Viewing different video types on websites with Safari

I've been having this problem for a while and am finally looking to do something about it. I' pretty sure that I have Windows Media Player, Real Player, and Flash Player plug-ins installed on my Mac, but Safari never seems able to use them when certain webpages require them for media content. Sometimes I get a message from Safari asking if it should try Windows Media player, and then it plays fine. Are all types of video on different websites supposed to just play as long as I have the plug-ins? Or am I wrong about that? What do I need to do so that each player will be used when needed? Should I uninstall everything and reinstall clean? Are there other steps I need to take like changing preferences or something?

OK, sorry, the Save As Web Application option (under save as) is perhaps not available in Safari 3.1.2.
I forgot that I was using the developers version of Safari 4. Ooops!
(No, I don't know when the final version will be released.)

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Network Utility in the icon grid.

So is it necessary to buy a mac to guarantee that a website acts like it should, or is the Safari for Windows enough?

I've had this issue for about a week.
    The article suggested said ...
If RealPlayer is installed, try this first
Turn off Web Download & Recording in RealPlayer
    Launch RealPlayer
Click the RealPlayer icon in the upper left corner of the window and choose Preferences.
Choose Download & Recording from the left hand panel
Uncheck "Enable Web Download & Recording for these installed browsers"
    Click OK and close RealPlayer
    Restart Firefox
This will remove the RealPlayer Browser Record extension from the Firefox Add-ons Manager.
    and this solved my issue.

  • Javascript items will not load into my website with Safari

I have a website that uploaded fine with Safari, www.onefineparty.com. Lately the site does not show the javascript photos, only white boxes. The javascript uploads fine with Firefox on Macs and with non-Safari browsers on PCs.
We have 2 macs that have this problem: MacBookPro and IMac G5.
Both have OSX 10.4.11, with Safari 3.1.2 (4525.22)
    Both have Javascript enabled.
Do I need to tell my potential clients to turn off Safari and use another web browser to view my website?

It holds the answer to your troubles. Safari Inspector show two major errors in the code.

  • My brother can't access his company's website with Safari or Firefox

This is driving me nuts. My two brothers own a home building company and paid me to design and put up a website for them. My brother Scott, who I recently switched to the Mac, can't access the site with either Safari or FireFox. He hasn't had any trouble accessing any other sites on the internet, just his own!
I can access the site no problem at home with Safari, my other brother can access it from IE 6 on his Windows machine, and Scott can access the site from the Dell sitting right next to his Mac using the same router and satellite modem.
Heres the error Safari gives: "Safari can't open the page "http://www.handhproperties.com" because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection, which sometimes occurs when the server is busy. You might be able to open the page later."
I looked around in the network prefs, security, etc., but couldn't find anything that might cause this. Now this is just a very basic plain Jane website and I didn't include anything fancy. Mostly because I'm not that smart. What could be causing this?
I emptied Safari's cache and went in and deleted cookies from the site (GoDaddy must've put them there because I certainly didn't and wouldn't know how). Immediately after I did that, the Home page of the site loaded but with a bunch of errors and no images. If I clicked on any links I got the same error message as before, so I went looking for more cookies to delete but there weren't any.
He's on WildBlue satellite and my first thought was it had something to do with them because before, when he was on dial up he had no problems accessing the site. He talked to them and they claimed it had to be his Mac. The router is a cheap Lynksys that I don't think has any built in firewall.
Today I upgraded him to Leopard and hoped that a new version of Safari might clear things up but nope.
Any ideas? I'm completely baffled (nothing new there).

    Hi,
Have you tried giving the router a kick? (i.e. turning it off/on )
Sometimes that can do the trick even when another computer connected to it can access the site fine.

  • Multiple users\passwords on the same website with Safari

Coming over from Netscape for MAC to Safari.
Here is the issue-- In Netscape I was able to have multiple users/passwords for the same website page. Netscape controls its users/passwords; not the keychain. With Safari everytime I try to enter the second user/password this wipes out the first user and password.
Is there a way with Safari to have mutlple users/passwords for the same website page?
    Thanks,
    Reed

  • Having a hard time signing into websites with Safari

Hi, I'm having a hard time signing in my username and password for e-mail addresses I use and for message boards as well. I use Safari all the time accept for my school website that requires IE. Anyways, I use Comcast and I have been trying to sign into my e-mail address name and everyime I click "sign in mail" Safari says "Safari Can't Open Page". So then, I went to my AIM mail to sign in there and then it said the same thing. Then I went to this Apple Forum to ask if anyone knows what the problem is, and then when I went to sign into here, the same thing. So right now I am using Camino, but can anyone help me with this problem or is anyone having the same problem as me? Thanks.

I too have been having a problem of logging into certain websites with a username and password. Instead of logging in successfully with Safari, a blank page or an error would occur.
This happened for: citibank, comcast, sprint, and miscellaneous other sites.
This problem apparently had something to do with my cookies since erasing my cookies seemed to solve the problem. Here's how to do it:
Safari -> Preferences...-> Security -> Show Cookies -> Remove All.
Keywords: login error failure log in log-in unable to trouble

  • Problem With Website With Safari and not Firefox

I have just started having a problem with Safari, which I hope someone here will be able to solve pretty quickly. Just recently, when I go to my online banking, I enter my username and password with no problem. My accounts show up. But, when I select one of the accounts, it asks me to log in again. Now, I thought it might be the bank's website that was having the problem, but when I use Firefox to do the say thing, it works fine. I'm wondering if something got corrupted in the depths of Safari that could be causing this problem. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Security tab. Click: Show Cookies. Select your bank site then click Remove. From the same Menu click the Autofill tab. Click the Edit button next to: Other forms. Select your bank site, click Done.
Relaunch Safari. If you still have problems with that site, open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities)
Select Passwords. Right or control click your bank on the righ then click Delete from the pop up menu. Quit Keychain Access. Relaunch Safari. Try your bank site... if the problem persists, open Keychain Access/Passwords and delete: Safari Forms Autofill. Quit Keychain Access and relaunch Safari.
You may need to empty the Safari cache and Reset Safari too.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

  • MSNBC video-can't watch with Safari

I'm unable to watch MSNBC video from either their website or RSS feed.
Anyone else have this problem and maybe a solution. I've got Safari 2.0.4, QT 7.2, Flip4Mac, Adobe Flash and Perian installed.
    Thanks

This has been an ongoing issue with MSNBC, as well as a few other high profile sites. They seem to provide content in weird unsupported formats, and wrap them in a WMV. The Flip4Mac people try to keep up with all the changes, but it's pretty hard to swing with their frequent mods.
Telestream does have a new beta available of F4M, v2.2.0.39 .....might offer a chance at solving this issue. Try it HERE

  • Fan speed and CPU temp viewing Flash video in Firefox vs. Safari ?

My MacBook (two months old) running the latest Safari version (3.1) seems to be working unbelievably hard when viewing a flash video. The temps seem to cycle between the high 60s and mid 70s, and the fan blows at max speed constantly. On the other hand, when viewing the same flash videos using Firefox (2.0.0.12), there is only a slight boost in temp (high 50s to low 60s) and the fan speed hardly increases at all.
    Has anyone else noticed this?
Why would the flash player on one browser be so much more efficient than another (Safari seems to labor, while Firebox breezes along)?

    Thanks!
Well I guess the code in the Safari browser just wasn't well written. This is true even of the later version of Safari. It does work much better in FireFox, with no crazy heat-up or fan action.
I've pretty much given up on Safari now on everything by my iPhone and iPt, and only because I have no other choice.

  • Help Enter a website with Safari or Other non Microsoft browser

    Hi All,
I am wondering if anyone knows of a way for me to enter the site that I use for use on my Mac. I don't have an intel base mac, so I can't use Fusion etc. I have G5.
Here is the URL to the site that I need to log into for work.
    http://link.mlxchange.com
I can not enter using Safari, I've tried Opera 9.25 and 9.5 beta, Latest versions of Firefox and Camino don't work either. Can anyone help me with this. I don't want to go back to my old windows machine just to log into this site.
Thank you all for your help and I hope there is someone out there who knows the solution to this problem.
    Thank you

The authors of that website have specific code embedded in it which is checking for the nature of the browser that is accessing it. Klaus1 has tried to access it using the usual workaround for such things, which is to have Safari pretend to the website that it is a different web browser than it actually is, and reports above that it didn't work.
If that is the case, there nothing you can do from the client side to make it happy. The code on the web server is what is making the determination that it isn't going to let you in, and only the site developers can change that.
My uneducated guess is they are requiring Internet Explorer because they are using some IE-specific technologies which don't work on other platforms (such as Macs) or even other browsers on Windows. Depending on how much has been invested by the site owners into that IE-specific website, they may be unwilling/unable to redevelop it to be compatible with a wider set of clients, but I think at least you should contact them and explain they are cutting out an increasing number of potential customers/visitors. At some point this will become a commercial issue for them.
I'm not sure beyond that advice and klaus1's test above what anyone on this forum would be able to offer, sorry. It's really up to the site authors/owners to not have it locked a particular browser and operating system.

  • No longer able to log into websites with Safari 3.1

Ever since updating to Safari 3.1, I can no longer log into websites (such as my company's Campfire account). It looks like I'm having a problem similar to those described by people who were using Cosmopod 2.2, however...
I don't have (nor have I ever had) Cosmopod installed.
I also don't have an Input Managers directory in /Library or ~/Library.
I've removed all my internet plugins in /Library/Internet Plug-ins
I've reinstalled Safari using the 3.1 standalone installer.
I've tried to downgrade back to 3.0.4 using the Leopard 10.5.2 combo installer (but I can't seem to actually get the combo installer to run).
Any thoughts as to other programs which might be causing Keychain hijacking?
    - Jared

tried it and spent the last 30 min. trying to log in
    as adminstrator..
still no luck with getting through on secured sites..
any other thoughts? did the disk utility,etc..
    He is something to try:
Go into the Control Panel open Accounts, create a new
user. Log into the new user account, open Safari and
try connecting to a well know site that uses SSL...
If it works, it means something is wrong with your
Safari settings in your account, bad preferences,
    etc...
If it doesn't work, you have to delete system-wide
Safari preferences, and perhaps start with Disk
    Utilities, Verify Permissions, etc...

I created a website and inserted a QuickTime vide in it.  I can view it on my PC, but when I go to my website on my i-pad, just a black square with and symbol shows up.  Can anyone help me?

Quicktime X does not support additional codecs (like Flip4mac). You need to download Quicktime 7
QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later
Flip4mac also has Flip Player, try that if Quicktime player 7 fails. Qt player 7 will be installed into /Applications/Utilities
