Viewing Descriptions on a podcast?

This is so broken, I just can't believe Apple doesn't know about it.
So I'm listening to a podcast, right? And I want to see the show notes. On my old 5G iPod, I hit the button a few times, a few screens scroll by, and there they are. If it's a song, I do the same, and if there are lyrics entered, it shows me those. It knows the difference. Easy.
On the Touch? You can only get lyrics when you tap on the screen. Never a Description. If you're seeing a Description, you're seeing it because the podcast producer knows about this bug and is pasting their information in the Lyrics field as well. Which they shouldn't have to do, and in fact most don't.
This *drives me nuts* that Apple screwed this up, and then has the audacity to run those Mac/PC ads talking about how great they are and then playing fast and loose with the truth when it comes to the PC side.
Has anyone managed to get Apple's ear about this, and what did they say, if so?

Did you read this part?
If you're seeing a Description, you're seeing it because the podcast producer
knows about this bug and is pasting their information in the Lyrics field as
well. Which they shouldn't have to do, and in fact most don't.
What you call "lazy" I call "not wanting to implement a crappy duct-tape workaround so that Apple will actually be inspired to fix their bugs."

  • Clicking on the "i" button at the end of the description of individual podcasts crashes iTunes every time.

I recently updated to version 10.5.1.42, after being seriously out of date ( I'm pretty sure I was running 9.0.1). The new version runs OK except for crashing every time I click on the little "i" button where the description of individual podcasts gets truncated. I get the "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close message" and the option to send an error message to Uncle Bill Gates - like he actually cares about compatibility issues with an Apple product!!
The "i" button isn't the single most important feature of iTunes, but it is sometimes useful and I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered and fixed this. I'm running XP, service pack 3 and hoping to hang on to it for a while. Yeah, I'm old and resistant to change, but I realize that you have to give in and update eventually or your stuff stops working. So I'm hoping that this isn't about XP, but if it is, I guess I'll just have to live without the "i" feature.
Something that might possibly be relevant to this issue: I did go in and roll back to my previous video driver after, I'm told, the iTunes update installed its own and screwed with all my other settings elsewhere in my system: made my desktop icons much bigger, changed the font in my Gmail account, etc. This happened last time I updated iTunes a couple of years back and was the reason I resisted updating since then. This is also the reason I have not tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Thought I'd try this post first and see if anyone had an answer.
    Thanks

    Simple solution... don't do that.
Check for Windows Updates, most likely the system is missing one or several.

  • PE 9 and 10 Help PDF Invalid List View Descriptions

Bottom line: Has anyone reported on these problems, and, if so, what is being done about them?
Until proven otherwise, I believe that Premiere Elements 9 and 10 Help PDF requires editing of its List View Descriptions which are appropriate for at least version 8.0/8.0.1, 7, and 4, but not versions 9.0/9.0.1 and 10.  Please refer to the Help PDF Projects/View Clip Properties
    for version 10:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premiere...B-312BB3F13B11
    for version 9:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Premiere...355c-7f98.html
Problems in this regard for Premiere Elements later than version 8.0/8.0.1 and not for versions 8.0/8.0.1, 7, and 4:
    1. List View Properties display in text for export video file, no Data Rate Analysis graphs
    2. List View Columns, no ADD to add your own columns, so only Adobe built in ones, and none of the Adobe built in ones, like Client, allow for editable text.
    Comments:
    Data Rate Analysis
I had read somewhere that these graphs appear for tape based rather than non tape based imports. Mini test: Premiere Elements MPEG4.avi import and DV AVI export of the MPEG4.avi. Results: Version 8.0/8.0.1 Properties for import in text format (file properties) only and Properties for export in text format (file + export properties) as well as display of Data Rate Analysis graph. Versions 9 and 10 Properties for import (file properties) and for export (file + export properties), both import and export text only.
    List View Columns
    1. If I look at the project.prel WordPad documents and the Client Column information there in each, I do not see any difference.
    2. If I create a Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 project, set List View column choices Comments and Client, type in the comments and client information, and save/close/and re-open the project in:
    a. Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1, the Comments columns and its information will not appear; the Client column will appear, but its information will not be editable. (The 9.0/9.0.1 version does have Client, but not Comments, as a built in choice under Edit Columns)....the latter might explain why no Comments column except...
    b. Premiere Elements 10, neither the Comments nor Client columns and their information will appear. (The 10 version does have Client, but not Comments, as a built in choice under Edit Columns.)
    One of the Potential Problems:
It is well accepted that, if you edit a project from an earlier version in a later version, you cannot go back to the earlier version for editing. So, one potential problem that I see in all this is the loss of this type of information on upgrading from 8.0/8.0.1 and earlier....
    a. If you create a Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 or earlier project which includes Comments and Client information in these List View Column choices, you will lose all that information in version 10 and have only non-editable Client information in version 9.
And, yes we have filed an Adobe Feature Request/Bug Form on this one.
Any comments about what I may have overlooked in trying to get those Help PDF List View Descriptions to work for me would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    ATR

I definitely agree that the Help files could use some updating, Tony.

  • How do you find out how many views and downloads a podcast has had?

How do you find out how many views and downloads a podcast has had?

Your question may be better placed in the "Producing Podcasts" forum instead of here in iTunes for Windows.
I assume though (I don't produce Podcasts), that the host server (where the Podcast is downloaded from) has the option of providing that information to the Podcast's producers.
    Two points though;
That information is likely to only be available to the producers of that Podcast, not to listeners (or competitors)
It's almost certainly an add-on service, that needs to be paid for, in addition to the hosting service.
If it's your Podcast, check with the host service that you use.

  • I can't seem to get the iTS to update the description of my podcast, nor refresh to show new episodes?

I recently launched a podcast series (http://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/notes-from-northwest-passage/id449063851) but its still showing an older description text with some typos and an incorrect link in it, as I registered it with a pre-edited file so it would be in line for review while I finalized the details, and now I can't seem to get it to refresh and show the new texts at all, even though I edited the description texts in the xml file well over 2-3 weeks ago.
I've tried redoing this file several times.  It always validates but changes never get picked up by the iTunes store.I can manually subscribe to the feed using iTunes' advanced menu, with no problems. The feed is at:
    http://a4.g.akamai.net/7/4/66750/v1/smb2.download.akamai.com/66750/http/podcasts /archaeology2011/arcticarchaeology2011_eng.xml
I recently (about 3-4 days ago) tried redirecting the feed to a new version of the xml file stored in a new folder, just to see if that would somehow jolt it back into reading it, but again after 3-4 days it hasn't done anything.
It's also not showing any of the most recent episodes even though they have all been there about a week, so the store should have picked them up by now, no?
    Any suggestions?

If you look at the feed, and look at the entry 'The end to an exciting field season in Aulavik National Park' you will see the line:
    <pubDateFri, 29 Jul 2011 04:00:00 GMT</pubDate>
You have not closed the 'pubdate' tag - there should be a '>' as the 9th character. Because the tag has been left open, it invalidates everything which follows it, and thus the entire feed. iTunes therefore cannot read it, which is why the Store has not updated. Add the '>' and republish, and all should be well.
It's always worth checking your feed by subscribing manually, from the 'Advanced' menu, or by clicking the 'subscribe free' button on the Store page (both do the same thing) - if you can subscribe to the feed it should be OK.

  • List view not showing all podcasts

Guys, I have the annoying problem that podcast management by itunes and the podcast app are F'ed up.
Not too lobg ago I experienced my ipad greying out most podcasts that were downloaded and on my ipad, for no reason at all. it took me 2 days fiddling with settings and ended up having to set every sync to "on" and set donwloading to "all" and "keep all podcasts"
Now I'm experiencing the problem that the "list" view in podcast app, is not showing all podcasts, but the "thumbnail" view is (as far as I can tell...). Why is this and how can I fix it to make sure both views show everything?
    I'm running iOS 7.0.6 and iTunes 11.1.5

    Hey there sporry,
It sounds like your Podcasts app is not showing your library correctly in the List view but Thumbnail looks ok. I recommend the troubleshooting in the article named:
iOS: An app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1702
    Restart the app
Close the app and open it again.
    Restart your device
Turn the device off and on.
Update your device software and your apps
Update your device to the latest version of iOS.
    Update your apps:
Open the App Store and tap Updates.
If updates are available, tap Update All.
If asked, enter your Apple ID password. The updates will download and install.
You might need a Wi-Fi connection to update some apps.
Install another app from the App Store
If your installed app won't open, download and install a free app that isn't on your iOS device. This should reset your Apple ID authorization.
Remember to use the same Apple ID that you used to download the app that you're having issues with.
    Reinstall the app
Remove the app from your device and reinstall it. Remember that deleting an app also deletes its data.
    Delete the app.
    Press the Home button.
Go to the App Store and download the app again.
Wait for the app to download, then open it from the Home screen.
If the download stops, you can resume it.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • How do I view images in enhanced podcasts in iTunes?

I've been making podcasts for years in Garageband, then exporting to iTunes to view in my classroom.  Suddenly in the new version of iTunes I can't find the "view artwork" for viewing my podcasts.  What am I missing?

  • Program to add in the Assignment views Descriptive flexfields segments

    Hi,
I have added two context fields values in the descriptive flexfield "Additional Assignment Details". I see that the view hrfg_employee_assignments has reflected those changes and has included 4 attribute columns:
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW HRFG_EMPLOYEE_ASSIGNMENTS
    (BUSINESS_GROUP_NAME, PERSON_NAME, PREFIX, SUFFIX, FIRST_NAME,
    LAST_NAME, PREFERRED_NAME, MIDDLE_NAMES, TITLE, COLLECTIVE_AGREEMENT_NAME,
    ASSIGNMENT_NUMBER, NORMAL_START_TIME, NORMAL_END_TIME, PRIMARY_FLAG, INTERNAL_ADDRESS,
    MANAGER_FLAG, EMPLOYMENT_CATEGORY, ASSIGNMENT_TYPE_CODE, ASSIGNMENT_TYPE, WORKING_HOURS_AMOUNT,
    WORKING_HOURS_FREQUENCY, EMPLOYEE_NUMBER, HIRE_DATE, ORIGINAL_DATE_OF_HIRE, WORK_TELEPHONE_NUMBER,
    SUPERVISOR_NAME, SUPERVISOR_NUMBER, SALARY_BASIS, ORGANIZATION_NAME, POSITION_NAME,
    JOB_NAME, LOCATION_NAME, GRADE_NAME, PEOPLE_GROUP, PAYROLL_NAME,
    RECRUITMENT_ACTIVITY_NAME, VACANCY_NAME, USER_ASSIGNMENT_STATUS, PER_SYSTEM_ASSIGNMENT_STATUS, PAY_SYSTEM_ASSIGNMENT_STATUS,
    PRIMARY_FLAG_CODE, MANAGER_FLAG_CODE, EMPLOYMENT_CATEGORY_CODE, FREQUENCY_CODE, PER_SYSTEM_STATUS_CODE,
    PAY_SYSTEM_STATUS_CODE, PEO_GRP, PEOPLE_GROUP_50309, CONTEXT, DATE_OF_TEST_2,
    TIME_OF_TEST_2, PLACE_OF_TEST_2, TYPE_OF_TEST_2, DAYS_FOR_PAY_3, HOURS_FOR_PAY_3,
    *"PROM/DEM/TRANSF_ORDER_NUMBER_3"*, ASSIGNMENT_ID, BUSINESS_GROUP_ID, GRADE_ID, JOB_ID,
    LOCATION_ID, ORGANIZATION_ID, PAYROLL_ID, PERIOD_OF_SERVICE_ID, PEOPLE_GROUP_ID,
    PERSON_ID, POSITION_ID, RECRUITMENT_ACTIVITY_ID, SALARY_BASIS_ID, SUPERVISOR_ID,
    VACANCY_ID, COLLECTIVE_AGREEMENT_ID)
    AS
    SELECT .....
I see that it has added comments in these view columns :
    DESC CONTEXT,800,PER_ASSIGNMENTS,A
    DESC SEGMENT,800,PER_ASSIGNMENTS,A,ASS_ATTRIBUTE1
    DESC SEGMENT,800,PER_ASSIGNMENTS,A,ASS_ATTRIBUTE2
    and so on.
Now I disable those value codes in the descriptive flexfield from System Administrator and add two new context values.
Which program should I run to reflect these changes in HRFG_EMPLOYEE_ASSIGNMENTS view?
    Thank you.

Unfortunately Microsoft decided to make things complicated in 2010. Resource.Assignment.Text1 is not the same as Task.Assignment.Text1.
As far as I know, VBA is the only solution. I would run the code in the before_save event.

  • View images from enhanced podcasts on AppleTV (2nd gen)

Is there a way to view the images embedded in enhanced audio podcasts through AppleTV? I listen to a number of photography podcasts that discuss particular images but the audio isn't much good if I cannot see the image. Thanks.

An example would be any audio podcast of the Martin Bailey Photography Podcast or the History of Photography podcast by Jeff Curto... Is there a way to view the images embedded in enhanced audio podcasts through AppleTV?
Okay... I selected the Jeff Curto "Photo History - Class 6 Spring 11 - Photography and Painting" podcast for test purposes. The easiest way to view this specific file on the TV2 device seems to be to simply lie to iTunes.
    1) Download the podcast in your normal manner.
    2) Delete the podcast from iTunes and send it to your trash can.
    3) Drag the file back to your desktop.
    4) Change the M4A (".m4a") file extension to M4V (".m4v").
    5) Re-import the file to your iTunes library.
Your audio podcast will now load/play on the TV2 as if it were a video podcast.

  • How do I change picture, author and description of new podcast submitted?

So I just submitted a new podcast, The Jay and Clay Show, and it was accepted by iTunes. However it has the wrong picture, author and description and I need to change it. Apple's technical support e-mail was not too helpful on this. Also I am not too knowledgeable about RSS feeds so if you could please explain the steps necessary to change this that would be great.
My RSS feed URL is: thejayandclayshow.wordpress.com/feed
    and my URL is: thejayandclayshow.wordpress.com

You will need to enter the new name and category in the same places that you entered the current ones. However you need to check whether this will affect the feed URL: some services incorporate the title into the feed URL so changing the title would change that and iTunes would lose contact with the feed. If the feed URL doesn't contain the title you should be good to go. Exepct the Store to take a couple of days or so to update.

  • Is it possible to view a partially downloaded podcast? (or other file)

I'm on satellite and have daily download limit, but wanted to watch the part of the podcast I was able to download. I have a 250MB mp4 file which opens in quicktime with an error message. Is there a workaround that will let me watch the downloaded portion?

Press F11 or select "Full screen" from the menu. (If there are still toolbars floating around after that, right-click on the toolbar and remove the corresponding checkbox.)

  • Not able to Post PodCast Photo icon and description on iTune page...

I Have been working hard and reading everything, Yet I have not been able to understand how to post my _photo icon_ and the description for my podcast page. I am working with Garage Band and iWeb '09.
The photo shows up if you click on the podcast, but not on the main itunes page.
Can I just work from the programs of Garage Band, iWeb and iTunes for this podcast or do I need to the file programing to run things? I have yet to find out how to _add search/key words_ for people to find my podcast.
I really want to make an announcement of this podcast but not till I have everything working. I have been trying many ways and things just do not seem to work.
    Thanks

    From http://MarkerMadness.com

iWeb will not let me change the theme on that page, it wants me to add a new page.
Open your podcast page, click on 'Themes' in the bar along the bottom (I did this in iWeb 08, I don't know whether 09 is different) and select a new theme. I was able to apply a new theme to an existing site. I don't know whether you will need to do this to all the entry pages, possibly you will. Does this not work for you?
Maybe I could name a new page the same and delete the old one. Would this still throw itunes off on my account?
I should think that as long as you were careful to keep the new version with the same name, so that the URL for the feed didn't change, that iTunes would simply accept this as an update.
Not trying to make things more complicated, would it work to change to a blog page so I can be adding show notes and links from the podcast. Will this still work with iTunes and do everything I will need to work out?
That's getting beyond my competence in iWeb (which as I say I don't use) so I'm reluctant to advise on this; once again I can only suggest the iWeb forum.
