Viewing embedded media in Safari

Okay, so can anyone tell me why you can't watch embedded media such as flash, or mpegs, in Safari on my IPOD Touch.
?

No way to play flash and most video formats exists on the touch. Pretty much all you can use is the formats defined in the system specs.

  • Viewing embedded media

I have tried on several different pages to view the embedded media. For some reason Safari is unable to play the video. Am i missing a plug in? or do I need to load seperate software?
    Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Files are in mms which is derivation of Windows Media Player and is a RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) that refers back to Windows asf media files.
Unfortunately not all of these files work due to MS blocking the use of newer protocols on the Mac, Flip4Mac cannot play these videos in Safari or Camino (I've confirmed this one) and WMV for Mac is discontinued so it may be some time. Flip4Mac is currently backed by MS so you never know, we may get to see these files soon.........

  • Cannot view embedded videos in Safari 6.0.5

Running OS X 10.8.4 with Safari 6.0.5 and latest versions of all other plug-in software including Flash Player 11.8.800.94
Embedded videos in media sites start by showing a 'Sponsors Message Ad' but then do not play the actual video.
No problem with playing music videos in YouTube with HTLM5 disabled.
Problem the same in Firefox 23.0.1
Any suggestions as fixes recommended in these discussions for Safari/Flash Player problems do not resolve this isssue.
    Thanks

The problem started when I was using OS X 10.7 and updated Safari to 6.0.5; As a last resort, or so I hoped, I installed OS X 10.8.4
Full story probably too long but started with :
Scanning through many threads in the safari community to get an idea of what had been tried before
Reloaded Latest Combo OS X update, which I was told would re-install Safari & any missing files - no joy
Deleted all extensions, reinstalled one by one with test inbetween (Flash Player webpage showed that it was working ok ) - no joy
Checked Safari preferences for allow all plugins with numerous tests - no joy
Cleared Safari caches - no joy
Cleared Safari Cookies - no joy
    Cleared /Library/Internet plug-ins - no joy
Re-installed Flash Player - no joy
All possible combinations of the steps were carried out with each possible solution
Note : So long as Flash Player was shown as working then the playing of YouTube videos was ok. That seemed to indicate that the problem was in both Safari & Firefox browsers not identifying the media video after the sponsors ad had played.
I am in Australia and the media sites being used are au.yahoo.com and ninemsn.com.au ; interestingly when linking to UK & USA media sites or YouTube the problem goes away.
Could this imply that au.yahoo & ninemsn are using different codec conventions that Flash Player doesn't recognise or even some files got lost in the upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Let me know if you need more detailed information as I'm beginning to think that only a clean installation of Mountain Lion may resolve the problem.
    Many thanks for your interest.

  • I have started having problems viewing embedded videos in Safari.

Everything was fine on my iPad 3 until a few weeks ago when the embedded YouTube videos in the forum I visit (using Safari) stopped playing. I get the message...
Your browser does not currently recognise any of the video formats available.
Click here to visit our frequently asked questions about HTML 5 video.
...the thing is though that the videos will play if I open a new tab and go directly to YouTube (I don't use the app) and they will play if use the Atomic Web app to browse the interent.
I just want my Safari back to how it was, oh one more thing the videos play fine if I browse the same forum using Safari on my iPhone 4S.
Any real help will be very much appreciated, thanks in advance.

I am using OS X Mountain Lion. I really dont want to have to reinstall anything. An OS Reinstall is really no less annoying than a Reinstall of the CS6 package. Sadly it looks like this may be the only way forward. Just hope I can do it without losing too much from the machine as it is my work machine.
Thanks for your help and for the link. I just wish Adobe was more directly contactable about issues that come up when using their products.

  • Acro Reader embedded media blocked on internet?

I have a website, www.vincentasl.info, that consists of PDFs containing embedded media, mostly audio, some video. The way it was designed work - and always did until recently - was for each PDF to open in the browser (or at least show no evidence of being downloaded first), and for each embedded media clip to play when an icon for it is clicked (after the user gives permission via an Options dialog that opens the first time a media icon is clicked).
The worked for years, then suddenly when I checked it a couple of months ago, all the media had stopped working. The cursor would not even change to a pointing finger when hovering over one of the icons. The problem occurred only over the internet. All the icons in the same PDFs still opened the videos fine when I loaded the PDFs locally.
I started this post in the belief that this behavior was still current, but just checked again and found that now each PDF downloads to one's local PC, and the icons do work (after the user gives permission, of course).
This is an improvement, but I still strongly prefer for the PDFs not to download first.
Can someone please tell me (or refer me to the appropriate source to find out):
    - Does this reflect a succession of changes in Adobe's security policy?
    - How likely am I to find the rug pulled out from under me in this way again? (I'm devoting a huge number of man-hours to this effort that I don't want to be wasted!)
I should mention the following important fact: These videos are all 'legacy' MOVs. Using the built-in H.264 way of handling video does not work for my situation for two reasons: (1) In the new H.264 interface, the controls (play, pause, etc.) overwrite my sub-titles; and (2) My readers will need the ability to view the videos frame by frame for careful study of eye movements, etc.., preferably with the arrow keys. Both needs are met by the MOV video interface.

Appropriate due consideration for application and end-user security required the shift away for the methods use with "legacy" media and PDF.
Under the circumstances I'd not expect there to be any changes made by Adobe.
    Be well...

  • Windows Media within Safari

When trying to view Canucks highlights in Safari the videos do not play. They are wmv files but what I get is the Quicktime logo with a question mark over it. If I use Firefox to access the videos I have no problems (It knows to use WMP instead of QT).
Anyone know how to get this working in Safari? That is, is there a way to specify which plugin to use with specific media within Safari?
Here is the link to the Canucks videos: http://www.canucks.com/player/new/player.asp?bw=300
I have tried the suggestions here to no avail:
John D Knight III, "FIX for 10.4 Safari 2.0, WMP .wmv .avi files not playing", 09:29am Aug 11, 2005 CDT
    and
Krag, "window media player" #1, 02:14pm Oct 21, 2005 CDT

I was able to fix my own problem. In case others experience the same, here is what I did:
I had intalled flip4mac at some point and I guess had forgotten about it. I followed the instructions to uninstall found here: http://www.flip4mac.com/faqs_wmv.htm and it works now.

  • How to view PDF files in Safari 5.1?

Every time I try to view a PDF file in Safari 5.1.1 (double clicking or using the contextual menu)i, it downloads the file instead. Is there a fix for this?
Adobe tells me that their plugin will not work with Safari 5.1 (with Lion or Snow Leopard) and suggests that I revert to Safari 5.0/Leopard.
    A.

    Go to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins.
Move the PDF Browser Plug-In to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. Try viewing a PDF in Safari.

  • Why can't I view embedded flash videos on my MacBook Pro?

I can view videos on Youtube and embedded videos on some  sites, but when I try to view embedded Flash videos on sites like CNN.com and NBA.com, I just get a black rectangle and nothing loads. I've tried this on all browsers. BTW, I also cannot open up tinted ads that come up in Google searches. I have the latest version of Flash, and I've deleted browsing data and settings and have checked "Allow sites to save info." I've disabled pop-up window blocker. I have no ad blocking software. I've installed the latest Flip4Mac plugin. I have even set up a new user account and tried these sites with that account to see if the problem goes away (it didn't).
I have a 12 inch 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro with OS 10.8.3 installed (though the problem started when I still had Snow Leopard). I have all the latest browsers and , as I've said above, the latest Flash. I've tried both Java 7 and Java 6. I should also point out that I can access these sites without problem with my office Macbook Pro, which is a 15 inch Core 5, loaded with the same software I have on my problem 12 inch notebook.
    Any suggestions?

You have JavaScript enabled in all the browsers, yes? Have you tried launch the browsers in Safe Mode?

Not aware of a 12-inch Intel MBP. Anyway, could you possibly have an old version of flash player on your computer too. Look in the In the Internet Plug-ins folder to be sure you have only one flash player plugin. Path is HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Flash Player.plugin
Also try searching your hard disk for flash.
Some other things to try are in this thread.

    Hi..
    Go to   /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Move the AdobePDF browser plugin to the Trash.
    Try Safari.
If you have problems locating the plugin...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go

  • Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader?

Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader. I get this error message "Adobe Reader could not open 'OD Test Bed Proposals_0.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."  I have tried changing the 'open with' options too. Thanks

    Try this:
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files
    Empty the trash
Relaunch Safari. You can now download undamaged PDFs.

  • "Error loading media. File Could not be played"  when trying to view streaming media on only some sites.  How to fix?

    Hi!
I've been having a problem trying to view streaming media, but it only happens on some sites.  It's similar to a problem I have on my Windows PC, that's related to Adobe Flash, but since I'm very new to using my iPad Mini, I don't even know if Apple devices have Flash...do they?
Anyway, when I go to a site that's plagued by this issue, I tap the 'Play' arrow on my screen & the circle spins like it's gonna play, but then the screen turns black & this error message appears:
"Error loading media. File Could not be played"  followed by a triangle with an exclamation point !
I read several articles online & the solutions ran from updating firmware in their router, (mine is brand new...installed last Thursday), to disabling ad-block programs in their browsers...(I don't have any enabled), and the last one was making changes to the DNS...(I know it means 'domain name server', but I don't have the foggiest idea how to make changes to it!
Anyway, that's my problem.  I hope that someone out there knows what I can do to fix it!
Thanks in advance for your help.

I would assume an issue with the HTML5 media player.
If those aren't working on Windows then it is possible that the proper codecs aren't installed.
You can try to disable the HTML5 media player and make Firefox use the Flash plugin.
You can do this by setting these two prefs to false on the <b>about:config</b> page:
    *media.windows-media-foundation.enabled
    *media.directshow.enabled
