Viewing Exchange Sub Folders on Iphone 5s

I am using Iphone 5s, and have just switched over to Microsoft 365 exchange for email.
The problem I am describing first occurred whilst I was using iOs 7, but I have since installed iOs 8 to see if the problem goes away - but it hasn't.
My emails are syncing ok, but for some reason I am only able to view some of the sub-folders that I have set up on my laptop (using Microsoft Outlook).
I have tried deleting, turning off and re-installing the email account on the Iphone, but that still doesn't work.
I have tried searching for the "mail folders to push" option in mails / contacts / calendars - where it no longer appears (it used to sit under "mail days to sync".
Under Mail, Contacts, Calendars I have gone into Fetch New Data, selected Push, and then gone into exchange account and selected folders to push.
The problem is not all the folders that should be there are appearing in the first place - so I can't select them to push.
How do I get these folders to appear?
Thanks

So one downside to this is mailbox storage limits. Most companies have hard limits on how much you can put in your inbox... that is why people have folders for stuff outside of the inbox.
But the real issue regarding syncing sub-folders is that they don't sync unless you move into them on the iPhone. So if you have rules that move your mail to subfolders (when they are in the inbox), then going into your folders list in the iPhone will NOT show you that sub-folder "contracts" has new email. You have to open the subfolder on the iPhone.
Sent messages works the same way. The iPhone's sent message folder will not contain the stuff you sent from your desktop until you go into the sent messages folder; this starts the sync of that folder.

Are you referring to folders that you have created on your computer? This would only be possible if this is a mail account that is configured as IMAP or Exchange. A POP account does not sync folders from the server to the mail client.

Isn't HotMail still POP3 mail only (i.e. no IMAP support)?  If that is still the case, then your device is working correctly.  The folders you made are a feature of the web tool for hotmail, and are not part of the POP3 supported email protocol.  Only IMAP mail supports on-server mail subfolders, and those can be accessed from the iPhone mail client.  But POP3 is limited to the inbox solely, as that is literally the only folder that sits on the mail server (your others are on Microsofts web server and supported via the web mail tool).

  • Synching Exchange email Sub-Folders on iphone 3G

There are many posts in this and other forums regarding the inability to synch email located in sub-folders on the iPhone in the Exchange environment. I believe I have found a solution, though I am not an IT expert or even close to it. Here's what I did:
    1. On the iphone, tap Settings.
    2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    3. Tap on your Exchange mail account (i.e. [email protected]).
    4. Set Mail days to Sync to No Limit.
    5. Exit Settings
    6. In your Outlook, drag and drop all your sub-folders to Inbox. I did this one major sub-folder at a time because I have about 4 GB of email, but perhaps it would work just as well if you did it all at once.
    7. Once the sub-folders have been moved to your Inbox in Outlook, wait a couple of minutes and then tap the Mail program on the iphone.
    8. Click the circular arrow icon in the bottom left corner of the touch screen. Keep tapping until you see all your sub-folders.
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK as I have no idea if this causes any problems - it hasn't for me, but then again I know nothing about technology. If anyone has solutions for cutting and pasting or synching notes please let me know.
    Good luck.

    Same here!
The folders still show up on my iPad and iPhone AND i can still move emails into the folders. So in the context of "move email" all the folders show up. But as above, no email folders in the main menu of Mail. I am using an Exchange server too and already setup everything fresh from the start but it did not solve the problem. Looks like nobody tested upgrading an existing Exchange/Apple Mail setup to Mavericks...maybe because Exchange is to exotic. ;-)
Hope this gets fixed soon and I hope it raises some new ideas in terms of QA!

Mail seems to know it's there, as you described, but for some reason just doesn't display it.  Honestly, it seems like someone just made an oversight and forgot to put the little arrow in to let us expand folders that have sub-folders.

  • Unable to view Inbox sub-folders in Mail on OSX Mavericks

    Hello,
I'm working with two Exchange accounts that have the same problem.  Both accounts have sub-folders underneath the Inbox folder.  After upgrading to OSX Mavericks, the sub-folders are no longer visible within Mail. If I go on the web and mark a mail in one of these sub-folders as unread, the unread count on the Inbox increases, however the mail along with the subfolder it is in, are still not visible.  Additionally, if I right-click on the Inbox folder and choose "Get Account Info", and switch to "Messages on Server", I can see the sub-folders listed there, the number of messages in it, and the size of the folder. If I click on the folder within this window and choose "Show Messages" it opens a new, blank, Mail window.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to get these folders to show again?  I tried rebuilding to Inbox to no avail.  I am trying to find a solution that doesn't involve recreating the account in Mail, if possible, as some of the mailboxes I have to deal with are extremely large, and to re-download them all from the Exchange server would take a very long time.
Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help.

  • Mail for Exchange sub folders, any plans?

Does any one know if there are any plans to bring out sub folder support in mail for exchange.
I think this is almost a complete show stopper as current versions of exchange are designed to work with sub folders and the rules written for those sub folders.
So no sub folders support in MfE basically makes it a dead duck IMHO

  • Can't sync email sub-folders with iPhone 4 using iOS 5?

I can sync most everything from my laptop using Outlook except the subfolders in my email.  It will sync email but I have a number of sub-folders to organize my email that will not sync with iPhone.  Any ideas?

So far this seems to have fixed it. For some reason when upgrading to iOS5 it has changed some settings in mail. Now if you send any .mac or .me emails using apple.com no problem. But other services such as optonline.net for example things changed. By checking the smtp settings, there should be a couple, this seemed to fix it, however once I did that all the email in the folder disappeared and said it could not download email without a password, yes the password now disappeared. I put it back in and so far it works sending and receiving on the ipad 2. I am going to try on the ipad1 and iphone 4...............

  • Exchange email folders and sub-folders: iPhone only pulling main "inbox"

    Hello.
I've got iPhone set to access my Exchange email via IMAP. My work computer is an Win XP PRo, running Outlook 2007. My Outlook email folders are organized via rules that most important emails are automatically routed to specific folders (such as from a particular client or staff member).
My problem is The iPhone is only checking for mail in my main inbox. The only way I can get it to check for mail in my sub-folders is to click on the folder. This is a big problem, as I am missing notifications, and have over 35 subfolders!
I've tried and tried to find a setting I can change, or something...but cannot. Does anyone have any recommendations either via iPhone settings or my Outlook rules settings?
    Thanks so much in advance!
    Sovi

Thanks for posting that thread. My problem is slightly different in that it won't pull the mail *at all* -- even to the inbox. The mail is only pulled if/when I click on the sub-folder. At that point, the mail goes go to the correct sub-folder.
For obvious reasons this is an issue -- I miss lots of mail!
I (we) can't be the only ones using sub-folders with this issue.

  • IPhone email sub folders do not sync with Push feature

    Greetings all,
I have been working with the iPhone for a while with one of my tasks being to the iPhone Sync Push technology to work well for us.
Unfortunately it only partially works. It will on push to the root of the INBOX and any other sub folders below the INBOX never get pushed to. The only way to get an idea of if there are new email messages in the sub folders is to individually open each on and wait for it to sync. This is not cool at all.
Am I missing something here? I mean if I have rules running on the server to organize my email messages and the mail server and clients know about the new messages, why does the iPhone ignore them.
I have tried the iPhone with Exchange 2003 and with Kerio 6.6 and get no luck with either. I have lots of other phones connected to both and they sync perfectly, so I am lead to believe that the problem is with Apple.
I thought this phone was supposed to be Enterprise ready?
Am I doing something wrong here?
I heard somewhere that Apple only supports push to the INBOX. If that is true, when will Apple fix it so the phone can be used in the Enterprise?
If anyone has any thoughts on this or if this is working to actually push to sub folders inside of the INBOX with notification of new email without having to open the mail app, I would like to know.
    Thanks for listening.
    Rick

    To all,
After reading your posts, i can definitly relate to the frustration of using the iphone in an enterprise environment. i have to agree that the Blackberry functionality compared to the iphones is day and night. meaning, the blackberry has always geared itself towards corporate america. where in the iphone's case, it's a device made to look pretty and have some positive enterprise add-ons. however, it still remains a "consumer" mobile device.
After upgrading the iphone os, i saw that they have addressed the issue with "sub-folder sync". for many of us, that recieve tons of emails a day, its a given that we need to stay organized, otherwise there would be email chaos.
here is the steps to set auto push to your sub-folders...
    1. Settings
    2. Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    3. Click on your corp mail account.
    4. Click "Mail folders to push"
at this point you can choose the folders that are currently setup in exchange.
there is still a minor bug to this fix, even though you will be notify via chime of a new email in your folder, there wont be an indicator on the email icon on the main page indicating a 1 or 2 or 3 emails you might have. Once you are in the email account and see your folder structure, there will be a number indicating new emails.
final thoughts... they are getting there. im really hoping the new 3gs address all the issues relating to enterprise environment.

  • Using sub-folders to create albums on the iphone - bug discovered?

I searched the forum yesterday looking for help on this subject, but couldn't find anything specific to the issue, so pardon me in advance if this has already been discussed...
Photos on my computer are organized this way:
    My Pictures
    ----2010
    ------03-01-10 Vacation
    ------04-15-10 pictures of dog
    ----------dog one
    ----------dog two
    ------04-22-10 pictures of kids
    (4 layers of folders)
If I choose to sync with the 'My Pictures' folder, and include all sub-folders, I end up with 500 photos in the Photo Library on the phone, and no 'albums'.
If I sync with the folder 04-15-10 pictures of dog, and include all sub-folders, I get two albums labeled dog one, and dog two.
Turns out that if you have more than one layer of sub-folder under the folder that you're syncing with, iTunes sync fails and does not create Albums. It just puts all of the photos as a big blob into the Photo Library.
Solution is to reorganize the folder like this:
    My Pictures
    ----10-03-01 Vacation
    ----10-04-15 pictures of dog
    ----10-04-15 pictures of dog one
    ----10-04-15 pictures of dog two
    ----10-04-22 pictures of kids
That way, all of the photos are still organized by year, month, day, but I've eliminated two layers of folders. Sync with iphone/ipad, and you're golden.
Hope that helps the next person fighting this problem.

  • How to include the exchange sub folder's unread mail into the "UNREAD" group in default exchange mail app in iPhone ?

I am using ios 7.0.2. I have many sub folders in my exchange mail box. Problem is when any mail comes to the sub folder, it is not counted as unread mail and it also does not be visible under the unread mail group. The unread mail group only shows the unread mails which have come directly to inbox but not the mails which comes to the sub folder according to the set rule. Have any one noticed this ridiculous thing? Is there any solution or it's a bug??

I have the same problem. On the IPad and IPhone I can easilly connect to our Exchange server. When setting up a MacBook Air, using the same settings (account/server address etc) it doesn't work...
Does anyone have a solution for this?
    Thanks!

  • Push Sub-Folders in Exchange 2007 on iPad

I have a WiFi 32Gb iPad. I have successfully set up Exchange and the Inbox pushes mail perfectly when connected. The problem is that one has to touch a sub-folders for that sub-folder to get mail. This was a problem on the iPhone which apple resolved and I know under mail settings on the iPhone they have a select folders to push mail to option but it does not appear to be on the mail settings in the iPad. Am I missing where this option is on the iPad as I would be surprised if Apple had fixed the problem for the iPhone to make the same mistake on the iPad again !

I just resolved for me. When creating a new email account, Yahoo Mail Plus (Business email) says to select "other" instead of selecting Yahoo, then they give you the pop account settings. Well, that gives you your inbox only, but no subfolders. On a whim, I tried to setup a new email account and selecting Yahoo, but entering my business email address and pw and it worked. All the folders are there. Weird. Hard to say if it's a Yahoo prob or iPad mail prob.
