Viewing full res. images on iPhone

I just switched back to the Apple camp by moving from the Samsung S4 to the new iPhone 6.
I'm having a minor annoyance with iTunes automatically resizing my full resolution images before uploading it into the phone. Is there any photo viewing app that will hold onto the full resolution preferably with the image filename and metadata intact like the default photo viewer on Android?
Photos show incredible detail on the S4 but 'mehhh' on the iPhone 6 due to the auto-resize to 2302x1536 for a 3x2 aspect ratio image.

You may want to create a Facebook account, Flickr account, or any other photo account that there is an App for on the iPhone.
This may allow you to then upload your photos to their servers. View it on the App at a much higher quality.
Again not totally sure on this. But it might be something you can try out. Maybe our fellow posters have other suggestions.

  • View high res images on iPhone?

I'd like to view high res images of subway maps on my iPhone as I used to on my BlackBerry. However, iTunes seems to pare down the resolution when syncing them, making them useless. Suggestions?

  • How to import full res photo onto iphone

Hey guys, this may sound silly but how do I import photos taken from my dslr onto my iphone 5 at full res? Right now they're blurry when I zoom i

You're right. The images I uploaded from iPhoto were originally, approximately, 1 Mb each. When they were uploaded to the web, via iWeb publishing, they are all 60Kb - a significant drop in file size.
To answer your query, specifically, if you want friends/family to have access to high res images, then photocast an album with the pictures you want to share.

  • In Elements 12 Organizer, View Full Screen images are not loading.  Have already tried disc cleanup.

It was working a couple of days ago, now when I select several images to view full screen, the page comes up, but the images don't.  I have a PC, and have already tried doing a disc cleanup and defragmentation.

    I’ve found a work-round.
This is embarrassing (for Adobe), as the work-round is to set the CPU affinity to single cpu mode. With that PSE 10 has been running in slide show mode for 3 hours now.  Looking good!
On a temporary basis, from the task manager, show the ‘processes’ tab, right click on the PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe *32 process, choose ‘Set Affinity …’ unselect ‘All’ and select (check) any one CPU.  (Under W7 32 bit I guess you won’t get the *32)
For a more permanent fix, using the start command with the affinity option is needed.  This is not compatible with the PSE 10 launcher though, if you use the launcher you will need to set the affinity as shown above.
To use the start command, from a command prompt type start /? for the syntax..
Try a google search of  “how to set the processor affinity” for further advice.
Now, should Adobe be reading this thread I have some advice for them:
“It is NOT POSSIBLE to conduct a reliability test of a program using a virtualized environment”.
I made the error of assuming that after the PSE 6 fiasco in a multi-cpu environment Adobe would not make the same mistake again.  Well, they have.  Perhaps this time they will conduct a root cause analysis of what they are doing wrong with their test plans and FIX IT, because I object to doing their testing for them, again.

  • Problems with viewing full-size images on Google...

When I search in images, and click "see full-size image", sometimes the file will be downloaded to my hard drive as a JPG, and then Preview opens up to view it. This never used to happen...the image would always just show up on a new page in the browser.
Does anyone know what's going on?

It may be inherent in the site's code. Regardless, IMO the best way to view images, especially via a Google or Yahoo search is PicLens.
    Hi HS,
IIRC lots of posts about PicLens being a prob so I went there w your link.
*They say it is NOT Safari ready.* Thought I would note that for other thread readers.

  • Can't view full-sized images

I am running iPhoto ‘09 (v8.1.1) on MacOS 10.6.2. When I double click on many of the thumbnails in my iPhoto library, rather than the image opening to full size, the screen goes black. This phenomenon seems to occur randomly. However, once it occurs, then the full size image will never appear. However, the thumbnail continues to appear in the iPhoto library.
Also, very occasionally, after double clicking on the thumbnail, the full size image appears very briefly (less than 1 second) and then displays a totally random set of pixels.
These problems occur with images from a camera as well as scanned images.
This does not seem to occur on any of my other Macs, all of which are running the same versions of iPhoto and MacOS.
The phenomena preceded my upgrading to iPhoto’09 and Snow Leopard.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

That wasn't a solution, that was a test of the Library's integrity.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the options to check and repair permissions in the Library.
    If that fails:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Upon opening a thumbnail to view full size image, it often spontaneously zooms to only display bottom left quarter of image.

When double-clicking on the thumbnail image of an iPhoto album, the full size image will often spontaneously zoom to only display the bottom left quarter of the entire photo when it displays in full size. I can easily work around this by clicking on the right arrow to go to the next full size image (which will display properly) and then click on the left arrow to go back to the initial affected image (which will also then display properly). It does not do this when full-sizing all images from their thumbnails - probably less than 10% of the time; but still often enough to be a pian. I cannot find anything in the preferences which would appear to cause or correct it.
It is a recent problem. I have been using iPhoto extensively for many years without any problems. I cannot recall for sure, but it may have started after my update to version 9.4.2.
Using an iMac with plenty of RAM, latest version of iPhoto 11 and Mountain Lion version 10.8.2.

What is the format of the PS photos and are there any alpha channels in them? You might try to re-edit them with PS, making some insignificant change and then saving.  See if the new edit will display properly.  Are you saving as jpgs with the Baseline format?
I may be preaching to the choir here but this may be of interest:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Viewing full screen images gets very slow in PSE 5&6

In full screen preview mode, when going from a horizontal image to a vertical image, it takes several seconds to go to the next image.Have tried turning off and on the resizing option and it had no effect. Viewing 2mb jpgs from a Nikon D200.Have Win XP 64, 8GB Ram, dual core processor and a middle of the road video card.
Could this be a video card issue? Would going to PSE 8 help. does PSE 8 utilize 64 bit OS?

Very interesting.  I'm guessing that the portrait photos were rotated by the camera by setting the Orientation field in the photos' metadata, and that for some reason, PSE on your system requires a lot of time to properly rotate them on the fly in Full Screen view.  When you edit the photo in the Editor, it rotates the actual image, rather than setting the Orientation field.
For a couple of test photos, try following steps 1 - 3 of this FAQ:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Photos_not_properly
This should have the same effect as editing them in the Editor.

  • How to view high-res images in iPad 3?

I'm Korean and I like reading web comics on the web. Korean web comics (or as called here "webtoons") tend to have large images, and something like 500x12000 JPEG images are not uncommon. But as you know, Safari on iOS downsamples JPEG images larger than 2 MP (or 5 MP in iOS 6) and even 5 MP is not enough in this situation.
I tried several alternative ways to view large images in my iPad.
    1. "Save Image" in Safari: it downloads the downsampled version of the image.
    2. Other browsers (Chrome, Opera Mini, Terra, Mercury, Puffin, etc.): they all downsamples as well.
    3. Copy the URL of the image, then download and view the image using GoodReader: downsampled
    4. Download the image in PC, share it using Dropbox, view it in iPad using Dropbox app: downsampled (the worst quality ever)
I haven't tried the iPhoto for iOS yet since I don't want to pay for something that I'm uncertain whether it can solve my problem or not.
The image I've tried to view on iPad is http://file.thisisgame.com/upload/board/2012/08/30/20120830093812_9274.jpg, which is about 7.6 MP. Although the dimension of the image is huge, the size of the image is only about 3.9 MB. I don't understand why this image should be downsampled to be viewed on the new iPad, considering its computing power.
I wish to know whether iPhoto can help or there is any way to view large images in my iPad at all. Thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide.

In addition to asking here, I suggest you report this issue to Apple via
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • ICloud Photo Libary Full Res Download?

I read that the high resolution originals can still be downloaded on request. How is this done on the iphone? How do I download a full res image within the iphone photos app? I currently use the Optimise storage option.

wondering about that too ... not seeing any option allowing this. Only thing I heard is that high res would be downloaded on the fly while editing. Then back to "optimized" after the syncing with iCloud.

  • Aperture and D90 - no full res files

I downloaded yesterday's update to support the D90 file format and Aperture now displays the Nefs in the main window except it thinks all my full res images are only 256*172 pixels ... ViewNX sees them correctly at 4288x2848. I am shooting NEF+basic.
Anyone has seen the same problem ?

    Hi,
Aperture doesn’t automatically apply the Raw update to the D90 NEFs already inside the Aperture library. Newly imported NEFs from the D90 should be displayed correctly at the right resolution.
To get Aperture to use the new Raw converter select all the D90 NEFs and then choose the menu File > Migrate Images.
(See page 145 in the Aperture 2 manual for a better description of what to do).

  • PSE8 Full screen view with high-res images

The Full Screen View in PSE8 doesn't seem to cope well with high-resolution images, eg from a full-frame DSLR (eg my Sony A850 with 6000 x 4000 px).
After selecting an image in Organsier and starting Full Screen View the first image is displayed successfully, but clicking the button to move to subsequent images soon results in a "cracked image" symbol.  (It's unrelated to the image though - closing FSV, selecting the suspect image and restarting FSV displays it properly).
I get the same symptoms with JPEG and RAW images, and on two Windows PCs.  One's XP with 1.5GB, the other is Windows 7 with 8GB.
I've tried maximising the RAM available to PSE8 (in Editor preferences), but it makes no difference.

Here is the solution under Windows 7 64-bit  with Photoshop Elements 6 for the new Entry "MaxImageSize":
The Registry-Entries for 32-bit-Programs are saved in
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ... Wow6432Node ...
    QWORD-32bit 42C1D8000000
    (Hex 1120000000 or Decimal 73551314944)
    for a JPG-File up to 10.000 x 10.000 Pixel

  • After upgrading to Yosemite, I had to upgrade my iPhoto, now the full res versions of my images cannot be found.

After upgrading to Yosemite, I had to upgrade my iPhoto, now the full res versions of my images cannot be found.  I had created a book to print (before upgrade) but, after the upgrade the book can't be created as I get the message that images can't be found. However, if I search for the filename I can find the image. I tried repairing library as per support instructions but it hasn't helped. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

    Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - apply Option #4, Rebuild Database.

    Hello,
Please make sure that the next button is pinned to the right side as there in the attached image.
If it is already pinned, you can try removing any embedded HTML code and checking it.

  • How to view every frame, full res, in Viewer... settings?

Hi, We use a strobe flash to sync multiple cameras on a live shoot (DV, NTSC, SD footage). Since I began using FCP and multi-cam, I can not always find the frame where the strobe pulses. Is there a way to increase the viewer settings to view every frame in full res? I would only need this to find the sync point then adjust back to normal editing settings. Thanks.

In my ongoing HDV to SD investigations, I needed a view that was 1:1, and showed both fields of interlacing, and 100% seemed to be it - I think I just happened upon it, by trial and error.
Glad to be able to share though.
Some nice 100% view screen shots on my HDV page (shameless plug again)
    http://www3.telus.net/bonsai/Step-by-Step.html scroll to the end.
While on that subject, MPEG StreamClip is the only viewer I know of that does the same thing for the playback of interlaced MPEG's, you set the window zoom to match the frame size, and you get 1:1 interlaced viewing, aspect corrected on the horizontal, not the vertical.
FCP, for the longest time, used to aspect correct on the vertical (scale the height, while keeping the width 1:1) but this is not what you want for seeing fields at 1:1. I'm glad to report FCP5 now scales the horizontal to correct aspect ratio (when view as square pixels is ticked) and keeps the vertical, and therefore the fields, at 1:1.
Quicktime, and VLC both do field blending when viewing interlaced mpeg's, so you don't see the real interlaced footage. I actually prefer to see interlacing in computer monitors, especially if it is updated, one field at a time, at 60 updated fields per second - I think MPEG Streamclip does this - it might not though - its hard to fully see, but it looks smoother than the canvas / viewer playback, which is 30 frames per second.
