Viewing Folder/File sizes in list view

Anyone know of a good app to preview folder/file sizes across the entire HD?
Since I transitioned to a MBP I suffer from juggling my data from HD to external FW drives, especially when I return from traveling or I leave to travel some more. So I find myself in the time-consuming process of hitting "Get Info" on a few hundred folders to find where the data-heavy files exist on my HD, so then I can move them off to FW drive to get more HD space. I practice good file management but even still podcast downloads or project files from my students, colleagues, etc. can get out of control. I can narrow down the sources to Movies, Pictures, etc. and the Applications support files in my Library but would much rather be able to view the folder sizes in one list and locate the heavy files much faster. Maybe there is an Automater workflow? Or I just haven't been able to find the preference in the viewer so that I can see folder sizes, not just the "--" under the size column. I haven't been able to figure it out.
Thanks for your help.

  • How do you purge/compress/shrink the iPhoto11 folder/file size?

    How do you purge/compress/shrink the iPhoto11 folder/file size?
    I have been using iPhoto since iLife'05 and have always upgraded with each iteration of iLife. Without exception, I had just recently upgraded to iPhoto'11 when iLife'11 came out. Because I have used iPhoto to store all my photos and videos taken over the last 5 years or so, my iPhoto folder/file has become bigger and bigger over time and so I moved it to an external hard-drive. My main iPhoto'11 folder/file has 14,367 photos, 995 videos and is indicated to be 83 GB by iPhoto'11. But "Get Info" in Finder reports a whopping 130 GB.
    I started to think that this is getting a little crazy and I had wanted to better manage my photo collection, so I decided to "divide and conquer" this gigantic iPhoto'11 folder/file into several smaller, more manageable sized ones. So I made a duplicate copy of this gigantic iPhoto'11 folder/file onto another external hard-drive, fire-up iPhoto'11 again to delete away almost 80% of the photos and 90% of the videos. Now, my "slimmed-down" iPhoto folder/file has 3,000 photos, 75 videos and is indicated to be 6.8 GB by iPhoto'11. But despite the new "slimmed-down" status, the "Get Info" in Finder reports a still very huge 44 GB. Where did all those bulk come from? I have emptied both the iPhoto'11 Trash Can and Mac OS X Trash Can and these steps did not seemed to change anything at all.
    Therefore, I wanted to see what the "Get Info" in Finder will report if I were to delete 99.99% of the photos and video to leave just one (1) photo in iPhoto'11? Guess what is the result? My "One Photo experimental" iPhoto folder/file has 1 photo, 0 videos and is indicated to be 2 MB by iPhoto'11 yet the "Get Info" in Finder reports a mysterious 36.3 GB. There must be something hiding inside!
    Help! What can I do?

    I went on to try trashing away some of the folders and files inside and found that I could actually do it quite neatly if I go by the year which the photos are taken. After a lot of trial and error working on duplicate copy of my iPhoto '11 library, I am able to do away with all the clutter within the library and still open it normally.
    Now my 44GB obese iPhoto'11 library has been slimmed down to just a little over 7 GB (5 GB as reported by iPhoto'11) and I am just comfortable dealing with 2 GB of "don't-know-what-info" of clutter within the library.
    Remember my "One Photo Experimental" iPhoto'11 library that was 36.3 GB? I managed to bring it down to the realistic 22 MB size. This size is still double that of a brand new iPhoto'11 library I created to import 1 photo. However, it sure beat having 36.3 GB of clutter.
    So, now what I am gonna do is to "divide and conquer" the duplicate copies of my iPhoto'11 library into smaller sized ones according to their year. But I think I'll still keep the original bloated, gigantic 130 GB intact and continue to feed it with photos and videos until maybe it becomes 1 TB! Yikes!
    Anyway, million thanks for your tip and I really appreciate it! Have a Happy holidays!

  • Report Viewer - SSRS settings/parameters and List Viewer

    Hello
    I have 2 questions. Using SharePoint 2010, data are stored in SQL 2012
    1. SSRS Report Viewer - is there a way to display parameter panel with the question on the top of the web part or left side (it shows on the right side)? Can't seem to find that setting, but seen some samples of the reports that show parameters drop
    down on top of the Viewer.
    2. Using List View Web part to display the items from the external content (sql), but can't seem to find a way to select the record without going into details for this record. In other words - I'd like to display a table with few records, have an ability
    to select the record and pass the ID as a parameter to the report, but also give a user ability to view details of each record. Is there a way to add the radio button or something like that next to each record?
    Thank you!

    Hello,
    This is the answer for 1. This is the way I did it. So, use content editor webpart. Add this script to the webpart. Script shows a label and a dropdown list and attach a javascript function to onchange event of dropdown list. Onchange event creates the dynamic
    report url and open that report url in new browser window.
    <span>Report parameter one : </span>
    <select onchange="loadreport(this.selectedIndex); id="cars">
    <option value="volvo">Volvo</option>
    <option value="saab">Saab</option>
    <option value="mercedes">Mercedes</option>
    <option value="audi">Audi</option>
    </select>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function loadreport(index) {
    var ddcars = document.getElementById("cars");
    var carname = ddcars.options[index].value;
    var rpt = "http://yourserver.com/MA/SIP/_layouts/ReportServer/RSViewerPage.aspx?rv:RelativeReportUrl=/MA/SIP/SC_Reports/Location_Reports/YourReportName.rdl&DefaultItemOpen=1&rv:HeaderArea=None&rv:DocMapMode=Collapsed&rv:toolbaritemsdisplaymode=152&rp:CarName=" + carname + "&rv:ParamMode=Collapsed" ;
    window.open(rpt);
    </script>
    Hope this can help!

  • Wrong Dates and Sizes in List View in Finder (10.3.9)

    Hi,
    I'm in the Finder (Mac OS X 10.3.9) looking at a folder.
    The folder is in List View mode.
    Here's the problem:
    Files that I edited yesterday are continuing to show up as modified "Today."
    What's with that?
    The Finder window won't update. (And I modified those files 12 hours ago.)
    This has been going on for years.
    Sometimes clicking on each file will trigger an update of the info, sometimes not.
    Sometimes the dates are wrong, sometimes the sizes are wrong.
    Is there a cure for this Mac OS bug?

  • Can't select file names in list view

    System: Mac Pro 2.93 Quad-Core, 6GB RAM, 10.6.2
    I updated from 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 using software update AND from 10.6 to 10.6.2 doing a clean install. Both times I had problems with the finder: first, the icons in the sidebar turned into "page" icons (a white rectangle similar to the Documents icon, but one sheet instead of "two"), then I couldn't select the file names (to change the name of a file) in list view. Strangely I could do so in icon view or using Get Info. I trashed the com.apple.finder.plist file, and now every window has it's own set of values (different icon sizes and sorting prefs.) and I can't seem to make all windows default to a set of view/sort values (every time I open a window they change even after I selected "use values as defaults").
    I'm stumped any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Also, if the finder is "acting-up," does that mean that copying files, doing backups and the like, are all compromised? (This would be really upsetting).
    Thanks

    Have a bootable backup/clone of your previous 10.6.1 installation or a TM backup?

  • Added views = added file size

    Hello,
    A general comment and a quick question:
    Comment:
    I am working on my 1st 3D PDF; I exported a .3ds file from 3DS Max @ 4.5 mb., imported into Adobe Acrobat 3D with a Mesh Quality and Texture Quality both reduced to 80%, saved my file as pdf file @ 1.4 mb (really awesome). I then added 12 views, hiding various parts, saved my file which increased the file size to 6.8 mb = 450 kb per view.
    I opened up PDF Optimizer>Clean Up>Compress entire file, saved my file, which dropped the file size down to 1.92 mb(super, very happy).
    Question:
    In the hopes of getting my file fize even smaller, is there a general rule of thumb when working with .3ds files in Acrobat 3D;like... the best file compression routine/settings/procedure to use when compressing .3ds files embedded in pdfs? Is there documentation based around general compression and best practices for compression for different file types when exporting from the native 3d programs, importing to Acrobat 3D and saving as .pdfs? I can't imagine making my file too much smaller, but one can always hope.
    Thanks,
    ~Chipley

    Hey Chipley,
    Given that the .3ds format does not give you access to Acrobat 3D's PRC conversion format, I think you're on the right track with reducing Mesh and Texture Quality. Those two areas tend to make up a lot you file size. I think the only way to really do this with a .3ds file type is to possibly reduce the Texture quality a little more. The use of the PDF Optimizer was a great idea. It would be hard to give you better idea than the approach you're already taking.

  • How to increase the font size in list view

    I have Aperture open in list view and even tho I have the slider all the way to the right, so the images are larger to see, the actual font size of the various topics in list view has not increased.  I have trouble seeing and need the font size to be made larger.  Within Aperture = don't want to do the change to the whole computer, just to the list view in Aperture.  Thanks.

    Aperture does not support to increase the font size.  If you do not want to reduce the resolution of the display to make the fonts larger, you could enable Accessibility and activate a local Zoom.
    This way you can zoom in on text, but your images will show in the best possible resolution.
    The Accessibility options are activated from the System Preferences > Accessibility.
    You can toggle zooming using ⌥⌘8,    zoom in using ⌥⌘=, zoom out using ⌥⌘-  .

  • Viewing combined file sizes?

    I'm new to the Mac, having come to it in the last couple of weeks from many many years of PC use.
    I have a question about Finder:
    In Windows Explorer, if you select a few files, the status bar at the bottom of the Explorer screen would tell you what the combined file size is of any files selected. I cannot seem to find a similar thing in Finder, is there a quick and easy way to do it?

    You can press Command-Option-I for the File Inspector, and leave it open. It will go away when you aren't using the finder, but will reappear whenever you go to the Finder, and will show the total size of any selected files.

  • Turning a 'code view' only file to a 'design view' file

    Thanks for reading.
    I am using Dreamweaver 8. I have INC files that I would to be
    able to edit in design view as opposed to strictly code view. (lots
    of tables and I'd rather just visually edit the cells) I can view
    them in the PHP files they are called from (which is a start) but I
    need to be able to edit just the INC file in design view; not view
    it in the PHP file and then open the INC file in code view.
    I have gone through the help file and done the following
    (restarting dreamweaver each time):
    1) removed INC from the list at dreamweaver >>
    Preferences >> FileTypes / Editors >> Open in Code View
    2) checked to make sure the INC extention is in the
    extension.txt file (it is by default) I've tried moving it to be an
    html file, leaving it as a server sife include, and creating a new
    'include file' distinction for it. None of it works.
    3) Going through the rest of the documentation isn't terribly
    helpful. It mentions files and folders I can not find. Most of the
    decent documentation I can find is for MX; but the files it points
    me to don't seem exist in my installation.
    I'm sure this is a really easy problem with a simple
    solution; but I am overlooking it. Do I need to find more folders
    from my installation? Do I create these folders manually as I need
    them? What files go in them? Getting this figured out so I can make
    edits to INC files in design view would help me out tremendously.
    Thanks for any help.

    Save them as *.html rather than *.inc files....

  • How to open form in another form view when click image in list view?

    Hi All,
    I have created list view where "Picture" is one of the column. If you click Picture column it will open its item. I achieve using this
    resource.
    Actually that list form has been customized by InfoPath and create two views.
    Now, when i click that Picture column in that list view, it should open in another view instead of default view. How to achieve this?
    Here is my code:
    // List View – Field open modal dialog Sample
    (function () {
    // Create object that have the context information about the field that we want to change it output render
    var pictureFiledContext = {};
    pictureFiledContext.Templates = {};
    pictureFiledContext.Templates.Fields = {
    //"Picture" is the column name.
    "Picture": { "View": pictureFiledTemplate }
    SPClientTemplates.TemplateManager.RegisterTemplateOverrides(pictureFiledContext);
    function pictureFiledTemplate(ctx) {
    var url= ctx.CurrentItem[ctx.CurrentFieldSchema.Name];
    var itemID=ctx.CurrentItem.ID;
    var itemTitle=ctx.CurrentItem.Title;
    return "<img alt='"+url+"' src='"+url+"' complete='complete' onclick=\"openModalDialog('EditForm.aspx?ID="+itemID+"','"+itemTitle+"')\" />";
    function openModalDialog(url,title)
    var options = {
    title: "Item-"+title,
    width: 600,
    height: 600,
    url: url
    SP.UI.ModalDialog.showModalDialog(options);
    return false;

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you customized the list form, and created two list view.
    I had created two list view, named view1 and view2, and customized the list form using the InfoPath.
    Then replaced the code onclick=\"openModalDialog('EditForm.aspx?ID="+itemID+"','"+itemTitle+"')\"
    with
    onclick=\"openModalDialog('view2.aspx?ID="+itemID+"','"+itemTitle+"')\".
    Afther that, edit the view1 page, Edit the list web part. Go to Miscellaneous -> JS Link, add the following URL into the JS Link textbox.
    ~site/Shared Documents/PictureFieldTemplate.js
    Now when you click the image, it would open the view2 page.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • SharePoint 2013 Online : Custom List view xslt webpart UI vs List View WebPart UI with search ? How to create a xslt list view webpart same UI as list View webpart ???

    I have created a xslt list view webpart but I does not have UI as SharePoint 2013 list view UI.
    how I can have it.
    Ahsan Ranjha

    Hi Ahsan,
    According to your description, my understanding is that the UI is different between XSLT web part and List View web part.
    Per my knowledge, the List View web part is a kind of the XSLT list view web part which uses XSLT to display data on the page.
    http://sharepoint-videos.com/list-view-and-data-view-web-parts/
    How did you add the XSLT web part and the List View web part?
    Could you please provide a screenshot of the two web parts?
    Best regards.
