Viewing download clips, for some receive sound but no video
About six months ago, I began having the experience that when I download a video clip from a website I visit (cookies enabled), on some sites the clip's sound plays without video appearing on the dark screen. I am using Safari 4.0.4 on my iMac. Any help would be appreciated.
That leaves Flash as a contender.
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:

(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

CNN video clip news play only sound but no video
I downloaded the latest windows player and also Quick time Flip for windows. None seems to work. Only the sound of the streaming video came through but no picture. What's wrong with my Safari? Anybody got some input what I did went wrong. Apple computer is not very good with playing most web movies.
I have a MacBook with Quick Time 7.1.1 and I'm having the same trouble with .avi files; the sound plays, but no video just white screen. Also, when I try to use QT a screen comes that says I need some QT components and directs me to the QT website. I have tried to download some of the components and still no luck.
Is there anyone having this same problem, and if so does anyone know how to fix it.

Sound but no video in quicktime 7.2
When I'm on the web trying to view something in Quicktime, I get sound but no video. It was working fine and one day it stopped working. I did download a few plug-ins that may or may not have coincided with this problem. The plug-ins are: mp4vEncoder and Perian.
Did you repair permissions & restart after installing those 2 apps? If so, then try Flip4Mac and/or VLC Media Player.
Otherwise, please post the link/URL of the site(s) you are trying to use.

Sound but no video for some users?
I was pushing a 700k stream last weekend and I was getting a rash of users saying that they had great sound, but no video, while others got video no problem. I'm using JW player for flash, and saw no problems myself on the stream. Any idea why some folks might not be getting video? Sometimes if they hit REFRESH on their browser to reload everything, it *might* start working...
Do they have latest Flash Player? If you know anyone of them, to check issue, share stream with 1 subscriber or share stream with H.264 codec.

Not sure what I did but projects are not showing up in the video window as i skim... Event footage does but project footage has sound but the video screen is gray... How do I get the vido to show in the viewer?
So you can ping and nslookup from your ms to these agents and vice versa right? I wouldn't do a manual install, I would push the agent from the management server. You can uninstall the agent manually, or use cleanmom to get rid of them. Then
do an install from the console. When you initiate the install from the console (management server), should it run into any issues it will dump out an error which will give you an idea of where the problem may be.

Hi! I tried downloading Illustrator for the free trial but I couldn't, it stops at 41% and it doesn't continue the download process. I did everything, uninstalled it and tried again three times, but nothing works. Please help!!

Sound, but no video when streaming a quicktime file through shockwave
When I stream a quicktime movie in the html file hosted on localhost using the Apache server, I get sound but no video. I saved the quicktime movie as part of my cast, linked to http://localhost/~username/mymovie.mov
When I play the quicktime movie itself in my browser, or in a projector, or just within director, the video and sound play simultaneously. But in the browser after converting the dir movie to a dcr and html file, and hosting the dcr and html files on the server, when I open the html file in my browser, only the sound plays. Anyone else encounter similar problems? Any help would be appreciated!Hi guys,
here's some quick notes on how I handle shockwave videos with my projects.
I tend to find that .swf format videos work best under all browsers using shockwave
easiest way:
you can do a standard import of a .swf video straight into a your cast. (not linked)
the problem with this is it tends to create a large dcr file for you users to download
'preloadnetthing' way:
upload your videos to a url location - something like www.mywebsite.com/the_programs_title/dsmedia/videos/video1.swf
(I never use capital letters or spaces)
file - import - internet - <enter the full url pathname to the file>
this will add the file to the add list
set media to : Link to External File (Don't use Standard Import)
now press Import
at this point Director will try to connect to your url - and do a trial download of the linked file
if it works you should now see a new linked video cast member added to your cast
if it fails - (which mine tend to do half the time?) - try it again until it works.
Here I normally view the linked videos property inspector - and change its settings - I turn loop off - and make sure preload is not set.
now comes the code part
To get your videos to play correctly, you will need to preload them into memory, before you play them.
(although it's possible to stream videos - I've never been able to get this to work well - there is a whole bunch of lingo code to deal with streaming videos)

MPEG2 Sound but NO Video on playback
I have QT Pro w/the MPEG2 Plug in (both current version) running on OSX 10.4.11 and when I try to open/play a file I get sound but no video. The file works fine with VLP and if I use Handbrake to encode the file in MPEG4 it will play. Why doesn't the MPEG2 file play? That's why I bought the plug in... Is there some other magic that needs to be done?
I looked at the encoding and it was MPEG so now at least I understand the QT not playing part. Yes the original file was from TIVO downloaded via TiveDecode Manager. I was hoping not to have to do any more encoding to get it to play in QT (want to use a Mac Mini as a Media Center). Using Handbrake I can encode to MPEG4 which does play just fine, it just can take hours to encode. If anyone knows of a better way please let me know. I know on solution is to use VLP as the player but it's not supported in Front Row (from what I can see). Thanks for the help Matti..

Using Azul media player app on my ipad Apple tv will only display sound but not video from movies. Any ideas on a fix. I set mirroring to on but it still does not display video. It will display photos and video recorded from my iphone.
Here are the steps for AirPlay:
Before starting Azul from your (running iOS 5.x/6.x) home screen where have have all your apps we need to turn on mirroring
On your iPhone 4S/5 or iPad 2 or 3, double-click the Home Button to view your recently-used apps.
Swipe all the way to the right to until you see the icon.
Note: If the icon does not appear, go to the "If AirPlay Mirroring is not visible or available on your mobile iOS device" section.
Tap the icon to see the list of available AirPlay devices.
Enable AirPlay Mirroring in this menu by tapping on an available Apple TV, then sliding the Mirroring slider to ON.
Now you should be seeing your iPad/iPhone on your TV.
Start up Azul now and using the settings icon on the top right corner go to the option that say "TV out" ON.
When you do that you will see an Orange screen
Now click "Done" and play the video you want to watch and it will AirPlay -

I imported some footage from my HD Sony Camera with IMovie on my Macbook pro. Then finding the Movie files, copying them to a folder and then burned them to a DVD disk. I wanted to watch the movie files on my PC. I installed the latest Quicktime for Windows XP Pro it opens the file, has sound but no Video.
If I insert the DVD back in my Macbook Pro I can see the Movie files and they play just fine.
Can anyone help with this?

I have searched the forums but could not find the answer. I have a slightly tricky situation.
I have old AVI files on my hard drive captured from a Sony D8 camcorder. I used PE (version 2 I believe) to capture them. This was a couple of years ago. I have around 30 tapes and captured all the material from all of the tapes (around 700GB). I then inlayed the date and time stamp on all the clips using DV Date (an excellent utility). The initial enthusiasm of editing and converting them to DVD's stopped after the first couple of projects ;-)
Fast forward 2 years, when I tried to play the clips, I only get sound and no video (Windows media player, NERO, WinAmp etc.), with one exception, the VLC player. When I get the clips into PE, they work fine! The DV date utility also cannot open the files. It says, only audio stream found and no video stream.
I tried VirtualDub. It plays them without any errors. I then saved them and tried to play with other players. Same problem. Previously every player was playing them fine and now they don't. I am terrified by the idea of re-importing from all the tapes and re-inlaying them with date and time.
What I did between the time they played fine and now was to back-up all the files onto another hard drive and defragment the first hard drive (I am still using the same computer to do all this). Files have the same problem from either drive.
Bottom line, the clips work fine within PE but sound with no video on the media players.
Any ideas?

Just wanted to post a follow-up on my problem for the benefit of others.
I thought all my files are corrupt and decided to capture them again. When I hooked up my Sony D8 camcorder (using FireWire) I had problems again! PrE said "Can't Activate Recorder. Try Resetting Camcorder".
Tried Windows Movie Maker and that gave me a rather helpful (not!) "an unknown error occurred". Back to my troubleshooting again and found a post somewhere on Adobe forums about "regsvr32 qdv.dll" . [Start -> Run and type regsvr32 qdv.dll (there is a space between 2 and q)]. I did that and all of my old files started working! Windows media player now plays them fine. GSpot now says everything is good. I have attached the GSpot output below.
Now the bad news. When I import media files into PrE, there is no audio! Windows media player still plays them fine.
After re-registered the qdv.dll, I had problem with audio but re-starting the PC fixed it.
Now, back to audio troubleshooting in PrE! I will post an update if I am successful.

You won't be able to view them via Apple TV, correct. It is not meant for this function, if that's your intended purpose its best to get a DVD player

go to start > control panel > add/remove programs (or Programs and Features if your on Vista/7). find Adobe Flash Player and uninstall it.
then, visit http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html to get the latest version.
