Viewing mac dvd on windows vista

I burned a dvd on my mac (OS X 10.6.4) that indicated it could be viewed on any mac or windows computer but when I try to load it onto a vista computer it shows up as an blank or unreadable.

What does the DVD contain - data or videos or ?
If it's data, it has to be burned in a manner to be readable by both systems; if it's video, the footage needs to be encoded/rendered to be readable by any player, etc, etc.

  • Issue with GEAR Software CD/DVD Drivers + Windows Vista Beta 2 (build 5384)

I am using Windows Vista Beta 2 (Build 5384), and yes I know Vista is NOT officially supported by iTunes yet. However, iTunes installs and works ok for me, except that there is an issue with the GEAR Software drivers that it installs (used for cd burning and importing). The issue is that the driver (GEARAspiWDM.sys) is not compatible with Windows Vista. Normally this would not be an issue; I would just use a different program to create audio cd's. The issue is that the drive makes both my DVD-Rom and my DVD/CD-RW drive disappears (they are still listed in the device manager, but they have driver errors, code 39).
So I was wondering if anyone in Mac/Apple land knows of a way to disable/uninstall the GEAR drivers so I can still use iTunes?
And yes I did search the GEAR Software support page, but could not find an appropriate solution.
    Thank you.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Share dvd with windows vista

hi, I have the new mac mini and would like to share the dvd with a windows vista pc, after all the installation and the configuraztion of both apple and pc on a local network, I can see the windows pc but it doesn't share the dvd!
    someone can help please!
    thank you

I figured the Windoze (I like that...) machines could see the contents of the disk regardless of what the iMac sees.
Clarification -- Hmmm. I guess the main thing I need is just to see the DVD drive on windoze. I can't figure out why the drive won't show.

  • I've overwritten my Mac OS with Windows Vista, how can I get my Mac OS back

I Was downloading a Windows Vista OS on my Mac and I accidentally deleted the Mac OS. How can I get my Mac OS back? Can I use the CD's accompanied with my MAC
when I put the DVD to Install the MAC system from vista...It doesnt give an option for ordinary installtion but it gives me an option for remote installtion (which it needs an network or internet connection or something like that...) what should i do ??
    :(:(

You need to repartition the drive. While booted from the DVD, select Utilities > Disk Utility from the menu bar. In Disk Utility, select the boot drive from the list on the left. It will have a long name starting with the capacity in GB. Click on the Partition tab. Choose "1 Partition" as the volume scheme. Click on the Options button near the bottom of the window, then click on the button labeled "GUID Partition Table." Finally, click Apply. When the partition finishes, you can quit Disk Utility and go back to the Installer. You should now see your internal drive as available for installation.

  • Viewing mac HDD in windows installation on boot camp?

title pretty much explains it. i have windows xp pro installed on bootcamp but i want to view the mac hdd on windows. i can see the windows hdd in mac osx but not the other way around. the hdd is formatted to fat32. thanks

RightClick My Computer -> Manage: select Disk Management. You can see it and in Vista you can delete it. Also in Vista you can shrink your Boot Camp partition which leaves OS intact but allows another install to new volume created. In XP, I think same can be done with Diskpart.exe which is likely in \System32. You can't see data on Mac OS volume however.

  • Trouble installing Mac drivers on Windows Vista

I've just installed Windows Vista on my intel-based IMac. I'm at the final part where I'm supposed to install the Mac drivers on Vista by ejecting the Windows installation disk and inserting the Mac OS X installation disk. According to the Boot Camp Setup Assistant instructions, it should either auto-run on Vista or the 'setup.exe' application should be visible to click on. However, after inserting the Max OS X installation disk on Vista, the computer doesn't detect anything on the disk! It's as if it's empty but the 'properties' option shows that the installation disk is full! How should I resolve this problem? Can Vista actually read the files present in the Mac OS X installation disk in the first place?

Put the OS X installation disc in the SuperDrive after booting the iMac in Windows, right-click on the disc icon in My Computer, open it in explorer and then double-click on Setup.exe

  • Difficulty connecting Mac Mini and Windows Vista laptop

I have a Windows Vista laptop. I have been connecting to the Internet via a wireless DSL router. I just purchased a Mac Mini and want to hardwire the Mac Mini to the router and also create a home newtork where the Mac Mini can transfer files to and from the Vista laptop and vice versa.
What is the best way to do this? Could you please provide detailed information as well? I don't have a lot of experience with computers or networking.
    Thank you!

    Hi Bruce!
What you're wanting to do is very possible and is done often. However, please search Apple's website or Google first or search this forum for answers to your question. They've been asked and answered multiple times.
If you have problems with some of the steps then definitely post back and folks in this forum will be glad to help you get over those hurdles. We're users just like you but our time and efforts aren't unlimited.

  • Reading DVDs in Windows Vista

    Hi,
I have installed Windows Vista on my Macbook, and I can't read DVDs while I am on WIndows. However, I can read CDs, so I'd like to know how to read DVDs on Windows.
    Thanks for you help!

    Benji121:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
In response to your post above, I have a few questions for you so that I am clear on what I am addressing.
    1. Which version of Windows Vista have you installed?
    2. When you state that Vista cannot read DVDs, does that mean it cannot read the DVDs file content at all OR does it mean that you cannot PLAY DVD movies etc?
_If you have installed Windows Vista Basic and/or your answer to my Question #2 above is that your DVD player *CANNOT PLAY* Movies *but CAN* read the file directory then and only then do the following:_
    1. Download Vista Codecs from *[_THIS SITE_|http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Codec-Packs-Video-Codecs/Ad vanced-Vista-Codec-Package.shtml]*
    2. Run the downloaded file and install the codecs
You see if your Vista is the Basic version then it does not come with the Video Codecs that are necessary to play media content. The above download and installation should solve that issue.
Please note that If you have a different version of Vista then you may have a completely different issue.

Hyperlink to files work ok on my mac but not on windows vista, they open but you can't read them properly. These are both files that have been saved as Word docs. I tried firstly to save as 'pages' but that didn't work so I tried the word docs. Sorry if this has been covered somewhere else, I couldn't find it!

  • Syncing/Using iPod on both Mac Leopard and Windows Vista.

I can't use my iPod on Vista without restoring the firmware to work with windows, and subsequently losing all the songs on it! Is there anyway round this? Basically this means that I cannot transfer my purchases onto a second computer.
    Not good.

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Mac formatted iPods can only be used on a PC that has a third party helper program such as XPlay or MacDrive installed: How to determine your iPod's disk format
XPlay has the added functionality to let you copy your songs back to iTunes. So you could copy all of your songs to your PC and then restore the iPod to format it for Windows and add the songs back again. A Windows formatted iPod can be used on both platforms though you would have to carry out any firmware updates on a PC to maintain the formatting. If you are interested you can purchase XPlay at this link: XPlay
One last thing, If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • File Sharing With OS X 10.5 - Share Mac Files with Windows Vista

I am a new user of iMac and I was finally able to connect to my home network with the help of this web site:
    http://macs.about.com/od/macwindows/ss/sharemacfilesvs.htm
Thanks to Tom Nelson of About Macs.com, I previously had to search the Apple Support pages for help with this to no avail. Then I called the Apple Express case # 232117496 and spent 1-hour on the phone with the tech who could not solve the problem. He finally said it was something to do with my Windows network setting indicating that it probably had a stealth password set. I did not agree and was finally able to get help from About.com. I will be adding this site for future issues with Macs, thanks Tom

I reset my TC and everything was wonderful.

  • Photoshop Elements 6 on a Mac  OSX versus Windows Vista

I have finally given up trying to come up with a printing work around for PSE6 (and Aperture and Lightroom) on the Mac. Use of ICC profiles invariably results in dark prints (double colour proofing). I love my MacBook Pro and I cannot understand why Apple, Adobe and Epson (I have an R1900) cannot come up with a solution. When I edit files in PSE 6, save them in PSD format and then print them on my PC using PSE 2 and the same ICC and printer set up (no colour adjustment), the prints are colour perfect. I do have a calibrated monitor and I am using the latest R1900 driver (that said, I am confused why the Epson 6.60 driver shows as 6.38 in preferences). Will Adobe UK transfer my PSE 6 licence from a Mac to a PC, and how do I go about it? Many thanks.

    >Will Adobe UK transfer my PSE 6 licence from a Mac to a PC, and how do I go about it?
No, not now. They do offer a crossgrade. but only if you have the current version. Since you only have PSE 6 and not PSE 7 there's just no point, since Adobe would make you pay the "upgrade" cost, and you can usually find PSE 7 for much less than the adobe price.
