Viewing Camera Metadata

I have a D200 and a SB800 flash unit. I am trying to view metedata in regards to the setting of the SB800 external fash unit. I notice that when I import pictures from my camera I can view the fash exposure compensation of the pop up flash. I would like to be able to know what compensation the external flash was set to.
It does not seem to matter how I use the falsh, either a TTL unit in the shoe of the camera or a remote using comander mode, the settings are not imported as metadata.
Any Advise??
Thanks,
Kevin

Are you certain they're not in there? Be sure you're viewing the expanded metadata view -- there is lots more EXIF info in there but you have to get out of the basic template to see it.
I certainly know that I can get notice that the flash did fire... I don't know that I really have paid enough attention to know whether it was at say -1/2 stop exposure compensation.

  • Way to view camera-specific metadata

Is there a way to view camera specific metadata? My camera has a variety of fields that include the mode the camera was using when the picture was taken. This is not part of the standard EXIF/IPTC I believe, so bridge doesn't display it. I know it's there because other programs such as OPANDA's IEXIF does display it.
    Thanks!
    Carlos

    Curt and Jim,
    Thanks for your responses.
I do get all the "standard" fields like exposure settings and focal length. And I know how to set the preferences to display or not display any of the standard fields
    b that Adobe knows about.
However, there are other fields that my camera uses. For instance, my wife often takes pictures in Canon "vivid" mode. I have used the
    i exiftool
utility, and I cantell that the metadata actually has an entry called "My Color Mode" that tells me the picture was taken with vivid or normal. Similarly another entry will tell me whether the picture was part of a panoramic (and even whether it was left to right or right to left) or the fact that drive mode was in "single shot"
In other words, Canon actually puts in there just about every setting the camera has. Not surprising, Adobe doesn't know about all of these settings, and one wouldn't expect it to, given the huge amount of cameras on the market.
The question was whether there is an extension or some other way to "train" Adobe products to recognize other data that may be in the file. Exiftool is great for checking one or two pictures, but its command line interface doesn't lend itself well to working with the actual picture at the same time.

  • Can I view full metadata in iPhoto?

In iPhoto, when I display metadata (using "Show Photo Info"), the info displayed is only a small portion of complete metadata embedded in photos. I know the full metadata is being imported with the photos into iPhoto because I am able to view full metadata from photos exported from iPhoto and uploaded to FLICKR, or opened in Nikon ViewNX, etc.
I am using iPhoto '08. Do later versions of iPhoto display full metadata?
Thank you in advance for any help on this.

Try using EXIF Viewer.  You can drag the photo from the iPhoto open window onto the EXIF Viewer icon in the Dock and you'll get this window:
The screenshot is for a simple Canon so the flash info is basic.  If you camera offers more flash info it might be readable.  Give it a try.  You can download it from  Toad's Cellar.

  • Can't view Camera RAW files in Bridge or Photoshop CS4 after upgrading to Mac Mavericks X OS.

After upgrading my Mac operating system to Mavericks X I can no longer view Camera RAW images on either Bridge or Photoshop CS4!
I'd already fixed the issue of not even being able to launch Photoshop by installing Apple's Java applet, but this doesn't seem to have helped with the Camera RAW situation.
I've tried invoking "Update" in both Bridge and Photoshop, and both indicate there are no updates.
I even went to Adobe's Camera RAW area, and downloaded and installed the Camera RAW plugin specifically for my cameras (Canon 5D Mk ii) and Photoshop CS4, and that hasn't helped at all!
I feel that it's just another silly Java applet, but I haven't any idea how to proceed from here!
    HELP!
    Thank you,
    Bob

Did you download and install the camera raw 5.7 update?
Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 5.7 update
There are also other updates you should install, such as 11.0.2 for photoshop and the bridge output module update, if you need them.

  • How do I view XMP metadata in Adobe Reader?

How do I view XMP metadata in Adobe Reader?
I've created a PDF which (I believe) includes XMP metadata, and I'd obviously like to check that it's been done correctly.  However it's not obvious how to view this within Adobe Reader (I'm using 11.0.04 on OS X).  Googling around, I've found an off-hand remark that Reader isn't able to do this, but this is obviously insane -- what's the point of licensing metadata if no-one can see it?  What is it I'm missing?
    Best wishes,
    Norman

I've put a PDF at http://nxg.me.uk/temp/part1.pdf This does display/print perfectly OK in both Reader and in OS X Preview.  I presume that the /Root object (254) is inside one of the ObjStm streams (yes?), as (presumably) are the /Page streams and the reference to the /Metadata object, 52.
Regarding scanning, Part 3 of the XMP spec, Sect 1.2 says "It is always best to use format-aware file parsing when possible. Lacking this information, applications can find XMP packets by scanning the file."  Also, in Sect. 1.2.1, "A file should be scanned byte-by-byte until a valid header is found."   Finally, ISO-32000-1 Sect. 14.3.2, Note 3, says "[The XMP spec] includes a method to embed XML data within non-XML data files in a platform-independent format that can be easily located and accessed by simple scanning rather than requiring the document file to be parsed."  So it would appear that this metadata packet _should_ be found.

  • Canon XF camera metadata in CS6

    Hello,
Can  you see camera metadata, like Shutter Speed, F Number, Gain, Color Temperature etc. from Canon XF files, directly in Premiere Pro? I can't find this properties in Metadata Display menu.

...if I can see it in Premiere Pro, updating dinamicaly when I scrub or play selected file in timeline.
    That would be nifty!

  • Smart View internal metadata error when creating SmartView reports

    Hi all,
I have a really strange problem when trying to use HsGetValue -functions in Smart View (in Excel 2010).
The thing is that I can create a lot of formulas for a sheet that have links to other sheets. However, in some pont (I don't exactly when it happens), I quite randomly get an error in Excel saying "This workbook contains Smart View internal metadata that needs to be repaired. This will automatically be repaired but may take some time". This error box appears a few times, I just click it and then it disappears. Obviously, this is annoying and the Excel is unusable.
Usually it happens when I try to format the sheet or add, e.g., company logo into the sheet, or try to do a bit more difficult linking of the cells.
Any ideas what is going on here? Smart View version is 11.1.2.1.103 (Build 100).
    Thanks in advance!

Please take a look at KB ID 1432526.1. I've copied the text below.
    Applies to:
Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 11.1.2.1.102 and later [Release: 11.1 and later ]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
    Symptoms
The following message is displayed when opening the Smart View files:
This workbook contains Smart View internal metadata that needs to be repaired. This will automatically be repaired but may take some time.
It may take a long time to open or save the Smart View templates.
    Changes
Smart View has been installed by a user different, than the one that is currently logged on the workstation, i.e. service account or installation account.
    Cause
When the user accesses Smart View for the first time, on a workstation where the SmartView has been installed by another user, the following registry key will be missing in the user's profile:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hyperion Solutions\HyperionSmartView\Preferences]
    "UseStorageCompression"=hex:01
    "SelectedOptionTab"=hex:02
If SmartView is installed by a different user i.e. service account or installation account, then the user profile registry will be missing "UseStorageCompression" and "SelectedOptionTab", resulting in a incorrect saving of file metadata.
    Solution
Follow the steps below to automatically create the required registry keys for the current user profile:
1.Open Excel and select Smart View menu.
2.Click the "Options" icon to open the Options window.
3.In the "Advanced" tab, under the "Compatibility" section make sure the "Reduce Excel File Size" option is selected and click OK.
4.The following Windows Registry keys will be created under user profile, enabling proper compression of the metadata:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hyperion Solutions\HyperionSmartView\Preferences]
    "UseStorageCompression"=hex:01
"SelectedOptionTab"=hex:025.Now the user should be able to open the smartview template without the error message.
6.Additionally it is also recommended to select the "Improve Metadata Storage" option in the Smart View Options window which will create the following registry key:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hyperion Solutions\HyperionSmartView\Preferences]
    "IgnoreShapes"=hex:01

Try rebooting the phone by pressing and holding the on/off and home buttons simultaneously until the screen goes blank and you see the apple logo. It should take about 10-15 seconds to reboot.

  • Tool to view CIP4 metadata in PDF

    Dear All,
Is there any tool available that can show the CIP4 metadata written to a PDF document.
Using the PDFVT InDesign sample plug-in I had written the metadata to a PDF file. I had followed the instructions given in the InDesign CHM help file to create the PDF with CIP4 metadata.
I had opened the PDF in Acrobat Professional 9, but did not find the metadata.
Is there any tool to view the metadata?

I did a Google search and found this thread from about a year ago:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/836604#3606384
It looks like there is no support within InDesign (and probably Acrobat) beyond supporting PDF/VT files. Presumably you got the plug-in you're referring to from some third party company. You would need to contact them about metadata they might have added to the PDF file.

  • Lightroom removes the camera metadata on import.

Lightroom removes the camera metadata on import. It started I think when I turned on the option for finding locations through GPS data. I have since turned it off but it still wipes camera data on import. Please help.

So I don't know what happen but my photos were being put into an auto-upload folder when synced before I sorted them out. Occasionally I would start editing the photos here. At some point during that process Lightroom had asked me about auto looking up location data off the gps data. So now under metadata right where I found the camera, lens and all that information I was to find empty gps data listed. I tried removing and re adding that folder and resyncing the metadata but nothing worked. I turned off the gps setting which I thought was causing the problem but it didnt fix it. So I reloaded the photos onto my pc and put them in the proper folders and loaded them into lightroom that way. Bingo! Camera data! I dont know what really happened but I think when I changed that setting permanently caused a problem with my auto-upload folder. I will try again to load photos into Lightroom via the auto-upload folder and see if it is missing data. I will respond when I have tried that.  Thanks for all the responses.

  • Comp disappears in custom view cam

    hi all
    I'm having a weird problem viewing my 3D comp in the "custom view" camera;
everything is fine until, at a specific frame on the timeline, my 3D comp simply disappears in the custom view window (i.e. I toggle back and forth between these two frames, and before it's there, after it's not). It's still visible in the "active camera" and other views--and I can't find any keyframes at that point that might be shutting it off, or otherwise obscuring it.
Plus it's just happening in custom view....
    I'm using CS5.5 on Windows 7
    Any ideas?

  • Viewing Aperture metadata in Microsoft Windows XP

I shoot stills for the Royal Flying Doctor Service here in Australia. They use the photos in Windows XP. We cannot find a way for them to view the keyword metadata I've added in Aperture 2.1
Whilst details of the camera and exposure come up when viewing on XP's desktop windows (in "details" view), the caption or keyword fields are empty.
I know it's not something that Aperture's not doing; if we open the same JPEG file in PhotoShop on their computers, it can read the metadata just fine, including keywords and captions.
Also, doing a search (a la SpotLight on OSX 10.5) in Windows for particular metadata tags I've created turns up nothing.
I presume it may be a Microsoft issue, but if anyone has any suggestions about how to get my keywords across to XP so they're viewable via Details View of a desktop window, or XP's inbuilt photo viewer, I'd be most grateful!

We've only tried JPEGs William. Are TIFFs more compatible where metadata is concerned do you reckon?
