Viewing Contents of Time Capsule

Hi everyone, I need some help, urgently.
I am having much trouble with my time capsule. I will address my issues in different posts.
First, can anyone tell me how to view the contents of my Time Capsule? I do not mean how to go into time machine. I am trying to verify the contents of my TC.
Running 10.5.6 on MBP
Thanks!

I was able to answer my own question. In case someone needs this information in the future, this is how to view the different sparsebundle images stored in your Time Capsule:
Open Finder
Menu Bar---> Go ---> Connect to Server...
Browse
Find and Open Your TC
Running FileVault, this will give you a view of the different sparsebundle images on your TC. I consistently run FV on all my macs so I could not tell you what the alternative will show.

  • View Attached Disk (Time Capsule) on Windows?

I have just brought a new Time Capsule and i have attached a 250GB External HDD. The purpose of this hard drive is to share content over my wireless networks to my other OSX devices. I was wondering if there was a way to see this attached HDD on a windows baised machine? Is this possible?

    P.wrangles wrote:
I had to download and install Airport Utility on the windows PC in order to see the attached hard drives. Once i had done this both the TC data and attached HDD appeared in My Computer.
Yes, that loaded bonjour for windows.. it is not the utility which is important.. it is bonjour.. as I put in my first post.

  • Is there a file browser which can play DVD contents from Time Capsule?

Using File Manager (free Zheng) app I can reach all my files on the Time Capsule (3TB) from my iPad Air2 (64GB). Also I am able to play video content MP4. So far so good.
However I have also several DVD VOB files of homevideo. These I can play on my iMac using DVD player or VLC.
Is there a way to play the DVD content just as easy as the MP4 files do on my iPad? Most file browser do not support this.
I have read a solution to perform it via a server via my iMac. However this is not to my liking.
Should it be possible to re-direct a file URL to lets say VLC player like Stratospherix filebrowser can do?
Is there a good file browser which can play VOB DVD contents?
Can anybody help me before buying several apps and perform the trial and error method ?

I'd recommend File Explorer (orange icon on the iOS app store) - find your NAS with it and try and play your media. It has a video decoder built in so should be able to handle your MP4s. If not, Plex is very good - but would require £2.99 and your Mac to be on when you wanted to watch on your iPad. Let me know how you get on.

  • View files on Time Capsule with 'different' Mac

After my install of Lion failed, the Apple Store did a clean install and renamed my MacBook (I can't remember the exact old name).  Now I need a file off my Time Capsule backup but Time Capsule seems to be thinking the MacBook is not to have access to the existing backed up files because I see no way to gain access to them.
But my question is more general, How can I view and copy particular files residing on Time Capsule with a 'different' Mac?  Can it be searched with a utility of some sort?
    TIA, Allan

If you're talking about Time Machine backups, when your Mac's internal HD was erased, it's treated as a different drive -- and that drive is no longer connected.    See #E3 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
Note that the name of your Mac doesn't matter; Time Machine uses a hardware address to keep track of it.  Only if you get a new Mac or have the logic board (which contains the address) replaced, will that become a problem.

  • Transferring content from Time capsule

I backed up our computers on Time Capsule. Our Imac has crashed and I need to access the backup files from that computer ( on the Time Capsule ) How can I do it. I tried Migrating assistant but it didn't transfer my photo library. How can I access those files ?

Migration Assistant should have transferred everything (unless you omitted things).
By default, the iPhoto Library is in the Pictures folder of a home folder, but some folks move it.
Normally, Time Machine only shows the backups for the Mac it's running on, so to see the ones for a different Mac, you'll need the Browse... option, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question  #17.
Since you're on Lion, if you have iPhoto '11 you can't browse or restore individual photos.  See the pink box in FAQ #15.

  • Backup Contents of Time Capsule

    Hi,
I have a 27" imac running mountain lion and 1TB Time Capsule that I backup to.  I want to take periodic backups of my Time Capsule to ensure an extra level of backup
I seem to remember seeing an option under the Airport Utility for backing up a Time Capsule to another HDD from USB but I can't find it now.
Any ideas on how to do this or has this feature been removed?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Mark

The old archive feature was removed.. Apple decided you no longer need it.
But TM in the Mountain Lion can backup to two different locations.. you can use a USB disk plugged occasionally into the computer and backup to that. (This was always possible by changing target for backup but ML has automated it somewhat).
Or you can manually copy the sparsebundle..

  • Streaming Media Content in Time Capsule

Hi all. Is it possible to stream videos in the inbuilt hard drive of Time Capsule onto a Mac, PC, iPhone and an android phone over a wireless network? Can the TC just act as a LAN server? I just want to create a WLAN with no internet.
    Thanks.
    Deo

to stream something you need a prog or running service. Time Machine is "just" a network attached hard disk. So you can store steams/files on it, and if you like can use that as a network attached disk. But its not a server. On other hand, some TV's accepts network attached as video files storages and you can access these files from your TV - but in this case, the TV is the "stream service" or prog that control the stream.

  • Itunes loses my content on time capsule

Hi I am running a macbook air and keep all my movies and tv shows on the time capsule with the music on the internal flash drive in the computer. Usually I access the tv and movies through my Apple tv and until recently this worked fine.  Recently my apple tv started to not be able to find files on the time capsule if the computer had been disconnected from the network and then reconnected. When I open iTunes to look at the problem the files it cannot find are missing artwork and I have to manually go and 'get info' for each missing movie. This is getting really irritating and any help would be appreciated. The iTunes media folder location in located on the hard drive.
    Thanks a lot

There is no iTunes server functionality on the Time Capsule. So, to do what you are proposing, you would need to relocate your entire iTunes library onto the Time Capsule and launch iTunes with the option key to find the new location. Then you would stream from the Time Capsule drive through iTunes over the network back to the Time Capsule and eventually on to the Apple TV.
People do this, but I wouldn't recommend it. You will be adding a lot of additional load on your network since everything you stream from the Apple TV will have to hop through multiple points on your network. Any issues with bandwidth, interference, range, etc will be magnified, and may bring the whole network to a crawl at times. Just attaching an external USB/Firewire drive to your computer to hold your iTunes data to you computer would be a much faster and more stabile solution

  • Can I View Photos On Time Capsule From My IPad?

I would like to view my photos from an IPad.
    Is it possible?
And if is, how to do it?

It may be possible using an App like File Explorer which can show photos from NAS drives.

  • Time Capsule files

I have just two items on my Time Capsule. A vault of photos from Aperture and a backup of my hard disk. The hd backup is scheduled to update automatically every few hours and, according to the motion of the icon on my desktop, it does so. My photo vault I update manually each time I add photos to my Aperture library. Here's what's puzzling me; When I look at the contents of Time Capsule in Finder I see the two items listed but the adjoining columns say that they were last modified on the date they were created. Shouldn't it show the last modification as the date the last incremental backup was made? I'd hate to have to restore my data from TC only to find that it was months old. Can anyone suggest how I might check this or tell me whether this is normal?

An easy way to check is to run Time Machine and look back. If it's working, you'll see previous dates and times.
Your Aperture data file operates in a similar fashion as the Time Machine file. All your individual items are stored inside the master file. Even though this is a different process (Aperture, like iPhoto, creates a package file), the disk/file management is pretty much the same. To check that file, run Aperture and look for your stuff. If it's there, well.... it's there.
Remember though, just because you have Aperture using the TC drive for your photos, it does not mean they are getting backed up. Should anything ever happen to the Aperture file, or should you accidentally trash a bunch of stuff you need later.... you don't have a backup (Time Capsule only backs files up on your local machine, or on drives directly plugged into that local machine).
    Hope that info helps!

  • Is it possible to look a photos from iMac/iPhoto (or Time Capsule)) with iPad?

    Hi,
I have all my photos in iMac/iPhoto. I have also a back up available in Time Capsule.
Apple TV device is also available and connected to videoprojector.
I want to look my photos with a iPad? How to to that?
And is it possible to get those viewed from a Time Capsule -> Apple TV -> videoprojector?
    Thanks

Using that system, no it's not possible to edit a pic from the shared library and have the edit reflected on the min library. That sharing is intended for viewing only, and the shared library cannot be altered in any way by the client.
If you want the other machine to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
    Quit iPhoto on both machines
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a dmg.
(Some people have had success putting the library in the Users/ Shared folder. If you do this make sure the file permissions are set to allow read/write access to everyone.)
On each machine in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both machines will have full access to the library, in fact, both machines will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Macbook sporadically fails to connect to Time Capsule

I've searched high and low for a solution, but I haven't even been able to locate any other mention of this exact problem, so I figured I'd ask here.
Ever since I got my Time Capsule set up, it has worked perfectly as a wireless router. My internet connection is flawless. However, as an external drive, I am so far less than pleased. I can connect to it, browse the files, and perform Time Machine backups...sometimes. But for reasons unbeknownst to me, it frequently disconnects, and then sometimes is unable to connect again.
For example, right now, when I open up Finder and click on my Time Capsule in the sidebar, the first thing I notice is that the icon next to the TC name is not a picture of a TC, but of an iMac. If I click "Connect as," it tries to connect for a while, then says "Connection failed" and pops up a window with "The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again." I also cannot print wirelessly. However, as I said, //something// is clearly functioning properly, because I am connected to the internet flawlessly.
As a side note, just in case it's relevant, the worst part of this problem is that I store all my music on my Time Capsule. Apart from being very scary in and of itself to be unable to access my music and unsure if it's still okay, every time my TC disconnects, iTunes stops working and reverts its settings back to use the Music folder on my Macbook's HD, which is, of course, empty.
I would very much appreciate any help anyone has to give, and feel free to let me know if you need more information from me. Thanks!

I know your pain. I have had a third party supplier/rep trying to help me with this as long as I have had my Time Capsule.
Previously I used an Airport extreme with a 500gb Lacie miniHub that I connected via firewire to use as a file server. It worked great...for a while. then I could not connect after an Apple upgrade.
So just as I was trying to figure out how to get all of the Mac's in the office to be able to share a drive and it's contents wirelessly Time Capsule came out. I bought a 1T version. Everything was set up just like the directions indicate and the supplier/rep did the work. It worked great and was fast. As you, I have no problems with internet access or screen sharing etc...
However, I bought this product primarily for the "server grade" 1T drive so that I could use it as a file server. I may at some point use it to back up as well, but not right now.
I have the same problems as you and I hear that there is an update coming that may fix the problem.
Anyone else with suggestions or problems like we are experiencing?

  • Time capsule and air play

I'd like to use my time capsule with iPad and iPhone, I would also like to see the contents of time capsules (photos and video) with apple tv. I think an update would suffice.

You cannot see content with Apple TV unless you either JB the ATV or load iTunes on to the TC.. which is not recommended.
I am not sure what update you are hoping for??
The iOS by its nature cannot read files if you store them on the TC you will need a file app loaded on the iOS devices.

  • Deleted files from Time Capsule by mistake. How can i recover them?

I was using DiskTracker to organize the contents of Time Capsule. I deleted some folders from within DiskTracker unaware that this would delete files from Time Capsule itself.
I have several recovery software but none of them is able to see Time Capsule, as it is connected through my Lan. I have a lot of valuable data and i would appreciate any suggestion or help on recovering these folders. Please note that i have not written or deleted any files since the accident.

I have the same issue and am about to make another post ... Have you head anything or gotten any tips?

  • How can i gain access to my data on a Time Capsule after a fresh install of Mavericks? I can't access any backups through Time Machine... They appear purple/transparent, and I can't even select them to view their contents. PLEASE HELP!!!

So, I've got several thousand photos, and a decent amount of videos of my daughter, along with a lot of stuff for work stored on my Time Capsule, and now I can't access any of it. I did a fresh install of Mavericks on my MacBook Pro last week sometime, and haven't been able to figure out how to get my files back. Please Help!!! My daughter is 2 and a half, and every picture/video I have of her is locked on this thing. I was planning on making some photo/video projects fo my wife for Christmas, and now I'm definitely not going to be able to pull it off. Her birthday is at the end of January, though, so if I could have it by then, that would rule!
Basically, the bar on the right of the screen has some gray dates, which I can access (all backups after the Mavericks install), and purple dates that go all the way back to March (when I originally purchased and began using the TC) which deny me access/viewing. It's possible that I created a slightly different user name when I reset my MacBook, which I guess is most likely the cause, but I have no idea what to do now to correct it. Thanks for taking the time!

    Mavericks does really nasty stuff..
Try manually mounting the sparsebundle and extract the files you want.
    Yet another Pondini reference. http://pondini.org/TM/15.html
We have avoided Mavericks you see knowing that it would cause these kinds of issues..
You never ever load a new OS without doing a disk image beforehand.. TM is not reliable enough or trustworthy to be depended on.
If none of the above work..
I would get a USB drive on the computer and install Mountain Lion or whatever OS you had before you unfortunately upgraded to Mavericks.. Then use TM from that decent installation but mount the sparsebundle and choose the backup from a date well before mavericks was installed.
Once you have extracted the files.. or even done a full restore you might be able to extract the files you want.
