Viewing movies in Aperture

I have just upgraded to Aperture, as the Apple Store suggested that with the amount of photos we take & manage, it would be a worthwhile upgrade.
However, the videos we could view in iPhoto are now stated as an "Unsupported Format" in Aperture.
Is there an easy suggestion to fix this?
Thanks

The one step I also did that I didn't mention before.
Once I reinstalled Mountain Lion which gave me the com.apple.xpchelper.cache file back.
I went into Aperture,
I checked that the movies would play.
Like Massimiliano1 the previews were still screwed up so I selected the movies option-right-clicked the movies and choose Generate Preview.
The Option button changes the "update preview" to "Generate Preview" in the menu
All is well.
On wither or not to reinstall. If the above worked, you are ok, but I would still recommend reinstalling the OS so you get your recovery partition back. Never know when you are going to need it.

  • Using Aperture 3 and Lion I can no longer view .mov file

Using Aperture 3 and Lion I can no longer view .mov files from a Canon G11. I get a thumbnil which is a triangle with !. If I right click I can open it with Quick time. I cannot import any of the files into iMovie as it does not recognize them in Aperture or iPhoto.  From other dicussions I tried removing 3ivvxVideoCodec.componenet from Quiktime Library and retarted with no success, so iI restored the file.

    You are welcome;
there is another problem with videos, that might apply in your your case, when you reimport the videos, after you deinstalled the codec - the location you are importing from, and the permission settings, see this post:
Re: Aperture cannot read newly imported video since Lion upgrade.

  • Full Screen - Main Viewer Bug in Aperture 2.0

When I enter full screen mode the "Main Viewer" button on the toolbar that allows one to view either multiple and a single image is grayed out UNLESS I have the viewer panel displayed before entering full screen mode.
    Anyone else noticed this?

I had been using Aperture 2.1 for some time with only the usual bugs, most commonly, the Viewer screen going black or blue or red occasionally, but a new bug has appeared that is forcing me to restart Aperture frequently. After making edits, when I move on to the next image in the Browser (the thumbnail highlighting changes, as it should) the image in the Viewer does not change. I have not found a way to get a new image in the Viewer except restarting Aperture. This is greatly slowing down my processing of big projects.
Has anyone else seen this bug? Have you found a workaround beside restarting?
can u guys please give us a little more info? where's the aperture library located? in your main hard drive (os x) or on another drive?
are you sending the crash logs to apple?

  • How do I view movies using apple tv that have been imported into iMovie?

I am trying to view movies using a second generation AppleTV that I imported into my computer from my video camera using iMovie.  I tried importing them into iTunes after importing them with iMovie but it creates a second copy of the movie and I don't have room on my hard drive.  Can I view them on my Apple TV without importing them into iTunes?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
iMovie is an editing application, you import raw footage, edit it, export it and if you don't have a lot of room trash the original files. It is not intended to be used for finished movies.
Video footage for editing needs to be in a different format than it does for delivery, delivery formats (m4v etc) are highly compressed and take up considerabally less room than footage in an editing format.

how do i view movies on my ipod do i need a app

Your question has nothing to do with ichat -  not sure why you posted in the ichat forum.
Just sync them from itunes to your ipod, if your ipod is capable of playing videos ( you did not mention which ipod you have).

  • Screen is magnified after viewing movie on television.

Screen is magnified after viewing movie on television.  It automatically goes larger when connecting to TV and usually goes smaller when disconnecting .  This time it has remained large.

It's normal that the things on the screen will change size when you change resolution.  A 64x64 icon on the desktop will be a very different size at 800x600 than at 1280x960.
You didn't say which MacBook Pro you have, so I don't know what the native resolution of the screen is (ie, the number of physical pixels in the screen), but it will be whatever the highest resolution is (bottom of the list, biggest numbers).

I just rented movie from iTunes and downloaded to my iPad. Can I connect iPad to my tv to view movie?

  • Screen goes to sleep even when viewing movies in full screen mode

Hi, I have adjusted my settings so my screen goes to sleep after 5 minutes which is ok. But it also does this when viewing movies in full screen mode.... Is this a setting somewhere? Thanx!

    Welcome to the Discussions!
"When the computer is inactive" or "idle" means when YOU, the user, are doing nothing, neither using the keyboard nor the mouse. So you have to increase that 5 mins in Energy Saver.

  • View movies in different language

I'd like to view movies in German on the iPad. Any suggestions?

Sorry, see this page for specifications
You can add movies from iphoto to itunes by dragging them from iphoto to itunes. You can convert any movies you need to by selecting them in itunes and choosing 'Create Apple TV Version from the advanced menu.
If you want to tell us more about your movies we can tell you whether you are likely to need a 3rd party converter or not. Open them in quicktime and See This

  • Are there any Components to view movies on G5 Macs? Or another way to view?

I can't seem to view anything I download. I get a message saying I need additional components. I've tried installing XviD & DivX, but I get messages saying these require Intel Macs; my iMac is a G5 running 10.4.11 and QuickTime 7.6.4. Does anyone know where I can get components to view movies in Quicktime? If not, is there any other way for me to view movies I've downloaded? Thanks in advanc

    Welcome to the forums!
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear/play pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
Download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 11.1 for Mac from:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15540
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
NOTE: On December 8, 2009 Adobe announced plans to drop Flash Player security support next year for Mac owners whose machines run PowerPC processors.
"Adobe will be discontinuing support of PowerPC-based G3 computers and will no longer provide security updates after the Flash Player 10.1 release," said Adobe in the same advisory that spelled out the seven patches. "This unavailability is due to performance enhancements that cannot be supported on the older PowerPC architecture."
    http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index.cfm?email&NewsID=28011
You should also consider the Shockwave Player, which displays Web content that has been created by Adobe Director, much used for multimedia: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/internet_utilities/adobeshockwaveplayer.ht ml
You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2009-005 (and for Tiger only, 2009-002 and 003). (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
And there is an additional kid on the block: SilverLight. Microsoft has created their own version of what a replacement for Flash could be. You can read more about it here:
    http://silverlight.net/
So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards) if you are using a PPC Mac, but even this will not work with Safari 4. Version 2 only works with Intel Macs and does work with Safari 4:
    http://silverlight.net/GetStarted/
Recommendation: Close all applications before installing any of the above, repair permissions, reboot, and repair permissions again.
