Viewing CR2 files EOS 30 and 50D

Need help. I have an EOS 30D and 50D but I cannot view then in Digital Photo Professional. Ok in Zoombrowser. But in Adobe Bridge, some are viewable, others not. Had no troble until I had to reinstall programmes due to corrupt Registry. Had to do a total clean.
HELP please.

Thanks for your help, this is how it worked for me:
First I confirmed by opening Photoshop Elements which plug-in version it was running by selecting in the Menu:
Photoshop Elements
About Plug-In
Camera Raw...
Then I closed Adobe Photoshop Elements and downloaded the Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter from:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=4033&fileID=3759
Once the file was downloaded I opened it showed two files insider, ADOBE DNG Converter and Camera Raw.plugin
I searched the folder where the old 4.3.1 plug-in version is located, it was found in the root:
~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats/Camera Raw.plugin
I renamed the old 4.3.1 plug-in for backup purposes and placed the recently downloaded version of the file in that folder. In order to verify that the procedure worked I opened Adobe Photoshop Elements again and verified which plug-in version was the program running now:
Photoshop Elements
About Plug-In
Camera Raw...
The new version is shown, Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Bridge CS3 work as expected now.

Were you experiencing this message prior to removing Photoshop CS5 Extended?  If not what prompted you to reinstall?  Finally what version of Windows are you using?

Are you receiving an error when installing or are you unable to view your CR2 files once Photoshop is installed?

  • ACR Plugins not working and Bridge won't view cr2 files

Hey there.. I've been using Photoshop/Bridge/ ACR for 7 years now but from memory I have had this issue before when installing.
My laptop just got a new hard drive and fan and I've had to reinstall everything.
I downloaded 3 different ACR plugins and none of them have enabled Camera Raw reading for bridge.
    I'm using CS6 with Canon 5dmk2 cr2 files.
    I have tried 7.1
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Camera Raw 7.1 Update
    I have tried 6.7
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update
    I've tried this link
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 8.8
and I've tried a Microsoft codec pack somebody else suggested
Download Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (6.3.9721.0) from Official Microsoft Download Center
    Please help....

The 5D2 only needs ACR 5.2 or newer so your current version of ACR 7.1 should open the files.
If ACR isn’t enabled in Bridge then the usual thing is to launch Photoshop and open a raw file at least once without using Bridge, with File / Open or PS / Open.
Doing Help / Updates from PS should install the latest ACR version for you in case that helps.
You can also try installing ACR manually.
If you have a newer OS like Windows 7+ or OSX 10.8+ then try ACR 8.8 is what you want to install:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/camera-raw-plug-in-installer.html
If you have an older OS like Windows Vista or OSX 10.6.8 then ACR 8.3 is what you want an installer further down on this page:

  • Cannot view cr2 files in Bridge cs4 & Windows 7

I can not convert the cr2 files in cs4      nor read them with new Windows 7      Home Edition 64 bit computer
Upon      downloading from my camera I am unable to view the images.
After      downloading the file, when clicking on the file in Bridge to bring it into      Photoshop I get the following message” Could not complete your request      because it is not the right kind of document”
I am      able to view the images on the media card from the camera.
I have      contacted Canon and they suggest that it’s a software issue and that I      should  go to the Adobe website and      look for Windows 7 64 updater.
I was      unable to find anything with this reference but I updated to Bridge 5.7.
After      trying to see the images after the update I was still unable to view the      images so I logged onto the Adobe Support site and was told that they no      longer support cs4.
    Any suggestions ?

Keep in mind that if your camera is newer than the last released version of Camera Raw (5.7) for Photoshop CS4, Adobe does provide a free solution for compatibility, as Curt has mentioned, through the use of the free DNG Converter application.
The way that works is this:
    1.  You get your raw images from your new camera into a folder on your computer.
    2.  You run the latest DNG Converter application and choose the folder.
    3.  It converts the entire folder full of images to .DNG files.
    4.  You open a DNG file as you would an older raw file, with your old version of Photoshop.
While the DNG Converter provides you a way to continue to use your older Photoshop software with a new camera, keep in mind that there are significant improvements in the raw converter in the latest version of Photoshop that may allow you to make better images out of your raw files if you do choose to upgrade Photoshop.

  • Viewing CR2 files in Bridge/Photoshop

Using the CS4 suite, downloaded the Camera Raw 5.6 updater and it doesn't seem to do anything.
How can I view CR2 Canon raw files in Bridge and open in Photoshop?

What camera model/make are you using?  If a later model ACR of CS4 might not cover it.

  • After updating Bridge & PS, still unable to view CR2 files from Canon M3

I cannot view CR2 Raw files from the Mark III on Bridge CS6 and Photoshop CS6 to convert into TIF and JPG files for a client. I have updated all of my Adobe programs, restarted, and the files are still not showing up for me. Help please!

    Thank you for elaborating.
Your system should absolutely be opening those files.  Any of the versions of ACR (Adobe Camera Raw Plug-in) that run with Photoshop 13.0.6 can and will open those files if properly installed, that includes the current version, ACR 8.6.
Go to About Plug-In > Camera Raw… in the Photoshop menu and see what version shows up there, just to check that the plug-in is installed correctly.  There should only be one version of ACR in the plug-in menu.
That Canon camera model has been supported ever since ACR versions 6.7 in CS5 and 7.1 in CS6.
If ACR only shows once in the plug-in menu and you still cannot open your file(s), then you in all probability have corrupted files.
The fact that you can see the images in Apple's Preview means nothing, only that Preview is showing you the embedded JPEG preview embedded in the file. Such JPEG previews generally do not get corrupted even if the raw file has been corrupted.
I hope you have the original CR2 files or good backups.

  • Can't open CR2 files in photoshop and camera raw

This weekend I rented a Canon 5D Mark iii. I have downloaded the files and all of the thumbnails in camera raw say CR2 and when I try to open Photoshop does not recognize this product.
    I have:
    Photoshop CS4
    Camera Raw CS4
    Canon 5D Mark ii
I have checked my updates folder and all my updates are current. Do I need to upgrade to CS5 or is there a way around this?

Hi I recently had a problem opening CR2 files in PHotoshop cs4. I had to reinstall into a new computer, so obviously it installed the basic programme and not the updates.
After trying everything, even calling the help desk, there was apparently nothing that can be donw as they no longer support cs4.
I kept trying and found a you tube video, which i cant find again to add the link but i followed the link and with what I did earlier I can now open CR2 files in my photoshop cs4
I found the relevany update that I needed to install and downloaded it, camera raw 5.2 ( Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Camera Raw 5.2 update )  this is the one for the Canon 5d Mk2
After downloading it would not update the progeramme so I was in the same possition, but i noticed the files were there and i just needed to put them in the right place in photoshop so carried on looking for were to put the Plus In.
This led me to the video.
    To the point.
Download the update and save to a location where you will remember.
open Adobe photoshop and go to "edit"
    Them " Preferences "
    then "General "
    Then " Plus-Ins"
At the top you will see " Add Plug-Ins Folder " Check this box then navigate to the "win64" ( this is because mine is a windows 64 bit computer and the download is specific ) and Choose it.
Shut down photo shop and try to open a raw.
Bridge doesnt work for some reason but im going to keep looking.
Hope this works for you as well.

  • UNABLE TO VIEW ANY FILES IN TRASH, AND UNABLE TO DELETE THEM.

Hi i wondered if someone can help ,me on this one as i have searched for an answer and nothing works.
I have upgraded to my new iMac and migrated all my files over, i have now deleted some of the unwanted files and folders, to free up space.
HOWEVER - i have tried deleting them and cant, so as some of them are locked i went back into the trash to unlock them and even though there are thousands of files in the trash none of them are viewable, so i cant drag them back out, drag them to the terminal window or anything.
    I have repaired privileges
I have tried to use the terminal window and delete files, but cant view them to drag them
I have tried to secure deleted them
My problem is i cant view the files so i cant do anything with them.
Does any one have any ideas,
should i try to delete the .trash file as i think someone mentioned in which case how do i do that.
Any help would be fantastic. Thank you in advance
    Kris Watson

I have managed to resolve this problem (however it is still deleting the files so fingers are crossed still.) Thanks for the help by the way.
A friend showed me a way to do it, thought ide put it out there so people might benefit from it.
I restarted with the shift key pressed down. after about 4-5 mins it starts in Safe Boot mode, ive logged in, and started to secure delete the files and it seems as though it is working although very slowly as there are thousands of files.
The reason the are so many files is that they are all 'old' time machine back ups from my old powerbook. Me being the extra cautious bunny that i am have several copies of every file anyway 'just in case', so it will take house but it will free up huge amounts of space.
    thanks again

  • Modified CR2 files in ACR and changes were not saved

I have a directory with 1400 CR2 files in it. I have a stack of picks that I am working with. I went through and for 6 hours adjusted all the images by opening them in Camera Raw and making changes to White Balance, Fill light, etc... When I was done, i clicked done to save the changes to the file (Like I've done many many times before). However most of the modifications were never saved. All the files have sidecar xmp files, but most show original files without modification. I edited approximately 580 images this way and probably 20% kept the changes and the rest "seem" to have reverted back to their original "As Shot" state. Any ideas what happened? Is this reversible or did I just waste my life?

Look at the folder in windows Explorer.   What are the time stamps on  the xmp files?  Do they appear to be "current" -- that is, timestamps approximately when you performed the ACR edits and pressed Done?  Or do 70 to 80% of them have earlier time stamps?  Current time stamps would suggest that xmp files are being written or updated, possibly omitting some ACR edit data; earlier time stamps suggest that the xmp files were not updated by ACR-Done.
Sequence the xmp files by Date Modified.   Do the xmp file time stamps appear to be in time groups?  If you clicked Done after editing 20-25 images in ACR, you would expect to see 20-25 xmp files with the same file modified date and time.  If you see this, it suggests that entire groups of edits were saved; but some groups of edits that should be saved by a Done from ACR may not have been saved to xmp.  If you see groups of substantially fewer than your usualy edit Done sets of 20-25, it suggests that only some xmp files were written.
Since it looks like that you will need to go back and redo the edits to a good many of your 580 images, you might try looking at the xmp files after each ACR Done.  Sequence the xmp files by Date Modified.  Is the number of file modified timestamps with the 'now' date and time the same as the number of files you just edited in ACR?
In Bridge, do the just-performed edits appear in the thumbnails?  Look a the ACR values in the metadata for each of the just-edited images.  Do they show the values you just edited?  (Be sure that you have checked on Camera Raw metadata in Bridge preferences.)

  • Cr2 files go Black and white

Hi - I'm new to the forum - and to Photoshop! I'm currently using (ie - trying to learn) Cs5 on Windows 7. I've searched the forum but can't find an answer to my problem. I can open Cr2 files ok but when I go to save them (as a Raw) file I get the message "Some image data cannot be saved with this file format. Save anyway?". On opening the saved file I get a greyscale image - but it looks as though multiple images have been overlaid on each other and not aligned properly. Can someone please help me from the bottom of a very steep learning curve?

The Photoshop Raw file format isn't the same thing as Camera Raw, it's a very old file format that doesn't support much of anything. Also, you cannot save to camera raw file formats (CR2, NEF, those ones) so don't bother looking for a way. If you want to save your documents with layers and everything then use something like .PSD or .TIFF

  • I'm new to the Apple products. How can I view pdf files since Apple and Adobe don't play together?

I'm new to the Apple products. How can I view pdf files and videos since Apple and Adobe don't play together? Also, what operating system does the iPhone use? I'm a Windows person.

You may want to download and read the manual for your phone. It may answer a lot of the basic questions.
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#iphone
There is an app on your phone called "Mail". Yes, it's for reading your email.

  • How do I view Powerpoint files without Office and Keynote?

Someone sent me a Powerpoint file today. I was able to view it
using Keynote, but now my 30-day trial has started and I have no intention
    of buying iWork.
I have Word2004, not Office2004, which will display Powerpoint files.
Microsoft used to have a free Powerpoint viewer pre-OS X. Is there anything in Tiger what will do this? If not, what would you recommend the next time I get a Powerpoint file?

    Hi gwgoldb;
Sent it back and ask for them to send it in a different format.
If they insist on sending it to you in Powerpoint that is what the delete key is for. You might let them know that you intend to delete any future emailwith Powerpoint attachments.

  • Viewing iMovie file on web and on PC

I am new to the Mac world but i created a file in iMovie. Now my boss want to post it on our website and I am not sure how to get him the file and what format it needs to be in. Also, one of my co-workers wants to keep the file also to run on a windows machine. What format do I need to put it in so that you can watch it on a windows PC and how do I do this. Both of these users are on Windows. I am working in iMovie '11.

The easiest way to post something on your website is to put it on YouTube and embed it. There are also other services that might allow this, such as Vimeo.
If your website has video hosting capability and enough bandwidth you can host it yourself. You would Share your movie in the size you want in h.264. (All the presets in the Share menu are h.264).
To watch the movie on a Windows machine, I would recommend that you ask the Windows users to install QuickTime Player, which is a free download from Apple. Then, the files you have already made will be watchable on their Windows machine.

  • Blue patches in shadow areas when viewing .cr2 files in Develop module

    LR newbie.
The last batch of images imported from my Canon 7D are all showing blue patches in the shadow areas.
    LR 5.2, Camera Raw 8.2
I am wondering if it is linked to lens profiles, as it appears to have started since I have begun using the Sigma 30mm 1.4 lens.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Regards,
    Andrew

No, it isn't that at all. Those blue patches are there because the clipping indicators are on, and the blue is showing that your shadows are being clipped. You can turn the indicators on/off by pressing the J key. If you see red patches on your image, that indicates that your highlights are being clipped.
