View thumbnails by default on Open...

Using PS CS3 and Win XP Home
Need a way to set the Open... dialogue box to display thumbnails by default rather than just a list of my image file names. Frustrated! Ta.

I too am new to PSCS3 and this did not help me. Got any other ideas?

  • Preview - Set view Thumbnails as default

Is it possible to open a document in Preview and have it open to show thumbnails as the default instead of Content Only?

    Hi Raghavendra,
We are also struggling with this issue. It is possible to set default values, but the question still is whether it is possible to check the Set to Null checkbox automatically?
    Any idea?

  • Can view thumbnails - but can't open photos

I have iPhoto 5 & OS 10.3.9 (I don't know if 5 came with my iBook G4 or if it was an Apple download upgrade from an earlier version.) In 3 years I've rarely used iPhoto, since I normally use the software that came with the camera (Canon). However, this week I let iPhoto take over and transfer the images. The first day of use I had no problem reviewing and adjusting individual images. When I returned four days later, however, I'm no longer able to access the photos.
I can see all the thumbnails at the stop, but when I click on any image all I get is a black screen. What's going on?

  • Preview to open with thumbnails by default

Is it possible for thumbnails to display automatically when opening a document in preview?
I'm just so tired having to click on View/Thumbnails every single time.
    Thanks a lot

You were on the right path Mylenium, I managed to fix the problem.
So here's some tips for anyone who upgrades to CS5.5 from a previous version like I did, in this case CS3.
When I uninstalled CS3 I didn't quite do a full uninstall of all programs as there were some things I wanted to keep, like soundbooth etc.  Now, I was pretty sure I completely uninstalled AE CS3 but it seems that some of the folders and files lingered behind during the uninstall process.
When I uninstalled CS5.5, it did warn me that there was a minor issue with the installation that a reboot would fix.  I did this and everything was working perfectly, until I of course tried to open an After Effects project by clicking on the folder, then the project.
As you saw, the program wasn't allowed to be selected as the default and for some reason it wouldn't stick when using browse. SO! I rebooted my computer into Safe Mode and went into the Adobe Folder that had the old After Effects CS3.  I completely deleted that folder and all of its contents and ran CCcleaner next to go through the registry.  It found various conflicts with After Effects including invalid keys, could not open with CS5.5 by default, etc.  Not exactly in those words, but clear enough to state that there was a conflict with the default program launcher.
After fixing the issues with CCcleaner, I went back into normal Windows.  Right clicked on the icon properties, selected browwse, support files, AfterFX, and the problem was solved!
Was very boneheaded of me not to do a complete wipe of the installation, but after Adobe had gotten rid of audition initially, I was afraid of losing programs that I had use for.
Anyway, if anyone else runs into this problem just make sure to completely delete the old installation and run a registry cleaner to fix the issues.

  • View Thumbnails in Open Dialog?

When you bring up a "open file" dialog, the window automatically comes up in the list view.  Once it's open, I can manually select the thumbnail view, but next time you bring it up it goes back to the list view.  I want this dialog to open with the thumbnail view selected.  Anyone know of a way to do this?

Ah, all LabVIEW programmers are commonly sooooo lazy... (me too)

Look at it the other way...
LV developers are smart (they chose LV) so they use their inteligence to work smarter not harder.
    Ben
Fully agree! But LabVIEW developers are not only smart, they also able to get things done...
Quick and dirty something liike that:
LabVIEW 8.6 / WindowsXP. Not sure about Vista / 7. Too lazy to check it.

  • Unable To View Thumbnail NEF Image

I just purchased a new laptop using Windows 7.  Unable to view thumbnail image in Pictures once folder is open.  Installed CS2, changed nearly all defaults to open images from Windows to CS2. Bridge works fine,  Suggestions please.

What camera(s) produced the NEF images?
You need the appropriate Adobe Camera Raw plug in to view them.
    See: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407111.html
I don't think you can view raw images in the Picture viewer, you need Bridge.
And if the camera is newer than CS2 you will need the DNG converter.

  • Mail not loading a Viewer Window by default.

My question is how do I set Mail so that it does open the viewer window by default? I am running Mail 8.0 on a 2014 iMac running Yosemite.
I have tried to locate .plist files (although that is close to the edge of my expertise) and there is no "Mail" folder in Hard Drive/Library
    Any advice would be awesome!

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if it frightens you, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Burning a video to DVD that will default to opening at actual size.

Hi. I am burning a widescreen (16:9) SD video to dvd using DVD Studio Pro 4. The video has been exported from FCP6 using compressor. The quality is fine and the aspect ratio has been retained for viewing (letterboxed) on a 4:3 CRT and also on a widescreen display. Is there any way, through encoding, that I can force the video, by default, to open at actual size on a widescreen computer display rather than full screen? I realize that the viewer can exit from fullscreen mode and select "actual size" in DVD Player, but if possible, I would like the video to begin playing at actual size without any adjustments having to be made. My concern is that some viewers will not bother to exit fullscreen mode and will view the video at a size not supported by its resolution. It's a video of a photographer's stills and at a display size larger than actual size, the sharpness of the images is compromised. Any way to get around this other than adding some text advising the viewer to watch the video at actual size or redoing the whole thing in HD?

Not possible. There's nothing in the DVD Video specification that provides for this.
There are settings available in the Preferences menu for Apples's DVD Player that can be set to do this, but no way to put information on a disc that will override those settings.

  • In Elements 12, how do I get thumbnails to show when opening a file?

In Elements 12, how do I get thumbnails to show when opening a file?

When in iPhoto (photos, library, an album, whatever, etc.) and I try to position the thumbnails at the top of the page I am unable to do so. In the "View" menu of iPhoto, then "Thumbnails" at the bottom, then all the items in the menu are grayed out. I have tried to go to iPhoto prefences and try there, but no luck. I get the beachball turning for a few minutes, then it stops, but still no luck.
    I have iPhoto 08, OS 10.5.8, anda PowerBook G4, 17"
Thanks, and sorry for the brief/incomplete question.

  • Set Adobe Reader 9 as Default pdf Opener

New laptop.  I have Adobe Acrobat 5 and Adobe Reader 9 installed.  Need the 5 because it has Acrobat Distiller.
PROBLEM:  When I try to open pdfs from the web I get an error (The Adobe/Acrobat Reader that is running cannot be used to view pdf files from the Web Browser.  Version 8 or 9 is required.)
    Working in Microsoft Windows environment.
How can I set version 9 as the default to open web files?
    Thanks!

Found the fix in some of the previous posts that showed up on the right of my screen after I posted this question.  Nice system!

  • Zoom resets to default when opening a new tab

I am using Firefox 23 on Ubuntu. It recently updated. The new behavior is not desired. Here is what happens. I open a page
    http://www.foobar.com
I set my preferred zoom level with ctrl++ or View>>Zoom>>Zoom In
I open a link from that page in a new tab
    http://www.foobar.com/story/12345/something-new-happening-today
the tab opens with zoom at the default level, and I have to set it again manually. PITA.
Earlier versions of Firefox kept the same zoom level when I opened links in new tabs as described above.
Firefox 23 retains my zoom level when I open a link in a new WINDOW, but NOT in a new tab.
How do I get Firefox 23 to retain the zoom level I set when I open a link in a new tab?

browser.zoom.siteSpecific preference is set to true

  • How do i view thumbnails or .mp4 files in my windows folders? for quicktime

i noticed since switching my cameras i used to be able to view thumbnail pictures of my movies.
my new computer uses .mp4 files for HD movies so now my files only show .mp4 icon instead of a thumbnail for the video.
    anyways to fix this?

According to Adobe's supported-camera list, you need at least ACR 8.1, so 7.4 is too old:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
According to Adobe's Camera Raw list, Elements 11 only works up to ACR 8.0:
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
So you have to buy PSE12 or use the free DNG Converter to convert the ORFs to DNGs that will then have enough information in them to open in your older Elements version.  You can download the latest DNG Converter near the top of this page:
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates
If you need an older version due to your OS being too old, then you can download older versions from the DNG Converter section further down the page but make sure you use at least DNG Converter 8.1.

  • Default Photo Opener

How do I set iPhoto as my default photo opener?

    Herbz
welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
How do I set iPhoto as my default photo opener?
iPhoto is not a photo viewer and can not be the default photo opener - you must import photos into iPhoto before you can operate on them there
By default it is the default camera download program - to change that you go to the iPhoto preferences and set the program you want to open when a camera is connected
To change the default program to open photos right click (control click) on a photo and use the open with command and click to always use use this program option
