Viewing Canvas Video Feed on a Seperate Monitor through DVI or Component

Hey All,
This is something I have been researching with no simple, possibly cost efficent solution. Basically I would like to view the timeline canvas feed on a seperate monitor without the use of my hvx200. I will be editing in 720p60 and have an 17" hd tv with component and dvi inputs on the way.
I mainly will be using this monitor on productions as a field monitor but I would like to eventually use it as a second monitor on my mac pro to view only the video timeline feed of final cut pro on it, not mirror desktop and have a somewhat fuzzy (sd on a second monitor through mirroring always seems degraded).
I have looked at possible devices like the matrox and blackmagics pci cards to either sdi (which I dont have) hdmi and such but those start at $1000, a great deal of money I do not have at the time.
I would think that since the monitor has both a vga 15pin and digital dvi input there either has to be an option in fcp I have not seen or a device that I have not found.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks again for everything,
Tim

Look at the back of your mac and see if you have two monitor ports on your video card. Depending on the type of card you should be able to connect to your HD monitor as a second screen and then setup FCP to put external video on the digital cinema desktop.
I am using a siimilar setup, using a Dell Ultra-Sharp flatscreen as both my second computer monitor and my external video. The Dell's have DVI, VGA, component, S-video, and composite inputs, but right now I'm just using the DVI and FCP switches the video back and forth when I turn on external video.
Hope this helps -

  • After upgrading to mountain lion, my ip camera video feeds time out

I've been using my iMacs for a few years to monitor six ip Camera video feeds.  The cameras I use are both FOSCAM and AXIS brands.  I've used a few third party software solutions to do the monitoring, but I could also always use Safari to access a camera at a time by putting that camera's IP address in the address field and logging into the camera.
After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my video feeds started timing out when using DComplex's IP Camera Viewer, so I thought initially it was strictly an issue with that third party app.  However, I then logged into my cameras using Safari and they timed out as well.  Similarly, when using Axis Camera viewer, my video feeds would time out.  It seems as whatever the issue, it does not affect Firefox, because I can still login and monitor 1 feed at a time using that browser without any timeout issues, and for some odd reason, the FOSCAM only program uFoscam works, but the problem for me with that app is that it only works with Foscam, and not the Axis cameras (besides it's an inferior program to IP Camera Viewer in my opinion as well).
Has anyone encountered this problem and come up with a solution?  I'm thinking it's some sort of plugin or video codec problem, but it's well above my paygrade to figure it out.

I'm having the same problem with both my Vivotek wired network camera and Panasonic wireless network cameras. At first I thought this was an issue with the video framework in Mountain Lion, but if Firefox is working (I haven't tried it yet), it sounds like it may be an objective-c video library that has been changed. It's possible Firefox is using an objective-c interface that calls an objective-c function that isn't called by Safari or IP Camera Viewer, etc., (possibly a function that is on its way to be deprecated) or Firefox could use it's own library that directly calls the video framework.
Could be the Mountain Lion objective-c framework has a buffering issue.
Since this is occuring in both 3rd party software and Apple software, it sounds like it's an Apple issue. 3rd party applications typically utilize the Apple Developer objective-c frameworks to access video frameworks/libraries (for example, MJPEG). Thus, contacting 3rd party developers may not solve the situation (unless they can figure out a temporary bandaid--possibly figuring out the video framework call that Firefox uses and patching their software to do the same (not a simple task), but could still provide more feedback to Apple via their developer status.
Has anyone attempted to record from their cameras via iMovie or Final Cut Pro X HD? I will try mine later tonight to see if it records the hanging. If it does, then it's looking more and more like Apple's the culprit.
My suggestion is for everyone to file a bug report via http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

  • MSI GF4 Ti4200 Video-in/capture on secondary monitor.???

    Hi,
I have an MSI Ti4200-VTD8X (dual head, Video I/O).  I am running it in dual monitor setup.  When i try to view the video input on the secondary monitor i get the message:
"due to limitations of your computer's display device, this video can only play back on one of your monitors. please move the video window completely onto that monitor"
Does anyone know if this is a driver problem? or really it is a limitation with the card?. though i do not know why would the card be able to view the video capture window on one monitor but not the other?.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Yes, I am using NVidia's nView as well as their WDM drivers.  my dual monitor support seems to work fine.
Only if i want to see video input feed using something like win_DVR  or Win_VCR or even Win_Producer that i get this message if the software/input winodow was on the secondary monitor.

  • Video feeds on trunked port

    Here's my current setup:
Cisco 4948 switch connected to a Linksys SRW2008 switch to a AmiNET125 and laptops.
Basically, here's what I'm trying to accomplish... on my Cisco switch I have 3 VLANs:  10, 20, and 100.  10 is my Management/Data VLAN, 20 runs my video, and 100 is my external network.  Previously I did not have my port trunked from the Cisco to Linksys switches.  The ports on both the Cisco and Linksys were setup as as a VLAN access port to VLAN 10.  I was also able to view my video feeds that were running on VLAN 20 on my AmiNET125 with this configuration.  The multicast IP was 224.1.1.100 and I had no problems accessing it on the AmiNET or on the laptops connected to the Linksys.
Now we are trunking the port from the Cisco switch to the Linksys, and through software we are trunking the laptops.  My Cisco switch port is setup trunked and allowing all 3 VLANs.  I setup the Linksys (or hope I did correctly) to trunk and allow all 3 VLANs.  My workstations only access VLAN 10 and 100.  I can now no longer bring up the multicast IP 224.1.1.100 on the AmiNET or the laptops.  Like I stated before, the video feed is running on VLAN 20.  Is there some sort of additional configurations needed for my Linksys that I'm missing so that I can view the video on my AmiNET?  Do I need to create a multicast group in the Linksys in order to view it?
I'm not as worried about the laptops, but need the feeds on the AmiNET.
    Any help is extremely appreciated!

Right now, there is no way to inject a live wired video feed to the pad.  Maybe next year.
But if you are in a goofy 'try this' mode....
    1.  Face time.  If the bowling alley has a viable wifi network, do a face time connect, put an I phone on a stick and see the screen on your pad.
Or if there is no wifi,
2 an app called tango does video conference over 3G.  Not real good, and totally dependant on signal quality, and eats away at your data cap, but would work in a pinch.

  • Video feed through ASA

I have a setup using an ASA 5510 8.2(2). In the DMZ (192.168.12.x) there is a server, switch and multiple cameras for surveillance of the site. In the Inside (140.152.25.x) are the pcs that can run the client software to view the video feed, or it can pull from the server in the DMZ.
On the server in the DMZ, you can see the feed, along with any pc you connect to that network.
On any machine on the Inside, or through VPN, you cannot either with the client software or pulling from the surveillance server.
I am watching the connection through ASDM and don’t see any particular port being blocked, but I do see TCP connections being terminated by inspection. So far I’ve taken out inspections for http and rstp. I don’t really see anything else that would drop video. I've attached the error I keep seeing.

  • No video in Viewer/Canvas, only audio

I use Final Cut Pro X since Day One and I survived bugs and endless beachballs on my 2011 17' Macbook Pro.
A week ago FCPX stopped playing any video in viewer/canvas while scrubbing. Only audio is audible. Impossible previewing a single clip or playing the timeline. The beachball is immediate and the program hangs and need forced exit. This happens whatever the video source is: only audio plays. Same reinstalling from scratch 10.0.4. Trashing preferences and using quickfix from Digitalrebellion didin't help.
A momentary solution has been creating a new administrator user and working from there, with many limitation and commodities I have "on the other side".
I can't identify anything particular that might have caused this! Quicktime runs fine and so do Final Cut Pro 7, iMovie and all the video compartement.
I searchead the web but nobody seems to have follen in this situation.

Have the same problem. Did you ever find answer?

  • I have just upgraded. AND now I can't view video fullscreen on my secondary monitor?!! Why!

    I have a dual monitor set-up, with sharing. I am on a Mac OS X Version 10.7.5
I am viewing my Firefox window on my secondary monitor. (NOT Primary) When I click any video to full-screen it loads the full-screen on my primary monitor. When I click the window to full-screen (on my secondary monitor) it fills the primary monitor.
Before I upgraded, this morning, I could click the full-screen button and my video would appear on the secondary monitor. (The same monitor.) Before this morning, I could re-size the browser window to full-size and view it in my secondary monitor. (The same monitor!)
So, explain to me, why the change? Why is it when I click on a video to enter full-screen, or want to re-size a window to full-screen on my secondary monitor, it views on my primary monitor. Does this make any sense?
Why? Why would somebody want to browse on one monitor, want to watch something fullscreen, click a button and then watch it on another monitor? I just don't get it. Or why would someone be browsing in a window on one monitor, click full-screen, and want to browse in the same window on another monitor?
I am sitting here facing my secondary monitor (which I use as my art-board) and my primary monitor sits to my left. I mainly work from my secondary monitor, so when I am drawing, painting and designing my cursor doesn't 'run into' my dock features, calendar, ext. When browsing in Firefox my window is where it should be, in-front of me. So why would I want to watch a video or browse the web on my left? Why? Why would any developer or designer do this! Especially considering the second, non viewing screen is black! Which means my secondary monitor (in-front of me) is black.
When I click, view full-screen, whether video or resizing windows, whether it is my primary or secondary monitor, don't you think the screen should appear full-screen in the monitor I am using?! Right?! I mean somehow you calculated a way for Firefox to recognize which monitor to reopen in. So what's up? I didn't have this problem last week? So tell me . . . why can't I open a video in full-screen on my secondary monitor like I have been doing for years? Why am I even having to write a complaint about something I used to be able to do. AND NOW I CAN'T.
I just checked Safari. Wow. Look at that! When I want to view a video in full-screen in the appropriate monitor I can! Wow! I can actually click on my secondary monitor and it's recognizes I want to watch the video on the same monitor.
I used to be able to do this in Firefox. I guess it is time to give up on Firefox. And choose a company who understands user-perspective. Or at-least understands what an upgrade is.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Wanto output video from FCP to tv-monitor..

I've been searching for an answere in this forum aswell as PD150 forums..
Please help, I think of myself as a logical person but just can't figure this one out.
I try to output the video signal from FCP to a tv-monitor usin a Sony PD150 in the middle.
That is; Firewire from my G4 into my camera, s-video to scart into my monitor.
I've been fiddeling with the camera settigs but found nothing that indicates signal in/out or likewise.
I know that this isn't a PD150 forum but i thought I could find someone experienced here.
Thanks for answeres in advanced, Erik

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • HELP!! Can't view canvas on tv

    I am using FCP 7 on a  27" IMAC.
I connected my tv to the IMAC via the mini displayport and using the correct mini displayport to hdmi connection.
I want to view the canvas on the computer AND tv but I can't figure out how to do it???
The tv shows connection to the computer but not with FCP. I read alot of forums but i'm not getting anywhere. I can drag my canvas to the tv but I want to view them on both.
I'm obviously missing something. I restarted my computer and tv and even tried to refresh the a/v signal but no good.
My video playback is digital cinema desktop preview main. I don't see anything other than that list.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

I think I use the same setup as you want, with the only difference that I use MiniDisplayPort > DVI intead of MiniDisplayPort > HDMI. I don't know if that makes any difference in making it work.
So now how I did this:
In OS X SystemPreferences > Displays > Switch OFF Mirror Displays.  (The system Preferences do see 2 monitors, right? If not, please let us know.)
    In FCP:
Make sure you have a sequence open/active and park the playhead somewhere in the sequence.
menu: View > Video Playback > Digintal Cinema Desktop Preview
menu: View > External Video > All Frames  (Or press Command F12, or Fn-Command-F12 to toggle this setting ON or OFF).
Now, does that work for you?

  • Video feed freezes when using a merging datasource

I have an application that needs to take in data from either an audio source, a video source, or both. I'm able to view/hear the data just fine if it is just audio or just video but when I try to have a processor play both, the video feed will start running, but then stop. The audio will continue and the processor's controls continute to show the duration, so I know it's not the processor that's having the problem.
Two points of interest: Since my application needs to send this data as well as have it viewed locally, I am utilizing a MonitorStream in the same fashion as described in the "JMF Solutions" section. Also, since I'm using both types of data I'm creating a merged datasource via:
Manager.createMergingDataource( <audioDS>, <videoDS> )I wasn't able to locate anything related already posted here. Has anyone experienced this before, or know what is going on? Thanks.

    My 2 cents:
    1- Try this <video><audio> instead of <audio><video>
2- Forgot monitor stream if you want to monitor audio. I was unable to monitor video + audio with the jmf monitor solution.
3- Use a player, not a processor to play the data. I was unable to encode and play with the same processor.
    If you need, make clones!

    • Only if your video camera supports it.  Depending on how your camera works, you may need to add preview software to your Mac to use this feature.
    • Alternatively, your camera may also be able to record directly into your Mac while you are monitoring the Mac's display.
    • If you are using a consumer camcorder that supports HDMI monitoring, a small HDTV might be an simpler solution than your Mac.  For an example of how this is done, see http://youtu.be/GVpSkZD6qE4.
    • The retailer who sold you your video camera may have other suggestions.
    • If you need more professional results, an external preview monitor will offer more capability on compatible cameras.

  • Is there a way to use Illustrator to draw over a live video feed coming from my microscope?

Hi, we use illustrator to draw (trace) over static images of mite specimens taken under a microscope. Although this works, it would be much better to be able to draw directly from the live video feed coming from my microscope. The specimens are dead, so they are not moving around, however, we need to focus down through the specimen in order to see all details. We normally take montage images, but because the specimens are clear there are many artifacts present and we frequently have to consult the specimen under the microscope to double check things. My students and I have hundreds of drawings to complete and are looking for a way to streamline the process. If we could avoid making montage images and draw direct from the video feed, it would revolutionize the way we approach our research. Is there a way to display the video feed and then overlay Illustrator so that we can directly trace over the image (we use a Wacom tablet, but that shouldn't make a difference) so we can focus at different levels and draw the entire organism?
    Thanks for your help
    Ashley

Maybe it's possible to have live video in Illustrator, but you would most certainly need to write your own plugin.
So this community would be suitable:
