Viewing asian / japanese encoding on N95 / S60

Hi,
I'm receiving mails encoded in "iso-2022-jp", and the e-mail program on my N95 can't show the text ('Conversion error'). Is there any way to fix this?
Please not these are NOT mails in Japanese. They are English but encoded with a different character set.
I HAVE installed the proper fonts to show web pages in Japanese and this works fine.
Thanks for your time!
Marc de Boer

Use a different email program that can handle that encoding. I don't know if there is any.
Maybe this app can help, too:

  • Error message Japanese encoding

    Hi,
Please help! I got this error message and can't fix it.
Error encountered while processing node xfa[0].form[0].Root[0].Letter1[0].Body[0].bodyLetter[0]. Unable to find suitable font for Japanese encoding.
Update to the latest version and still isn't running.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,

You get this when doing what?
Operating system?  Browser?  Reader version?  Do you have the Asian font pack installed?

  • Issues with Japanese encoding using Mail

Since recently (I would say since I updated to 10.6), I have an issue with Japanese-encoded (ISO 2022-JP) mails on my English MacOS.
I have no problem to read, edit and write answers to any mails.
However with some ISO JP-2022-JP encoded messages (sent with Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 (Windows/20090812) btw) I have the following misbehaviour:
    - if I send the message and let the encoding to "automatic", Mail sends the mail in UTF-8, which I do not want since most of Japanese computer do not understand UTF-8 by default (and the receiver gets panicked: "I can not read your mail T_T !")
    - if I set the encoding to "ISO JP-2022-JP", I can not send nor save the message (see [1] at the end of the post). One should note that the error message when saving is really misleading (and yes my hard-drive has a lot of space left) and it should be fixed by Apple.
    - if I dig a bit deeper, I can in effect find some characters in the original message which prevent Mail to send my mail. It however does not make any sense since:
    - those char were in the original message properly encoded in ISO JP-2022-JP
    - those char are always very common ones
The only solution I have found so far is to delete the original message in my mail, which is very frustrating...
A sample of such mail can be found at (I removed personal info. and the mail is about a drinking party):
    Help would be very appreciated.
    Thank you very much.

Thank you. I feel a bit stupid for not having looked in Wikipedia at first...
I sometime wonder how could such basic problem like charset not being solved after more than 40 years of computer science...
Here is a note that addresses that problem, but I don't think it works with 10.6. Might be worth a > try:

    Thank for the link.
It seems to still work: new japanese mails are now sent in "ISO 2022-JP-2".
However, for messages with the header explicitly specifying "ISO 2022-JP" (which should be "ISO 2022-JP-2" on my mac) it has no influence.
The only ways I see to solve this issue would be:
    i) to force "ISO 2022-JP-2" for all mails (a bit too extreme)
ii) to force the use of "ISO 2022-JP-2" instead of "ISO 2022-JP", but I do not think such precise configuration is possible
This mess appears to be due to Thunderbird which seems to mix "ISO 2022-JP-2" and "ISO 2022-JP", but I do not have any working Thunderbird to test now...

  • Im learning japanese @ Japaneseclass.jp and i cant view the japanese words or letters. All that pops up is the small box with numbers inside. Any help?

most foreign sites i go to are the same. i cant view anything except those little boxes => あ. it might show up for some but not mine and i have installed the Japanese language pack on windows regional and language settings but still nothing.

  • Asha series support view asian language characters...

i didn't own a asha phone. i am from malaysia.
can asha series support view those asian language like chinese, japanese, korean characters in web browser, music player?
can i switch different language interface? example chinese or japanese interface?
is that also include those asian input method in the asha os? i can switch to chinese input method and type chinese characters? or switch to japanese input method type?

Not aware of any Nokia Feature Phone still supporting Japanese. Furthermore, Nokia Belle (Nokia 700), Series 40 (Nokia 310) and Asha Software Platform (Nokia 502) come with a set limited to very few languages around Malaysia, that depends on the firmware variant (product code) of the bought phone. Nokia Care is able to flash to another product code, but cannot create any combination of language packs. They have to find a product code which contains your desired language packs.
Therefore, I recommend to go for a Nokia Lumia phone. These use Windows Phone as operating system and within that, you are able to add Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Malay by yourself. And switching between them, is done with on tap on the keyboard.

  • Viewing Chinese Characters / Encoding setting in SQL Developer

    Hi all,
I am new to SQL Developer 1.1. I have just downloaded the tool yesterday.
I have a table where there "should" be chinese characters in a NVARCHAR2 column. But I see only inverted question marks when displaying that data in SQL Developer.
I know from a ressource on the web, that SQL Developer is able to display chinese characters ( see http://awads.net/wp/2006/07/06/sql-developer-and-utf8/ ).
The NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET is set to AL16UTF16; the NLS_CHARACTER_SET is set to WE8ISO8859P1.
The encoding under Tools->Preferences->Environment is set to "Cp1252".
What is actually the influence of this Encoding setting and do I have to make changes to that to view the data?
In addition I have to admit, that we actually do not really know if the data entered the DB correctly, that is as chinese characters. Maybe there have occured conversion errors that were made in a application that writes the data into the database. Actually I want to verify that. So, if I have the right settings configured which should be fine to see chinese characters and then I see only inverted question marks I can conclude that the data actually entered the database corrupted and the error is not an display issue with SQL Developer but rather an error in the application that writes the data to the database.
Thanks to any answers in advance!

    Philipp Hinnah

  • Creating File in Shift-JIS, Japanese Encoding for EFT

    Hi,
We need to do EFT for the data which is present in Shift-JIS(JA16SJIS), Japanese characterset.
    Our database is having
    NLS_CHARACTERSET -- UTF8
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET -- AL16UTF16
File needs to be sent to the bank in the Shift-JIS format, I need to know how we can generate a file in this encoding?
    Please help?
    Thanks,
    Priyanshu

    Welcome to the Forum,
I assume you mean Electronic Funds Transfer under EFT because of mentioning a bank. (but please note wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EFT does not have this one but defines several others)
Okey so you would need to convert the character set.
And this may depends on the tool you use to generate the output files.
Lets see how I would do this in a linux env:
If you have a modern linux environment you most likely have utf8 characterset as environment character set. So to match this you would setup NLS_LANG to this utf8 accordingly.
see more here: The correct NLS_LANG setting in Unix Environments [ID 264157.1] https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&id=264157.1&type=NOT
This way you can get UTF8 output files from the oracle client tools without any other change I think.
Finally you can convert this file with another tool. e.g. command line tool like "iconv" or "recode"
    OR
You can try to get oracle client to do this conversion for you. It should do this automatically.
but you would need to setup both OS locale and NLS_LANG to your Japanese character set and see if it does work or not. You may feel that I'm not 100% sure here...
    OR
You can try to use inbuilt CONVERT oracle function if you use an application server or other tool but not an standard client...

  • Japanese encoding problem?

    Hi,
I have a site in Japanese and iWeb '08 renders all the filenames in Japanese. Everything seems to work fine on .Mac, but when I put it on the live server, three pages out of the 12 come up 404. It's really odd, what they seem to have in common is the katakana character プ in the filenames. Anyone have an idea what could be going on?
    Thanks...

Some servers do not like filenames that are not in ascii. See the Accented Characters section of this page for some info:

  • Japanese Encoding Problem on iOS

Hi, Did anyone ever use Mobage Japanese plugin for Unity ios? I am building Unity iOS game for Mobage platform. There is a method (MobageJPService.shareMessage (message, title, pictureUrl, dismissCB)) to share message to iOS e-mail, twitter and Line, but when I pass Japanese strings, but it shows up with lots of question marks. Any solutions or suggestions?

If you are using third party tools, you will have to ask them for support. It is very unlikely that anyone here knows anything about them.

  • Japanese encoding issue

This line of code used to work perfectly for me in iOS7 and earlier iOS versions, but now in iOS8 it stopped working (returned null):
    [myString stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSJapaneseEUCStringEncoding]
There are many issues related to EUC-JP encoding as well. Could someone help with this please?
    Thanks a lot!

That method is meant to be used with URL encoding. It wouldn't be safe to use it with anything other than UTF-8.

  • Mp3 tag viewer with text encoding/decoding purpose

    I'm want suggest some idea:
Let assume that we have many mp3 files with cyrillic or some else non ascii tags in different encodings. And let assume that each file may have several encodings (eg cp1251 for album and utf-8 for title). Programs like EasyTag is not convenient for such case.
So idea: draw all tags for many files in simple table and decode what you want on the fly, independently for field, not whole file.

  • Type Japanese in code view of DW  CS3

    Hi,
I have a form for submitting answers to questions at my
Japanese website. The form is an .aspx file.
I want to be able to type some Japanese that would show up on
the form. When viewers see the Japanese (it's a question for them
to answer), then they type in Japanese in the form response
    section.
My problem is that I cannot see the form properly in design
view of DW CS4 but I can easily find and change the correct line in
CODE view. But, in code view I can't type in Japanese. I keep
    getting the error mentioned below.
So.....is there some way to be able to type in Japanese in
code view, so that the question I am typing shows up?
The error that shows up is:
The document's current encoding can not correctly save all of
the characters within the document. You may want to change to UTF-8
or an encoding that supports the special characters in this
    document.
How do I change to UTF-8 coding, etc.so I can type in CODE
    view in Japanese????
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

  • Some japanese character encoded to "?". Please help me..

    My system is below listed.
    J2SE 1.4.1
    MySql Ver 11.18 Distrib 3.23.52,
    Resin 2.1.4
Java application load html document encoded 'SHIFT_JIS' using HtmlURLConnection.
And read the document in 'SHIFT_JIS'.
Almost it appears properly but some of characters printed in '?'.
    hm....
I will show my source code.
    private String readDocument(URL url) {
    String METHOD_NM = ".readDocument()";
    try {
    HttpURLConnection URLCon = (HttpURLConnection)url.openConnection();
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader( new InputStreamReader(url.openStream(), "SJIS"));
    String inputLine;
On my web server, input the character(printed '?') on textbox in IE6(japanese language pack). and submit. then the character translated the code(ex> #4575; )
The code inserted DB. select from DB the tuple.
and display the IE6. it's ok.
but loaded from japanese html. It's inserted to DB '?'.
    and displayed '?' on IE6.
I want to translate the character to code(ex> #5455;).
    OK?
    Please reply...
p.s I'm sorry my poor english..

    Thank you for reply.
    but I've already tried that.
I have tried all japanese encoding of "Supported Encodings" from java.
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/guide/intl/encoding.doc.html
    I want to convert that.
    ex)
    ?fe? => & # 4532; fe & # 3456; => original charcater is removed blank
This is convert '?' to code number.
In this case '?' is Japanese character.
Please let me know the way..

  • Mouse flickers after encoding. Shifts. Lags. Viewer and timeline.

After encoding, noticed that the mouse cursor flickers while watching the encoding in FCP 7 viewer. Parts of the encoding had jerky motions. A previous time, this led to color shifts and other anomolies in the canvas, which disappeared after a cold boot.
Used uncompressed 8-bit PAL codec (yes, we're in SD), but I think that another time it occurred after encoding an M2V file.
Today once the FCP viewer with the encoding was closed, the mouse stopped flickering.
This is the second or third time I have had this with or after encodings over the past several months.
Sorry for the lack of detail. I have not troubleshot this carefully. I don't know exactly where or even if the encoding is actually damaged. The previous time, it became worse the longer the machine stayed on. That time, even the timeline in FCP had the same problem, and it seemed like the sequence had been seriously damaged, but later after a cold restart, there was no damage to the timeline.
