Viewing multiple thumbs before importing?

Hi,
I am going through photo discs trying to accumulate relevent photos to make a Photo Book. I don't want to import every single photo on each disc in order to look at and them in iPhoto - and would prefer not to have to click on each photo to see what it is before importing. Does anyone know if there is a way to view multiple thumbs before selecting which to import?

Ah yes...thank you very much! I never venture up there because I am terrified I will mess with stuff that should be just left alone and I have developed a blind spot to then search up there for things.... Unfortunately there is nothing in the Contextual Menu Folder so I can't manually remove anything there.
Unless you have another suggestion, I suppose I will browse around his site and see if there is a reference to solving this particular problem in downloading the program.
Thanks for your help Terence.

• Force users to view multiple items before moving on

In it's most basic form this is what I need to do.
I'll have three boxes. When the user clicks box A another box will appear containing a descrption of box A. When the user clicks box B, description box A will need to disappear and description box B will appear, etc. I think I know how to handle this portion using advanced actions, but is there a way to force users to view all 3 boxes before they can advance to the next slide? I think it should be able to be done in advanced actions but I'm not sure how to write something like that.

Nothing to apologize for.
the action looks good to me.
So your button is showing the language image, the language close button, then hiding some other things. The expression you have is right.
Your hide_languageDefinition adv action does the hide for the img_language. Instead of a 'standard action' you need a conditional action similar to your show_FDCPA_nextButton action you have above.
In that conditional screen where it says "untitled" you can have the action do several things. You'll need it to hide your img_language and the btn_languageClose like you have already. Since you want it to do the show/hide no matter what you can set it like this:
Action Type: Conditional action
Action Name: hide_languageDefintion
If:
(choose literal from the drop down)
Type a 1 in the text field
(choose 'is equal to' from the drop down)
(choose literal from the next drop down)
type a 1 in the text field.
You're saying "if 1=1, then do the actions below" 1 is always going to equal 1 so it's always going to run the actions.
Under actions put all your show/hide statements like you have above in hide_languageDefition
I suggest changing that 'untitled' name to something that makes sense to you.
Click on the next 'untitled' tab and add the conditional if/then statement like you have above in show_FDCPA_nextButton.
Find your languageClose button, and set it to run this advanced action.
What the action will do now is runs the hide actions you have. Then it looks at each variable to see if it is greater or equal to 1. if they're all true, then it shows the next button.
hope that makes sense; i can't attach screen shots from work, i apologize I can't help more.
As for variables, this recorded session might help you: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/event/index.cfm?event=register_no_session&id=1891451&loc=en_u s
picture a variable as a container.. a jar. That jar has a label and you can write anything you want on it (the name of the variable). That jar can contain 'stuff.' numbers, words, whatever you want to put in it. You can also manipulate what's in there with different functions of captivate. So let's say in your case I want to track if a learner clicks a button.
So I have my jar, and when the learner clicks a button I take a piece of blank paper, write a "1" on the paper and put it back in the jar. If they click that button again, I take out that paper, see a '1' on it, and I add 1 to it, and write '2' on the paper (this is your expression above 'btn_abussive_harassing_language = btn_abussive_harassing_language + 1').
When I'm closing the image, I pull out the jar, and look at the paper. If the paper has a 1 or higher written on it, I show the next button (after checking all 3 jars, that is).
That's the quick version of what variables are and how they work, I hope that helps.

• How can I view and choose photos before importing from a digital camera?

Hey,
I am using a Canon PowerShot A40 and I want to be able to (after I connect the camera and open iPhoto of course) view the pictures on the camera in iPhoto and choose individual images to import. I have 560 images, but I only want to import 3 (groan) and there seems to be no way to preview the pics before importing. So now I am importing 557 useless pics that I already have in my library just to get 3 more pictures! There has got to be a way to preview! C'mon Apple...
Anyway, someone please help me with this.
Cheers,
Josh

Oh, thanks Dave. I did not think Image Capture had even a useful function. heh.
Well, I used the "coffee" method (actually it was tea) and just deleted what photos I did not need afterward. It worked out, but I will use Image Capture next time.
No offence to Apple, but why the heck has Apple not included such a feature in iPhoto? I mean that is just common sense to include previews before you import God knows what, unless it takes a lot of work to make that happen for iPhoto. Windows makes it simple to preview and view images. O well, I am sure Apple will get it done eventually, but I shouldn't have to wait for iLife '08!
Cheers,
Josh

• View raw files on card before importing

Is there a way to view and select my files on my CF card in Lightroom before importing? This would save a lot of download time. I can view and select in Breezebrowser, writing down the file names and then selecting which ones to import in Lightroom. It would be much easier to do this all in Lightroom if possible.

I think you can do this in the Import dialog. There is a selectable option to Preview the files to be loaded, and once this is selected, you can view the files and select those you want to import.

How do I view multiple images in one window? I want to compare images side by side, not in tabs.

Thank you, Barbara. I found that I had to close the program after I turned on "allow floating documents" and restart, before I was able to go to "float all in windows".

Select them and press the Option, Command, and I keys at once. The resulting window will change its content based on the selection.

• View multiple versions of content concurrently

I am currently working in an IT team that is beginning to use Webcenter Sites, and I was asked if there was any way to view multiple versions of web content side by side, to see changes made etc. I've not come across this feature before, does anyone know if it is possible to do such a thing using WCS, or if there are any plugins that can perform this?
Cheers,
Harrison

Hello Harrison,
What do you mean with "view multiple versions of web content side by side, to see changes made"?
You can enable the revision tracking by assettype in order to track the last versions.

• Multiple Thumb Slider with Multiple Track Colors

Hi All,
Does any one implemented a Multiple Thumb Slider component with Multiple Track Colors. Please find the screen shot of the component below which I am talking about.
Any ideas or any link or sample source of code given would be highly appreciated.
If I drag any thumb the colored section between any two thumbs should increase or decrease.
Thanks,
Bhasker

Hi,
There is a sort of workaround I made myself. Basically you set up your slider into a canvas container and add new boxes exactly at the position between your thumb buttons, in order to imitate your 'tracks'. Look the image below and notice that the black tracks are in fact VBoxes. For different colors, make each VBox different backgroundColor style.
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.containers.VBox;
var tracks : Array = [];
public function changeSliderHandler(event : Event) : void {
for (var i : int = 0,j : int = 0; i < tracks.length; i++) {
var track : VBox = tracks[i] as VBox;
track.setStyle('left', slider.getThumbAt(j++).xPosition + 3);
track.setStyle('right', slider.width - slider.getThumbAt(j++).xPosition + 3);
public function addTrackHandler(event : Event) : void {
var track : VBox = new VBox();
track.setStyle('backgroundColor', '#000000');
track.width = 0;
track.height = 2;
track.setStyle('bottom', '7');
tracks.push(track);
canvas.addChild(track);
slider.values = slider.values.concat(0, 0);
slider.thumbCount += 2;
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:Panel title="My Slider" height="95%" width="95%"
paddingTop="5" paddingLeft="5" paddingRight="5" paddingBottom="5">
<mx:Canvas id="canvas" borderStyle="solid" height="40" width="100%">
<mx:HSlider id="slider" minimum="0" maximum="100" thumbCount="2"
change="changeSliderHandler(event)" values="{[0,0]}" showTrackHighlight="false"

• IPhoto Slow, Blank thumbs, double import, did I mention S L O W

iPhoto Slow, Blank thumbs, double import, did I mention S L O W? iMac G5, 768 Ram, I loaded and EDITED 500 photos, went to export. Found thousands of images in machine I never loaded. Attempted to export some photos to flickr (before finding they had a fix). Nothing.
So I did, what any MS user would do, I reinstalled iPhoto. Now there are 500 empty frames, some with ghosts, and 2 sets of newly imported fotos. Tried to do some deleting, but no benefit.
Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear you're having problems like this - I have 768 MB of RAM on a G4, and I have seen no slowdown with 13,000+ photos.
Could you be more specific with how you arrived at the problem? Here's some questions that come to mind:
- What kind of images? JPG? RAW? approximately what size and resolution?
- Blank thumbs are usually a result of things being moved around in the iPhoto library, and the iphoto database loses track of the paths. The golden rule is, never mess with the organization of your iPhoto library from within the Finder.
- Usually if an application is that slow it is running into problems, so if you launch Console, and then iPhoto, you may see new messages that may indicate a problem.
- The thousands of images in the machine, that you never loaded, what are they? Are they images that were in your Pictures folder? Did someone else use the computer?
- What do you mean by double import? If you leave your camera or card reader connected, you will be shown the screen where iPhoto is ready to import. If you choose to import again, you could double-import.
- If iPhoto finds photos at the root level of its iPhoto Library folder, it may try to import them. If interrupted or if the application is forced to abandon the import, it may try again on relaunch.
- How did the export to flickr fail? Was it with the blank thumbnails selected?
Maybe information that could answer the above questions, could help me or someone on the discussion board help you figure out what's going on.

• UI Design help / Slider with multiple thumbs?

I've got an application which is trying to set multiple bounds
around a single value. For instance, if my value was "temperature",
possible bounds might be cold, temperate, hot.
I want my user to be able to assign all of those ranges.
My first thought was to use a slider with multiple thumbs. I could
have 0 and 100 as min and max, say, with 2 sliders. Everything
to the left of the first slider is "cold", everything between the two
sliders is "temperate", and everything to the right of the second
slider is "hot.
Of course, JSlider does not have support for multiple thumbs.
So, I was hoping someone could either suggest a freeware/LGPL
widget that did *or* could propose a clever redesign to obviate
the need for one.
In reality, my problem is more complex -- multiple values with
varying start values, end values, and number of thresholds. I'm
using multiple sliders right now, and it's functional, but really fugly.
Thanks for any help you might be able to provide!

• Aperture Preview Images Before Import

Hi,
I have a doubt as to wheter I missinterpreted or a function is in fact not enabled in Aperture altought it is mentioned in the description of Aperture features.
In this webpage https://www.apple.com/aperture/features/#import on the "Preview Images Before Import" area one can read "Double-click any image in the Import window to view it at a larger size. You can also play video and audio clips before importing them.". Thou when I try to preview (or Quick Look) an image or video in the Import window from my iPod touch by double-clicking nothing happens ?!? Did I missinterpret? Is this behaviour not valid for iOS (iPod's or iPhone's) devices for some reason?
Please help me understand as previewing a video is extremelly valuable for me to know what to name the file before importing.
Thank you.
André

I must say this seems to me like a slightly false (or at the least missleading) advertisement.
I understand that iOS can pose a different protocol, but then one should not use a sentence like "Double-click any image in the Import window ".
You may want to send this feedback to the developer team using the feedback form:

The documentation could frofit from some corrections-

• Ability to view multiple files in ONE window

I can see here that this is not a new topic really but the thing with Acrobat 9 is so frustrating that it is just unbelievable.
This is another pearl:
Acrobat 9 "lost" its predecessors ability to view multiple files in ONE window. After opening four only documents I cannot see anything on the screen because the toolbars on each individual window cover all necessary view and nothing is left for the actual document. And sometimes I need to open 20 documents!
This is ABSOLUTE DISASTER!!!
I found some explanations from Adobe on the Web that are more than a year old.
I was sure that by now this unfortunate mishandling of that feature (apparently it was dropped out from A9 deliberately - WHO'S IDEA WAS THAT?) would be somehow restorable.
Would anyone happen to know if this feature can get restored to how it was working in A7 or 8 (without the need to uninstall A9 and install A8)?

No, it can't be restored, unless Adobe decides to change the way Acrobat works (which is possible, but not likely).
By the way, it was Microsoft's idea... Adobe were just following their example on this.

Quit iPhoto.
Select the Library in the Finder, click the name, and edit the name like for any file.

• Can I view multiple sheets at the same time?

My search fu hasn't been up to finding how, or if it is possible, to view multiple sheets of the same document at the same time. Can it be done? Either a split view in a single window or multiple windows would be fine.

Thanks for the answer. Another workaround is to copy the table that I'm interested in and move it to the sheet where I want to see it. When done I can copy it back or delete it. Just seems like extra effort for something that should be built in.
No need to copy the sheet. You could just drag it to the sheet where you want to see it, and when done, drag it back 'home'. (This can be done using the icons in the sidebar.)
Caution: Changing to this method will require vigilance on your part to prevent accidently deleting the table instead of moving it. frequent Saves are recommended.
