Viewing file names in vlc in ipad

Hi .. I'm not sure if the topic made sense.. Here is what Im trying to do ..
Say if I'm copying bunch of episodes from a series or movies and copy to vlc via itunes, when i try to open vlc and pick any episode, it only shows me first few letters of the file. Its quite common that all the files starts with same name..(eg. Naruto_Episode or Friends_Season_ )
Is there any way to view file name and then select it accordingly ? OR is there any other software which is out there I can use for this purpose
I spent some amount of time in renaming every files before i copied them to iPad.I dont want to do that everytime ..
Any suggestions / Thoughts ?
Thanks in Advance

Completely agree!
What were the developers thinking when they hid info as basic as file name from users once imported.  Even mom/pop videos like a hockey high lights vid might have 15-20 vid clips coming in at random times and different sources.
To make users suffer with this crippled GUI just has to be one of those decisions you cynically think were made for $$$$ reasons...
ie cripple a useful cheaper tool like iMovie so users with even modest projects has to buy/learn the more expensive tool.
Thanks apple!

  • File names for photos on iPad?

How do find the file name for photos in iPhoto on the iPad?

To the best of my knowledge, you can't do it on the iPad. But after syncing, you can just click on a given photo in iPhoto and the name will appear in the "title" field in the Information box on the left-hand side of the iPhoto window.
(Make sure you have that little icon of an "i" in a circle checked in the bottom left corner next to the search bar, or you won't see the Information pane.)

  • Viewing File names of photos

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to view the file names of photos your are viewing in the photo library on an Apple Ipod Touch?? Even if it is not available in the standard photo library, is it possible to do with a 3rd party app? I want to be able to show people pictures on an Ipod touch (or similar) and, if they want a copy of a certain photo I have taken, note down the file number so that I can print it off when i get home.
Surely this must be able to be done, it's not like the filename is hidden away, it's the **** filename!! hehe

i have an app called 'ePhotoChest' which allows you to name the photos after you've imported them. slightly tedious but would work for you. someone else may know of a different app that does what you want.

  • View file names under images?

In iPhoto, the titles of all imported images were set to the file names and it was therefore possible to have the file names displayed under every image.
In Photos, titles can be viewed by selecting View > Metadata > Titles, but all titles are empty on newly imported images. There seems to be an option to view the file name as a separate field, by selecting View > Metadata > Referenced file. However, this option does nothing. But when I search for a file name, the correct images show up, so Photos obviously keeps track of the file names somehow.
So, how can I view the file names under every image, or import the file names into the titles?

    OK, thanks.
I dug around a little and this definitely seems to be a bug in how the iPhoto library is converted to a Photos library. iPhoto didn't just display file names under the images. Rather, on import, iPhoto actually sets the image titles to the file names minus the file extensions (e.g. ".jpg"). But those titles, as well as the titles manually set in iPhoto, are not imported properly into the Photos library.
I located the Photos library database. It's in the library package > Database > apdb > Library.apdb. The file is in SQLite format and can be browsed and edited with e.g. "sqlitebrowser" (http://sqlitebrowser.org/).* In it, I found that there is a table called RKMaster, that holds information about all original images. RKMaster has an attribute called "name" that contains all the original image titles. This is not the same as the file name, which is a separate "fileName" attribute in the same table, which in my case contains the same information as the "name" attribute, but with file extensions.
Then there is another table, RKVersion. This table contains information about the different versions of all images and this information is the one actually being displayed when you use the application. RKVersion has attributes for "name" and "fileName" as well. In my Photos library, "name" is empty for all my newly imported images, but "fileName" has all the correct file names with file extensions. If I edit the database and insert something in the "name" attribute for an image, the name is then displayed as an image title in Photos.
I then opened the library file from my old iPhoto library and it has a similar structure. In its RKVersion table, all the "name" attributes are filled out and they contain all the image titles I want to see. So I can conclude that during the conversion from iPhoto to Photos, the "name" attributes were simply not copied over, and that is why all my images now lack titles.
I will try to find a way to copy this whole column from the iPhoto library into the Photos library, which should solve the problem.
    * Please be aware that editing this file may cause irreversible damage to the library. Make sure there is a backup of the whole library before digging into these files.

  • How can i view files I have downloaded on iPad

As a result of another post here yesterday I installed a couple of alternative browsers to help me in the task of downloading and viewing them, but I ticked the correct answer box to hastily as I am still stuck, I need to get these PDF files into iBooks, so please how do I do that ?

Gee pal that is good of you to say that. Would it help if I said I was nearly 65 and my ability to grasp stuff is struggling here and there, perhaps not the best time in life to stray from Windose but I haven't regretted a minute of it, once I go over the shock of the expense, it has been worth every penny. And then of course I have also found one of the most helpful forums ever. With mac forums coming a close second, I use this forum when the stuff I am struggling with Are not pure Apple hardware/software related.

  • How can I change a video file name on the ipad only?

I'm filming videos on an SD card and then downloading them onto my ipad. I need to change the File names from generic to personal names for email purpose. Is there a way to change the file name only on the ipad? Maybe a specific App or something? Im trying not to use iTunes on the main PC. Thank You

Click the gear button on the clip and select Cropping & Rotation.
There are rotation buttons at the top of the viewer.

  • Photos don't show up in file name order

Photos don't show up in file name order on the iPad. Is there a way to do it?

Apparently from reading other forum posts Apple iPad sorts photos by the date stamp.
Clearly this is not suitable or feasable for people with large photo collections. Currently only people with Apple OS (iPhoto can create a sort order).. The rest of us with Windows based systems are left high & dry.
Does anyone know how to report a bug / problem to Apple ? They have no way of contacting them via email.
They need to have the sorting option in iTunes or within the iPad software itself... ie. Allow sorting by file name, etc.

  • Do I need to have iWork on my iOS device in order to view files that are stored in iCloud Drive?

I was hoping that iCloud Drive would allow us to view files on our iPhones or iPads without having Pages, Numbers, or even Word, Excel, etc... When I did the update to iOS 8 I found that there was no separate app for iCloud Drive, thus no way to simply view files stored on iCloud Drive.  I understand not being able to edit the files without having iWork or Office programs installed.  Does anyone know if we will have this capability or if I'm just missing it?  If this option isn't going to be provided to us, I'll be forced to continue to use Dropbox to view files on iOS devices (even though we can't view iWork files on iOS Dropbox anymore...)

To elaborate on my question, this is what I was expecting.  The iPad and iPhone in this picture looks as though there is a place on iOS where you can see all of the files that are located in iCloud Drive.  You can also see that each file has an associated tag (the colored dots) which we were able to start using on Mavericks.  I understand that the Mac you see in the picture has iCloud Drive as a native(ish) drive on the computer which will be available with Yosemite, but I don't understand where on the iPhone/iPad these shots were taken from, assuming it's iOS 8.0
On the up side, I just received my iPhone 6 today to find that iPhone6 and 6+ users are given Pages, Numbers, and Keynote free for their iOS devices.

  • Do file names matter to you?

    -
iMovie'08 does not show the names (titles) of video clips. Some experts are of the opinion that we don't need them because we can scrub through clips to see what's on them. Whaaaat??? In EVERY other application when you access video clips you see their titles. Apple obviously understands the value of searching for a name instead of trying to remember from a thumbnail what the clip is about.
Without names I am really working at a disadvantage in iMovie. I think it is a BIG deal. Does anybody else share my frustration?

I don't, but that is beside the point. You also left out a third group who are most interested in seeing the Date/Time stamp for the video reather than a file title. So, while you currently cannot see the file names as an option, you can turn on the "Playhead Info" option and see when a clip was "filmed" or the date a file was imported into the "Event." Agree, it might be nice to have a "Playhead Info" option to selectively view file name, its resource, or the date/Time stamp.

how can I view information about an image, such as the file name and exposure,  on the Ipad?

You can't with the built-in Photos app, but there are apps such as iPhoto which allow you to see the exposure details (aperture, shutter speed, focal length, ISO). PhotoMeta also shows you that info

  • File names on ipad

Having imported photos into an ipad, they do not come in alphabetically as they are on my Imac.
I cannot see the file names the photos have.
Admitedly I have one of the first Ipasds out but thew O/s is 5.1.1
I purchased the PhotoMgr Pro app in the hope this would solve things but it seems to give the photo a totally different name.
I am considering buying a new Ipad in the hope that I sall be ablew to view my photos in the name order as I can on my Imac, but I don't think this will be the case.
At least by buting a new Ip;ad I ought to be able to purchase other sortware.
Any suggestions on this would be appreciated.
    Cheers

What are you selecting on the Photos tab in iTunes for syncing to the Photos app ? If you are selecting the photo's folder in the Photos tab on your Mac's iTunes and syncing that folder then they will be copied over in 'date modified' order. If you have iPhoto or Aperture installed on your Mac (and have the photos in the order that you want them in albums in that) then you should be able to select and sync those album e.g. on the Photos tab for syncing :
For Photo Manager Pro you need to sync copy them directly to the app via the File Sharing section on the Apps tab on your Mac's iTunes - when you sync photos to the Photos app they are 'optimised' and renamed, so you need to go straight from your Mac to the Photo Manager Pro to maintain their filenames.

PDF file names changed with iOS 8

    Further to above
    Progress Notable!
But before I outline the details, I wish to apologise to APPLE for laying the blame at their doorstep for loosing or misplacing those PDFs I have on the iPad 1, when I set up my iPad Air , by restoring from the backup of iPad 1, thus copying all data from the old to the new.
NOT REALLY THEIR FAULT AT ALL
Because a lot of the many PDFs had the same name, ie PDF.pdf, probably my fault more than anybody else's, so I can't blame APPLE for that. Just goes to show one should be a little more precise in creating these portable documents.
No wonder the poor program " lost its' marbles" when doing the updating and conversion/transfer.
However, I was able to recover most of them by personal email, and extracting and RENAMING the PDFs as I located them in their new home.
Those PDFs that we're locked an thus not email-able , I will deal with by
    Viewing
Photoeing (if that's how you spell it).
And re-building the PDF from the photos, in unlocked format, after transferring these files either by Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, from the old to the new iPad.
So all is not lost, and I am thankful that my cautious approach to this matter in the first place, gave me the ability for this successful recovery.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I hope this little story of my saga/experience may prove helpful to others yet to cross the chasm of updating.
    Regards to all, including APPLE.
    NICE STUFF YOU MAKE.

  • How do I view imported pictures in file name order?

I have an extensive picture library on my NAS which I would like to see on my iPad and/or AppleTV. I have made folders available for viewing and I've also imported some actual JPEG files to the iPad using iTunes. Try as I might, I cannot get these files to display in file name order (they are all named by date and time). Is there a way?

Not using the built in photos app. You'll need to search for a third party app. I'm afraid I don't have any to recommend because I've never looked for any, but the default for the built in app is to sort by date/event.

  • File Names and Ratings not showing in browser or viewer

I seem to have a bug where Aperture sometimes fails to show the file names or their rating.
This happens in both Browser & viewer modes. Just the blank background.
I can see the name in the Metadata tab, but not underneath the files.
    Any ideas

I'm having a similar problem. The U key is active and the photo name (referenced from Finder) shows up. But I can't get the ratings to show up. From what the instruction manual says, I should see the stars in the lower LH corner, but I don't see anything. I've looked to see if there is a way to make them show or hide, but haven't found it.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Sue

  • File name not showing in grid view

I just upgraded to LR 5.4 and I noticed that now when I am in grid view, only the capture date and dimensions show on the image when I run my cursor over it. I used to get a quick pop-up with the file name, capture date & dimensions, so I can quickly see where I am in my numbering system. I have looked at the preferences and also in view, but it is not apparent to me where it went, plus I know I didn't change anything, intentionally.
BTW, I also upgraded to Mavericks OS on my iMac, but I hope that is not what is wrong. I know Adobe put out a bunch of "patches" for Bridge, etc. but I have already downloaded and updated all that.

When you are in Library module/Grid mode, the text that appears in the hovering action is controlled by the Info Overlay. The Info Overlay has three states: Off, Info 1 and Info 2.
Go to View>Loupe Overlay and put a check mark next to the Overlay you wish to be active and your hovering enabled text will change to match that text.
