Viewing CFM files in Dreamweaver

Hi all....." have CF setup so I just run .. my CFM files from DW8 by hitting F12"
Saw that in another post and would really love to set my dreamweaver up so it can do this too. Can anyone advise?
Being new to the 'scene' I'm constantly learning. My software includes winxp, xampp (apache, php, mysql), coldfusion). I am at the stage now of
going through online tutorials to learn how to best use it all. After designing my four common pages with DW and PS the next task is to work out how to have the 1100 or so pages of products and content inserted as needed. I looked at DW templates at first but that got messy so I am hoping that CF will meet the challenge. I am a total novice. But I have installed everything I need and now I'm trying to get it all working smoothly together.
Someone kindly directed me to PHP as a solution, and I will learn PHP, but I think I need to get an understanding of CF first (seeing as I have gone to the trouble of setting it up on my machine.
So I figure one of my initial steps is to set up my environment to properly review my work as I progress.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou

Also, I went into manage sites, coldfusion8 tutorial (the name of the site)
And in the site definitions box I have:
Local Root Folder: C:\xampp\htdocs\Coldfusion8
tutorial\cf8gettingstarted\tutorial\
Default image Folder: C:\xampp\htdocs\Coldfusion8
tutorial\cf8gettingstarted\tutorial\images\
HTTP address:
http://localhost/coldfusion8%20tutorial/cf8gettingstarted/tutorial/
OMG how stupid am I? (don’t answer that)...
I copied files to that directory and I can view them now by pressing f12 in
DW.
But can you explain why you think the browser jumps to index_content when I
call for index.cfm
Thanks for all of your help everyone. Sorry If I wasted anybody's time. I
thought I had tried that but, in the confusion, it looks like I didn’t, or
something.
Thanks again
Now I can start learning how CF handles databases.
If you know of any good tutorials for a total novice, if you could let me
know, that would be great!
Many Thanks!

  • Opening cfm file in dreamweaver displays unicode

hi. i'm brand new to coldfusion, and when i open a .cfm file
in dreamweaver 8, most of it is showing up in unicode. how do i
    make it legible?
    thanks!

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for explaining Coldfusion
Administrator to me. My problem is that I've been giving an
application built by a 3rd party vendor, and my boss would like to
know how much we will be able to edit the application in-house.
They have given us all of the .cfm files and we host the server
running the app, so I have access to the dbs as well. But whenever
I try to open these .cfm files I see the encrypted characters. Is
there any way for me to edit these pages?

  • How can I open a cfm file in Dreamweaver CC using a Mac? Added to the Extensions.txt. Getting error adding to preferences-- file types.

I am trying to open Cold Fusion files using Dreamweaver CC. We've never had a problem with the versions before the Cloud. My co-worker can open using a PC, but I'm using a Mac. I can connect to the server and see the files, but when I open, it opens the file in text editor. I have tried adding the extensions to the Extensions.txt file (they weren't there previously), editing the MMDocumentTypes.xml file (the file type WAS in that file), adding to the Preferences-->File Types/Editors (I can add the extension, but when I try to choose Dreamweaver CC as the editor, I get an error "You cannot use Adobe Dreamweaver CC as an external editor. Please choose a different application."). When I right-click the file, I do not see an "Open With" option, only "Open".  Does anyone know of another trick that could make Dreamweaver CC more than an HTML editor for Mac?  I cannot us CF Builder - no approval for loading the extra files server-side to use that IDE.

    Have you tried these suggestions...

  • Can't view .swf files in Dreamweaver

I'm using CS3 versions of both Dreamweaver and Flash and when
I import a .swf file into dreamweaver it works perfect locally but
doesn't show at all when I've uploaded the file into my webspace.
What am I doing wrong? I never had this problem when I used the CS2
versions of both software and it's driving me absolutely nuts!!!
Any advice would be most gratefully received.

On the other hand, if it's not working in CS3, then there is
    an error
somewhere, since I know that CS3 does it properly....

  • URL for viewing local files

I'd been using Browserlab successfully today, viewing local files from Dreamweaver CS5. I logged out and then returned later in the day and am now having problems as the Browserlab window is failing to  automatically load the local file's URL in the box at the top of Browserlab screen (the URL box just stays blank. Can I manually input the local address and if so can someone advise the general format. I assume something like http://localhost/.... Obviously I will need to input my own file names, but just need the root URL/general format for viewing local files.
    Thanks

    Hi flowersplash,
Thank you for your interest in BrowserLab.  Please check to see if you have the BrowserLab web site open in another browser or browser tab.  You should only have one instance of BrowserLab open at a time.  You might also try restarting your browser (all instances) and Dreamweaver and if that doesn't work, the OS.
BrowserLab currently only allows you to specify local or firewalled URLs from Dreamweaver.  Directly inputting a URL into the BrowserLab testing interface will test the page from the perspective of a person elsewhere on the Internet.  Open the site you want to test in Dreamweaver LiveView, select "Local" in the BrowserLab Panel in Dreamweaver and click the Preview button.
    Cheers,
    Josh

  • Win7 x64 + IIS + CF9 - run a .cfm file from browser

Is it possible to have everything setup so, as the computer user can dbl-click on a .cfm file from windows eg. index.cfm and have it display correctly in the browser ?
At present, clicking on a .cfm file causes Dreamweaver to load and display it.
Dreamweaver can then go on to display the file in the configured browser.

the software I'm using is a plugin for Photoshop called SiteGrinder by medialab
It's a really clever piece of software which converts a .psd into a website. Saves me a ton of time.
Anyway, it uses Photoshop's FILE > AUTOMATE facility, and transfer's control to it's own app. The app then converts my .psd and open's it's own content manager in my browser at the location localhost:3000/etc....
It's fine when I used html, but obviously when I tell it to process a cfm file, things don't work. All it's trying to do is open the same file, at the same URL, but with a .cfm suffix. So I thought there must be a way for Coldfusion Server to adapt to that ?
This is the exact URL the app is trying to open in my browser (and fails)

Can't see .cfm files in Design view in Dreamweaver CC.

    Hi pkregel,
Do these files open as intended in Dreamweaver CS6? I am not a CF expert but I am guessing that if you are able to open the files, then you should be able to see them in both the views. Can you post a screenshot as well?

  • Dreamweaver CS5 slow to open CFM files

    Carey, All,
Our whole team has problems when opening our (.cfm) files. Like the original poster (peterallcdn) we think it's because of related files...? In our case, we think it's our includes (fyi - we're using ColdFusion). When we remove all the includes the page opens quickly but with the includes the page takes over 30 seconds. We're working with only local files over a network as compared to peterallcdn who was using remote files.
Our includes have various elements in them including sql queries, javascript, other includes etc.
We've tried the Preferences tweaks and the registry edits listed in th is thread but our problem persists.
Again these same files, when opened up in Notepad, open instantly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jake

Hello, Jake. Welcome to the Adobe user-to-user forums!
30 seconds is definitely too long for opening files. Since the files are local, it is not likely the same issue discussed in the original thread, so I have split off your message into a new thread.
We are investigating internally to see if we can determine a cause.
To help get this sorted, would you be willing to share one or more of your files, and perhaps some Dreamweaver/server configuration details?

  • New to Dreamweaver. Can I open/ view .php files with this application?

Recently downloaded a file that had the extension; .php. Tried opening it on my desktop and couldn't. Was told the Dreamweaver software/ application from adobe could help. Please, educate me on what to do in order to view these files.

PHP files are all code.  You need a local testing server to view PHP files locally in your browser.   Dreamweaver can help you view the code, but you still need a local testing server to preview it.
Get one of these testing servers for you OS and install it.

  • Saving a file with Dreamweaver it doesn't show up finder view of folder

Since I updated Mac Leopard it seems that when saving a file with Dreamweaver 8 it shows up in the files list but it doesn't show up in the finder when I look at the same folder.
But if I save to the desktop the file is visible and if I save to another folder it's visible. Any ideas why?

It was my understanding that anything prior to DW CS3, which is version 9, is not compatible with Leopard.

  • Dreamweaver CC not prompting to put dependent files when uploading ColdFusion .cfm files?

I just 'upgraded' (if you consider DW CC an upgrade) from CS6 to CC, and am having problems with .cfm files.
I have followed all the instructions to get DW CC to open and edit .cfm files..... and it does this just fine. I have also installed the server behaviours and databases panel extension.
However heres the BIG problem: when I want to upload a .cfm file to a server, I am no longer getting a prompt to upload dependent files! It prompts me fine if I upload a .html file, but not .cfm.
I mostly work with .cfm files and make changes to CSS files regularly. Whenever I upload a .cfm it is essential that DW also uploads the dependent files associated with it.
Please how can I fix this issues? I have gone into preferences and all the boxes are checked correctly to prompt for dependent files when putting/getting. I'm so stuck I'm thinking about cancelling my CC products and going back to CS6.

I have now discovered that DW CC does not prompt to upload dependent files if the file extension is .CFM or .ASPX.
This is seriously frustrating Adobe..... !!!

  • Ability to view multiple files in ONE window

I can see here that this is not a new topic really but the thing with Acrobat 9 is so frustrating that it is just unbelievable.
    This is another pearl:
Acrobat 9 "lost" its predecessors ability to view multiple files in ONE window. After opening four only documents I cannot see anything on the screen because the toolbars on each individual window cover all necessary view and nothing is left for the actual document. And sometimes I need to open 20 documents!
    This is ABSOLUTE DISASTER!!!
I found some explanations from Adobe on the Web that are more than a year old.
I was sure that by now this unfortunate mishandling of that feature (apparently it was dropped out from A9 deliberately - WHO'S IDEA WAS THAT?) would be somehow restorable.
Would anyone happen to know if this feature can get restored to how it was working in A7 or 8 (without the need to uninstall A9 and install A8)?

No, it can't be restored, unless Adobe decides to change the way Acrobat works (which is possible, but not likely).
By the way, it was Microsoft's idea... Adobe were just following their example on this.
You can make a feature request here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

  • Working with .phtml files in dreamweaver... a how to

hope this helps those diving into magento, zend, and other goodies, but want the comfort of dreamweaver.  would be nice if it came this way, but it's an easy add for dreamweaver.
By default, Dreamweaver cannot read PHTML files. You can add the file type to the “Open in Code View” section of the preferences if you wish to have fast access, however you cannot view the file in design view if you do that. So if you use Dreamweaver (versions 4, MX, MX2004, 8, or 9, aka CS3,CS4) to design your sites, and you wish to open Magento’s Template files (they have .phtml extensions) in Dreamweaver, you can follow these steps to add support for .phtml and make Dreamweaver render PHP code (with coloring, hinting, et al) as well as allow you to see the design in code view if desired. Below are three steps to follow.*
IMPORTANT NOTES: This guide is for Dreamweaver on Windows (XP or Vista) or Mac OS X. Note: I have excluded version numbers from the file locations shown, and if you are using a version older than Dreamweaver 9 (CS3) replace “Adobe” with “Macromedia” in the file locations shown. Some spaces have also been removed to keep the references on one line.
    * Dreamweaver 4 users: if you are using the archaic Dreamweaver 4, you only need to follow step one. However, it’s highly recommended that you just upgrade to version 8, CS3 or newer for superb CSS and Web Standards support.
    * Vista may need to edit files by running notepad as Administrator, however this requirement is not common and if encountered, may be avoidable by following these steps after a fresh restart. However, if unavoidable, simply go to Start > All Programs > Accessories, and then right click on Notepad and select “Run as Administrator”. Once notepad is open, use File > Open to browse to the applicable file before making the necessary changes.
Open the following extension configuration file in a notepad and change the lines as specified below:
XP: Documents and Settings > [user] > Application Data > Adobe Dreamweaver > Configuration > extensions.txt
NOTE: If you cannot see the Application Data Folder, go to Tools → Folder Options → View and make sure that Show Hidden Files and Folders is checked.
    Vista: Users > [user] > AppData > Roaming > Adobe > Dreamweaver 9 > Configuration > Extensions.txt
Mac OS X: Users > [Home Folder] >Library > Application Support > Adobe > Dreamweaver [Your Version] > [en_US or other locale (only for version CS4)] > Configuration > Extensions.txt
    HTM,HTML,SHTM,SHTML, ... ,TXT,PHP,PHP3,PHP4,PHP5,PHTML,JSP,WML,TPL, ... ,MASTER:All Documents
    PHP,PHP3,PHP4,PHP5,TPL,PHTML:PHP Files
This file is pretty much exactly like the extensions.txt file located in Dreamweaver’s Application Data folder, except it is in Dreamweaver’s Program Files folder, inside a configuration folder. Just as in Step One, find the file and change the lines as specified below.
XP, Vista: Program Files > Adobe > Dreamweaver [Your Version] > configuration > Extensions.txt
Mac OS X: Applications > Adobe Dreamweaver [Your Version] > configuration > Extensions.txt
    HTM,HTML,SHTM,SHTML, ... ,TXT,PHP,PHP3,PHP4,PHP5,PHTML,JSP,WML,TPL, ... ,MASTER:All Documents
    PHP,PHP3,PHP4,PHP5,TPL,PHTML:PHP Files
This will apply your php code coloring settings to your phtml files This file is an XML file which should be located in:
XP, Vista: Program Files > Adobe > Dreamweaver [Your Version] > configuration > DocumentTypes > MMDocumentTypes.xml
Mac OS X: Applications > Adobe Dreamweaver [Your Version] > configuration > DocumentTypes > MMDocumentTypes.XML
Note: Dreamweaver 8 users on Windows may also need to apply these changes to: C:Program Files > Macromedia > Dreamweaver 8 > Configuration > Document Types > MMDocumentTypes.xml
Note: In Windows 7/Vista you may need to update the file permissions under Properties>Security tab in order to save your changes to the file.
    <documenttype id="PHP_MySQL" servermodel="PHP MySQL"
    internaltype="Dynamic" winfileextension="php,php3,php4,php5,phtml"
    macfileextension="php,php3,php4,php5,phtml" file="Default.php"
    writebyteordermark="false">;
    </documenttype>
Restart or Open Dreamweaver and you shouldn’t have any problems with PHTML files any longer.

I have seen a good solution at http://webdesignsolutions.co.in/add-phtml-extension-in-dreamweaver , this is very simple.
