Viewing home shared video?

Should I be able to view video from my iTunes library on a Home Sharing activated iPad? I made a playlist of some TV Shows. The Playlist title is viewable on the iPad when I choose my main computer library. But when I select a video I eventually get booted out of iPod and back to the home screen.
The videos are not stored in the main iTunes Music folder. I chose to have them remain in their original folder after dragging them into the iTunes list. I can view them easily inside iTunes and on ATV2.

Nope.

  • How can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

how can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

That's exactly what I meant, but for some reason Home Sharing stopped working on my iPad2 once I activated iTunes Match.
Since then, I waited for iTunes Match to finish setting up and scanning my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro and I restarted my iPad2. Both Home Sharing and iTunes Match are now up and running smoothly!
    Thanks for the reply!

  • Screen ipad doesn't respond during video viewing home sharing with multiple iOS devices simultaneously

A have a problem with the videos app and iTunes home sharing on multiple iOS devices.
This is my setup. On my iMac 2006 with Snow Leopard I have:
    - 100+ dvd's ripped in my iTunes movie section
    - 600+ episodes ripped in iTunes TV-section in 35 TV-shows
    - 1 apple tv, 1 iPad 2, 1 iPad mini
On an average evening my family is watching different tv-shows simultaneously on the apple tv, the ipad, an iphone, and an ipad mini.
This is done through home sharing on the one iTunes library.
    All updated apps, software etc..
What happens on the ipads, after viewing for more than 10 minutes, the user interface doesn't show up when tapping the screen. The touchscreen doesn't respond, only the home button works. Clicking the home button closes the app, but the sound of the video keeps on playing. Opening up the videos app again gives a black screen with sound still playing and still no button or UI.
The only workaround which currently works is killing the videos app. Power off the ipad and power on again, reconnect to the shared library, wait until it has found all the content (1+ minutes) and startup the tv show again.
All in all, a nasty way to pause your viewing or switching to another movie of tv episode, or even wanting to finish viewing.
The problem has haunted me for a year now, patiently waiting and hoping software-updates would fix it. They didn't.
A fix would obviously hugely improve my user experience, getting it on par with Apples usual quality of service.
Anyone familiar with this problem? Apple: is it possible to fix it in an update?

Same here for over a year now.
You cant imagine how happy i am that im not the only one with this problem.
many of frinds have the same setup as me (ipad 2, 27"imac, express, apple tv 2)
    No problem
I had the problem on Snow Leopard, lion and now on mountain lion.
I'am also starting to get a new problem - sometimes when waching a movie on iPad or ATV it just quits the movie and you have to start it again
on the iPad most of the time it also shows the wrong cover art. I tried all the hints here, and i works for a day or two then its wrong again
I store my itunes library on an external drive - you ???

  • IPhone 4S (iOS 6) + Desktop PC (iTunes 11) + Home Sharing Videos

Last night I turned on Home Sharing on my desktop (PC), iPhone 4S and first-generation iPad.  Started watching on my iPhone TV show episodes saved on my desktop...well, for a couple of minutes I did.  The iPhone suddenly terminated my viewing and kicked me out of the Videos environment.  I selected the Videos icon again and no longer found the "Shared" option there.  I also noted that the same environment gave me a new error message saying something like "The iTunes Store Cannot be Accessed," even though it appeared that I could still access the iTunes Store.  I noted that, when selecting the iPhone Music icon, I was still able to access a Shared link and view (and play) music on my desktop.  I tried rebooting both iPhone and desktop.  I tried signing out and signing back in with my Apple ID on both machines.  I tried turning Home Sharing off and back on.  In fact I tried just about everything that I could think of shy of the involved uninstall of the PC's iTunes, loading an older version, etc., such as I have seen attempted by others encountering similar problems.  I thought I'd first write to this forum before getting into anything more involved and time-consuming.  Hopefully one or more of you out there can confirm what the likely best approach to this issue would be.  Boiled down to a single question:  "Why am I still able to access shared music but not videos on my iPhone 4S?"

  • Home Sharing Videos Mark As Watched

Greetings! I recently purchased an iPhone 4S and an enjoying the Home Sharing features, but I have noticed some issues noted in other discussions, namely the dropped connection with the AppleTV 2.  I have also noticed issue with the Home Sharing dropping on my 4S, especially in the middle of the night as I play music through my Home Share on my iDevice.
I wanted to direct this discussion to something I think is related but admittedly may just be more of an annoyance to me.  I can bring up my Movies and TV Shows on my 4S through Home Sharing just fine, and can watch both without issue.  I have noticed that if I start watching a show over my ATV2 and stop it halfway, I can later find it marked as such on my 4S with the blue half moon dot.  However, if I complete the program on my 4S, the dot for the show or movie doesn't clear like it does in iTunes, but rather resets as if I've never watched it.  I've tinkered with the iTunes settings, using other discussions as guides; I can get the play counts to register when I play something over my 4S, but can't get the dot to clear to Mark As Watched.
Again, this may just be an annoyance limited to me, and I admit I'm rather meticulous about how I maintain my iTunes library.  I like to see shows and movies I've watched marked as such.  I'm also looking at purchasing an iPad in the near future; curious if any iPad users notice the same issue.  I suspect it may be related (in a minor way) to the other Home Sharing issues that have arisen from the latest updates.  Any help would be appreciated!

  • Since I moved ITunes media folder to an external bkp unit upload of my home shared videos on Apple TV is very slow. Is there anything I can do?

Since I moved ITunes media folder to an external bkp unit, Apple Tv uploads my shared videos very slowly. Is there anything I can do?

USB 3 should be more than enough for what you want.
I don't know anything about Pinnacle but iMovie (assuming you are going default) does produce movies with a datarate of around 10 Mbps, which is quite high in comparison to iTunes movies from the iTunes Store. I don't know if you might want to try custom exports.
Although saying that I have plenty of movies at around 10 Mbps on my eSATA external which doesn't have any problems.

  • How to setup multiple Apple ID's on Apple TV home sharing?

I have an Apple TV and a Mac with mavericks.. My roommate also has a Mac. We both want to be able to access our home sharing videos on the Apple TV. I figured out how to have multiple accounts for iTunes (rentals etc) but can't seem to do it with home sharing? Anyone out there know if it is possible? I don't like to use mirroring because it can be slow when watching movies.
    Thanks!

Thanks for your help! I don't mind switching between them.. How do I authorize both on the home sharing ID? When my roommate goes to "computers" it tells her to turn on home sharing on my computer (with my ID).. Even if I changed the iTunes account over to hers..
    Thanks again!

  • After updating to iTunes 11.1 how to get home sharing to work on Apple TV?

Updated iTunes to 11.1.  Can view home shared iMac computer on one of my Apple TV's but not the other Apple TV.  Did Apple TV reset, restore, re-installed iTunes 11.1 on my iMac, checked network (it tested fine), but still cannot get my iTunes library to show up on one of my Apple TV's (it shows up fine on my other Apple TV).  Any suggestions?

people who keep their routers default name and live in populated areas can easily connect by mistake to another open network if the router have the same ssid

  • Bad quality after sharing video

The quality of my video is very bad after sharing it (I have saved the project as MPEG2 file)
Especially the darker parts of the video are bad, in the preview screen in adobe premiere elements 7 I can see the faces of all people in these parts, while I can only see very dark faces after sharing. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
    Thanks!

I have a DV camcorder and I used a firewire cable to get it into my computer. In the assets I read DV PAL 25.00 frames/sec , don't know what information I need to give you?
I tried to share it as MPEG2-NTSC standard, and MPEG2-PAL standard.
(I view the shared video on the same computer)
Hope you can help me (sorry, am not really into video editing yet so I don't know so much about it).

  • IPad times out when trying to play shared video (solution)

Problem description: This problem has plagued me for months.  I have a series of home videos and purchased movies on my Mac that I had home shared with my other Apple devices using iTunes 11.  Sometimes everything would work smoothly, but some other times one or more devices would refuse to play videos.  Over the last few days, both my iPads had refused to play any home shared videos ("The request timed out." would pop after a long wait).  On the other hand, my Apple TV and iPhone would play these nicely.  Also, all music shared via home sharing would play on all devices.
Cause identified: I am using a BELKIN Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router.  I had it set up with the same SSID for both the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz bands in the hope that my streaming devices would automatically choose the highest performing configuration.  It turns out they did not.  While troubleshooting the time out issue, I configured the two wireless bands with separate SSID's which allowed me to observe that both iPads had trouble using the 5 GHz band (N mode only).  I could not even get them to validate the pre-shared keys on this band.  When switching all devices to the 2.4 GHz band (B+G+N mode), boom! everything started working nicely!  The iPads seem to have an issue with the N WiFi mode on the 5 GHz band.
Solution: If using a dual band wireless router, try each band separately with unique SSID's/pre-shared keys.  Choose the best performing one, and make sure your devices "forget" any wireless configuration that seems to be causing trouble so they won't later on decide to switch back to them.

You need to set the band on the wireless router.  Depending on your router model, do that either from your browser, or using the software that came on a CD-ROM.
To use your browser, you need to enter the router's IP address, usually http://192.168.2.1/.   This may me different for different router manufacturers.  Check the WiFi settings once you are able to log on.  The browser-based interface may require an admin password.  In most cases the default password is blank, but, again, different manufacturers use different defaults.  It is best to use a computer that is hard wired to the router using an ethernet cable.  That way the wireless changes will not affect your connection to the router.
Once the band is set in the router, your iPad or AppleTV should be able to detect your wireless network.  Once you change the band, the devices may ask you for your wireless password again.

  • ITunes Home Sharing for video on iPad with different account

My husband has a separate iTunes account from mine, however I run our media servers at home where I have a library of movies running through iTunes which we view via Apple TV and other devices.
He has his iPad set to - Settings/Videos/HomeSharing/His-Apple_ID
The question is - if I CHANGE THIS to - Settings/Videos/HomeSharing/MY-Apple_ID
(so he can view my iTunes library)
Does this mess up his usage/connection to his iTunes account - in any other area of the iPad?
In other words - can the Home Sharing Apple ID be different than one's personal Apple ID on an iPad for purposes of viewing?
It would actually be nice if we were allowed to keep multiple accounts to connect to for this for moving to different locations and sharing...

    Hi there,

    A happy ending?
    Here's what I did.
    On the Mac Mini.....
As a safe guard I duplicated the Preference folder in my user library and moved it to the desktop. Then from the original Preferences Folder I moved all the com.apple.xxx plists to the trash and restarted.
    No fix
I then moved the rest of the contents of the Preference Folder (the system won't allow trashing the actual folder) to the trash and restarted.
Following that I set up Home Sharing again on both the iMac and the Mac Mini and BINGO.
It must have been a non apple preference of some sort causing the odd behaviour. Who knows which or what.
Note that I did not have to move or get rid of any preferences on the iMac!
Now to try to get the Mac Mini (preferences) back to looking and acting as I want - a reasonably big job but probably worth the effort in the end.

Where are you looking on your iPad for the shows?  In iTunes?  If so, look under Videos.
