Viewing animated gifs in Mail 3.2

We got an animated gif in our email. It works fine in my mail box using mail 2.1.3 (powerbook G4 10.4.11) but not on my wife's Mail 3.2 (macbook 10.5). Any fixes for that?

  • Viewing Animated GIF files in Preview

    Hello...
I'm trying to figure out why I cannot view animated GIF files within Preview. When I search within Preview's help I get this...
*1. Open the animated GIF file in Preview.*
*2. If the window's drawer isn't already visible, choose View > Drawer.*
*The drawer contains a thumbnail image for the animated GIF. The number of frames in the animation appears in the lower-right corner.*
*3. Click the triangle beside the thumbnail image.*
*Preview shows all the frames in the animated GIF. When you click a frame, the animation stops and Preview displays that frame.*
Now at the end of number 3 it states that "the animation stops", so according to that statment Preview should be "playing" the animation until I click a certain frame to stop it. Well mine doesn't do this, SO what's going on?
Oh, my OS is v10.4.10 and Preview is v3.0.9(409).
    Thanks!

Preview in Panther did play animated gifs, although it was a bit clunky at it. Evidently they intended to fix this in Tiger, but instead they ended up breaking it completely. To play an animated gif you now need to do so in a browser, such as Safari. Preview no longer plays them at all.

  • Animated gif in mail are not visible after upgrade to mavericks

    Hi,
I use a animated gif in my signature in mail. This gif was playing normally (like a animated gif) in mountain lion when I writes a new message. After upgrading to mavericks I can't see the animated gif playing. I just see the first frame. However when I send a mail to my iPad using iOS 7 the animated gif is playing normally.
    Thanx for every answer!

I'm having this issue as well — I can no longer send animated gifs in Mail with Mavericks (10.9.0). The image retains its full image size and remains a gif format, but does not play, just sits static. This also affects forwarding animated gifs — which play fine in the mail window — they are static in the compose window and are sent static.

  • Viewing animated GIF's in Bridge

Apparently this has been an issue for a while and I don't understand why it hasn't been fixed yet, but please Adobe can you add support for previewing animated gifs in Bridge? It's ridiculous that a supposedly catch-all media browser like Bridge can't even preview this particular file type.

Agreed. Please allow Bridge to see animated GIFs in the Preview panel. We
    know
it's possible. There was a build of Bridge that supported it, then it was removed:

    Hi,
Bridge currently previews the animation in the Preview window.

  • Viewing animated gifs in preview

Anyway to view animated gifs in preview, or is there just some "play" or "animate" button i'm just not seeing?

The Tiger version of Preview was supposed to work better with animated gifs than the Panther version. Unfortunately instead of improving it they broke something and it doesn't work at all. Thus far no fix has come out in the Tiger updates. Send Apple feedback:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/
The more people who complain the more likely it is to get fixed.

  • How to view animated gif files?

When I open them in Preview, each frame of the animation is displayed as its own image, rather than displaying as an animation.

Really? What's the secret? I tried using the Open dialog box and also drag 'n drop onto the TextEdit icon. But all either got me was an unhelpful view of the binary code for the gif. I ask because I keep looking for an easy way to see the animation--I have animated gifs turned off in both Firefox and Safari, since 99% of the time they just drive me nuts, which means in order to view that 1 in a 100 (actually more like 1 in 10000) animation I would like to see I have to launch Opera.

  • Viewing animated GIFs in the Finder and Preview

I was wondering why my animated gif images do not play while I view them in the preview in the Finder or Preview. I know it plays when I view gifs in Explorer and was wondering why doesn't the Finder/Preview.
I would really like to be able to view the animated gifs without having to open either Safari or Fire Fox to view them.
    Thanks

    Welcome to Discussions.
Apparently Preview lost that functionality a few versions ago. And Quicklook also doesn't seem to do it. Someone said that Pathfinder plays them, http://www.cocoatech.com.
If you don't want to use a "big" program like Safari or Quicktime, then your best bet is to use a quick and easy image viewer like Xee http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/xee.html.
Set it as default application by selecting a gif file, press cmd-I. Choose Xee under Open with and click Change all.

  • No Animated GIFs in Mail

I know this is minor compared to some issues I see posted but Mail 3.0 no longer displays animated GIFs. I sent one through Gmail and it didn't display. I checked it in my webmail in Gmail and it displays fine. Something in Mail 3.0 is stopping the proper display of animated GIFs. Anyone have an idea. All my settings are correct. A bug?

to me this is NOT a small issue. I am getting so darn frustrated with Leopard that I am considering just throwing it away and going back to Tiger or panther whatever i had. the gifs don't move. iCal really *****. bad enough that Preview makes you take it out and click to see it move but in email... all my gifs are gone even though they say gif, they do not show up animated and the ones that still are animated, which are very few do not move embedded in the mail. you have to take it out and then press the arrows. I am very very disappointed in Leopard..... too many bugs.... sorry very frustrated. thanks.. if anyone knows please let me know. thanks, sally

  • How come I can't view animated gifs as animations...in websites that have..

them they are animated, but if i dwnld them, the animations stop running...and preview just allows me to view each of the still frames that make up the animation, but nothing seems to make it run...say i want it to run on my desktop for example? how would i do this?
    any ideas? thanks!

ok..so far that is the closest to what i'm looking for..thanks my friend...so now my final question reclarified....on the desktop, as in files or program icons i have on the desktop..if i have a gif, that is just stored on my desktop..is there no way to animate it just directly on the desktop without having an internet app open as a transparent window? does that make sense...like wherever finder has the preview icon open for the animated gif....depending on how you have your view options of course, is there a way to have THAT animated? or is that just not possible at this stage?
and a secondary question i guess...which the more i think about it is really just another way of wording the exisitng one...is ther eany way independent of internet browser to watch a gif animation?

  • View Animated GIF

I have over 5000 icons, animated gifs, etc and would like to be able to preview these in Bridge with the animation.

    Hi,
Bridge currently previews the animation in the Preview window. Are you asking to have animated gifs run animated in the main browser window?
    Regards,

  • Suggestion to Apple: Animated GIF's in mail.

[Note: I would prefer to not hear one response from an apple user stating "animated gifs are ugly I'm glad it doesn't work." I too hate them, but read on...]
I recently helped a family of PC users switch to a Pentium iMac. I do their tech support and this has made my life SO much easier
The wife loves sending stupid little animated gifs back and forth to her friends... it's not for us to judge if they're ugly or annoying, they like them. Period.
I am so ashamed to have to go to her when I return her computer today and say "I'm sorry, this awesome and capable computer I have set you up with is unable to play back simple Animated GIF's.
I trust in Apple... playing back an animated gif should NOT be a major security threat. Make it work. Of course I could switch her back to Thunderbird but then that breaks her Address Book as well.

If her friends are using Outlook Express, then it should work. Here is an excerpt from:
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-19275.html
    a) Apple Mail can embed animated Gifs in Mime Format Mails, but it doesn't show them animated itself! This means if you send such a Mail to a user with e. g. Outlook Express, he will see the Gif with it's animation, although Apple Mail didn't show it!
    b) Even more interesting is this: when a user with Outlook Express sends you an Mail with embeded animated Gif, Apple Mail also shows the animation! Why is this, you may ask? It's because Outlook Express sends the Mail as HTML with MIME Attachment and also does a URL "CID:" reference in the HTML code to the actual embeded animated Gif! Quite nifty!
    --- End Quote ---
You can read the site for more information.
The other option is to just use MS-Entourage.
Entourage can synchronize with Apple's Address Book. And, it's naturally going to have support built-in for Microsoft's methods.
As for making suggestions to Apple, you'll get better results by making the request to Apple directly.
They don't comb this discussion forum for ideas. And, tend to ignore what we say here.
So, go to their actual feedback page, and submit your request there:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/
At least then you know someone at Apple will actually read it.
There's no guarantee that they'll implement your request. But, you'll have a better chance if you submit your requests there.
Like all requests, the more people that want it, the more likely it will be added. So, get all your friends to request the feature if you want it.
Obviously, if the request comes repeatedly from the same person, they'll probably grow tired of it, and quit reading your requests. But, if several distinctively different people ask for something, they are very likely to consider it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Animated gif in signature

    Hey Guys
Is there any way of including a small animated gif in my signature?
I tried just copying and pasting but then only the first frame displays.
    Thanks in advance

  • Animated GIFs aren't

I can't view animated gif files ... neither in finder coverflow (which would be awesome) nor in preview.
I have to drag them to the browser to view the animations, which is unacceptable.
Is there a way to see the animations at least in preview ... or even in finders cover flow mode ?

Like, they do. If enough people are unhappy with something, and communicate their unhappiness, Apple has changed things. Case in point: stacks in the Dock killing the way people had been using folders in the Dock. The option to use folders reappeared in the first update to Leopard. Ditto for an UNtranslucent menu bar option. Whether something gets changed or not probably depends on a number of things: whether it is easy to fix, whether enough people are unhappy, why the the whatever-it-is is the way it is rather than another way. Since we can't know what prompted the state, nor probably how easy it is fix, we can only send our feedback and urge others to do the same, and hope enough complain to make it worthwhile for Apple to respond.

  • Lumia 920 animated GIF's

When emailing or texting from the Lumia 920, will users outside of Nokia be able to fully view animated GIF's?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Coolatta75,
I think I have found a solution for you. I have just tried this on my Lumia 920 and it works. Goto Photos then Camera Roll then open the Cinemagraph GIF and select ...
then select Save To Skydrive, and it will upload the GIF. If you are using Windows 8 (or if you don't have Windows 8, you can access SkyDrive on the web-based version), and download it and open it in Internet Explorer. It will work and play. Please remember that the recipient will always view it as a static MMS unless they have an app on their phone that can play animated GIF's, same applies to recipients who view it on their computer. I suggest sending it to their email and they can open it on their computer.
Let us know how you get on.
