View video clip recording date in PRE7?

Hello,
The recording date information of video clips is embedded in my AVI-file but how can I view it in PRE7?
There must be a better solution than to open the file in my old software (Pinnacle) where this information can be found easily.
The video was captured through firewire from a digital camcorder (DV).
Cheers

Hans,
I do not use the Organizer, so do not know all of its power and limitations, but think that you should have the Metadata available there. Depending on the camera used, that should contain the shooting date, provided that the calender and clock were set on it. Does that not work with this footage?
I feel your pain, as I had to transfer 34 VHS tapes for editing a series of DVD's for the client. Luckily, his VHS camcorder started each scene with a Date/Time imprint. Now, this was often edited out, when I did the post-production work, but I would just look at the 'master" Clip, jot down that info, and then Title with it, say "Liz & Page Christmas 1985." As I transferred, I also made a shot log with all dates, plus notes on each scene, so I had much of that stuff already. Obviously, there was no Metadata in these to use, but many cameras do have that info now. Do not know all of the situations where it might not be accessible, or by which programs.
Good luck, and maybe some Organizer "power-user" can fill in the blanks for us both.

PS - Adobe is very lenient with mention of other programs, even direct competitors' apps. They seem fully committed to allowing the user the best possible experience, even if it means picking up a copy of ______. Most of us have all sorts of NLE's, and utilities in those "toolboxes." While I do use mostly Adobe programs, I have many others too. Some are highly specialized, and only get trotted out once per year. A few others see much more use, but even then, that usage pales to my use of Adobe products.

• Why can,t I view video clips on web page? Why do I have to download them?

Every since I downloaded Firefox, I cannot view video clips on a webpage, they have to be downloaded to Firefox downloads and then viewed on Real player. This is very inconvenient. How do I go back to the way it used to be prior to downloading Firefox?

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

• I cannot view video clips in iphoto. quicktime used to open automatically but no longer

I cannot view video clips I created and syncd from my iphone into iphoto.  Quicktime used to open automatically.  Now it wont for some reason.

If you have iPhoto 8 and Lion then download and install QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later.  That should let you view clips in the iPhoto library.

• Help viewing video clips in iphoto 08.

I recently downloaded both photos and video clips taken from my iphone 5 and downloaded to my mac OSX 10.6.8 computer (as I have many times before.) I quickly discovered that I can no longer view video clips in the iphoto 08 program as I have always been able to do.  Why?  Typically, I would double click on video clip and it would play in iphoto.

I can commiserate about the bad disk drive, because I went through that.
The latest version of iMovie is 9.01 (also known as iMovie 11).
About your movies in iPhoto...did iMovie see them before? Were you on iMovie 11 before?
Will they play in iPhoto? If they will play in iPhoto, chances are you can import them into iMovie. Note where they are in iPhoto by using right-click (or control-click)/Reveal in Finder.
In iMovie, use FILE/IMPORT FROM.../ to find that file and import it.
If your laptop is less than three months old, it may have come with iMovie 11. If it is older, it probably had iMovie 09. iMovie 11 came out in late October.
If you were on iMovie 11 before, then reinstalling iMovie should make iPhoto movies visible again, assuming they were not corrupted in some way. When you convert to iMovie 11 it upgrades the thumbnail files (but not the video clips) in such a way that is not backward compatible.

• Problem viewing videos I recorded with the phone

When trying to view videos I recorded with the phone, It gives me a message saying it is impossible to view this multimedia file format!
It has been recorded with the phone and it can't watch it on the phone!? It doesn't recognize its own recording format
Help please

If the format is in 3GP you can view it with a player called VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/), or can try a video conversion program to convert it into a format your computer can read. Once such program can be found here http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx

• How to view video clips on FaceBook?

FaceBook tells me I must download Flash Player to view video clips. Is Flash Player safe on a Mac?
I have researched this question in these Apple Support forums. I have searched the App Store and the Web. I found some good reports, some dire warnings about installing non-Apple apps, but nothing conclusive.
Please advise.

Adobe Flash Player Software is actually a plug-in and not an actual "player" or "application."  With this plug-in you will be able to view flash videos on Quicktime (with help from Perian) and VLC.  I believe Flip4Mac also.
After the installation, make sure you repair permissions and restart your computer prior to usage.

You got it right. I'm telling you to live with it. This problem has no consequence with Lenovo or Microsoft. It's just problem of your bandwidth or video-server bandwidth. Saying "something else" I meant "something else". Which word is new for you? It doesn't matter whether something downloaded by you or downloaded automatically - it maters if ANYTHING (this word means "anything") is being downloaded (this one means "download from the Internet") at the very same time you're going to see your video online. It (something that is being downloaded) eats up your bandwidth and your favourite video is  just caching slowly. If the problem occurs when you apparently do nothing with Internet but only watch video and it still caches for long , the problem is on server side and you can do nothing (exept calling them to server and yellign at them or biting them by phone).
With best regards, Sergej.
You're welcome.
Be happy.
P.S. Of cource there's a setting you can adjust! Call your provider and adjust setting "speed".

• Since upgrading to FF Ver. 24, I can no longer view videos/clips from fox News. What add-on do I need? Everything else seems to be working OK.

Since upgrading to ver. 24, I can no longer view the video clips from Fox News. the clip comes up but will not play. I don't have a problem using IE. I seldom use IE and FF is my main browser. What add-on or control do I need to rectify this situation? My e-mail is [email protected]
(email obfuscated - please be cautious with posting your email address - c)

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• Safari crashing viewing video clips with realPlayer plugin

I tried to watch video clips on the www.cbsnews.com site. The first time I selected a video I was asked whether I wanted to use Windows Media Player or RealPlayer. I chose RealPlayer. Now every time I try to play a video from this site Safari crashes.
Does anyone know how to deselect RealPlayer as the plugin for this site? Where is this information (choice of plugin) being stored?

iBod,
Thanks for the speedy reply. Two comments.
1) it is really difficult to paw through the huge number of cookies without a search function. I finally found and killed the cbsnews cookies and the Safari problem went away.
2) I have not had any success with Mozilla Firefox, however. I have deleted all cookies, but it seems to have RealPlayer hardwiredas its video viewer. Do you know how I can change that?

• Safari: How view video clips without Adobe Flash Player?

In OS 10.7.2 and with Safari 5.1.2 or Firefox 8.x  how does one view video without installing Adobe Flash Player?  On such websites as that of the New York Tines, I get a "Your System Status" dialogue box that says: "We're sorry!  You need to update your Flash Player."  A link appears in the dialogue box to "Get Adobe Flash Player."   What options does one have?
Thanks for considering my question.
Respectfully, NormN

Macs now do not ship with Adobe Flash installed. Did you buy your Mac with Lion or is your Mac the previous generation?  You have to do the installation yourself.  Click Get Adobe flash player.

• OK, so what's with viewing video clips on iPad?

So we got this iPad 2 already a while ago, and watching video clips has been always a challenge... YouTube has been working fine, Netflix movies -- perfect, but when going to different news or sports sites, even using those sites' apps — video clips mostly don't work, many times presenting the QuickTime icon on the screen (sometimes with audio, no video)...
I know there's been an everlasting issue with Flash Player and iPad, but isn't it time to find a workaround?  Am I missing something?
...Thanks...

I was more thinking of some plug-in that allows Flash Player to work on the iPad...  A browser, like Chrome or Safari means we can't use the apps that the media outlets have, and where we want to watch video clips...
As to your 2nd claim, I don't get it, I don't get Adobe's logic...

• Since upgrade to 10.4.0.80 itunes crashes whilst optimising video clips recorded on iPhone.

Hi,
I tend to move any video clips from camera roll to a pictures folder with the rest of the photo's to prevent a very large backup folder.
Following the latest update to Itunes (10.4.0.80)  ITUNES now crashes when it tries to optimise the clips.
Is this a bug in the current release or is there a way around.
I had several movies in the folder which would sync fine following the latest clips being removed.
I removed these and now they can not be put back without Itunes crashing when it sync's to my Iphone and they are optimised again.
I would like to get these video clips back onto the phone.
Any help would be good.
Cheer

Found an easy to do/use workaround to this buggy update from Apple.(which will do at least until they fix it)
Create a new folder in your pictures folder called Videos.
Move all of your video files into that folder.
Un-check include videos under Photos in Itunes for your phone.
In Itunes go to File > Add Folder To Library and select the newly created folder "Videos"
Check all of your videos under Films in Itunes for your phone (which will now have them all added)
Sync your phone and they will all be in your Ipod Videos section.
When it's fixed just swap them back to where they were originally, remove the folder and delete the movies.
Hope this help
