View two midi events on the piano roll

Hi, my issue is a follows:
Take two midi events on two separate channels (eg kick on inst 1 channel 1 and snare on inst 2 channel 2) - when highlighting both strips in the arrange, then opening the piano roll (cmd+6), I used to be able to view both. But in logic 9 only one of them can be viewed.
I can view both on the piano roll on the arrange, but that's less desirable (takes away space on my arrange screen).
Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
Quit Logic Pro
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
Restart the computer.
Note: If you cannot find any of the files mentioned in this tip,you didn't follow the instructions exactly as written

  • Why when I move a midi event in the piano roll the film does not move with this event?

LOGIC X 10.0.3. Why when I move a midi event in the piano roll the film does not move with this event?

Film? Have you dropped a movie file into your Logic project as well? You need to be a little clearer.

  • Why do the piano roll and event editor act differently?

In Logic Studio 9, this wasn't the case, but there are numerous examples now where editing MIDI in the event view acts right, and editing the same MIDI content in the piano roll acts wrong.  It's extremely frustrating!  Personally, I think who ever modified the behavior of the Piano Roll in Logic 10 should be fired on the spot.  I'd downgrade to 9 in a heartbeat if it was still available in the App Store.
Two examples off the top of my head:
    - Selecting a MIDI note in the event viewer selects ONLY the note and not all the MIDI objects that fall within the time span of that note. This is not the case in the piano roll as it assumes that when you select a note, you want *more* than just the note you're clicking on. This is a stupid assumption and is new in 10.
    - Dragging midi notes in the piano roll randomly deletes all non-note events and changes the action from "move" to "copy" where the only workaround when the piano roll gets stuck in this state is to do the same action in the event viewer.
Please rollback changes made to the piano roll in 10 back to what 9 was as I've wasted countless hours of my life trying to work around these flubs!

Try making a blank project with no settings at all and just add a bass from whatever plugin. Make sure there are no plugins at all on the track (not just muted but removed). Then try again.
I believe palying on the pianoroll with the mouse plays at 127 velocity but I ain´t sure. How about the output? Does it clip/go red? Then it will disort.

  • Is there a way to show/reveal the piano roll (or score) from a midi input when recording an audio track in Logic 9?

I'm trying to record audio tracks in Logic 9 over midi tracks I've created using a software instrument.  I've done this before, and there used to be a no problem in seeing the midi information in the piano roll or the score while recording audio tracks, but it now impossible to reveal.  Has ayone else exerienced this?  Was there a change (update) that eliminated that as an option?  Or did I do something in preferences somewhere (unbeknownst to me when doing it) that has caused this?  Thanks for any suggestions.

Just open the piano roll fro the regions you want and deselect the chain icon at the upper left.

  • Why can't i see my midi in the piano roll of logic

I can create a track in a midi region, yet when I select the midi region the data does not appear in the piano roll! It did uintil I deleted a few tracks and now only 1 midi region appears and I cannot select another. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

The Fax modem printer is formed when you choose Fax PDF... from the PDF button of the Print... dialog box. In other words, do it once, even if you do not complete the fax, and it will be there.

  • Why are my samples disappearing in the piano roll?

    Hey guys,
I have been using a J Dilla and Lex Luger drum kit in the ESX24 sampler and I recorded a beat using them, some software instruments, and audio. Everything works fine for a while and then all of the sudden the notes from the green software instrument bar disappear and I can't hear any of the things I recorded with my downloaded drum kits. I checked in the piano roll, and nothing is there. All of my other software instruments that weren't from an imported sample worked fine.
The first time this happened, I was able to just close the project and open it up again because I didn't add anything new. Everything was there when I reopened it. But it happened a second time, and I want to see if there is a way to get my samples back without having to lose all of my progress. Any Ideas?

... but the "notes" in the software instrument tracks that contain instruments that I downloaded from the internet have disappeared and won't play back. The green region stays there but the notes have disappeared.
The Track (containing the Regions) and the Channel Strip (containing the Software Instrument Track) are two different objects and you can assign (reassign) a Track to any Channel Strip. That's why it is strange that the choice of Instrument (Channel Strip) affects the Regions (Track).
    Just to make sure:
You create a Software Instrument Track (A)
You load the EXS24 on that Channel Strip (assigned to that Track A) and load one of those drum kits you got from the internet
You can play that drum kit on the EXS24 with your external MIDI controller when you selected that Track A.
When you record those MIDI notes, you see a new Green MIDI Region is created on the Track Lane of Track A
When you select that MIDI Region and open the Piano Roll (or the Event List), you don't see any MIDI notes.
That would mean, the MIDI Region was created but no MIDI Notes were created
    Is that what happened?
It seems that you added a DropBox link with an image. I cannot see that, only a question mark. If this is a screenshot, you can post that directly on the post by clicking the area icon in the formatting bar.

  • Why was the link button removed from the piano roll?

Why was the LINK (chain) button removed from the piano roll? This makes Logic X useless to me as I can no longer compose or perform new lines based on previous midi performances. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!

I miss that button too and just filled out the LX Feedback form (Menubar -> Logix Pro X-> Feedback) with the following text. Maybe if you guys did the same, we had a chance revive this essetial feature!!!
    thanks!

    Hi there,
it seems as if the Link Button (Yellow chain symbol) has been removed from the piano roll for no reason. In Score View it is still there.
I (and probably more users) absolutely NEED that Button to decouple the content of the piano roll from the selected track/region AND to use multiple piano roll windows with independent content.
    - For transscripting (Mute/Solo Audio regions while editing a Midi-Region)
    - For arranging. Edit 2 different midi regions both in separate Piano Roll windows
    - For recording. "Reading" Drum-Patterns while recording the Bass e.g.
Please bring that button back or explain why it was removed
    Best regards,

Hi cris2121, assuming you're using a mouse from apple, go to >System Preferences<
it's here where one can configure a mouse device.
Additionally you can also configure Scrubbing in Logic: "When in scrub mode, you can slowly move the playhead in the Tracks Window and the Audio (and optional MIDI) will be played back. The playback speed depends on how fast you move the Playhead in either direction."
    Have a nice day!

  • 7 day view of Calendar Events on the Slide to Unlock Screen???

Does anyone agree that an option to view Calendar of Events on the Slide to Unlock Screen would be a quick and easy way to review your next events and appointments?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Logic Pro X.  Right-click not working in the piano-roll editor.  And colour issues.

I usually use the right mouse-button to open the toolbox under the cursor but this doesn't appear to work within the piano-roll edit window in Pro X.  Is this the same for everyone?  The right-click works in all other windows.  Seems pretty odd.
Also is it just me who finds the near-black background very oppressive?  I worked in front of Pro X for several hours yesterday and was left wishing I could change the background colour of the main and edit windows.  Is there any way to do this?
I also really need to be able to access custom colours for the colour palette as the new palette doen't sit at all well with me.  Any ideas anyone?  The manual states that if you double-click on a colour it should open the colour editor but it doesn't.....

It turns out that if you assign the right button to 'Open Tools and Shortcut Menu', it works in the piano roll.  It's obviously a bug which should get ironed out.
The other thing that's driving me nuts though is that when I change tools in the main window, the pointer still appears like an arrow, even though its function has changed.  When I pass it over a region, it usually changes to to the correct icon - but not always!  Aarghhh I'm going back to Pro 9 for now......

Maybe find a local who can translate for you. I don't know what to tell you for dealing in another country for service on your computer.
I can offer you something you can do if you want to give it a try. You'll need a backup of your data in your Home folder because you need to erase the drive. You'll also need a solid, preferably fast, internet connection.
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

Disable or remoce the Calendar, that is creating these events, Terry.
To find out, which calendar is creating these events, ctrl-click on one of the events and select "Get Info".
In the Info panel click the color icon in the upper right corner to find out the calendar, that created this event.
Then reveal the "Calendars" Sidebar (press the "Calendars" button in the toolbar) and select the Calendar, ctrl-click it and delete the calendar or disable it.

  • How do you get the piano roll on logic pro x to show 1/64th notes?

On the piano roll in Logic Pro X the grid only shows like 1/16 notes. I want to be able to zoom in and have the grid at 1/64 notes.

Transport is at the top center of the Logic window. If you click on the "/16" which I circled in red, you will get a drop down menu to change the the note length you want.
Your transport may look different and might not have the "/16" right now. I have a custom transport displayed. "Custom" can be selected by clicking the "gear" icon on the left of the transport. Various options for what to display in the transport can be accessed by right-clicking in the transport bar and selecting "customize transport and display." The option you are looking for will be in the "LCD" section - choose "custom" and check the box for "signature division."
