Viewing clips

Firstly when I open up Adobe Premiere I get a window that says, "We have detected an incompatible display driver. To get a better and faster playback performance, please update your display driver. Display driver details :Intel- Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family 2.1.0 - Build 8.15.10.1808." I tried downloading that driver and it will not run for me. Not quite sure if that is the problem.
Secondly, When I double click on a video to play it, the screen in which it would play comes up. The thing is that the screen stays grey but the audio will still play. The video runs through but only the audio works. Any suggestions?

This is aimed at Premiere Pro, but may help

  • Cant view clips simultaneously in Multiclip when using Intermediate Codec!

    Hi
I am trying to make a movieclip with some clips that are Apple Intermediate Codec. My problem is that I cant view clips simultaneously in the Viewer. I have tried with a couple of other projects that are regular DV and with them it works fine to view several clips simultaneously in the Viewer. Does anyone know something about that you cant view several clips in a Multiclip simultaneously when using Apple Intermediate Codec?
    Thanks
    PowerMac G5 Dual 1,8ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

What was your original format? HDV I bet... A good
workflow for HDV is to convert it to DVCPRO HD codec.
High quality, not so high bandwidth.
The original format is AIC because I got it from a competition on one of Apple's pages. http://edcommunity.apple.com/epic/contest.php
Here are the specs for the video.
    AIC, 640x360, fps:59,94, bitrate: 20mbit/s
Should I use HD-DVCPRO or something else then?
Right now im trying to convert to H.264 which have no quality loss and the file size is half the original, there shouldnt be a problem editing in H.264, right?

  • View clips at full size?

Is there a way to view clips at full size?
I know I can view at 100% in the Viewer but, without resizing the Viewer, I only see a cropped view.
I know I can view full screen, but then I'm seeing something larger than my 1920x1080 soure file, (with interpolated pixels?)
I just want to see the clips at 100%, from edge to edge, when evaluating them during editing.
Am I missing something obvious (not the first time!) or is this not (easily) possible with a single monitor?
    --Darin

    Hey Russ H,
I see the full screen button and the percentage drop down--but as you can see from the little box on the right side of your screen grab you are only seeing a cropped version of the full image. Clicking the full screen button on the bottom (your lower arrow) enlarges to full screen, which is larger than actual pixels on my iMac.
What I'm trying to see is a 1920x1080 pixel image from my 1920x1080 clip.
The cropped image (simply zooming) makes it hard for me to evaluate the overall image in terms of sharpness, for example. The full screen image is adding pixels and is giving a softer look than what is actually in the file.
Not the end of the world. I can choose "100%" and drag the little red box around to get an impressionistic sense of the clip. I can also export the clip and play it in Quicktime to see it in actual pixels. I just figured there must be a way to do it within Final Cut X--but maybe the idea is that I should buy a second monitor.

  • Video and audio sync when viewing clips online

When viewing clips, like on youtube, the graphics start playing, however there is no sound, only after a few seconds the graphics freeze and the sound that was missing starts playing and the graphics resume when they're in sync again.
Also when I pause a video and click play the clip will not resume and I have to click the "time bar" and then it will play.
My 13 MB Pro starts furiously blowing the cooling fan and consuming battery life when viewing clips on most video sites.
How can I fix these things?
This already happened before upgrading to Lion, btw.

Are you capturing this thru the LS? and what is the format you are digitizing? DV? or uncompressed? Would be best I'd think if you don't capture audio and video as separate files too. That leads to problems especially with DV captures.
How are you monitoring the audio and video? all from computer or? You could be in sync and not know it if you are using computer speakers for monitoring audio when watching video externally for example.
If you monitor both from the computer and it is in sync, but not when you record to video, I'd suggest that you export a self contained movie of this material and import that for the print to the beta... I'll wager that will keep your sync. If this doesn't help, might want to post this in the AJA KONA forum at http://www.creativecow.net Might be something to do with your LS, not sure but do have the latest drivers installed on it...

  • View Clips on an External Monitor

I am having trouble viewing playback on an external monitor.
I just upgrade from FCP 4 to FCP 5. When I was using FCP 4 I had it set up that all I need was to click on the clip and it would be displayed on the external montior.
In FCP 5 the only setting I can find for external monitor all through firewire.
On my powerbook G4, I want to use the svideo out to an external monitor.
I have gone through at there setting with no luck. Is there any setting that I am missing to get a signal to my external monitor?
What do I need to do to get this fixed?
    JEFF

plug in your external monitor via the s-video and confirm its been recognised (turn it on ... you should see a second OS X desktop dislayed on it). go to your apple menu > system preferences and choose the displays pane. make sure you choose a display size that best represents your external moniters dimensions, and a refresh rate that your monitor supports.
now, with all that done, launch FCP ... it should recognise your 2nd display, which should appear in the list at View > Video Playback
do you see a list of playback devices there? if not, tell us what you do see in that list. try choosing View > Refresh A/V Devices, and then check the list again

  • Trying to view clip, but quicktime isn't working

From the support.apple.com website, I keep trying to view a clip about importing CDs using ITunes, but when I click on the link, I get a screen that says I should download Quicktime to view it. However, I have already downloaded and installed the latest version of Quicktime, so I'm not sure what's going on. I tried this on a few other video clips and the same thing happened.
For information: I'm trying to open the clip in Firefox, on a PC, running Windows XP. I notice that Quicktime is not listed as a plug-in in Firefox, though I'm not sure what that means.
    Thanks, David.

You have to be a little more forceful than you think need to so keep trying. If you're not sure how maybe this will help?

It's for an iPhone 4 but it will be the same for your model.

P.S I have chosen the filter: ALL

    A million thanks in advance

    Hi F. Carl
The clip is intact and it has video and audio.
I have worked on it before and all was fine until I lost the work when it got frozen!
    The issue is:
I have a (MOV.) ready clip that I wanted to edit a bit, hence I have imported the clip (import media) and whenever I try to work on it, the black screen prohibits me from doing anything.
Any ideas please ... It's really strange !

  • Cannot view clips from apple homepage ?

    Hi there,
have been trying to view the new i phone and top tips video clips from the apple homepage but i can only hear sound no video will play, what am I doing wrong ??? If you can help me please explain in baby language as am very backwards in the computer world !!
    Cheers

Go to system preferences-quicktime and under the browser tab make sure 'play movies automatically' and 'save movies in disk cache' are selected. Also under the streaming tab select '1.5 Mbps T1/Internet/LAN' is selected for speed, and enable instant on with a short delay.

  • Fastest way to view clips

I have a hard drive camera and it creates hundreds of clips. I want to look at each clip and then create subclips. Is there a way to speed up the process of opening up each clip individually and then setting my in and out points? Can I put them all in viewer stacked up and then just exit the one I'm done with and go to the next? Any keyboard shortcuts anyone can recommend? I would rather not throw them all into the timeline, wait to export all the clips into one .mov file and then edit them that way, but I know that is an option. Any advice would help.

use the keyboard. It's the fastest way. cmd-4 takes you to the browser, use the arrow keys to select the clip you want to view. Up and down arrows bring you from bin to bin, when a bin is selected. To open and enter a bin, use the left and right arrow. Once in the bin use the up and down arrows again to go up and down within the bin. Press the return key to load the clip in the viewer and the spacebar or "L" key to play. cmd-4 to go back to the browser and select another clip. If you want to rename a clip after you have watched it, press the Enter key (not the return key) and you will open the dialog box for the name. You can rip through the browser items without ever going to the mouse, which is what really slows you down.
In addition, if you have Leopard you can use the Quicklook feature in the Finder window and just use the up and down arrows to cycle through the clips. You don't even need to press the spacebar because every time you arrow to a new clip it automatically plays. You don't even need to launch an application to view them.
Just a couple of time saving features. If you have Adobe, you can use Bridge in the same way, but it's easier to name and add metadata to the clips before you import them into FCP.

  • 2 basic questions/ viewing clips and exporting to quicktime

I have to problems thus far. 1stly, I'd like to figure if I can utilize the playback feature for more than one clip at a time. Whenever I try to use it, it only plays one clip then stops at the end, though i'd prefer it continue on through the transition into the next clip.
2ndly, I've exported the clip into a quicktime file and uploaded it to my .mac account. People using apples can view it, but window's users cannot. NOr can they view it when I export it to a full size .mov and just email it to them. It tells them they're missing some compressor. Downloading the newest version of QT does not help either.
Any help in either or both of these matters is greatly appreciated.

    Hi John,
the uploading to .mac usually uses a sorenson codec in a .mov container.
That can be watched on PC just when the free Quicktime Player for Windows is installed. does your friends have done that...?
… It tells them they're missing some compressor. Downloading the newest version of QT does not help either. …newest version for PC or on your Mac's side?
QT7 offers now the brandnew h.264 compression codec... this isn't supported on the Windows side yet (just experimental/beta)... so using the "latest" is maybe the wrong way...
in the iM export dialog you'll find the option ".avi" (PC container + sorenson codec)… try that for a mail (big files!) and your friends should see your movie...
and tell them, they shall buy a Mac, hey, c'mon!
you can offer downloads of your project on .mac, but not as convenient as the "upload to" function. ... but that is another cup of tea......

  • View clip runtime as opposed to timecode?

I'm sorry to ask this, as I'm sure the answer is simple, but I can't for the life of me find an easy solution. In short, I have a client who has been using the quicktime files from a shoot to make edit notes. He doesn't have any sort of NLE so has been simply viewing the clips in Quicktime Player and making edit notes based on the runtime as he sees it in Quicktime Player (these clips are all fairly long; 10-15 minute interviews and he is isolating small soundbites).
The problem is, these quicktime clips, in premiere, have embedded timecode which doesn't, obviously, correspond to the quicktime runtimes. Is there any way in premiere to view the individual runtime of a clip so I don't have to switch back to Quicktime player to view the clients notes and then hunt for the right timecode? Thanks for any help.

might be important to add: you need to type +50000 (or any other timecode) with the numpad, it wont work with the numbers above the normal keys. Since the number you type in with this method, is the number of frames you jump forward, you should first be sure to set the playhead in the source monitor at the begining. +50000 would jump to timecode 27:46:20 (mm:ss:ff) on a clip with 30 fps and to 33:20:00 on a clip with 25.
For your task it might be easyer to click timecode on the left with the mouse and type the timecode (now you can use any number keys) like 5:00:00 (you can leave the hours blank, but 5:00 will jumb to second 5).
    hope that helps

  • General Error - Out of memory when viewing clips

Hi All. I have a problem.
Right, I have 720p clips, about 5-10 minutes long each, 100-150mb in size. I roughly have about 180 of these clips. Now some of the clips can be viewed, others (most) cannot. Everytime I click to view them, it brings up the error out of memory message. All clips and the project are being done on an external HD (1TB)
I've attempted to start a new project on the Mac HD, same issue (with the clips still on the external HD) and I've also tried only putting one clip in with the same error message.
How can I resolve this issue?
    Cheers
    Tony

Don't convert to DivX, that's not an editing codec either.

  • HI - new mac user.  When trying to view clips on certain sites i receive the following text: "missing plug in" can anyone assist?

HI - new mac user here
When trying to view certain sites i receive the following text: "missing plug in" can anyone assist?
I think it is related to viewing video or clips.....

Well, if you're using Chrome, or Firefox go here this should also work with Safari. It will let you know if Flash is already installed in your browser. If your using Chrome it should have been intergrated. Were you able to get Flash installed so you can view video clips? Post back to let us know. Hope this helps. Also install Perian. See if that helps as well.

  • How to make a single multi-view clip from different cameras?

    Hi,
I recorded one conversation between two people with two different cameras (i.e., a camera per person) and I'd like to create a single video clip where the two clips from the two cameras are positioned side by side, i.e., one clip of the two people talking. I tried creating a Multicam clip but I didn't see an option to export the sequence as a single clip (also there was no option of how to place the clips which suggested that Multicam clip may not be the solution for this).
Is there a way to do that in Final Cut Pro X?
Of course, this would also involve synchronising the two clips based on the audio waveform and then detaching the audio from the non-master clip.
Any advice and recommendations will be highly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Katya

  • Help - can't view clips in monitor

I'm running iMovie4 and suddenly can't see any of my clips in the monitor. Just get a black screen. consequently can't edit or play them at all. What's happened?

    Hi l
Most common origin to this is:
    • Running low on free space on the Start-up hard disk
less 5Gb - nothing should work OK
5 - 10Gb might work slow and instable
25Gb free space - my goal after importing material to my movie
    else
There are several different origins to this. I would.
    • delete the iMovie pref file
    • run: Repair permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
    • start from another hard disk or CD/DVD then
run: Repair hard disk (Apple Disk Util tool)
    • start a new account and log into this and re-try
    • remove third party plug-ins if any new is added
    • remove resently added new fonts.
Try one at a time and see if it works.
    Q:
    • How much free space is there on Your int hard disk
    • Is there any ext devices connected
    • Mac OS X.4.?, iMovie v. 6.0.3 ? and QuickTime version ?
    • Did You put in any third party plug-ins to iMovie or into QT ?
    • is you Mac as "factory delivered"?
    • or did you install a new iLife version?
    • or did you de-install any files/apps, e.g. using "Multilingual" etc. pp
                (from Karsten)
    • other programs that interferes like < Unsanity APE >
    < FileVault > etc.
    • I finally copied the iMovie folder in the other user's library to my library
and I dont know why, but it fixed it! (skcomp123)
    1. Sequre that there are at least 20Gb free space on the internal hard disk.
    2. Try not using any external hard disk
    3. Versions I would use: Mac OS X.4.? + iMovie 5.0.2 + QT 7.0.4 (I think)
QT v 7.1.6 I guess can give problems - MY personal opinion
    4. Delete iMovie pref file
    iMovie
    -->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie.plist
    and
    -->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    5. Run: Repair permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
    6. Start from another hard disk or CD/DVD then run: Repair hard disk (Apple Disk Util tool)
    7. Start a new account and log into this and re-try.
