Viewing on external monitor....needs rendering first???

Hi there!
I'm using FCE2.0 on a G4 dual 1Ghz, a dataVideo DAC-100 converter and a CRT Sony monitor w/ rca ins. I wish to have playback occur on both the canvas and the external monitor, but i find the only way the image will show on the monitor is if i change the Video mode in the View Menu from RealTime to "FireWire". It is now that just about my entire sequence gets red bars and needs to be rendered before seeing anything! IF i render (which will take a while) both will playback as i wish. Is this typical? Do i have something backwards?
Thanks in advance!
-Breckman

Hi Tom,
Thanks for replying.
Yea, i guess i didn't really examine the areas needing to be rendered closely. They are indeed areas w/ effects, motion and such. The areas that don't require rendering do in fact play both on the TV and the canvas. I guess i got the answer to my question.
Thanks again!

  • Viewer and External Monitor doesn't playback at same time

When watching clips in the viewer window, they playback fine. But on my external monitor, it only shows the first frame from when it's played. when I stop playback, the external monitor then shows the last frame the Viewer window is stopped on. How can I fix it so that the viewer and external monitor playback the clip at the same time?
At the moment we're digitizing footage with the Offline RT Photo JPEG codec set to 75% quality.
A few days ago we were digitizing footage at 35% quality and that footage plays back fine. We moved to 75% quality at the editor's request. A few days ago we had created a few sample 75% quality tests for the editor to view. I loaded those clips into Final Cut right now and they playback fine as well. So it's all of a sudden just these new clips created yesterday :S.

    Yes.
Forgot to mention that the timeline plays all the footage back properly on both the canvas window and the external monitor. Sorry for not mentioning that sooner.
More discoveries! The playback 'freeze' only happens if I open a clip from the browser into the viewer. If I open a clip from the timeline into the viewer, it plays-back fine!

  • Unable to view in external monitor...

...tried "REFRESH AV DEVICES" and "VIEW> ALL FRAMES" and monitor set to AV in but no images from timeline, all connections are checked okay. Video is standard dv 16:9. Anybody have ideas?. Thanks

Shane's Stock Answer #8: External Monitor Viewing
If you are working with DV, this is simple. First connect your computer to a camera or deck via firewire, Then connect the camera/deck to your TV/Monitor via RCA or S-Video.
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Go to the View Menu, choose > External video > all frames
VIEW>Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
VIEW>Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section.
If you are working with HDV footage, FCP 6 allows you to view this via firewire, but ONLY as downconverted DV. It won't look the best, but you can see it. To do this,
If you need to view any format other than DV at full resolution, then you need to look into capture cards. Several standard definition and high definition models are available from www.aja.com and www.decklink.com. With these options you'll need a proper monitor to view full broadcast colors, but all models allow for realtime standard definition downconvert, allowing you to view HD on an SD monitor.
The Matrox MXO is another option that is output only, but allows you to view your footage on an Apple Cinema Display at full broadcast quality.

  • Can't view from external monitor

You know when you have your DV connected to your mac, when you edit, the LCD on the DV would show you the final output of your project? I've been using that to see what my final output is but suddenly it's not working.
I mean, everything else works great, I double and triple checked my setting under the audio/video setting and the playback output is set to apple firewire pal, but I still can't get anything from my DV. What else should I check?

  • Viewing on external monitor with ADVC-100 and s video

I am trying to view my canvas on a external monitor. I have a canopus ADVC-100 and i am using the firewire input and the s video as the output in the back. When I try to set it up and i select view all frames, but when i go to the video output menu it says my firewire device is missing. Any hints or tips on what i am doing wrong. I am using the s-video because the monitor only has a components input available, the RCA's are already occupied.

Is the ADVC powered? When you connect firewire to the back of the unit, it gets powered by that connector, but the firewire jack on the front is only 4-pin and doesn't support power.
If you have a 6-pin to 6-pin firewire cable, try connecting it to the back of the ADVC110 and then the front of the box should light up, indicating power.
I'm having a similar issue. I can print to tape via the Canopus box, but I want to be able to drive a monitor with it just so I can have an NTSC monitor while I'm editing. I can't seem to make it work. Any ideas?

  • Pages Full screen view second external monitor

I use a 24" monitor as my primary display when i'm at my desk with my Macbook Pro. Is there anyway to get pages full screen view to display on the external monitor instead of the macbook pro screen?

Apple has sort of spoiled the multiple monitor thing, which before OSX used to be a great feature on Macs.
Apple tends to make assumptions about its users, based on whatever it is selling in its latest hardware.
Since so many large screen iMacs have been sold and the external monitor ports have switched numerous times, most users have given up trying to connect multiple monitors and many are probably even unaware it is possible.
It seems this includes the Pages' programmers who have slipped up on this.

  • Tecra M1 extended view to external Monitor

Hopefully I can find some help - I got an M1, Win2K installed and would like to have the desktop/view expanded to a connected external Monitor.
Does anyone know if this is possible with Win2K ? I have seen this feature enabled when running WinXP - however, I would assume this should work as well under Win2K.
    cheers... markus

    Hi
I dont see any reason, why it should not work. On the Toshiba download page, you can find all drivers, tools and utilities designed Windows 2000 OS. If your unit is installed properly, you can use Fn + F5 key combination to switch on external display.
There is also another possibility to do the same thing. In display properties go into settings tab. Mark the second display and activate the option called Extend my Windows desktop on to this monitor.
Please let me know if everything works fine.

  • Cannot connect 2 external monitors via port replicator using Portege Z30-16U

    Hi All
I need hell I just moved from a other laptop to the Portege Z30-16U, I have spent hours trying to connect my 2 external monitors to my Hi-Speed Port replicator III 120W but my laptop will only see one monitor.
I have been using 2 external monitors with my laptop for yrs as I do a lot or reading and I do not want to use only one and the laptop screen.
I have tried VGA cables and mix of a VGA and a HDMI but nothing is working.
Can anyone tell me how I can connect and view 2 external monitors with this laptop and port replicator, I cannot believe it is not possible it would make no sense that Toshiba would be so technilogically behind other laptop manufacturers.
    Thanks
    Liga

    Hi
I am not familliar with the Portreplicator of Z30, but the general behaviour of the dual-displayconnector replicators is that 1 can be used.
    Not 2 simultaneously.
I may be wrong and you should easily be able to check this - use only 1 at a time.
    First one, then the other.
If both works when used alone, then my suspicion is right.
    Hope this helps!

  • Connecting an External Monitor to a HP Pavilion 15t-n200

I have a HP Pavilion 15t-n200 laptop computer and I'm trying to hook up an external monitor.
I tried connecting directly to a monitor with an HDMI cable and this didn't work. So I bought a HDMI to VGA adaptor, and still no luck.
In both instances, I hooked up the monitor and pressed the F4 key to select how I select the other display. But none of the choices: Duplicate, Extend, or Second Screen Only seem to work. In fact, nothing happens when I make any of these selections.
    Am I missing a step?

    JKinnicutt wrote:

I updated the BIOS and the video drivers and it's still not working.
Pressing Fn F4 opens the selection for how I want to view the external monitor. And clicking something makes the laptop screen go black and then back on. (Unless I select Second Screen Only, then the laptop screen stays black). But the external monitor never displays anything.
    What is your operating system?
    Follow this document -
Connecting a Monitor, Projector or TV (Windows 8)
Go through Page 23, 24 in this manual
    NOTE:
To see the computer screen image on an external VGA monitor or projected for a presentation, connect a monitor or projector to the computer's VGA port.
To connect a monitor or projector:
    1. Connect the VGA cable adapter to the HDMI port.
    2. From the monitor or projector, connect to the VGA port on the computer
    3. Press f4 to alternate the screen image between 3 display states:
    ● View the screen image on the computer.
    ● View the screen image on the external device (monitor or projector).
    ● View the screen image simultaneously on both the computer and external device.
Each time you press f4, the display state changes

  • Mercury Transmit breaks greater than 1920x1080 external monitoring

    Hi all,
In Adobe CC in Quicktime Preview, there is an option to "Scale and Letterbox Output to Fit Video Monitor" in the Video Preview preferences.  This enables the ability to monitor 2K and 4K footage on hardware (in my case the Blackmagic Mini Monitor) that only supports up to 1920x1080 playback.
In CC 2014, this functionality does not seem to be present, in the same way the Premiere has not and does not support this function.
Anyone have any ideas?  Anyone from Adobe want to chime in?
    Thanks!

    Hi Tim,
    Thanks for the response.
"it doesn't have context in how Mercury Transmit works"
Are there plans to include this functionality?
"You can preview your 2K or 4K comp by nesting it into a 1920x1080 comp and scaling it down to fit, and using that comp for video previews."
Thanks for the suggestion, although I wouldn't really consider this a usable workaround.  You lose realtime feedback, which is the primarily the reason I need to use an external monitor in the first place.
I'm curious, what exactly is being gained by using Mercury Transmit?
    Thanks!

  • Macbook Pro detects external monitor as TV

    Hi,
I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro with Retina display. I plugged in an external monitor for the first time today and noticed that the screen looked blurry. I have seen on other forums that its a font smoothing issue but I ran that command in the terminal with no sucess. In my case its just not the font that is blurry, everything is blurry. I believe the problem is stemming from OS X detecting my external monitor as a television. Is there anything I can do to fix the issue or am I stuck waiting for Apple to update their video drivers. As a developer I like having as much screen space as possible but reading text on the secondary monitor is giving me a headache its so blurry.
My external monitor is a 24 inch Samsung with a max resolution of 1920x1080. I am connecting it via the Apple mini display port to DVI adapter.

It was set to 1080p, 1920x1080 did not show up as an option (even when holding the option key). 1080p should be equivlant. As as experiment I grabbed another monitor that was not being used. It is a 22 inch LG with a maximum display of 1920x1080, and its currently set to 1920x1080. The issue is a little different, was not detected as a TV this time, but the screen still looks blurry. There may be some improvement but not much.
