Tweener/Tweener.swf
...and then select its "View Source" menu item (by right-clicking or command-clicking on it). Up comes the source code, which is in
         http://www.igetitmusic.com/blog/SWFs/Tweener/srcview/index.html
Coolness!
The same applet is embedded at the bottom of a blog posting here:
         http://www.igetitmusic.com/blog/2009/05/shape-of-frustration.html
... by embedding a link to exactly the same SWF as above (that is, to http://www.igetitmusic.com/blog/SWFs/Tweener/Tweener.swf).
Now, select the "View Source" menu item in the BLOG's reference to the applet.
Whoa, Nellie!  It doesn't work!  It looks for the source code in the wrong place: http://www.igetitmusic.com/blog/2009/05/srcview/index.html.
Where did that path name come from?
What algorithm is the View Source menu item using to generate the path name to its source code?
How can I override this algorithm's behavior so that embedding [swfpath]/foo.swf into [whatever]/aPage.html will cause the View Source menu item of that object look for its source at [swfpath]/srcview/index.html, not [whatever]/srcview/index.html?
Respectfully, and with sincere appreciation for any help, I am
Yours,
Jim Plamondon

P.S.: PLEASE DO NOT tell me that "you can generate source by checking the "View Source" checkbox in the "Export Release Build..." dialog. Clearly (this is clear, isn't it?), the problem isn't generating the source, it is finding the source at runtime.

Gentlepersons,
This turns out to be a known bug in Flex 3, which has been fixed in Flex 4 (which is still in development).
In the meantime, the workaround is to expose, in the web page in which a SWF is embedded, a separate link to that SWF's source code (labelled something like "click here for source code").
Hoping that this helps, I remain

• "Preview this File" Does Nothing + Blinding GTK+ open file dialogs...

...I have two problems in KDEMod4...did anyone have these problems and how do you fix them?
Right clicking a file and clicking "Preview this File" does nothing...including folder views, Konqueror, and Dolphin.
GTK+ open file dialogs alternate between the normal background for my text box and blindingly white background.

Hi,
I also have the same problem, but with my JNI and C++ expertise, I was able to isolate the problem.
My platform:
- Microsoft Windows XP, Family Edition (French), Version 2002, Service Pack 3
- JRE 1.6.0_21
In the source of the JDK6 (Src/windows/classes/sun/awt/windows/WDesktopPeer.java), the Desktop.open(file) calls the native method
ShellExecute(*uri.toString()*, "open")
For example, if you try to open "c:\helloworld.pdf",
uri.toString() = "*file:/c:/helloworld.pdf*"if I call ShellExecute("C:\\helloworld.pdf", "open"), it works
but if I call ShellExecute(" file:/c:/helloworld.pdf", "open"), it doesn't work on my platform.
In both case, the ShellExecuteW or ShellExecuteA function of the Windows API return the integer 42 (> 32), saying that the functions succeeded. If the file object is not correct, the function should return a value <= 32.
=> The bug is not due to Java implementation, but to a bug in the Windows API.
Other remark:
I also tried the "ShellExec_RunDLL" entry point of the Shell32.dll library using RunDll32 utility. Both commands below are running correctly:
rundll32 SHELL32.DLL,ShellExec_RunDLL "C:\hello.pdf"
rundll32 SHELL32.DLL,ShellExec_RunDLL "file:/C:/hello.pdf"My conclusion:
1) A workaround could be implemented in the JRE: use the file path without the "file:/" protocol prefix.
2) This bug seems to be present only one some version of Windows XP (to confirm).
Rodolphe.

• View source shows not only HTML but also external JS and displays it in an unorganized format, how come?

Whenever I use the view source feature, the pane does not only show the HTML, but it also pastes in all Javascripts which are in an external file. On top of that all the indents are gone making it pretty much unreadable.
I have this issue with every single site I try to view the source of. I turned of and uninstalled all add-ons. Started up in safe mode. But nothing seems to work. I had this in firefox 3.6 and upgraded to 4 hoping it would solve it but it doesn't.

If you have the problem in three different browsers, it suggests something "upstream" or shared at the system level, since each has a separate cache and Safari/Chrome use Webkit, not Gecko, as their rendering engine.
Is it possible that all the source views use a font which has become corrupted? In Firefox you could test that theory by changing your Monospace font here:
Edit > Preferences > Content > (Fonts & Colors section) Advanced button
If that doesn't help, do you browse through a proxy server either on your Mac, your network, or out on the internet? Sometimes a security scanner has an embedded proxy server.

• CFR File Does Nothing

I have two machines running Windows XP and CFMX 7.02
Developer Edition. Neither will display a CFR report. No errors are
encountered, the page is just completely blank. No Flash Paper, no
PDF, nothing. Report is just a simple query against a DB to test.
Testing the query in the report builder returns valid data. Used
the wizard to create the report. .CFR files are configured in IIS.
Preview in report builder behaves the same. Calling report from CFM
file using <cfreport> behaves the same.
Any ideas? TIA.

In report builder I create a new report, using the wizard. I
use query builder to access a local access database and just select
a couple of fields. I test query and it returns data. I proceed
with the wizard, accepting defaults for everything else. I save
report. I preview report. Preview window completely empty. I try to
access report via url to .cfr file. Empty browser window. I copy
.cfr file and database to different machine and run it via url
there. Same thing. I create .cfm page that does a query then uses
<cfreport> tag to call report using just returned query
(which I've cfdump'ed and it returns expected data). Same thing,
empty browser window. I view source of browser page. Completely
empty.

• Mail Viewer Window Does Not Open on Launch. Mail Will Not Quit. MAIL BADGER

<UPDATE> After detailing all of the problems below, I discovered that trashing the Mail Badger bundle solved all of the below problems. I am still posting this just in case anybody else has this problem.
Problems:
1. When opening mail.app, the program opens, but it does not launch a Viewer Window. I can open a viewer window manually from the File menu, however.
2. When quitting mail.app, it will not quit. It does not matter whether I hit command-Q, or Mail>Quit Mail, or right-click on dock icon and click Quit. The only way for me to quit is Force Quit. No matter what Quit command I execute, nothing happens. The Viewer Window does not close. (The Viewer Window will close on command, however, either by clicking the red 'x' or by command-W, or by File>Close.
3. Cannot send mail from mail.app. Upon clicking "send" on a new email, it just goes to the Outbox and sits there forever. I can try sending the email again from the Outbox, but nothing happens. (I have 4 gmail accounts, with a couple thousand messages between them. There are no problems with port configurations or smtp servers or anything like that - I am fairly certain anyway because nothing has changed w/ regard to the account settings between the time it was working and the time it stopped working.)
4. After minimizing the Viewer Window, clicking on the mail.app dock icon does not restore the Viewer Window. The only way to restore the Viewer Window is to click on the Viewer window itself in the dock, rather than clicking on the application icon.
Notes: I have installed 10.4.10. I have also installed Safari Beta 3.0.2
I previously installed Safari Beta 3.0, then uninstalled it and upgraded to 3.0.2. I don't recall when the problems started, (under 3.0 or 3.0.2), but they all happened at the same time (rather than one at a time).
I have uninstalled Safari 3 and reverted to Safari 2, but this does not fix the problems.
I have repaired disk permissions.
I have booted from the OS X Install disk and repaired my startup disk.
I have not had any problems with Safari 3 "hanging" on install, thus corrupting the WebKit, as described in other threads.

I had the same issue and resolution. Spotlight search for "Mail Badger" and deleting everything resolves the issue.
I'm also running Safari 3.0.2 and 10.4.10...
I've emailed the developer to let him know about it..

• HTML code displays on one line in browser view source

Hi,
In Dreamweaver, my HTML code displays returns, spaces, etc. However, in the view source option in a browser (Firefox in particular), all the code is displayed on one single line. I only found about this because I was having problems with my Google Ads not displaying. (A Google customer service person helped me to find a workaround for this since I still haven't figured how to get my code to display correctly.) So I have gone to Preferences in DW and changed my Code Format Line Break type. The result is the same with each of the three options: the code is all on one line when you check it under view source in a browser. (The server is Linux.)
Does anyone know how to fix this? Also, I think I know how this happened in the first place. I copied my code to TextEdit for a quick backup the other day, and then I pasted it back to DW. Bad idea? Is the only way to get the code back to normal to re-write it in a new HTML file in DW?

Pssh. Problem solved, but I'm not quite sure how. I did go back and try to clean up some redundant CSS and other things, but the HTML/CSS validator still shows that I have this one invalid <header> tag (www.nextmontenegro.com), but since that was written as part of the DW template, I just left it. Weird. Anyway, the code flows down the page now.
Thanks for the quick replies and helpful hints:-)

• View source doesn't work / is broken / not working in 6.1.0.1

View source in IE6 works on the guest users mypage when they first land on the site and on the login page, but any other community page once you login - it breaks.
I'm having to use the 'view partial source' in my right click context menu as offered once you install 'webdevaccess.exe' (a developer plugin unsupported but offered by Microsoft - google it) to see any source. I must admit, I just ctrl-a then 'view partial source' and I get everything but the initial <html> and <head> tags pretty much - but it's a pain.
Has anyone else seen this behavior and is there a fix?

It appears that this is indeed a problem with certain versions of IE6 while using server-side compression for all portal pages (a new feature on ALI 6.1 that is enabled by default).
The Release Notes actually contain two known issues related to this:
- Some versions of IE6 on Windows 2000 have a bug where they do not render compressed pages properly. End users should upgrade to the latest version of IE6 if compression is enabled. (Issue #54230)
- You may experience issues downloading Excel spreadsheets from Analytics reports using the Microsoft IE6 browser. (Issue #54827)
This problem is directly related to one or more of the following bugs in IE6 SP1 resolved by the KB articles listed below. Please require users to either upgrade their browsers by installing IE6 SP2 or patching with the specific downloads listed in the KB articles.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/871205
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0c7055c3-0bec-4042-b6aa-3443739c66ab&DisplayLang=en
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823386
The other workaround is to specifically disable compression for Excel spreadsheets in the httpcompression.xml setting file, located in %PT_HOME%/settings/portal.
I upgraded to MSIE 7 and did not encounter the problem. I also confirmed that the problem does not occur with IE6 when HTTP compression is disabled. This is now controlled by a new httpcompression.xml file.

• Clicking on M/S' RUN and/or SAVE does nothing - just sits there

Have had this problem for a few days. In trying to open again, it always tells me Firefox is still running and to close it first. There is no Firefox running! Have uninstalled FF and in trying to install a new one, I get as far as the Run/Save; clicking on either one does nothing, it just sits there. Thanks for your help. PS - I've been using FF for ages - first time I've had this problem. PPS = tried to cut/paste browser url but went to open a file.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

• Clicking on links in Safari does nothing

Running OS 10.8.5 on desk top iMac.  Lately, today, have found that clicking ona link in Safari does nothing.  Simply stays on the same page I was viewing.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the errant extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.
