Viewing image at "print size" and interpolation

Does Aperture interpolate my image as it is prepared to be printed? For instance if I were to want to print an image at 20x30 would the image be interpolated (much as done in Photoshop) to fit that size. If so, how do I view the interpolated and resized image prior to printing. Also there is the issue of sharpening after resizing.

Well, there are a couple of problems here. First of all, you need to convert the file to a PICT file for use in Appleworks. That's the only format where Appleworks will pretty much respect the original resolution. Also, you need to turn on Fractional Character Widths in Appleworks>Preferences>General. Although this is a text setting, it also affects the post script rendering of graphics in appleworks.
You should be able to resize in appleworks (down, but not up) without loss of quality.

What print and paper sizes are you using?  Are you trying to print a borderless print?  Does your printer support borderless for that particular size?  Are you printing to the custom stock size or to a larger stock size?

  • How to view image at actual size?

I am confused by the Fireworks (CS3) image size settings. I set the canvas size at 3 inches by 3 inches, but when I measure the image on the screen with a ruler, it measures only about 2 inches across, even though the magnification setting is set at 100%. What does the size setting mean? Will the image be 3 inches wide when it is printed? How can I get the image to display at actual size?

As for ease of use, I really think it comes down to what you're used to and what makes you the most comfortable.
I personally find Illustrator much more intuitive when it comes to things like the pen tool and vector editing, and options such as Live Color and Live Paint are likewise extremely useful. However, each piece of software has its own strengths and weaknesses, and if you can use the right tool for the right situation, I think you're in a good place
As for the "set relationship" between print size and pixel size, like I said, the fundamental problem is that the "pixel" is a relative unit of measurement, primarily intended for screen output. We've already established that the 3" x 3" canvas displays at different dimensions on your monitor than it does on mine. This could be because of your display resolution setting, your monitor size, and even the physical size of the "pixel" itself on your monitor. So already we are facing problem number one—trying to determine the physical size of a non-tangible element on the screen—before we even hit the printer settings.
If you are only going to print on one printer at your home or office, and you are always going to be using the same monitor and screen resolution, you can probably work out some kind of mathematical relationship between what you see on screen and what you print. However, once you start working at higher canvas resolutions in Fireworks (to display photographic content more crisply, for instance), all of that will go out of the window. The question is whether you want to do math every time you create a canvas or draw an object.
The other issue with using Fireworks to created printed material is that Fireworks is an RGB-based program, whereas the print medium generally works with CMYK. The result is that you may find some discrepancies between the colors you see on screen vs. what you see coming out of the printer.
There are a lot of advantages to using dedicated vector-based programs for print, and Illustrator is a decent program that allows a lot of flexibility for creating work that can be used in print and on the web. However, if you still want to use Fireworks for print, keep in mind that there are some hurdles you may need to overcome that may give you some headaches in the long run. Then again, it depends on what kind of output you expect to see coming out of that printer, and whether you're ultimately happy with what you see.

  • Cannot view quicktime window normal size and still see controls!

    Help!
I cannot view quicktime window normal size and still see control butttons (pause, play etc.)
I search this forum and found another previous similar question, but the answer. (To use control+0, which would make it half-size.), is not what I need.
What I need is to have a nice fuller size view, (not the narrow little half-size), but any way i find of doing that hides the controls below the bottom of my screen!
I cannot resize it from any side, except the bottom r. corner, which is hidden with these desireable fuller options.

Update: this was my mistake - I had neglected to configure all the view containers in the WebDynproCO window, which was generated by adding the GP interface to the component.  All is well.

  • How to change print size and DPI setting in Aperture

If I import a raw image from my camera (D2X) to Aperture and print the image at about 8"x10" through Aperture, it prints at about 300 DPI, if I change to size of the same image to 12"x18", in Aperture, it prints the image at about 166 DPI. I do not believe there is a way to change this in Aperture.
My question is, can I open the image at 8"x10" in PS, change the size and resolution to 12"x18" and 300 DPI then save it, open it again in Aperture and print it. If I do these things, will the image printed in Aperture still be 300 DPI and how can I check it to see if that is the case?
I have not been able to find the DPI setting anywhere in Aperture to confirm that it is what I want or need.

"You can make the pixels bigger by making the image larger but you can't add any more pixels without running some kind of interpolation filtration like GenuineFractals or a recomputation like bicubic."
Thank you for your explanation and that brings me exactly to the point of my question.
Can I interpolate my original NEF raw image after conversion by Aperture to a much larger image for print using something similar to what Photoshop does with it's bicubic smoother or as is done in genuine fractals or must I go out of Aperture and back if I want to print with Aperture. I am hoping you will tell me that Aperture is or will be capable of interpolating an image to a larger one with more than just the pixels supplied by the camera. I do not belive that these are not enough by themselves to print a quality image in a much larger size.
I may be wrong, but I believe that it is somewhat common practice to interpolate an image to get a greater resolution printed image at a size larger that what is possible with a resolution provided by the (D2x in my case) DSLR camera.
Or is this just a tempest in a teapot. In other words, will I be able to take the image out of the D2x (12.5 megapixels) and print a 13x 19" image with the same quality in Aperture (uninterpolated but enlarged) as an interpolated image in PS or Genuine Fractals and then in PS?
    Thank you

  • Unable to view image if the size is more than 3KB using XML Publisher.

    Hello,
We are printing PO approver signature using xml publisher (rtf) on a pdf.
If the size of the image is 3KB or less, the image gets printed.
But, if the size is more than 3KB the image does not get printed.
    Additional Info:
    1. The signature is stored as jpg image in fnd_lobs table.
    2. On following code is mentioned in the rtf
    <fo:instream-foreign-object content-type="image/jpg">
    <xsl:value-of select="IMG_SIGNATURE"/>
    </fo:instream-foreign-object>
    3. We are using the following function that converts BLOB to CLOB.
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION XX_BLOBTOBASE64

  • Tiff Viewer which disables print, copy and save TIFF file

I am looking TIFF Viewer solution which woul disable any print, save and copy functions for a TIFF file. Thisfunctionality is available for PDF but I need to disable print, copy and save for TIFF files.
Would anyone know a TIFF viewer or solution that supports the following functions:
    1)      TIFF viewer where we can turn off any options to print the TIFF file or save it to disk.  That would include disabling any options where the user could right click on the TIFF and save the file somewhere else.
    2)      It would need to be able to open multi-page TIFFs.
    3)      It would be nice if the TIFF viewer could be run on both Mac and Windows platforms.
I need to send files to users for view only, and these should be in TIFF fomat, not converted into a PDF.
    Thank you for your help.

The same answer applies to any kind of file.
You need a Digital Rights Management solution. Very expensive.

  • Print size and resolution

When I select various image sizes using the Print Image function, how does Aperture change the resolution and/or number of pixels in my Aperture version to produce the printed image?  I assume it keeps all pixels and fits them to whatever image size I select, thus varying the resolution, but I'm not sure about that.  Thanks.

I am a new Mac user and for some reason when trying to view jpg's with IPhoto the screne pops up but it does not have the image there. I can see them in the previewer but get an empty pop up window. I am using a Mac Pro 2.46 processors and 12gig of ram.

and recently did something to the folders so that I can no longer see the photos fulol size.
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library Folder allowing it to overwrite the damaged file. If not, then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Viewing images on CRT, LCD and computer

Can somebody help me clarify how different a FCP edited video will look on the above devices?
My understanding is that if I was creating a video that was going to be played back on a CRT television, then I would have to adhere to the rules of 'title safe', however, if the video was intended to be played back in quicktime, then 'title safe' is not neccessary as the whole picture is shown. Can someone tell me if I am right in my thinking and why this is the case?
Also, does anyone know if I have to adhere to 'title safe' if the image is going to be shown on an LCD tv?
Any clarification will be greatly appreciated.
    Adam

And this is changing all the time with flat screens, etc.
Really comes from the idea that action and titles are 99.99% sure to be seen properly on the cr*ppiest television in your viewing area 9PAL, NTSC.)
I found the other day in my box of memorabilia a few frames of 35mm optical prep stock that showed what in the 70's was called TV Safe. If you compare that to today, you'd be amazed.

    Jay,
Could you take a stab at telling us something about your system and which version of Photoshop you're using? And what, if any maintenance you've done? And if you've changed anything on your system just prior to the problem?
    Thanks.

How do I define in Pages that I am using Staples or Avery notecard paper #.......
so it knows to print 2 notecards to a page and how to place them.

    -Jeff (frustrated) in NYC

    Hi Jeff,
I've tried the "thank you" template to check this out, hope it's the same set up - (two copies per page), as you.
    Go > print
    below "pre-sets" (again my printer)
click on any arrow to open menu
    select "layout"
select two copies per page - also when here, other variables
There is, in my printer menu, (below pre-sets) a "paper handling" selection which lets me choose which paper size to print on.
    Hope it's some help,
    Robert
