Viewing contacts through iTunes?

Hello oh-so-knowledgable ones!
Hope you are all enjoying the Olympics!
I've got a doosie....
Long story short. Due to an accident, which caused a crack in the screen, the lower third of my original iPhone screen no longer responds to touch (making the "slide to unlock" impossible). "No problem," I thought, "I'll just make sure everything is synced up, buy a new iPhone 3G and all the contacts will transfer." (I'm sooo **** clever) So I tried that, and it seems that the syncing must have somehow been affected on the iPhone side since some contacts I know I had on my iPhone did not show up in my address book on the iMac. I believe I've tried all of the obvious things; rebooting the computer, rebooting the iPhone, re-re-re-syncing, & changing where "new contacts" are placed in the iMac address list.
Soooo...
Is there anyway to view my contacts on my iPhone through my computer? Is there a program that I just haven't found through Web searching? Will I have to open the oh-god-don't-mess-this-up terminal? Am I just f#$%ed?
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks ahead of time!
Max

Contacts are not backed up with iPhone backups. They care synced from your address book program. If you entered all your contacts onto iPhone but did not sync them to Address Book (or Outlook)then you will not be able to retrieve them.
Contacts cannot be read in iTunes.

  • IPhone 3Gs won't sync contacts through iTunes after 4.0.2 upgrade

I updated to OS 4.0.2 today, and since then my iPhone 3Gs will not sync contacts. All contacts have now disappeared from my phone. The group headings still show, but Contacts is empty. I performed a factory reset and restored my phone, but still no contacts. Even after repeated syncs.
I am syncing with Address Book through iTunes. I performed a one way sync each time from laptop to phone to avoid the phone overwriting my address book with zero data. I also backed up my contacts before attempting the sync, so the data still exists in Address Book, it simply won't appear in the phone.
I also tried to reset sync history - first by using iSync 'reset sync history' button, but that does not work these days as iSync does not see my iPhone. Then I tried looking for the reset sync history' button that Apple Support says can be found as follows:
"Open iTunes. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab. Click the Reset Sync History button."
But - that button is not there!
    Any ideas anyone?

Did you try to set up your phone without using the latest backup? If you can, your other backup might be damaged and not usable anymore.

  • Synching iPhone Contacts through ITunes with Google Contacts.. DUPLICATES

I have an iPhone 3GS and a Windows 7 Computer. I can NOT figure out how to stop the duplication (or triplication +)of contacts from happening every single time i sync my phone to my google contacts.
I don't have outlook - so a few months ago when I got a new computer I set it up so my iTunes syncs my contacts with "Google Contacts". Not all my contacts, but some of them (no rhyme or reason that i can tell) duplicate everytime I sync. I've deleted directly from Google Contacts and also directly from IPhone - neither works. Any suggestions? My contacts lists on both ends are a mess.
Oh - one other thing - I went into iTunes and pressed "configure" in the sync contacts section -- and it does nothing. I get no box that has settings. Is this a bug?

Then you do not want to sync contacts directly with a supported application through iTunes on your computer. You should set up your syncing with google as outlined here:
    http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138740
To get rid of your duplicates, follow the directions here:
Deselect Sync Contacts under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by selecting Apply, and leave this deselected from here on out or the contacts on your iPhone will be duplicated again.
On your iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Select your Google account.
Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. A warning message should be provided indicating this will erase all contacts downloaded from and being kept synchronized with your Google online address book along with an option to save these contacts locally on your iPhone. Decline this prompt.
This will not erase the contacts synced directly with your computer via the iTunes sync process.
Follow this by turning Contacts back on for over the air syncing.
You will be provided a merge prompt, which you want to select.
This will get rid of the duplicates as long as you leave Sync Contacts deselected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. Doing both is not required and does nothing but duplicate the contacts on your iPhone.

i jsut have a gmail account. does it ieed a google plus account or something? why isn't it appearing in the itunes menu?
i have iphone 4 running ios 6.1.3 and the latest version of itunes.

    hi ArtisticGeek
i am more concerned with syncing contacts and calendar (just the same way i sync them now with outlook)
i am refering to the attached picture and the dtop menu in it and wondering why i don't have the same.
reason being that i have a samsung tablet and an iphone and i just want to be able to have the same contact list and calendar notes on both and the only common platform to do that is Google contacts.

  • How can I still sync my 3G Calendar & Contacts through iTunes?

Made the switch to iCloud from Mobile Me for my Mac and iPad. My iPhone 3G didn't make the cut, but I still want to sync it with iCal and Address Book through iTunes. In my last two backup sessions, I have checked Sync Contacts and Sync Calendars, then checked the boxes under Advanced to overwrite Calendars and Contacts with records from my Mac's iCal and Address Book. Nothing happened.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this capability also disabled for the iPhone 3G?

  • Synch contacts through iTunes to iphone

    Hi everyone
I am not sure whether anyone has met with my problem or not. Since recently, I am unable to update my contacts through my Mac to my iPhone. Most of the contacts are added but when adding new information at my contacts on Mac, when trying to synchronize through iTunes, none is reflecting.
I have tried to solve the issue.I thought it has to do with settings in iTunes, but none seems to work. Simply no updates info on my Mac contacts, is relfecting to my iPhone, therefore, I have to add the info manually in my iPhone.
It is really frustrating. Can anyone advise?
    Thanks

I have not activated iCloud on my Mac or iPhone 4s but it is activated on my iPad.
Yes, I need to have the full contents of my Mac address book to reflect on my iPad and iPhone.
I guess iCloud must have something to do with this issue. Same problem happening whenever I wish to update my contact to my blackberry, it won't update at all, and it used to before.
Pls advise what to do, as address book of my Mac is my key address book.
    Thanks

DVDs are encrypted to stop you from doing this.  It is illegal to break this encryption.
"Shouldn't I be able to store DVDs I own in the video library so I can sync the movie to my iPhone?"
No. DVDs are encrypted to stop you from doing this.  It is illegal to break this encryption.
CDs are not encrypted, as the music industry allows copying music for your own use.  The movie/tv industry does not allow this, so they encrypt their products.

  • How can i  manage my contacts in my iPhone through iTunes?

I got alot of contacts but i need to delet some of them, and it just to much work to go on by one doing it manually. please help me

You don't actually manage them through iTunes, you sync them to the computer and manage them in a supported application. Depending on what computer operating system you use, it is either Address Book on the Mac, Windows Contacts or Outlook in Windows. Once you have synced the contacts to one of those supported apps, you can make changes. If you have not synced the contacts before, you need to make sure that you have at least one unique contact on the computer to ensure it triggers the merge prompt. When you see that, you want to merge the contacts on the iPhone and the computer. That will let you manage the contacts on the computer and then another sync will make the changes present on the iPhone.

I have a different contacts on my phone than I do on my computer.  I would like to combine them. If I sync through itunes will it erase my contacts on my phone?

If the supported address book app on your computer includes contacts as well as your iPhone, you will be provided a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.

I am a long time iTunes user but a new MacBook owner! I keep the majority of my music files on an external hard drive.   I'm trying to view all those files on my MacBook through iTunes.   With windows you would go to : File/Add To Library, and iTunes would add all your selected files to your music library BUT WOULD NOT COPY THEM TO YOUR HARD DRIVE.  In other words, if the external hard drive was connected, you could listen, drag/drop, and edit the files.   When I tried the same thing with my new MacBook... it actually started coping the files to my MacBook harddrive.  I don't want that, it's millions and millions of mp3's that I don't want to keep on my computer, only my external hard drive.   Can anyone help?    I'm sure it's something easy, I'm just so new to the Mac world.   Being an iPhone owner for many many years I'm picking up things fast, but this is getting the best of me!  Help !

In iTunes 11 uncheck the preferences setting in in the iTunes Preferences panel "Advanced > Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to Library"

  • Unable to sync contacts & appointments through iTunes from Outlook 2011 since IOS 7

Since updating my iPhone and iPad to IOS 7, I have lost all my contacts, appointments and messages from both devices. Prior to IOS 7 I was able to sync my contacts and appointments from Outlook 2011 to my devices through Itunes. How do I restore this functionality? I've tried restoring a previous back-up but that did not work.

I had the same problem with my Nano - it suddenly stopped sync'ing Outlook contacts and appointments with no reason or explanation. I've been waiting a couple months for that solution to appear, but nothing as yet. I've tried all of the various suggestions like uninstalling, reinstalling, re-formatting, etc. to no avail. The ability to sync my Outlook info to the Nano was the main reason I bought it. A friend told me to stop beating my head against the wall because the dirty little secret is Apple's support is virtually non-existant. He pointed me to ipod-sync.com which has a sync utility for Windows that runs perfectly and does a lot more than the iTunes/iPod synch lets you do. Now I use that to sync the Nano - I only use iTunes when I'm changing the music stored on it.
