Viewing image dimensions in Finder

This may be an obvious question, but how can I view the pixel dimensions of images in Finder? I am new to the mac platform and I know in windows you can simply hover over the thumbnail in Explorer and it would tell you the dimensions of the image.
The only way that I have found the pixel dimensions in OSX is to open the pictures in preview and then "Get Info"

In List View, no. Sorry!
In Column View, open up the View Options and check "Show Preview Column". Click on an image, and in the Preview column, under the preview, there should be a list of information. The item marked Dimensions has what you are looking for.
There's also a way that works for all three views that involves the Get Info pane *in Finder* rather than in Preview. Click on an item, and hit Command+I. Open up the "More Info" section of the Info window (at the far left of the screen), and the Dimensions appear.

  • Finder doesn't show image dimensions

    Hi!
I have a problem with image dimensions in Finder. Finder doesn't show image dimension info in preview column and Get Info window. But when I open in Preview app I can see dimensions in Get Info window. How to solve this problem. If I want to sort images by dimension, I can't do that. Because Finder doesn't know image dimensions. You can see images below.

That's because the Finder is a file manager and works from file metadata. The data you're seeking is about the file contents. You need to use a Photo Manager or Browser.
There is someone who can sort images by dimensions and see dimensions in list view. Also if Finder will not show image dimensions, why give me "Dimensions" and "Resolution" option to select in list view.

I have done this. But doesn't show information.

  • Viewing images in Finder

I am a new to Macs after years on PCs. My question concerns viewing images in the Finder. In Windows XP you can open a folder of images and the number of thumbnails in the column automatically adjusts to fit the width of the window. Now you can scroll up and down to view what is in the folder.
On my Mac, when I open a folder of images in the finder I have to scroll side to side as well as up and down to see the thumbnails. Is there anyway to set the view so it adjusts itself automatically? I know I can use the slider to adjust the size of the icons to fit, but this seems like another needless step to take.

When viewing images in the Finder, mode Cower Flow, first click on the image gives you a blank image, the second press on the same image starts showing pictures.
The first time was installed OS 10.9 - was more interesting mode CowerFlow push the image such as room opens 200.jpg 199.jpg image

    Same problems with Coverflow.
When using left and right keys it will open wrong pictures. Not the one which is shown.

  • Displaying Image dimensions

    Hi,
I work with images all day and it would really convenient to view image dimensions (width x height) in a column in Finder's list-view if possible or maybe in Quicklook.
I checked out the 'SneakPeek' plugin but it only works on JPGs, not PNGs GIFs etc..
Is there any workaround? It'd save me a lot of time.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Like Jim, I also generally use Icon view for folders containing images, and have the View Option to show item info selected. Column view will also show image dimensions (both of these work, provided the folder has been indexed by Spotlight).
If you want to see the dimensions, but also want to view the folder contents in List view, the best you can do is bring up the Inspector (Command-Option-i), expand the More Info section, then move down the list using the arrow key. The Inspector pane's contents change with each new selected item, and the More Info section includes the dimensions.

  • Column view in Finder does not display image dimensions

Image dimensions display a -- when browsing in column view. If I view info on the image it appears. If I move off the highlighted image file and go back it disappears again. I have looked into the spotlight solution and do not have any folders listed under Privacy. I am running 10.7.4 and all updates are current.

Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash this file:
    com.apple.finder.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You may have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • Finder - Image Dimensions column

Hi I have thousands of files I am organizing and want the image dimensions in column view. You can do this on windows 95 how come not Mac OS X (which I love)!??
Can somebody tell me how to do this - it would be a lot of help!
    Thanks

Alas you cannot have it ALL ways...
Column view is basically a cleaner version of List view - without any of the file information visible at a glance. If you click any item shown in column view - the preview to the right should show the dimensions at the bottom, along with other data.
If you want to see all of the dimensions at a glance, you can set them in Icon View. I have the View Options for all of my folders that are full of images (which is the bulk of my folders, as I am a designer) set as below.
Double-click on the folder containing the images
Click on the Icon View thumbnail at the top of the finder window
Go to View / Show View Options
Select "Always open in icon view"
Slide the "Icon size" all the way to the right (to 128 x 128)
Slide the "Grid spacing" all the way to the left (to keep them grouped close together)
Select "*_Show item info_*" (*this is what you are after*)
Select "Show icon preview" (if this is not selected)
Select an option in "Arrange by" (this will sort / arrange them after the changes)
Select "Use as defaults" at the bottom, if you want this to be the default settings for any folder that has been set to Icon View.
This setting shows me everything I need to see quickly, and allows me to bypass the Cover Flow view, which I love - but it is only useful on the odd occasion for two reasons:
1.) It doesn't play friendly with all of my image files, it usually looks horrible (BIG deal breaker!)
2.) If I am looking over a folder FULL of images, I can usually find what I am looking for quicker by using the overview that Icon View allows, rather than flipping though the images one at a time.

  • Finder- Image Dimensions from External Hard Drive

I have found many QAs regarding people needing to see file dimensions from Finder, and they fixed it by re-starting or CMD-J to select "Show Item Info." My Finder shows dimension from all folders directly on the computer; but when I plug in my external hard drive, nothing I do will show the dimensions from images and files saved in there. For instance, I freelance for a company and keep all of that work on the external- when I'm browsing the folders for the various images I've saved, I need to see the dimensions. Often times I end up dragging them into PS to see. Below are images of what I see- Device and Finder
Why would this happen on external devices? I run Mavericks 10.9.2 on a Macbook Pro.

    Thanks for your suggestion.

  • Image dimensions in code view

I work mainly in code view and it annoys the hell out of me
that when I insert an image in code view, the height and width
attributes are never included. In order to get them, I must go to
design view and click the refresh image size icon, then return to
code view. Is there a better way of doing this or an option to have
the height and width automatically inserted with the image
    code?

    Find this file:
Image.js in the Common folder in the Objects folder and in
    that file
(which is in the Adobe/Macromedia folder in your application/
    Application Data folder)
    Find this (around line 30ish):
    var imgDim = dw.getNaturalSize(newURL);
and add before and change to:
    var currentDoc = dw.getDocumentPath('document')
    var siteRoot = dw.getSiteRoot();
    fullURL =
    dw.relativeToAbsoluteURL(currentDoc,siteRoot,newURL);
    var imgDim = dw.getNaturalSize(fullURL);

  • Image dimensions problem

    Hi all,
All I really want for Christmas is a fix for this problem (in reality, a small issue, but one that is making me seriously consider returning to the dark side...)
Because I use several different systems, all my files are stored on NAS drives (and backed up onto other NAS drives). My primary device is a LaCie 1Tb 2big Drive running RAID1. I've noticed a problem though; the finder window doesn't return image dimensions for these files - or files stored on the backup NAS drive or even the media drive (also another NAS drive). If I copy them to the local drive, immediately I see image dimensions. My default View is by Columns, but any view profile fails to show image dimensions. I've also checked that none of the network drives are within Spotlight's privacy area, but they are not.
I've just spent 30minutes on the phone to Apple Care and they can't come up with a solution, so I'm opening it up to the wider community. If it needs 3rd party software to make this work, that's fine! I'm getting desperate now as it's slowing my productivity right down. I'm also struggling to understand how even Win XP can manage this just fine, but OS X trips up?
    Anyone?
    Cheers,
    andy

I forgot to mention one other problem
The layout that I sketched up is the one I am going for. So a tip on how to get the text and the headings to flow around the image like shown in the picture would be greatly appreciated. Is it recommended to use tables inside div tags or spry for that matter?
    Thanks a million.

  • CS5: Rounded selection with image dimension?

    Hello,
I wanted to create images with roundes corners. Therefore I am using the roundec rectangle tool to create a mask.
But how it is possible (the shortest way) to have this rectangle the same size of the image?
In some layout programs you can double click the rectangle tool to create automatically a rectangle with the same dimensions of the document -- such a behaviour oder feature in PS would be nice (and this would the shortest way for my task). This is what I am looking for.
    thanks

View >> Snap to document bounds does not seem to do anything for me.
In my experience the snapping doesn't seem to apply to everything I would expect to snap. For example drawing shapes and selections don't snap for me while moving layers and transforming snap as expected.
cmeira, Sorry, I didn't read very carefully your first post.
This time I tried it myself and here's how you can do it:
Go to Layers > Vector Mask > Reveal All to attach a vector mask to the current layer.
Take the Rectangular shape tool and in the Shape tool's options click the "Paths" button for the kind of path and then also the last button which is "Exclude overlapping path areas"
Draw the rectangle path so that it fills the entire image. I find this easier by first drawing random rectangle and then pressing Ctrl + t and dragging two opposite corners to snap to the corners of the image.
Now take the Rounded Ractangle tool set the Radius for the corners in the options as desired and draw a random rounded rectangle.
Then get the Direct Selection Tool (white arrow under the T "text tool"). Drag to select all four  points on one side of the rounded rectangle, then click and start dragging one of the selected points and hold the Shift key to constrain move the points to the edge of the document where they will snap. Repeat the same for each side.
This process would have been greatly simplified if Photoshop enable snapping while drawing vector shapes. If it does I don't know how to do it.

  • Refreshing Image Preview in Finder

Is there a way to get the Finder to refresh the image preview in coverflow, or list view? I pulled in a bunch of photos from a DVD and have them in the Finder, but there is no image preview and/or icon that gives you the little thumbnail. If I hit spacebar, I can see the image just fine, but I want to quickly select images from the Finder without having to pull them into Lightroom or something. They are all JPEGs that I'm looking at. Thanks.

Click anywhere on your desktop. Then, go to Finder > View > View options and check "show item info" and "show icon preview". That should provide what you want.

  • Is there a Preserve Image Dimension when Relinking Setting in Framemaker 9?

    Hi,
I am using Framemaker 9 (structured Frame) and would like to know if there is a setting (similar to InDesign) that preserves image dimensions when relinking. In InDesign, you can turn this setting off so that the updated linked graphic will not scale or move in the document. Does Framemaker have a similar setting? We use Illustrator CS3 to create graphics. These graphics are then saved to Adobe Acrobat X Pro PDF files. I Import by Reference the PDF file using the Grahic element in Structured Framemaker. If I make any changes to the graphic file in Illustrator, the graphic that was imported into the Framemaker document shifts inside the anchored frame and then I have to recenter all the updated graphics in Framemaker. Is there a setting in Framemaker that will allow me to update a graphic file in Illustrator without having to recenter it in Framemaker?
I currently have the following File Handling & Clipboard options selected in Illustrator:
    Copy AS:
    -PDF
    -AICB (no transparency suuport)
    -Preserve Appearance and OverPrints
But, these settings do not seem to help much for the imported graphic files in Framemaker.
I appreciate any information you can provide.
    Thank you for your help.

*** haven't checked, because I don't have any pre-9.0 files easily available ***  ... but from what I remember, if you're really just viewing the files in 9.0 you should need to save them explicitly back to an earlier version. FM may mark the files as "changed" when it opens them, but that's because it checks things like datestamps and cross-references. If you do not, yourself, explicitly change any content in the file you have opened, you don't need to save the changes; just close the file unsaved.  Check my supposition with a couple of files before relying on it! And other people will be able to give you a more detailed explanation of why file you haven't touched yourself still show up as "changed".

  • When using private browsing to view image results in Safari 5.1.3, only the first two rows of results are visible, the following four or so rows display greyed out place holders, and the safe search button is inoperable. Suggestions?

When using private browsing to view image results in Safari 5.1.3, only the first two rows of results are visible, the following four or so rows display greyed out place holders, the remainder of the results page is blank, and the safe search button is inoperable. When I turn off private browsing and refresh the page, everything works again.
    Anyone else having this problem?

I have got the same behaviour after the last Safari Update to 5.1.3. It seems that Safari now handles some scripts in a new way. If you debug the Google Website, you will see, that there is some Javascript Error, that seems to prevent to write into local cache. After some searching I wasn't able to finde a solution for this problem, other then disabling Javascript while private browsing to prevent the script loading. You then are able to use Google with the old layout. The option to disable JavaScript can be found in the Menu "Developer", wich has to be enabled in Safari in the options first.
In my opinion this is a bug that is now occuring, because Apple changed something in private browsing and that has to be fixed by Google now, to run again. Or we will have to wait for 5.1.4, as you can read online Apple will change and bugfix the javascript engine in that version, perhaps this fixes the problem as well. I hope so!
If anyone is in the developer program perhaps you could test this with the beta of 5.1.4 and tell us if it works.

  • Image dimension limitations in Photoshop Elements?

I'm trying to find out what the maximum image dimensions are for Photoshop Elements 8.0
I know Photoshop CS increased the previous limit of 30,000x30,000 to 300,000x300,000.
According to this page, PSE 5 and 6 were limited to 30k:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402760.html
Yet according to this page, PSE 5 can reportedly handle 300k:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/333/333456.html
I'd like to upgrade from Elements v4 to v8, but one thing I need to ensure is that it can handle >30000px images, otherwise I'll have to go for CS5...
Can anyone give me a definitive answer, please?

When you installed the plugin(s), the installer should have created a folder in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Image Trends Inc\Hemi 1.0
Go to the Hemi 1.0 folder and copy the three plugins that don't say x64 and paste them into the pse 11 editor plugins folder
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Plug-Ins
