Viewing iMovies, created on PowerBook, on MacBook Pro

I'm trying to watch several imovies on my Macbook Pro, which won't support them. They were created on my retired PowerBook . I'm using Lion 10.7.5. Can someone advise on how I can access these movies?

I have a MBP 2.0 with 256mb video. week 11. the logic board and superdrive have been replaced.
anyway.
I have 1gb ram and a 5400 rpm drive. I have done up to 12-15 tracks with around 6 inserts on each track. I could have used buses for some of those inserts, and gotten more, but the system performance meter was only around 50%. I could have pushed it a lot more, but i transfered the project to the G5.
I think you will be able to get what you are looking for. if you max the ram and get the 7200 rpm drive you will be in real good shape. if you just get what i have you will be in good shape as well. i have no regrets, and no problems. i am about to use this notebook to record a full band via my RME FF800. I will be using the FW 400 port for the RME and i bought a nitro A/V 34 cardbus for the Lacie D2 FW800 drive i have.
I am thinking that i should be able to record up to 10 tracks or more at a time with this setup. I will not be using any effects on the recordings doing that in post. I will post on the forum the results.
good luck with your choice.
here is another note. I have a friend i record with who uses a PB 1.5ghz with 512 mb ram. he uses Logic Express, and we get up to 32 tracks easy with lots of inserts. I am thinking of getting LE just to use on my MBP if this project fails. I don't know what it is about LE. maybe that is is more streamlined and cpu friendly. when i was using my 12" PB 867 mhz with 640 mb ram and Emagic Logic Audio 6 (Silver) I could get tons of tracks and inserts.

  • How can I get the old view of iCal back on my MacBook Pro and iPhone?

How can I get the old view of iCal back on my MacBook Pro and iPhone?  The Mavrick version is crisp and clean but a colored dot is not the same as a highlighted word. I rely on my iCal on my MacBook Pro and iPhone 5 to help me track which of the 8 sites I visit for my job during the week - the color coding is (was key) to organizing and tracking meetings.  I hate the upgrade!

If purchased through the Mac App Store then it can be installed on up to five authorized CPUs. Otherwise, it's controlled by the license that came with the software.
To install on another computer copy the downloaded installer application to the other computer.

  • I am not able to update iPhoto, iMovie and garageband on my macbook pro. these three apps came installed with ilife suite.

I am unable to update iphoto, imovie, and Garageband on my Macbook Pro.  I understand that these apps are part of ilife suite.  Purchased Macbook at Best Buy January 2012.  All software is updated.  I recieve message asking me to sign into account that I purchased these apps from.  I am signed in , however I did not purchase these apps they came on Macbook.  I also tried deleting Garageband and re-installing it. Now Garageband says accept but Macbook will not accept.  Anyone else have this problem and were you able to resolve it.

The fact that they were preinstalled is why they are supposed to appear in the Purchased pane, in a temporary area labeled Purchases, for you to accept. Not doing so soon after you got the Mac has messed this process up.
    To get things back on track properly try these steps;
    Updating Pre-installed iLife apps -
1 - Log out and quit iTunes and the Mac App Store (MAS)
2 - Go to System Prefs/Users & Groups/~user/Password and enter the Apple ID connected to your iTunes/Mac App Store account. Close Sys Prefs
    3 - Delete /Mac HD/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist
    4 - Reboot your Mac
5 - Open Mac App Store
6 - Go to the Purchased pane and Accept the three iLife apps. Enter iTunes/MAS username/password if prompted.

  • Buying Opinion - Upgrade Powerbook vs MacBook Pro

I'm thinking I may try to upgrade my laptop as my main objective is to get CS4 right now but I have a friend who is selling his MacBook Pro for $900. What's your opinion as you would know better what Macs can handle? My main problem is speed especially with CS programs and I do need a new battery. I have a PowerPC G5 Dual with a large glossy screen for my most intense work that I can do from home. But I like to have a laptop that I can take on the road for working on projects. It's mostly for Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign. So no animation or gaming purposes.
    I have:
    Machine Name: PowerBook G4 17"
    Machine Model: PowerBook5,9
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.5)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.67 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.9.5f3
    His computer:
2.16 ghz Core 2 Duo Processor
    3 GB RAM (Newly upgraded)
320 GB 7200rpm HDD (Newly upgraded)
Dual Layer Superdrive (DVD and CD recorder)
    15.4" 1440x900 Widescreen Glossy Display
    128MB ATI x1600 Video
    DVI-VGA adapter Cable
    Apple Wireless Remote
    Brand new battery
It includes OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard, iLife 09, and iWork 09, all part of the "Mac Box Set," so this is all legal software.
The original box, discs and documentation are all included.
The condition of the system is excellent with one minor exception - there seems to be a very slight bend in the casing underneath the expresscard slot. One of my photos shows it.
Do you think it's doable with what I have (and what could I do?) or should I go with the newer MacBook and save myself the headache? What's the main difference with the computers?
    Thanks everyone!
    Tiffany

Re: Buying Opinion - Upgrade Powerbook vs MacBook Pro
You can get a brand new MacBook for $999 so don't bother with the used one. For the price difference, save up and buy new MacBook Pro for $1199. Faster than Macbook. Shop around. Everyone is discounting. You might get free ram upgrades (unless you're getting free ram, buy separately and install yourself), free shipping. Try Epercom, CDW and Small Dog in addition to Apple. If you go to Apple store don't be shy about asking for a 10% business discount. I asked and got one for my imac last summer.
He's offering it at $900...does that seem like a fair price for what I'd get?

iMovie was removed from my macbook pro after I downloaded OS X Yosemite, I had it before and have used it, but now I can only get it through the app store. I can't pay for it so I would really appreciate the help.

Look in your applications folder for the installer - Install OS X Yosemite. Delete it. Then go back to the App Store purchases tab and see if you can download it. You might have to re-index Spotlight.

Purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.

  • I want to use iMovie 6 on my new MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.5. It won't download. Can I download Snow Leopard instead and use iMovie 6 with that older OS?

I have a MacBook Pro I recently purchased 'cause my old G4 just couldn't output my video films properly. My new MacBook Pro is running 10.7.5 OS Lion. Don't like iMovie 11 and want to use iMovie 6. It won't download on Lion. Could I download Snow Leopard (deleting OS 10.7.5) and use iMovie 6 then? I saw a previous thread that said that could be done.

AppleMan...I have the same iMac you have...i-7 16GB with a SSD....just bought it second hand and it is about 1.5 years old....it was maxed out with upgrades when the original owner bought it.  It was also restored back to factory settings prior to me taking possession.
I am making home movies in iMovie 11....max length 30 minutes or less.  I am totally new to this editing.  I am using HD footgage filmed from my Hero GoPro 3.  I am finding that the movies that I am creating are skipping, staggering, hanging up etc...usually where I had transitions.  I am certain I have enough power and memory in my iMac, so what's the issue?  I read one of your other posts about optimizing each event or clip to 1080p?  Is this what I need to do for every clip I import?  Can I do this for all the clips at once on import?  I also read that I may need to export the movie to quick time for smooth playback??
Any help you can provide would be appreciated!
    Sincerely,
    Matt

  • Portable Home Directories - Migrating from a PowerBook to MacBook Pro

On my Powerbook, I'm using one account as PHD. Now, I bought a new MacBook Pro and at the initial setup, I transferred all data from the old Powerbook to the new MacBook Pro, including accounts.
When I now login the first time to the Mac OS X Server from the new Mac with the PHD account, do I have to take care of anything in particular? Does the sync work as usual?
    Thanks for your promt help!
    Thomas
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark here:
When you logged on to the new Macbook Pro, was it on an account that you set up locally on that machine? One perhaps with the same user short name as your Server account?
The way this works is, when you enter a username in the login panel, the Mac OS client looks into it's own local machine database (Netinfo) to find out if that client exists. If not, it checks the servers it's bound to in the "Authentication" tab of Directory Access and checks there.
So if your old Powerbook was using an account named "kirk", which is exists on your server and synced as a Portable Home Directory, and then you created a new account on your new Macbook named "kirk", your Macbook's OS won't even look on the server because it found a "kirk" locally.
If this is what happened, just do this: create a new administrator account on your MacBook, log into it, and delete your fresh new Macbook "kirk" user. Log out. At the login window, select "Other" and use your server "kirk" login. Now you'll get the option to copy your server-based home directory as a PHD.

  • Can't open documents created in Pages with macBook pro running maverick

    Hello,
I just bought the new MacBook Pro and downloaded iWork.  Now when I create a document in Pages and save it to Documents, I can't open it.  I get an error messages saying a file is missing.  Also, all my old documents created with Pages that I transfered from my old MacBook won't open.  It says file too old, need to save to Pages 09.
Tried opening the old documents in Pages 08 and saving them, but still can't open them.
    Any suggestions?

Further to my earlier post about this problem, our IT man came in to the office, by coincidence, so I grabbed him and it seems that he has cracked it.
You need to proceed as follows :
Select the document by single click on the icon (i.e. select it but don't double click which will try to open it.)
Go to File Menu and chose "Get Info"
Half way down the drop down menu, chose "Open with" then select Pages 4.0 (i.e. the iWorks 9 version)
This process will open that particular iWorks 8 document.
But, if you also tick the "Change All" box it means that opening with the new version of Pages will become the default and will apply to all iWork 8 documents so you should not need to bother with this ever again.
So far, that seems to work.
(One might have thought it would have been a good idea for Apple to have built this in as a default ?)
