Viewer on 2nd Monitor Problem

I just upgraded FCPX to 10.06 and when I show "viewer on 2nd monitor" the image is all screwed up and distorted,  almost like it lost sync.  This has never happened before.  Has anyone had this happen after upgrading FCPx??

I checked the connections. If I output the event viewer to the second monitor then its all correct.  I've found a work around but it's very strange.  I had the second monitor on top of the main monitor in the display preferences for monitor arrangement. When I move the 2nd monitor to the right of the main monitor in the preferences and quit FCPX and re-open FCPX, it then works fine.  I never had this issue before I upgraded to the next version 10.06.  Try putting your 2nd monitor on top of the main monitor (in the display preferences) and then output the Viewer to the 2nd monitor.  Curious if you get the same problem.

  • Lightroom 4.2 - Experiencing problems with images viewed on 2nd monitor

    Hi All,
This problem seems to have started with my updating from 4.1 to 4.2.  I have my second monitor set as Loupe - Normal and Fit.  As I crop an image on my main monitor, the 2nd monitor view does not always change to the cropped view.  If I switch to a different photo and then back to the one I just cropped, the 2nd monitor view will then show the cropped image, but it is almost always blurry.  Sometimes I can click the image in the 2nd monitor view to change to a 1:1 view and it will look sharp, and then click again back to Fit and then it too will be sharp.  Other times I get a message in the 2nd monitor view that says "no image selected" and bouncing back and forth between a different image will correct this.
This all started off with the majority, but not all cropped images showing as blurred and progressed to what I have described above.  I seriously though I had a focus problem with my camera!
Is anyone else experinecing this since updating?  Suggestions?
Below is the suggested information to provide...
    What version of Lightroom? 4.2
Have you installed the recent updates? Yes, 4.2
What operating system? Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
What kind(s) of image file(s)? All images are converted to .dng upon import
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)? No error messages.
What were you doing when the problem occurred? I am in the develop module cropping images etc.
What other software are you running? Silver Efex Pro 2, but I have had that installed in many prior versions of Lightroom
Tell us about your computer hardware. How much RAM is installed? 32 GB - Yes, I know - overkill...
How much free space is on your system (C:) drive? 119 GB of 223 GB of my solid state drive c:\
Has this ever worked before? Yes
If so, do you recall any changes you made to Lightroom, such as adding Plug-ins, presets, etc.? No other changes other than updating to 4.2
Did you make any changes to your system, such as updating hardware, printers or drivers, or installing/uninstalling any programs?  No, no other changes.
    Thanks!

  • Lightroom 4.3 - Focus problems with images viewed on 2nd monitor

I had this problen on 4.2 and heard there was a fix, but alas the problem has cropped up for me agian.  2nd monitor in Loupe Mode.  It doesn't seem to render the image, it's just soft, on the verge of pixalation. The quickest solution is to quit LR and re-satrt and it works for a while.

  • 2nd monitor problems

I am using a Samsung SyncMaster 243T for my primary monitor and an ACER AL2051W for my second monitor. I bought a mini-DVI adapter which allows me to send a cable to my second monitor which now works. Unfortunately, it is acting strangely. When I drag something across the screen, it stutters and resists, occasionally freezing.
I primarily do video editing. My card slots are assigned: 4 for my external RAID (my editing RAID), 3 for my KONA card (video) and 1 for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 that came with the computer (and was already installed in the 1 card slot).
I also am finding that Final Cut Pro operates much slower on this computer than it did on my old Mac Pro which was dual-core.
Based on this information, does anyone have any idea why I may be having these problems? I was told that the next operating system and the FCP upgrade will take more advantage of the 8-core processors, but it still strikes me as strange that my new computer is slower than my old one in the key areas of my business.
    Thanks.

Wish I could move this to the "Displays" section, so pretend it was, and look in there, and it sure seems like
Not all monitors take kindly to the adapters, especially 3rd party
There have been a number of problems reported with Dell, HP, Viewsonic and other monitors with the 2009 and display adpaters
Not all DVI adapters are built the same
The GT120 seems to have trouble with two displays
As long as you came from Mac Pro (2006-7?) and not a G5, it should be safe and work fine even if you used Migration Assistant.
Then hope that your external RAID (my editing RAID - +what make?+ ), 3 for my KONA card (are all 2009 / 10.5.7 happy and compatible.
You could try one by one working with one monitor only, no adapter and see how that performs, then swap to other monitor and using an adapter. After that, if it isn't okay, then try to see if removing KONA unless you know it is definitely not a problem based on other's reports. And lastly, that your RAID controller and drivers are up to snuff (not all are, but worth testing).

  • MS/UB 12.0.1 BUG? Cannot set order of magnitude (GHz-MHz-kHz) in bode plotter if viewed in 2nd monitor

(Win 7 laptop with external monitor connected.  Desktop streched across both monitors.)
I have MS open and maximized in the external monitor.  If I double-click the bode plotter, the bode plotter window opens in the external monitor as expected, and all controls seem to work correctly and bode plot graphic seems to work correctly.  I just can't adjust the order of mag indication (GHz-MHz-kHz, etc.) for any of the initial or final value selectors, when the bode plotter window is in the external monitor.  If I drag the bode plotter window down to the laptop monitor, it works as expected.
    Regards,
    Who

    Hello,
I can see the bode plotter window equally as well in either monitor.  The problem is, the controls for changing from Hz to kHz, etc, do not work when the bode plotter appears on the external monitor, but they do when the bode plotter appears on the built-in monitor.  The issue is getting the software to work correctly when a user runs the software on a computer that has more than one monitor.

  • Best 2nd monitor for iMac Intel 20"

A few months back I stumbled upon a great article comparing Apple and 3rd party monitors that could match up well with the iMac Intel 20".. of course I can't find it now that I'm using actually using this iMac. I'm curious to hear your experiences/views on 2nd monitors that match up well for this specific computer. Thanks

There is a MiniDVI output port on this iMac. Simply purchase one of the following adaptors and configure the dual display in Apple menu > System Preferences... > Displays. (The options appear when you connect the display):
    Mini DVI - DVI
    Mini DVI - VGA
    Mini DVI - Composite/S-Video.
DVI will also certainly provide the best picture quality but the exact choice of display depends on your budget and intended usage. For example budget LCD displays are inappropriate for work that requires colour accuracy.
Your iMac will support displays with the following resolutions:
    Digital resolutions up to 1920 x 1200.
    Analogue resolutions up to 2045 x 1536

  • HT1338 cannot connect my MacBook Air to a projector  -does not detect and 2nd monitor. I have a new Mini port to VGA cable made by apple. When I read online I see that many people have the same problem - Is this an Apple defect??????????????????

I cannot connect my MacBook Air to a projector - It will not detect a 2nd monitor or display. I am using an Apple made Mini Display port to VGA adapter. As I read online I see that many other peple are having the same problem. Is this an Apple defect!!???? If so it just burst the bubble about how great macs are. I never had a problem with that on a PC. I hope I am wrong. What can you tell me?

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • 2nd monitor & app problem

i copied and pasted this from another mac forum... there was no reply. sometimes i have the same problem with apps such as cdxtract, battery 3 and Kontakt 3 in standalone mode.
Not Logic related but any ideas coz this can be very annoying if i forget to drag from 2nd monitor to the mac before hand.
I have a 2nd monitor attached to my Mac and if open an app Window on the 2nd monitor the next time I start the app the Window always defaults to the 2nd monitor (even if the 2nd monitor is turned off). Since I don't always remember that the app was opened on the 2nd monitor I would like a way to force the app to default to the primary monitor so I don't always need to turn on the 2nd monitor

The second screen is an extention of the primary screen and when you switch spaces, both will change to a different space.
There is a solution, but it requires associating the app with All spaces in System Preferences > Expose & Spaces > Spaces tab > Assign the app to Every Space.  Then as you can spaces that app is present on all spaces.
    Regards,
    Captfred
If you don't want the browser in the primary monitor for all spaces, then use two different browsers.  Safari for the primary browser and Firefox for the browser moved to external display.  Then define Firefox in all spaces and Safari to only one.

  • MacMini (2011) problem with Thunderbolt display if 2nd monitor is connected via HDMI/DVI adapter

    Hi,
    iam running a MacMini (2011) 2.3GHz i5 with Mac OS X 10.7.4 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 256 GB Samsung SSD.
If i connect a Thunderbolt display only - all is fine.
But if i connect a 2nd monitor ( Samsung S23A700) via HDMI / DVI adapter (original Apple) the major screen (Thunderbolt Display) sometimes
is going black and immidiately back to normal. It looks like that it happens very often if i scroll down with the Apple Magic Mouse.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Thomas

I have exactly the same problem. MacMini Server i7 (mid 2011) Macmini5.3.16Gb ram.
    Mini and Thunderbolt no blink-outs.
Mini and Thunderbolt and Dell 23" connected to HDMI-DVI connector, the Thunderbolt display blinks out when system is under stress as in the Develop module of Lightroom 4.
I thought it was a problem with my Thunderbolt display, and since its on a VESA mount, I didn't really want to haul in in to the Apple Store.  I decided to be sure it was the dosplay...
I borrowed a MacbookPro i7 and ran it from a clone of my Mini. No problems aster hours of use. (But with only ONE monitor.)  That suggested that there was no problem with the Thunderbolt Display.
I decided to run the Mini with only one display.  Again no problems. I plugged in the Second monitor to the HDMI port and within 2 minutes I had my first "Blink-Out".
I ran the rest of the day without the second monitor with no problems.
I conclude the mini will not work reliably with two monitors if one is a Thunderbolt.
I was using two Dell Monitors before I got the Thunderbolt Diskplay (for 3 months) without incident.

  • 2560 x 1600 is gone from my display settings (2nd monitor)

I've been running my 15" retina macbook pro for more than a year now with 27" DELL monitor and it has alway been using 2560x1600 resolution display.
In the past year i've had no issues with mirroring my screen to big screen TV using Apple TV, however today something weird happened.
As usual i mirrored my screen using Apple TV to watch some videos and i had to change some of the display settings to get the best view on my TV.
Afterwards i switched off the mirroring feature and now my 2nd monitor (DELL 27") is displaying 1920x1080 only. I looked at all my options on my display settings (using ATL+click ) and 2560x1600 is gone missing from the list. Im frustrated and couldn't find an answer to this problem, please advice.
    Couple things i tried;
    - restart & shutdown
    - reset NVRAM & PRAM settings
    - changed mini display cable with another
    - reset monitor settings
    Weird find:
I tried to mirrored  my macbook pro to apple TV again to see the display settings. Guess what, the option for 2560x1600 is now back on the list and working (visually) just fine. as soon as i turned off the airplay display my 2nd monitor turns back to 1920x1080.
Note: the display on my retina macbook pro is working just fine, no problem at all. this is only showing on my 27" DELL U2713HM.

Hello! Just want to ask about mirroring: when you MIRROR the Retina MBP 15" to your Dell Monitor (2560x1600) : do both the MBP and Dell Monitor look sharp and crisp?
    I'm asking because I'm also considering a monitor that's at 2560x1600.
    Thanks so much!

  • Preview Playback on 2nd Monitor

I am brand new to the Final Cut AND Mac World - just got my first Mac with Final Cut Studio two days ago.
I am having some problems getting preview playback on my 2nd monitor in RAW or full screen, neither work. What I get is the current frame of the timeline, no moving video and I get audio playback.
I have View -> All Frames checked (as opposed to single frame) but I get the same results as if single frame were checked.
My primary monitor with the standard final cut layout is an Apple 20" cinema, and the 2nd monitor is an older 17" Samsung.
I get the exact same result if I switch the full screen preview playback over to my Apple display. Just the current frame with audio playback.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

  • 2nd Monitor ICC profile in Acrobat 9

    Hi,
I have problem with iMac24" dual monitor setup and Acrobat 9 Pro. I can't get the second monitor ICC profile applied to the pdf document when dragged to the the second monitor. Had the same problem with PhotoShop CS4. I spent several day to figure out why the second monitor looks totally over saturated with PS CS4 (looked fine with PS CS3) and yes indeed the solution was to turn OFF OpenGL in PS preferences. Still have the same problem with Acrobat 9 Pro.  When the document is dragged to other monitor the ICC profile of that monitor is not applied. Any idea how to get that working as I can't find the OpenGL setting in Acrobat 9 . I have iMac24" and HP LP2475w as a secondary monitor which is wide gamut monitor which is far too over saturated without proper ICC. Any ideas?

    Jao...
Does the secondary monitor always assume it will open in the monitor which WinXP defines in settings as '2'?
The reason I ask, is that if I have the secondary monitor open as "full screen" it opens on the 2nd monitor.
However, I have a slightly different set up. I have my primary LR space stretched some into the 2nd monitor, so that the right hand panels are on the second screen. This gives me a larger space to view the images on the main screen. When I open the secondary LR space, it is not full screen, but sized to just fit in the rest of the available space on the second monitor....and I usually use this space for the 'grid' of thumbnails.
My concern is that if the secondary LR space is even slightly larger than the available space on the secondary monitor, it will pop up in the middle of the primary monitor. After much trial and error, I found the sizing solution and it works....
However, since it seems to open either in #1 or #2 screen, I still have this nagging question....and there is no way I know to query LR to know what ICC profile is being used.
    Thanks...JOHN

  • MacBook Pro performance issues w/2nd monitor and FCP7

I have this MacBook Pro bought brand-new in January 2010:
      Model Name: MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
      L2 Cache: 6 MB
      Memory: 8 GB
      Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
and until today had never attached a second monitor to it. Today I hooked up my Samsung 24" to do some dual screen editing in Final Cut 7.0.3. I was unable to play back my video at full speed in the second monitor, and after a few seconds of skippy playback I'd get that error message about unable to play back video at full speed and to check my RT settings. I was using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. My computer has no issues playing the video in the laptop's monitor at any resolution and any quality settings (I've never changed the RT settings or anything else in the menu ever but I tried every combination this time). I then tried using my TV as a 2nd monitor with an HDMI adapter. Same performance issues. I then tried my friend's newer 13" MBP 8,1 and it performed flawlessly with the same project & footage. I feel like my $3,000 computer should outperform a $1,200 one even if mine is a year and a half older. Any advice?
    Chris

Wow, you posted this perfectly to coincide with an identical problem, albeit using Logic Pro 9.1.5 rather than FCP.
Last week, I purchased a 23" external monitor to use alongside my "flagship" 2011 15" hi-res, 2.3 i7 Macbook Pro with 8Gb of RAM.
It is connected via a mini-DVI to D-sub analog (not that that should matter?) and all appeared fine.
The first issue I had was with my MBP's fan now running CONSTANTLY, when I have the second monitor attached. Even when the machine is completely idle.
When using the machine to record audio, this is a fairly hefty problem and not something I had anticipated - indeed why would I anticipate such a thing?
What is far, far worse though is that over the last few days I have had repeated problems with performance drop-outs and errors in Logic and I have trying to fathom out why. Realising that the only major system change made, was the above monitor connection, I ran some tests.
I restarted my MBP, no other apps were running and with my new 23" monitor attached acting as main display with MBP built in display on as secondary
I loaded up a fairly demanding Logic project which was hitting 40% to 60% CPU usage when using the built in MBP display last week
I ran activity monitor and had CPU usage history open
The above project now repeatedly overloads and playback halts in a given 8 bar section - with CPU at 80% most of the time
I disconnected the external display, no shut down, I just let the machine switch to the built in 15".
Started the same project, the same 8 bar section and hey presto - CPU usage back down to 40% to 60%
The above was reflected in the CPU usage history with the graph showing CPU use down by about a half, when running this Logic project WITHOUT the external display.
There is a very useful benchmark Logic project that has been used as a test by many users to gauge Logic performance on given Apple hardware.
The project has about 100 tracks pre-configured with CPU intensive plugins, designed to tax the CPU.
The idea is that you load up the project with tracks muted, press play and then unmute the tracks steadily until Logic us unable to play contiunously because of a system performance error.
On my MBP, with the external monitor NOT attached, I can play back around 50 of the audio tracks in this benchmark project.
With the monitor attached, I can get about 22 tracks playing.... which is actually a far worse a performance drop (-50% I think!?) than with the first example!
I did also try with just the external monitor attached and not the MBP display and performance was about 10% better than with dual monitors - so still extremely poor, to say the least.
This machine is the flagship MBP and has a dedicated AMD Radeon HD6750 GPU which should take care of most if not ALL graphics processing - I mean it's capable of running some pretty demanding games!
Putting aside the issue of constant fan noise, there is no reason AT ALL, why using an external monitor should tax the i7 CPU this way - it's not as though Logic is graphically demanding... far from it.
I am on 10.6.8, Logic 9.1.5, all apps up to date via "Software Update".
I will of course, be contacting Apple...

  • 2nd Monitor won't work

I bought a Pavillion p6210f last week with Win7 loaded to replace my Dell/Vista.  I was using two monitors with a VGA port and DVI port on the old PC, so I tried plugging in the same on my new HP and the DVI would not fit.  In examining the pins I found that, althought the Manual said DVI, but the plug has the pin/bar arrangement of a DVI-D.   So, I bought a VGAto DVI-D adapter and everything plugged in snuggly.  All pins and bar appear a match.
But, it won't work.  This is what is showing
NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller   HP RC Mirror Driver [Display adapter]
    NVIDIA GeForce 9100 [Display adapter]
    Acer P241W [Monitor] (24.0"vis, s/n LB4040014320, March 2008)the one working monitor....
After hours with the 800 support and hours of reversing the two Acer monitors, the DVI-D port is simply dead.  Anything plugged in to the VGA works fine, anything and any combination plugged into the DVI-D and cable switching etc. the 2nd monitor  is not even recoginized.  The NVIDIA control panel doesn't recognize it. The amber power light just stays that way and nothing ever flashes on the 2nd screen.  That is, it is the same as not plugging in at all.
I was less than pleased when 800 tech and supervisor suggested I take it to a repair center.  A week old?  I have put way too much setup and data transfer into the new HP to go back to the retailer for a replacement.
Techs didn't know, but could there be a DVI-X with the same pins that also fits

Eldric, did you update to the latest video driver from nVidia?  It sounds to me like a driver problem.  Update and let us know if that solves your problem.
