Viewing Netflix Trailers with QuickTime in Safari

I use both Safari and Firefox browsers, but I have come to prefer Safari. I also subscribe to the Netflix DVD rental service. I enjoy the Netflix feature that allows viewing movie trailers by clicking a "Preview" button.
When I click Preview in Firefox, the trailer plays in Windows Media Player. When I click the Netflix Preview feature in Safari, nothing happens except the URL showing in the address bar shows "http://www.videodetective.net/player.asp?cmd=3&publishedid=6857&CustomerId=672 72&videokbrate=300."
I would like to use the QuickTime application to view Netflix trailers in my Safari browser but after searching this discussion board, but I haven't uncovered a discussion of the particular issue.
I am running OS X 10.4.3, Safari 2.0.2, QuickTime 7.0.3, and Player 7.0.3

When I click Preview in Firefox, the trailer plays in
Windows Media Player. When I click the Netflix
Preview feature in Safari, nothing happens except the
URL showing in the address bar shows
"http://www.videodetective.net/player.asp?cmd=3&publis
hedid=6857&CustomerId=67272&videokbrate=300."
I came upon the answer to this, after asking Saft author Hao Li about it:
"You have "Block Images and Plugins" checked under Safari menu. Turn it off." I had checked "Only Animation" in the submenu, and when unchecked, I got WMP to work again for previewing movies.
A temporary solution, in my mind. Let's still see if we can get Netflix to use QuickTime Player! Use their contact link at the bottom of each page to make your desires known.

  • View dvcPRO-HD with quicktime?

    Hello,
I am editing a project in dvcpro hd, I copied all of the media to a second drive as a backup.
My director wants to take that drive and view the files with quicktime on her g4 laptop.
Is it possible to view dvcpro hd quicktimes on a computer that doesn't have fcp on it?
Would it work to copy the codecs out of my quicktime library into hers?
    Thanks much for any info.

You can't view the DVCProHD files without the codecs provided with FCP... AFAIK, they are all that is required.

  • Can't open Apple HD Movie trailers with Quicktime download link

    Hi all,
For some reason, I can't seem to get Safari to automatically open Quicktime Player X to open an Apple HD trailer on trailers.apple.com.  I can only view trailers when clicking on "Watch Now".  I can also workaround this issue by righ clicking on the HD trailer links and then selecting "Open with Quicktime Player" which then allows me to view the HD trailer in QT player X.  But I'd like to have that process automatic, like it used to.
Is there a quick fix for this?

After hours with try and error no solutions.
I changed now from windows with iTunes over to my Mac and surprise: It works. All videos are now playable (the same which wasn't before)
=> Windows Vista, 64Bit, Itunes 10.5.3.3  did not work
=> Same mp4 over Mac to Ipad did work.
No idea, what's going on, or is wrong on the PC.
    Thanks,
    i-v

  • Trouble viewing QT Trailers with new QT version?

    Hey there,
I'm having trouble viewing QT trailers, especially HD trailers, that used to download and play perfectly from Safari.
Is anyone else having this new problem ?
    thanks,
    tnixer

I'm back.. Found the problem.. Go to User/Library/Preferences.. and thow away (or move to the desktop) the following files. com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist and com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist I suspect its that second one that does the trick. But it doesn't hurt to pitch them both... I don't think. Hope this helps

  • Can't view .mov file with quicktime

Hello. I need help viewing a .mov file with Quicktime 7.5. It was recorded on a Canon Vixia HV30 camcorder and given to me on a dvd. But when I try to view the .mov file with Quicktime, I can hear the audio but the screen is black. Sometimes, it asks me to continue to the following link:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html?os=Windows&ctype=696d64 63&csubtype=69636f64
I'm not that computer savvy - what is wrong? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sorry. My "then" (above) should have been "they".
They sent you a data DV containing the "source" from the camera and the HDV codec isn't available on your PC so you can't view the file.
Ask the authors to convert the file using H.264 Video codec (or others) so your Windows version of QuickTime can play the file.

  • Problem viewing AVI files with quicktime plugin

I have quicktime 7.6 and perian installed
When I try to stream an AVI file I can hear sound but no video is displayed
If I download the file and I then play it with quicktime everything is fine
If I remove perian then I will be able to stream from the website but of course unable to play MKV, Divx and Xvid files
I have removed all obsolete codecs and I am running out of ideas on what is wrong with the system

In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from
    http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

  • Opening HD trailers with QuickTime 7

I'm trying to eliminate the use of QuickTime X without having to remove components manually, or hide the application itself--and so far it's worked out pretty well.
However, the only thing that is really nagging is the fact that all HD trailers on apple.com open with QT X. Is there any way to stop this, and get QuickTime 7 to do it instead? I'm using Firefox, and i've already checked to make sure every QT object opens with QT 7. Didn't help however.

all HD trailers on apple.com open with QT X. Is there any way to stop this, and get QuickTime 7 to do it instead?
Not sure. Have not found any way to set up an automatic preference to open in QT 7 here, but... (not sure if this is uniquiqe to something I've mistakenly done to my system or that only works in Safari) I get HD movies to load in the QT 7 Player by simply opening the QT 7 Player first and then double-clicking the HD button for the dimensions (480p, 720p, or 1080p) I want to view in the QT 7 Player. (A single click still opens the files in the QT X Player.) Alternatively, you can always use the "Open URL..." option from within the QT 7 Player to view a movie in it.

  • Can't view movie trailers with iTunes 7.1

I am trying to view trailers. I click the "view trailer" button, a screen appears telling me it's loading, it goes and goes for awhile. Then, it appears that the screen changes for a split second and has a preview window in it, but then instantly reverts back to the initial screen with no trailer window in it. I've tried changing the prefs to not view until the entire file is loaded (both enable and disabled this with same results). The System Prefs > Quicktime > Streaming is set to Automatic. I've repaired permissions and quit and restarted iTunes several times. This occurs repeatedly with the same trailer and with 3 other trailers I've attempted to view. This is the first time I've ever tried to view trailers using iTunes, so I have no previous experience with which to compare. Any suggestions?

I have tried viewing trailers on all 3 of our Macs and found the following:
Macbook Pro (Core 2) - won't play trailer
iMac Intel (Core 2) - won't play trailer
Macbook (Core 2 Duo) - WILL play trailer
May be coincidence, but interesting the Core 2 Duo computer is the only one with which I do not have the above problem.

  • I'm having a problem with QuickTime in safari on the iPod touch

Whenever I try to watch a video in safari the QuickTime logo comes up and it loads but only the audio plays and the QuickTime logo just stays on screen. I've erased all history and cookies and cache and also tried powering the iPod on and off and that didn't help ether

My guess is the format of the video is not compatible with the iPod.  The iPod does not have Quicktime.  The 4G iPod supports these video formats:
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

  • Can't play trailers with Quicktime 6.5.2

When I go to Apple's trailer site and click on the trailers, they don't start automatically. They used to but all of a sudden I only see a white background and the Quicktime logo in a square box. Does anybody know what the problem is?

    hi Abi!
interesting question. itunes 4.9 could work with a QT 7.0.2 or 7.0.3.
let's give a standalone QT 7.0.4 installation a try. (it's more stable than the earlier 7.0.x versions.)
download and save a copy of the QT 7.0.4 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
    love, b

  • Trouble viewing streaming video with Quicktime

This is a problem I have no encountered before, and I am hoping someone has an idea, because I'm fresh out.
A user has to take a class that involves her logging into a webiste with her own unique ID, and watching a video before it will allow her to take a test. It is a quicktime streaming video. When she attempts to watch the video, all she gets is a large quicktime symbol with a bar going back and forth under it, as though it were loading, but it never loads. Here comes the odd part. We had another user log into the website ont the same computer and she was able to watch the video just fine. We then had the original user try to watch on a different computer, and she was still not able to watch, though another user was able to watch the video with their own login on that computer as well. We believe it is a problem with her account on that website, but I am just curious if quicktime has any quirks that might cause this? Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

I cannot imagine that the problem is due to QuickTime or any other fault on the computer. If it were, it's highly likely that all users logging in from that same computer would have the same problem, and the problem would not be moving with that user to other computers.
I think it's almost certainly something amiss with your user's account on your server.
    Regards.

  • Macbook starts up with quicktime running...won't close.

My macbook is booting up with quicktime and safari running and won't allow me to open any applications or allow me to shut down. I have to re-boot several times before it finally cooperates. It goes into this mode whenever I try to open a video file on youtube or facebook. Any suggestions out there?
    OS X 10.6.8
    Thanks,

    Hi ccronic4,
If you are able to boot your MacBook Pro using a safe boot - that is holding down the shift key during startup - successfully, that indicates that the hardware is functioning normally, and therefore that the issue is because of software. The good news is that a hardware repair will not be necessary.
See this article for information about what to troubleshoot further -

  • Using QuickTime Broadcaster with QuickTime Player

I have one computer streaming video/audio using QuickTime Broadcaster. How are you supposed to view the stream with QuickTime Player on another computer? None of the QuickTime docs says how you view a stream. I tried entering the IP address of my broadcast computer into the Open URL field, but nothing happens. I have the latest SW on everything.

Thanks. This helped, although it still didn't work. I found the solution in the help file although I still had to experiment. The description below is one way for it to work, although there are probably other ways.
To get it to work from one computer to another, you have to export from the QTB an sdp file. This file gets stored on the viewing computer. On the QTB computer, on the Network tab, the IP address needs to be the viewing computer's IP. Once broadcasting, the QT Player on the viewing computer opens the sdp file. It should then work. If anything on QTB get changed (MPEG-4, etc), you need to export another sdp file.

  • Safari, view movies with QuickTime problems

Problem with quicktime plugin in safari.
    Safari dont play movies.

Thanks for the link to the film adaptation of Pullman's 'Northern Lights' trilogy - looks promising!
Sorry, back to the problem at hand:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above (but this has not been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

H.264 video should be supported by your basic Snow Leopard operating system. The DVCPRO HD family of codecs is part of the Apple "Pro" codecs package which is normally installed as part of a "Pro" video editing suite installer or contemporaneously installed separately as part of one of the newer pro editing apps like FCPX. if you already have one of these pro suites or apps installed or available, then re-install the correct codec package that is missing. If not, you will need to purchase a Pro suite or app to be able to install the required codec package.
